I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

i really hoped my knockers would be bigger than this (from "compact" B to "compact" C) but I guess they will when breastfeeding.

carrieHD9 don't be it's a pain to be honest would love to be something like a f at least I could buy them anywhere then I am praying this is it it is quite frankly daft I am having to look at having some made that are a bigger size as L is the biggest you can buy off the peg

ruthosaurus · 07/04/2008 17:09

makecakesnotwar & kaz1967 - holy cr*p! My kid is going to starve on my A cups! Am still only 8 weeks though so I'm hoping for bigger boobs before my tummy starts showing. I imagine that stage will last for, ooh, a whole week! When did anyone else first have to get a bigger bra? Also, are underwires not good? All maternity bras seem to be non-wired. It's all about tight clothes and throwing up at the moment...

makecakesnotwar · 07/04/2008 18:38

Ruth- I pretty much had maternity bras immediately- had them from mc, and suffered quite badly with painful boobs for the first twelve weeks, so had to sleep in bras. Went up in size by week 16 so got my second set which I am slowly growing out of. Holding on until I get measured for feeding bras a couple of weeks before due date.

Apparently you shouldn't wear underwires because they don't have the room to expand that non-wired do, and your boobs are continually growing (can bear witness to that)...easier to get away with though if you were modestly endowed to start. I have heard that you can occasionally wear underwire- smart outfits, high days and holidays etc-if it is supportive and a good fit.

God- do I sound dull!!

carrieHD9 · 07/04/2008 18:40

ruth, I'm still in some underwire bras, I was told it was more about bras starting to pinch and cut in to your boobs when they grow, and this being more likely with underwire ones- or when your ribcage expands, which can interfere with milk ducts developing?- As I am still the same cup size at 26 weeks- nipples huge but boobs the same, old bras still not pinching. Quite gutted really- but been assured once you start breastfeeding this aaalllllll changes....

Kaz1967 · 07/04/2008 20:57

ruth As someone who taught breastfeeding be reassured your little one will not starve and will have a lot easier time feeding then mine. Small boobs make it a lot easier and your body will produce the milk they need.

Hey fellow first timers, hope you all doing ok. I started this thread here on the nappies section and thought it may be of interest to anyone thinking about cloth nappies.

7monthsplus · 09/04/2008 15:29

I am a first timer and now over due by 2 days.. expecting a girl. cant wait..... I think!

xxxxxxx

ruthosaurus · 09/04/2008 15:52

Feeling blue and probably for no reason - have bought my maternity jeans and now have had reduced pg symptoms for 3 days (no sickness, food aversion etc but still quite tired and slightly sore boobs) and have tons more energy than last week. Is this a good thing or does it mean something has gone wrong? Have now convinced myself there's something up with the sprog. Worried Anyone else have this at 8 weeks?

bitofadramaqueen · 09/04/2008 17:41

dont worry too much ruthosauras - everyone is different and lots of people's symptoms come and go. Its really common to overanalyse even the slightest change in symptoms.

The things to watch out for are pains and spotting. Although, even those symptoms dont mean anything is wrong.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

ruthosaurus · 09/04/2008 17:43

Thanks for great bra advice and sorry about v neg last post, everyone - possibly due to funky pg hormones. Thanks for nappy link, bitofadramaqueen - am thinking about using cloth nappies so will have a look.
7monthsplus - bet you can't wait! How are you doing?

ruthosaurus · 09/04/2008 17:50

Sorry dramaqueen - think our posts overlapped - cheers for pep-talk! Have just spoken to friend who has evil morning sickness from hell and am off to count my many blessings . Also, I have just accrued my first pregnancy benefit - my mum and sister have promised to come and help with any decorating this summer, yay .
Off to make lemonade...

bitofadramaqueen · 09/04/2008 18:55

no bother - glad you feeling a bit cheerier! I'd recommend nappy lady if you're looking into cloth nappies - great for advice and info.

Kaz1967 · 09/04/2008 23:31

Hello everyone had a bit of a couple of days tired and really hacked off.

Had stomach pains early hours Tues morning assumed it was just wind from IBS because that is what it felt like tried everything inc a bath at 4am nothing helped could still feel little on moving so was pretty sure they were ok. Had an appointment with GP in morning anyway and he was lovely had a prod took a we sample and sent it off although nothing in it when tested Found the little horrors heart beat first time so I am very impressed no one else has. Said to ring him or hospital if got I decided to toddle off for a short walk and ended up at the zoo thinking if it was wind walking would shift it.

Home early evening still feeling sore so went to bed woke up no better and decided to ring hospital who obviously wanted me to go in and my lovely neighbour took me in. Doc thinks on of my fibroids has over grown and is dying and that is what hurts it will pain will stop in a few days but until then it's just pop pills. CDS were lovely but busy the ward they took me to after 1am was crap. She told me initially that I was not written up for PRN analgesia as well as regular stuff when I asked for it she then informed me it was opiate based and did I really want it well so is bloody codeine and yes I want it I am in pain and the obstetric doc has prescribed it.

And from then on it went down hill never slept other than a doze from 4am to 5.50 when some idiots alarm went off so I gave up and went and had a shower. Must have missed to doc by seconds when I was actually eating breakfast no one tried to look for me or tell me they had bloody been. They wanted bloods and a urine sample which I I had given them the evening before and my GP had sent one off already then I sat around waiting thinking I was waiting for a doc, asked about this at 11 but my midwife was off having a break and would come and see me when she got back well she did not. Had lunch and asked again pointed out I had left phone at home in rush to get there, was not expecting to stay in had no clean clothes, no one actually knew I had been admitted.

They eventually came to tell me the docs had been but did not bother to talk to me !!! And considering I was in there for observation no one had been to ask if the analgesia was actually bloody working or done any obs or anything since I was in CDS no one actually came to check I had eaten or was ok. No one even noticed I had been crying or was getting up set.

Anyway as I have ranted on a bit a lot less money in my purse (phone ate it and did not even get through) tears and threatening to leave unless the doctor came to see me they eventually turned up at 4.30 did not finish writing up my meds until the pharmacy had closed so no meds to take home and midwife tried to make me stay another night no bloody way I need some sleep and the bloody cat needed some food. Yet again they seem to fail to realise no one actually knows I am here and I have no way of contacting anyone (they would not let me use there bloody phone even to ring my community midwife to ask her to pass on a message to my neighbour who could have a fed the cat and b got my phone brought in so I could at least feel in contact with the world. She did not want me to get the bus home (had £1 in my purse). Free bus finished by the time I escaped so I ended up walking the half mile into town to get some money out (she would love that) stupid thing is the girl opposite was in a similar position although she did have her mobile and her family knew she was in and they sent her home in a Taxi because she lived in Weston not me cos I lived in Bristol.

Had a sleep but now I am awake an just over tired. Never ever are they going to get me on that bloody ward again.

Sorry that's a little long tomorrow is another day

makecakesnotwar · 10/04/2008 10:18

Kaz- what an utterly shit experience. Hope you are taking it easy today.

33 weeks today, and I am counting the days. Had a very crap class at hospital last night- glad I have NCT ones booked. But have now seen DVD tour of delivery suite (they don't do tours because of infection risk) so know what I am going into...

7months- sending positive labour vibes....let us know how it goes!

ruthosaurus · 10/04/2008 10:42

Aw, Kaz - big hug, what a shit time. I can't believe they wouldn't even let you use the phone. Useless gits. Look after yourself todayand, chick. Glad to hear the doc managed to find a heartbeat, though - that's positive.

Hey Cakes, my boss is 33 weeks as well and is almost counting hours. She said her classes were rubbish as well and that they said the breathing was all about breathing in and out - which she's been doing since SHE was born! Woman running the class was not impressed...

Kaz1967 · 10/04/2008 11:10

Thanks everyone just needed to rant last night. I feel better this morning having slept really well still feel uncomfortable esp sitting so won't be on here long but everything is so much easier to cope with when you know what something is and have actually slept. Hoping the pain will subside after a few days week at a max as the fibroid that is the problem gets smaller an dies. Knowing it is not life threatening or causing a problem to little one who is very obviously extremely happy an very active LOL. Spoken to GP and community Midwife who were both lovely (hospital had not even informed midwife I had either been admitted let alone discharged) and I pick up pain meds from doc this afternoon (thankfully I have a few that strength already). Don't have a lot of faith in the ward I was on no way I want to go back there not even very happy about going there to see the consultant team but suppose some things have to be done.

ruthosaurus · 10/04/2008 12:51

Glad you're feeling a bit better. Would your neighbour or anyone else be able to come in with you next time you have to go to hospital? Sometimes it's just nice to have someone else there to ask questions or just be moral support. Hope the pain gets better soon.

bitofadramaqueen · 10/04/2008 13:36

Kaz - sorry to hear about your experience, hope you taking it easy today.

makecakesnotwar · 10/04/2008 19:37

Think my bump has dropped. 33 weeks today. Golly. I'm really having a baby...though hopefully not before my baby shower on Saturday.

Kaz1967 · 10/04/2008 19:41

ruth I don't actually know Amy very well she only moved in few months ago an I have spoken to her a few times. If it happens again (hope to god it does not but I have 3 other fibroids that could play silly buggers too) I will either stick a note through Ju down the roads door I know they both drink in the evening so would not have been in a fit state to drive me But Ju has my door key ju does not drive or cope well with bus's her Hubby could drop things in and she could have fed the cat and things.

Squarah · 11/04/2008 11:24

Oh Kaz how awful!!! Huge sympathy vibes and sad that's it's made you lose confidence in the hospital. don't know if it helps but my impression is that everything's geared up for the labour and after that everyone's understaffed so as long as we get through the labour bit hopefully we can rush home and avoid needing to be looked after! Or get a nice quiet side room where we choose to ignore everyone .

Boobswise I just cannot believe that mine are still growing. Having been a small 34B am now more than 36C - grown out of my new bra plus expanders but feel too mean to buy new bras when I can't get fitted for nursing bras till 36 weeks, not sure what to do... Any thoughts?

Am really enjoying being preggers so far and getting hugely excited about buying stuff - want to get everything NOW! Trying to hold back but so many cute things out there....

Kaz1967 · 11/04/2008 14:11

Squarah thanks part of my problem is I am qualified as a nurse although not registered any more and I probably make a very bad patient. I worked as one for nearly 20 years over half of those in a very busy NICU and I know that I would have been more supportive to Mums on the unit and I expected that, Plus think I scared then because a couple of the younger ones I certainly knew more certainly knew more about although I know very little about midwifery I admit I cannot be fobbed off with crap explanations like they tried to with me several times They were not even offering me the dose of PRN meds the doctor had prescribed because they did not approve although I was clearly in pain still. We are talking Obs and gyne doc so a specialist not someone who did not understand pregnancy and I know because of what my consultant prescribed for me to take home I know some nurses/midwives who practically ignore other professionals because caring for them scares them. But saying that there was another new patient in the room who had not seen the doctors either.

I really should stop analysing it because it is making me all weepy again and nothing I can do to change what happened other than take the advice I normally give to people who have had a bad experience which is to officially complain.

Don't talk about boobs mine are totally ott at 40L I am still on the smallest hook but I am starting to bulge over the cups and I don't see them getting any smaller in the short term

Kamagrian · 11/04/2008 14:37

Hi there!

I just joined, and I'm a first-time mum-to-be expecting a little boy on 11th August. That would make me exactly 5 months pregnant today, I guess - but my partner Matt reckons I'm like a Tardis inside, as people keep commenting that I don't look THAT pregnant, despite our baby being on the larger side of average! He said perhaps I'm carrying him in my right thigh or something, but I pointed out that the frequent trampolining on my bladder would seem to indicate that's not the case. ;)

Hope everyone's feeling happy and healthy today. I look forward to getting to know more of you as the months fly by.

Hugs,

Gill x
