I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

is everyone gaining weight steadily - or does it go up and down by a few pounds on a daily or weekly basis?

OP posts:
mcchesers · 31/01/2008 07:54

Hey Miss T, I only check my weight when I go to my appointments. Last I checked I was rockin' 12.5 stone. Sheesh! I feel heavier some days then others, but think I may have lost some of the holiday weight. I've switched to fruit and have been enjoying that.

T- where is your DP from in America...just curious.

Ok so anyone find this familiar, I've had this cold since well before Christmas, and have this cough that gets worse through the night and wakes me up about an hour after I lie down. Last night I was coughing and couldn't breathe. I had to take a bath and some gavisgon just to get back to bed. Then 7 hours later I get up sputtering. Awful!

Hope you are all doing well.

Thinking of you crabby!

carrieHD9 · 31/01/2008 09:20

I don't know about weight but my shape seems to change daily- have had what feels like quite a pronounced pregnancy shape some days- today I got up and it seems to have gone down?!? I think my changing shape at min could be down in part to finally being able to move and do things therefore finally getting some exercise- going for walks and doing jobs in the house- first time since end October!

Mcchesers- hope you feel better soon!

Hi all,

I recieved my doppler off the internet yesterday and I couldn't believe it when I found a heartbeat as its so very early. I'm so excited.

Does anybody else have one and how often do you use it?

bitofadramaqueen · 31/01/2008 12:53

I only got weighed at my 1st mw appointment and she said I wouldn't get weighed again? Thankfully she said my weight in kilo's and I dont know (and dont want to know ) how to convert it into stones!

My DH has banned me from getting a doppler - he says I'll just obsess about it and get paranoid if I cant find a heartbeat. He'd be right! Am jealous of you Gracie!

Sorry you're not feeling so good mcchesers - I'm not as bad as you but I've been 'bunged up' for weeks. Dont feel ill otherwise, but its getting to be a PITA.

thanks for the invite, this is such a great idea!
hello to you all
i haven't bought anything yet, really don't want to jinx it as we had some bleeding at 8weeks.
Gracie, what doppler did you get? i agree with bitofadramaqueen, i suspect i'll obsess as well but its got to help just a little bit.my next scan is the 20week. 12weeks between scans is far too long for my liking!
to the others due end of July... personally i'm going to try and hang on until 8th August. i just reckon 8/8/08 would be too cool a date of birth! and yes, i know we can't plan these things but hey, its a plan.
i can echo all those without spare rooms but we decided to get round the problem by moving seemed a good idea originally!
we've taken a photo every sunday afternoon since bfp. its really cool looking back on them and really being able to see the changes from week to week

YellowFlower · 31/01/2008 18:00

Hiya can I join too? I?m from the due May thread. I?m 30 years old, and our first LO is due 4 may so am 26 weeks and feel the size of a house already!

Hope you?re feeling okay today crabby, as everyone else has said already, loads of women suffer from bleeding and have perfectly healthy babies.

TJuice you?re going to hate me but I actually lost ¾ stone from morning sickness and am only just starting to put it on now, but my GP said it wasn?t worth worrying about as the baby is big and most women put most weight on in the final trimester. I have to say I?m being cautious about food, but agree that a lot of the advice is OTT, I just worry about tempting fate!

We haven?t bought anything yet, but will be inheriting loads from my sister who had twins last October. Luckily we?re having a boy and hers are both boys too. I also have an over excited MIL who has been stalking baby clothes departments for the past 6 months so suspect a lot will appear from her!

Is anyone setting up a mother care wish list? Someone was telling me it works like a wedding list so when people want to buy you stuff after he/she is born you can point them towards their site, and shouldn?t get too many duplicates.

Jocesar ? I didn?t feel movement until 20 weeks and I have a friend who didn?t feel movement until 26 weeks, I think us first timers feel it a bit later but I may be wrong!

Books - I?ve also got what to expect when you?re expecting and plan to buy the next one pretty soon to prepare for the first year. My friends with kids swear by them. Also on our thread someone was recommending a book on childbirth ? Ina May's Guide To Childbirth - it?s supposed to be quite reassuring, so since I?m a bit scared by the whole childbirth thing I am prob going to get a copy to help with my birthplan.

Dopplers ? I got given one and the hospital weren?t happy with me when they found out as it can be really hard to find the heartbeat and so some mums panic, it?s mostly for re-assurance but I?ve only used it a handful of times as I think I have a future footballer in me so know he?s still there most of the time!

just realised how long this is so will stop rambling on and update the list!

hi yellowflower.

i lost half a stone from sickness too! it was so vile. but its slowly coming on now. can't wait to really feel kicks although everyone says you get fed up with it eventually.

i have my 19/20 week scan tomorrow. bit nervous as i always am before scans but excited too.

TJuice · 31/01/2008 22:51

gracie - i have stopped using my doppler so often, because i posted a thread on it and had some mixed responses. seehere

mcchesers - my dp is from los angeles. he came to sweden to study medicine originally and we met at university. he just finished his last exam (and passed!) today and starts work as a junior dr in a clinic on monday!
there's a pic in my profile, i think.

MissChika · 01/02/2008 10:04

Morning!

Welcome to all the newcomers - the list is slowly growing, like our tummies!

I can't really tell how much weight I've gained so far - some days I have a really visible bump and other days it just looks like I've eaten too many pies

Tjuice - good luck with the scan today! I'm 18+3 but my second scan isn't until 4 March when I'll be 23 weeks. Seems pretty late to me ...

Btw, is anyone suffering from itchy skin?? My tummy has been really itchy but my boobs have been driving me mad. I was having a good old scratch at work the other day when I realised the people in the building opposite could see me!!

Annieroo · 01/02/2008 10:30

Hello All, can I join too?

I'm 28+4 and i'm huge! have gained about a stone and a half in weight so far, but that's because i can't stop eating at the moment :-) and the lo is rapidly gaining more weight too. I'm terrified i'm going to have an exceedingly large baby (my dp was 13.5 lb when he was born) I just don't have the hips for that!

MissChika, i get itchy when i know the baby is growing, then i put some cream on to prevent stretch marks - really does help keep the itching down.

MissChika · 01/02/2008 12:45

Annieroo - thanks for the tip. I must remember to moisurise! It's nice to think that the itchyness is being caused by the baby growing. I do sometimes wonder if everything is okay in there as I haven't felt any movement yet.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/02/2008 13:53

Hey MissChika - I did get really bad itching on boobs and tummy but its eased off a bit now (I'm 20 weeks). Moisturising does help.

I woudn't worry too much about movement as apparently it's really common for first timers not to feel anything till later.

I was a bit the opposite as I started to feel things quite early but everything I read said altough it was possible it wasn't too common. Now I just get paranoid if I dont feel anything for a couple of hours!

Gracie14 · 01/02/2008 19:46

miamla - I got my doppler off ebay, its a pink 'angel' (i think) and got it for £29.99. It came the day after I ordered it

TJuice - Thanks for the thread info on doppler use, wow it certainly started a discussion. I'm really only going to use it when panicing (although that happens alot) surely they wouldn't sell them if they were dangerous but I suppose nobody really knows. Its definately helped my nerves sightly so that must be a good thing

Annieroo · 02/02/2008 10:11

Miamla, please accept my apologies.

MissChika, i didn't feel my lo until about week 22, and it hasn't stopped moving since!

Bitofadramaqueen I always get paranoid too if my lo has been quiet for a while. i usually end up poking my bump to try and wake it up though it does start to get in a routine after a while, but if i'm busy I don't notice it so much.

TJuice · 02/02/2008 17:54

i'm having a girl!
and she looks healthy and good!
was wiggling loads!

now all my friends and relatives who were CONVINCED that its a girl are vindicated.

i don't mind which but of course, i hit the tail end of Zara sale today and bought some more girly stuff (its so cheap now).

i am starting to get really excited . . .

hope everyone else is having a good weekend.

i have an old friend over from london, who brought a suitcase care package from my parents, including floradix, (champagne) marmite, horlicks, fudge, hot pepper sauce, jerk seasoning, knickers, lovely Hobbs and Fenn Wright bedlinen from TK Maxx, baby clothes and magazines, two tops from isabella oliver etc. Feel so spoilt!!!

OP posts:
frogger77 · 03/02/2008 11:40

Lol at Miamla, I am only 30, granted I occasionally feel much older but think waiting til I was 77 to have my first baby might be a bit much!!

Went window shopping for baby things the other day and started to believe its all a bit more real now. Gulp.

Now just have to book a private scan to reassure me im not just making all this up. Hate not getting 20 week scans. Grrr
