@PurplePansy05 the article I just read said 6 weeks and the massage they were doing was quite rough to like stretch it out 🤔 I’d rather just leave it alone then do bio oil to try and make the scar less obvious

Millymay13 · 22/09/2021 01:27

@sarah13xx I asked the GP about scar massage today at my 6 week check up. She checked my scar was healing ok and then said that I could do some gentle massage along it now so I am going to start. Like you I’ve read about the benefits of massaging it and I’m keen to do all I can to make the internal and external scar as comfortable as possible in the future.
The GP did also say that it takes about 12 weeks for everything the be fully healed post CS so I’m still in relatively early days at 5 weeks post op therefore to be taking things really easy still. After my pain at the weekend this was really helpful to hear xx

sarah13xx · 22/09/2021 03:57

@Millymay13 aw that’s good you got checked, my doctors have refused to give me an appointment because they aren’t doing postnatal checks just now 🙄 it wasn’t until I read that article today I realised it was meant to help avoid problems in the future but I might leave it a while since no ones checking it and it is still red. I’m aiming for 12 weeks to be healed enough to exercise etc anyway, I’d rather just wait a few extra weeks! xx

Magik01 · 22/09/2021 06:11

@HopefulB you sound like you’ve had a rough ride, kudos to you for coping with pumping when really unwell! That must be so difficult. Remember happy mum happy baby, take care of yourself lovely.

@Smurf123 yes sleepy baby after jabs is totally normal. The HV advised me to take calpol with me to give to him straight after but tbh I will probably just give it him once home as the doctors isn’t far away.

I can’t remember if your BF/combi/FF but I found with DS1 to take medicine if I got the bottle teat and put the calpol syringe behind it, wait for him to start sucking expecting milk then squirt the calpol it worked a treat. Maybe you could try that if your using bottles at all?

@sarah13xx not using anything on my scar and probably won’t. I found with my previous section scar it just became lighter on its own over time so don’t worry.

@Ready2020 I totally get what you mean about missing your evenings. I’m going to bed around 8/8:30 once I’ve had tea and DH has done for a few hours. I miss just watching telly with DH. Actually just spending any time with DH as he doesn’t get in until around 6 every night and DS1 goes to bed at 7 so we don’t spend much time together at all at the minute.

Rest assured though, it does eventually get better. I know it doesn’t seem it in the mist of things like you’ll never get your me time back, but you will. Xx

DS has finally gone back to sleep after two hours of feeding and sn explosive poop that obviously went everywhere requiring a full change 😱

Magik01 · 22/09/2021 06:14

Also has anyone else has a 6 week check for your and/or baby at the doctors?

I don’t think my doctors are doing it for me or baby. Not sure if they will do everything at the jab appointment at 8 weeks. Very odd.

Also how often are you seeing HV in your areas? Mine came today at 6 weeks check (a little late as he’s nearly 7 weeks) and said the next appointment is the 9-12 month one, likely to be at a year though! 🤯 Think it’s down to covid but still!

Millymay13 · 22/09/2021 06:50

@sarah13xx and @Magik01 my GP does a face to face 6 week check for CS mums and a telephone call for mums who had a vagina delivery apparently. This group has made me so aware of the differences between support in different areas, it’s really surprised me.
I saw my HV at 10 days (I think) at home and my next appointment is at a children centre next week when I will be 6 weeks. Im not sure how much more HV support there is after that though, I think they base it on how much of a risk they think you are (or in nicer terms how much support they think you need). I have heard that HV appointments have decreased a lot in recent years even pre-covid and they just focus on the families most in need.

BertieBotts · 22/09/2021 07:54

Haha, spiked like a pufferfish! They don't do preschool boosters until 5 here, but DS2 kept saying he wanted an injection after Mummy and DS1 had one (covid) so at his appointment when they asked DH if he wanted to accept the FSME vaccine he said yes. That is a tick-borne disease that we live in a risk area for. So he had his injection and he was so proud! Very different from DS1 who had to be held down for his preschool jabs and still remembers it as a terrible experience! D:

@Magik01 it's always been like that even before corona. The initial visits are the only home visits you get, 9-12 month check is normally at a health centre. If you want to see them in between, they normally run weighing clinics which you should have been given details of? And through the weighing clinics, most areas run a weaning talk periodically which you can opt to go to at about 3-5 months so you can get an idea of how and when to start. But I think the clinics might have stopped due to corona in some areas and if you have concerns about weight gain you're supposed to ask for a home visit instead.

Daffodil21 · 22/09/2021 08:13

@Magik01 yes, I had my 6 week check at the GP yesterday.

After the midwife, I've seen the HV once a week since birth. I won't see her again until 12 weeks

wimbler · 22/09/2021 08:17

Where I live they combine the 8 weeks vaccination with the 6 week post natal and baby check. Ours are tomorrow which I’m really relieved about as last night I had really significant blood loss after dh and I had sex for the first time. Tmi (sorry!) but it was terrifying and I was very close to calling 111 as I thought I was having delayed hemorrhaging. There was so much but it seems to have slowed now so don’t know if it’s my period or not. No cramps or anything either But I’m bfing and last time it didn’t come back until I stopped at 7 months. I’m baffled.

sarah13xx · 22/09/2021 08:32

@wimbler oh no that’s terrifying 😳 hopefully won’t happen again and that’s it stopped

@Magik01 I couldn’t get a postnatal appointment for me but my health visitor said I was just to try and get one at the 8 week appointment for him. I got the letter in with his appointment and it very clearly says do not ask about anything else, if you do you will need to phone up and book another appointment (which they won’t let me do) 🤷🏼‍♀️

I saw the health visitor once a week til 6 weeks just for him to get weighed. She said she’ll leave me alone for a while now but I think that’s maybe til 12 weeks

Smurf123 · 22/09/2021 09:20

@Magik01 I've phoned again today to try and get my 6 week check. My gp seems reluctant to do them. Originally midwife said it would be done at babys 8 will check but Dr yesterday said no.
I saw the hv at 6 weeks and she's back in November for the 14-16 week health check. There's a page in my red book about it.
Aw that's very cute that he was so proud of his injection @BertieBotts
Well my sleepy baby turned to sore and unsettled baby all night and was up every hour from midnight. Our just crying out seemed sore and uncomfortable. Got calpol for her again about 530 and she finally got some settled test until 8ish but her crying at the calpol woke up ds who figured there was no point in going back to sleep at that time as he wasnt tired anymore 🙈

Daffodil21 · 22/09/2021 09:43

I can't see how they'll do the 6 week check over the phone? They checked in his eyes, his spine, his hands and hips??

lucyrp · 22/09/2021 10:02

@Magik01 yeah I went to the doctors to try and book a check for myself and she said that I'd get sent a letter for a check for DD and they'd do me at the same time and I've had the letter now so! X

@PurplePansy05 yes DS goes to swimming after school but that's all he does extra at the moment, that seems to work fine so far! I think the big age gap is actually working well and think we will definitely wait at least 2/3 years before trying for our next if we decide to xx

PurplePansy05 · 22/09/2021 10:31

I saw my HV a lot, can't actually remember, but I think it was weekly at the beginning (until DS started gaining weight steadily), then fortnightly and now it's going to be at 8 & 12 weeks, then at 6 months I was told. HV appointments coincide with vaccinations done at the GPs in my area. GP will also check him over beforehand. No weighing in clinics are open atm 'due to covid' and DS will be weighed at the appointments I mentioned. I've actually considered buying baby scales myself, but not sure how long I could use it for.

No 6 weeks post CS check up here at all. The receptionist told me I can ask questions when I go in with DS at 8 weeks and I sure will, whether the GP will be huffing and puffing I do not care! xx

PurplePansy05 · 22/09/2021 10:34

@wimbler that's terrifying, it sounds like a clot? I think you should get it checked over as soon as you can xx

Smurf123 · 22/09/2021 12:32

Well I got the postnatal check today over the phone (despite the receptionist huffind and puffing that Wednesday is for medical emergencies only.. Is it Wednesday?) gp who phoned back was lovely though. Finally booked in to get iron levels rechecked - not to October but at least it is booked and going to get blood pressure checked etc too.

RandomCatGenerator · 22/09/2021 17:53

Today has been the first really really shit day. DS was a lovely sleepy baby all night - but he then barely slept from 8am until 9pm, bar a two hour nap at lunchtime (I’m 5 hours ahead of the UK). He’s completely overwrought, just wants to be on me, shrieking, flailing. Snacking in between shrieking and flailing and occasionally briefly napping on me.

And this has coincided with the arrival of actual wet tears making him seem like he’s actually sad.

Plus my stomach above my scar is really tender and quite sore. Apparently it’s normal for it to have new pain a few weeks after surgery but it’s come as a nasty shock.

Boooooo.

Thank you for letting me rant.

RandomCatGenerator · 22/09/2021 17:54

I’m very sore and tired, DH is exhausted too and getting angry. The cats aren’t getting enough attention so are also acting out.

Just proper shit.

Magik01 · 22/09/2021 18:20

Hope your okay @RandomCatGenerator I hated when DS1 got real tears, pretty sure I cried along with him the first time.

Tomorrow’s a few day, hope he gives you a bit more of a rest. Flowers

Thank you everyone who answered my question, I actually got a letter today for a phone appointment for myself for next week so that’s answered my question!

Smurf123 · 22/09/2021 19:47

Hope your OK @RandomCatGenerator this too will pass. Hopefully baby settles for you soon!

Im on attempt number 3 of bake off... I would really quite like some cake right now 🙈 trying to be good and struggling, I feel I don't have time to make meals and end up ending junk food. L

Ready2020 · 22/09/2021 20:58

Oh I hate the real tears. They make me so sad. Had to wake DD up for health visitor today which pissed me off as DD actually went down for a proper long sleep at 8am again which she never does. There were tears there when I woke her.

Ha all you guys having sex. I can still barely sit with out pain killers with my tear not healing.

DD is now 10lb 7 oz at about 7 weeks old. I've got my 6 ish week check up on Friday in the Dr's so things much be running OK here.

I've spent a lot of the evening trying to negotiate when OH can go out in the evening to do social things with friends. He's got 4 potential things he can go to next week. It pisses me off tbh as I do day time and he does evening and I do nights too. We're not quite there with getting her down in the evening these days and it can be a 2 person job sometimes. I get that he wants to go out but it's generally in Edinburgh so it adds an extra almost 2 hours to the journey.

Off for my nap.

Ready2020 · 22/09/2021 20:59

@Smurf123 enjoy bake off! I finished it this morning.

sarah13xx · 22/09/2021 22:30

I’m having a similar day @RandomCatGenerator ! omg the wet tears 😭😂 He’s started that and sometimes stops crying then does this wee frown then his bottom lip starts going before he starts crying again 🙈

He had a 2 hour nap in a dark room yesterday at lunch time and he was like the dream baby last night. Away to bed at 8pm, no issues getting him down at all and didn’t wake back up til I got him up for a feed at half 11. Today he fell asleep out a walk at lunch so I tried leaving him in the pram when we got home but he woke up not long after and had only slept 30/40mins. He then wouldn’t go back to sleep so I foolishly decided we’d just go out in the afternoon. He had a short nap in the car but since we came home at half 4 he’s been so overtired and has just refused to sleep. He’s almost like a toddler having a tantrum the way he goes on when he’s over tired (hitting his arms out, arching his back and screaming). Finally got him to sleep about an hour ago. It was fully my own fault today and I’ve learnt the hard way. I think he’s getting too old to stay so sleepy the way he used to when he’s in a well lit noisy room so in future he’ll be going in his snuzpod in the dark at lunchtime if I’m at home. Before he was born I thought that routine would be too tying (when I read it in Gina Ford) but I’d actually way rather sacrifice a short window over lunch time and have the dream baby the rest of the day than have a repeat of today 🙈😭

Also have a wedding to go to next week and thought I didn’t look too bad til I tried my dress on, oh dear god 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s swiftly being returned! Have to remind myself I had a baby only 6 weeks ago but just struggling with the fact I still have over a stone to lose and I’m way chunkier than I was before! I’m sure it’ll be fine when I start exercising again 🙄

Ready2020 · 23/09/2021 02:09

@sarah13xx my DD had a similar day in that she has a good nap in the morning but then I went to IKEA. Usually she would sleep really well when out and about but she dozed in it car and that's it. She fell asleep on my arms towards the end of IKEA but woke when being put in car. This evening she was a proper to put down and even now after 4 hours sleep she is difficult to put down again.

She needs to get used to sleeping out and about but also sleeps much better when at home in a dim calm room so not sure what is best as you can't restrict yourself to stay at home.

sarah13xx · 23/09/2021 05:01

@Ready2020 you just can’t predict it 🙈 they’re definitely way better if they’ve had a nap! It’s so hard to know what to do. I think if I can avoid going out til after his nap I will unless it’s a walk where I’ll be walking for the whole 2 hours because he’d stay asleep then. On the odd days if I’m going for lunch or something he’ll just have to nap when we’re out. To be fair when I went out today I didn’t take the pram and lifted him out the car seat so he was highly unlikely to manage a long nap, should maybe take the carrycot in future 🙄
