I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

Hey crabby - I guess whether you really need a pram/pushchair depends on your own needs. Babies shouldn't be in a car seat for more than 2 hours at a time and I dont think that all slings are suitable for newborns.

If you planning on being out and about for the day with the baby a sling might get very heavy.

My baby due in the summer so hoping that if I actually manage to get showered and dressed between feeds then I might get to have some walks in the park pushing the baby to try and get back into some kind of human looking shape .

hi carrie
i was having really bad insomnia until recently(18 wks). i still have an occasional bad night (last thursday did not sleep at all and was too wrecked to go to work on friday but i have the luxury of being able to "work" from home).
but acupuncture helps, as does being really disciplined about keeping the bedroom for sleeping only (i used to watch dvds and use my laptop in there).

its so annoying though, when your thoughts are just going like the clappers and you can't sleep. i get up, leave the room and go read somewhere for a while but i can be catatonic some days at work.

i was also super nervous about telling people at work but it went okay and i actually think that may be why i am sleeping better. it was really preying on my mind.

crabby - fingers crossed that everything is okay and good luck with your scan.

Shall we start a list (age may not be necessary!):

Just started with the insomnia over here. (16 weeks) also combined with hope to feel wiggles moving pretty soon..am jumping at every nag or pull. I guess it's all my guts shifting into place, but it's a very strange feeling.

Crabby good luck with your scan!

Hi everyone,

CarrieHD9 and FeeBee71 - I was hoping to be re-energised after the first trimester too. I'm feeling much better (was behaving like a narcoleptic for the first three months) but still find that I get tired really easily. Have also started getting jellylegs - has anyone else had that?? I'll be walking along and then suddenly my legs feel a bit wobbly. It's not so bad that I have to sit down but still a little unnerving.

Have added myself to the list:

Hello

I'm a 34 year old 1st timer from dorset. Expecting a boy on July 8th. Had horrible all- day nausea up to week 12 but been much better since then- apart from the almost total insomnia. it's really frustrating not being able to sleep at night but somehow I don't feel or look particularly drained and am still managing to work my 50 hr week as a vet. but I am picking up every bug that is going around- really hope it doesn't harm the baby.
Am 17'2, haven't got a bump yet- just have a muffin top and look fat! Haven't felt any movements yet- starting to get a bit worried as everyone else seems to be feeling things.
Haven't bought a single baby thing yet. Me and my dh have agreed to buy as much as poss 2nd hand from ebay or it might spiral out of control.

Had a wonderful 2 wk honeymoon in the Maldives at 12 wks, just come back from a weeks conference in florida and have booked a 2 wk 'final fling' in Grenada in March at 26weeks. Has anyone else's baby had more long haul flights?? He's going to be born feeling guilty about his carbon footprint.

just as an aside, we went to disney world in florida- absolutely didn't do it for me and I would never take my kids there. anyone agree?

Good luck to everyone out there, here's hoping for beautiful neat bumps, gorgeous healthy babies and painless births/breast feeding and teenagers.

gillythekid · 29/01/2008 15:05

Hi Jocesar. Me and my unborn are about to embark on a mammoth long haul itinerary. London to Hong Kong for the weekend, then on to NZ for 12 days, Auckland to Fiji for a week then Fiji to LA with a pitiful 4 hour wait then LA to London. We'll be planting trees for the rest of our lives to offset this trek! It's our late honeymoon and a chance for us to relax before our little one arrives in July.
Another one for the list!

oh i am so

i am going to NY with my mum at Easter but its not really a holiday, if you know what i mean. its visiting relatives and shopping.
actually, i think it will be nice. We'll stay in a nice hotel, eat well, go to a show or two and just chill. its the first time me and my mum will be on the same page in terms of holiday - normally a visit to New York is one long bar crawl for me and my girlfriends.

gilly the kid- ok you win on the long haul challange! Here's a tip you can try- worked for me from Florida with Virgin- if you are flying economy then ask for an upgrade/free seats next door as you are pregnant, your legs have swelled up alot and you are worried about deep vein thrombosis. got a few free seats on the return trip!!

Id love a nice holiday before baby comes.

We do have a long weekend away planned over Easter to Cornwall but its not a hot tropical trip. We did go travelling round Thailand for our Honeymoon in July so suppose i cant have everything!
Did nearly book a trip to NY but think it will be too much walking around ( I need a nap after a couple of hours round the local shopping centre!) plus i get airsick the best of times so dread to think how id be pregnant!

Anyway ive added myself to the list

Hi all - am away to Brussels with friends from around the country to see an old friend in couple of weeks- when this was first discussed in November thought I'd never get on a bus, nevermind an aeroplane, again, so didn't book anything. But with my new found energy I booked my flight at the weekend and can't wait- also - wierdly??- really looking forward to flying by myself and meeting my friends out there- as suspect future trips will more be about having the car stuff full of baby things, nursery rhymes CD on, and itinerary planned with military precision- not that that won't be nice too... but you know what I mean.... Me and other half also planning to go for some sunshine around six months- EVERYONE I've spoken to says to go away if you can possibly afford it- so we are getting the credit card out!

Hi, have added myself to the list (in order of course Fluff!).

I've just got back from New York (hello again Gilly - we had some chat yesterday about long haul flights!). TJuice - when you're in New York check out buybuybaby - lots of great value stuff!

Have to say to all of you planning long-haul trips it took me a lot longer than usual to get into a new time-zone frame and I'm still shattered after 2 days back in the UK so be prepared for that. I would normally be feeling fine by now after coming back from the States but can hardly keep my eyes open.

Anyway that, and the fact I'm feeling a bit miserable tonight means I'm off to bed!

Thanks for all your support. Scan was good in that it showed fetal heart beat - nice to see. Problem is that I'm still bleeding on and off every few days and the stress is difficult to handle. No previous mc and I know this isn't classical for a mc but it is scary. DP being lovely but I really don't want every discussion with him to be about blood loss!

Will add myself to the list when I am feeling a little more confident. Seems to be tempting fate at mo. Will keep chin up and fingers crossed.

LittleConnie · 29/01/2008 22:10

fantastic news about the heartbeat crabby... sending you lots of positive vibes. i've read so many threads now about bleeding on and off which has resulted in a happy ending. will be keeping everything crossed that this will happen for you

TJuice · 30/01/2008 08:16

fingers crossed that it will all be fine crabby. xoxo

how paranoid does everyone get about food?
i just noticed that the parmesan i grated on my pasta last night was not pasteurised. on the internet you can find ANY information to scare or comfort you, so its hard to know really. I have eaten goats cheese a few times and drink tea wiht splenda in it . . .and lots of chocolate. its a balance between being paranoid and being realistic, isn't it?

the charity shop round the corner from where i live here (quite posh area) had a bunch of brand new baby clothes in the window, so yesterday i got a cream onesie with tiny teddies on it (babygro? bodysuit? whatever you call them) with matching reversible fluffy pajama bottoms, a cream crochet new born hat and a short-sleeve pink onesie with I heard NY on it! So cute. If I have a boy, I will have to part with it to give to a friend.

I can't believe I am getting into this whole business with getting excited about baby clothes . . . i feel like such a sap.

gr1973 · 30/01/2008 13:16

hey crabby - hope you feeling ok today. It must be scary but lots of people do have bleeding on and off throughout pregnancy so hopefully you'll also be having a happy ending! Seeing the heartbeat is a really positive sign.

TJuice - I go from being quite paranoid about food to being quite blase and then back again in a heartbeat! I had some eggs benedict when I was in New York (which were gorgeous) but running eggs {naughty emoticon]. I figured that people hardly ever get salmonella and it was quite a well to do place so it would be fine. I always say that its amazing that the human race has survived for so long eating/doing all the bad things that we now aren't allowed to eat . It wasn't so long ago that pregnant women had to eat loads of liver!

MissChika · 30/01/2008 13:24

Good afternoon everyone!

Hey crabby fingers crossed for you - hopefully the scan was reassuring for you. Big hugs.

TJuice - have decided not to take too much notice of all the warnings about food. I think maternity advice has gone overboard due to people trying to sue if something goes wrong that they now advise avoiding pretty much everything! I just take it with a pinch of salt (so to speak!). I still eat shellfish (although I did go off it after my trip to Vietnam in November - just during my most nauseous phase)and couldn't go without eating brie for too long. I think you're right though - it's just a case of being sensible and realistic about it. Most of the foodstuffs advice is in case of food poisoning which is apparently much worse if you're PG but as I've never had it before it would probably feel pretty horrendous anyway.

Still haven't got into the really excited phase yet or thought about buying anything. I'm supposed to make a list of things that we need so that we can start planning a bit more but I still haven't got round to it yet!

Sorry for the long rambling post today!
