We have had sex but it's always a bit crap (from my perspective) this soon after. I tend to want to stop before the end. Need to get contraception sorted too as condoms suck. I'm not looking forward to that as haven't been on any in about 8 years Shock

@RandomCatGenerator we're going away for nearly a week to Italy next month to stay with DH's family 😬 I'm not totally convinced it's a good idea but I know he's finding it really tricky having his family far away, it's a really lovely place we're staying, and his mum is amazing so we'll have plenty of help when we're there. Then in November we're going down to Devon for a first birthday party, and are making a weekend of it and looking for a nice Air BnB to stay in

@Inmypjsagain I've messaged to ask what she thinks of it - will update!

BertieBotts · 16/09/2021 19:16

We (well OK I!) really want to go home for Christmas but the prices of AirBnBs in the UK have skyrocketed because of covid :( Also we are not sure how the baby will cope with a 16 hour drive yet as he's not overly tolerant of the car seat. We're going to give it until mid October then decide.

I haven't seen my family in 2 years though - I just want to go home.

@Inmypjsagain Put it this way, it was so tight I felt like I was losing my virginity all over again 🙈 Which has shocked me, I thought things were loose down there! It was also a lot drier- definitely hormones. Of course the enjoyment was limited because we had to be really careful not to touch or pull my scar which is still healing, but we've managed. I'm glad as I was a bit anxious to come back to it and felt like I might end up postponing for too long. DS was in his N2M next to us, chatting away to himself Blush

@biscuitcat Wow, fair play! That's so organised with such a young baby! We're not going away until June next year, might have a weekend away in January for a wedding, but haven't arranged it yet. How did you manage to get his passport sorted so fast?? xx

RandomCatGenerator · 16/09/2021 19:22

Good luck to all those planning or hoping for trips 🤞 the place we’re hoping to go to is a 5 hour train ride away…DS naps anywhere but if that changes in the next month then that could be hell for all concerned.

@Ready2020 so sorry you’re having such a terrible time. White noise - hoover, extractor fan, washing machine? Colic drops? Gripe water? I hope your night gets much better.

RandomCatGenerator · 16/09/2021 19:22

@Inmypjsagain exactly - £200?! For four months?!?

Daffodil21 · 16/09/2021 19:24

@PurplePansy05 I'm the same. I always thought I wanted at least 2 but to be honest I'm not sure I can put myself through all the shit again. I probably will though, which is why I'm keeping hold of his clothes.

No sex here yet. I thought you had to wait until 6 week appointment or is that a load of rubbish?! It's going to be strange - I was too paranoid throughout the whole pregnancy (silly I know!) so we basically haven't had sex since conception 😂

@RandomCatGenerator I'm planning on taking the train to my mum's in a few week's time. Doesn't sound like much but it's 600 miles away...! Going to stay for a week, but we'll be at my mum's house (DH not coming either) 😱

BertieBotts · 16/09/2021 19:30

You don't have to wait but some people like to get the all clear WRT stitches, healing, infection etc!

Lube definitely recommended. Be aware if using condoms coconut oil (or any oil) is harmful towards them. Breastfeeding provides a contraceptive effect but it's not 100% so don't rely on it if pregnancy would be a disaster. Also only works if no dummies/bottles/solids and baby feeds during the night.

I gave back some of the tiny clothes to a friend who gave them to me last time today Shock I really don't see us having another one. Our flat seems soo small and cramped suddenly with 3 and I felt it was quite big before.

@PurplePansy05 we're both feeling a little under-holidayed since covid, as we're usually away quite frequently because of DH's job, and his family being abroad, so have been keen to take advantage of my maternity leave - we have about 7 or 8 trips planned 😳 we were really on it with getting a registration appointment and then had to go up to London to do the accelerated passport service (only an hour or so on the train from us, so quite manageable luckily) - it was so quick, we had the appointment on the Thursday and the passport arrived on the Saturday! Xx

Inmypjsagain · 16/09/2021 19:42

@biscuitcat Italy! Amazing! Such a nice place to have family. We were looking at maybe flying to Pisa and taking a train to Florence, it’s only 1.5 hours on the plane and train not too long, but we decided we were being a bit too ambitious. I’d be interested in what a flight with a baby is like… I can’t think how many outfits changes baby will need packed!

@PurplePansy05 that’s interesting, not what I’d expect either, thought I’d be the opposite! I did wonder where babies would be but I guess that’s normal as they’re all supervised!

@BertieBotts 2 years :( that must be really tough. If you can’t go, could they come to you?

I don’t think I can do pregnancy again, having a newborn has been fine but when there’s no toddler around you can have an indulgent pregnancy and new baby period, imagine not so much if you’re having number 2 !

Inmypjsagain · 16/09/2021 19:54

@Ready2020 how are you getting on? Maybe daft and obvious but have you tried doing nothing with her? As in just sitting on the sofa watching tv with her having a cuddle rather than actively trying to make her sleep? Hope she settles soon

Smurf123 · 16/09/2021 20:12

We've booked Denmark for Christmas dh hasn't seen his family in 2 years either also. We are going to fly though from Dublin so a 2 hour drive there first.
@BertieBotts what way do you drive ? Do you do the channel tunnel? We wanted to drive to Denmark last summer but obv couldn't. I don't fancy driving with a 5 month old though. It's a 23 hours drive for us if we do it.

Ready2020 · 16/09/2021 20:24

@afictionado she's still not down. Crying a lot and fighting boob. I'm going to put her in snuz pod with Euan the sheep and her dummy if she doesn't settle with this and just leave her to it. We've tried everything else!. This is the most stressful day. I'm hoping it's just a couple of bad days! It's not that she won't sleep, she will but wakes up after 15 minutes or less.

Ready2020 · 16/09/2021 20:28

We can't just sit with her unfortunately. She's gone from happily awake to screeching awake and flailing limbs.

Appreciate the advice though. Keep it coming Smile

Smurf123 · 16/09/2021 20:37

@Ready2020 will she settle in the pram being pushed up and down?

PurplePansy05 · 16/09/2021 20:40

@Daffodil21 I'm the same. I really don't think I could do that before DS starts school. Definitely won't rush. Part of me thinks DH and I will be too old then in a sense that with our history plus 'advanced' age, our chances of success would be low. But then every MW at the hospital said 'you're going to be back here next year, see you soon!' Uhmm. We'll see how it goes.

@biscuitcat That's seriously impressive. Good on you. We travelled extensively for years and then covid came. Now we're skint after doing up the house 🤣 However, I'm also enjoying being home and the cosy feel, especially with Leo. It actually feels like home if that makes sense? I'm in no rush to leave my little cocoon just yet. I'll be back on it when I'm back in work and pick up the pace.

@Inmypjsagain We did that, Florence & Pisa are close indeed and Italian Frecciarossa trains are great. Great trip. xx

Ready2020 · 16/09/2021 20:40

@Smurf123 OH had her out in the pram at about 7.30. She was asleep but as soon as she got into house she started up again. She seen has calmed on my boob now which is good. Maybe it'll turn into sleep then ill be afraid to move her for ages!

lucyrp · 16/09/2021 20:42

That's interesting that you all put to sleep in a dark room we were sleeping through the night with the bedside lamp on wondering why she wouldn't sleep in her own bed😂 slept with a nightlight for the last couple of nights and she's slept much better 🥴🤣

As for falling asleep on me and transferring to a pram/crib etc I always have a baby blanket over her when sleeping on me then put her down in that so it's already warm when she goes down and doesn't wake

For those EBF how long does your baby feed for on the breast and do you always offer both ?

Any monitors that work over the wifi absolutely freak me out so same with an app🥴

I'm also worrying I don't stimulate her enough as we literally do nothing when she's awake I just lie her on her playmat. She's only 3 weeks should I be doing more ? I don't talk to her that much either and I feel like every other mum constantly talks to their baby is that the case ?

As for more children I've always said I'd like 3/4 and definitely 2 with OH but this is his first. I had a weird moment the other day where I was like actually I'm really happy with the 2 I've got🥰

Ready2020 · 16/09/2021 20:44

I'm such a fidget though plus my jumpy legs mean I'm not great at not moving when she's on me. I'll just have to try until she's in deep sleep.

Smurf123 · 16/09/2021 20:52

@Ready2020 dd did similar the other day I think she was overtired. Tbh for this feed I tend to let her fall asleep feeding and just sleep on Me for a while as it's her fussy time otherwise.

Daffodil21 · 16/09/2021 20:56

DH puts him to bed because I go up early. He has him fall asleep on him then puts him in the crib. When I do the middle of the night feed I don't have him fall asleep on me first - after he's fed I put him between my legs on the bed and in his sleeping bag, and slightly propped up on a pillow. Then I pump for ten mins while he stays there (tv is always on at this point 😳), he's usually asleep by the time I've finished so I transfer him to his crib then. He usually stays settled until he's hungry again thankfully!

sarah13xx · 16/09/2021 21:03

No sex here yet either. I don’t even know when the last time was. We didn’t have sex at all in the first trimester because I was just terrified 🙈 I think it was probably a handful of times in the second trimester and probably about twice in the third trimester. I think the last one was about 33 weeks and I told him at the time it would be the last because I was too scared I’d go into labour 😂 Don’t want to end up one of those couples with a baby that just never has sex but I can’t imagine doing what I do in a day, getting him to sleep then managing to fit that in too 😂😳

We have a weekend away booked in a few weeks but not far away at all and we’ve rented a house so will be able to take all our stuff. Going to buy a travel cot before then. Our first holiday abroad won’t be until we go to Spain in June.

@lucyrp I feel like I’m constantly putting pressure on myself to be entertaining him. He gets very easily overstimulated though after just a few minutes. I read him a story tonight but he was crying by the second last page 🙄 I’m trying to speak to him all day but I definitely run out of things to say and just end up telling him about adult things I’m doing so I’m at least talking 🙈 He smiled for the first time and even though he can’t respond to what I’m saying, being able to smile makes it seem like I’m speaking to a real person more so that’s kept me going today 😂

Smurf123 · 16/09/2021 21:06

@PurplePansy05 the midwife said the same to us as we were leaving "see you next year" I said not a chance!
I said the same after ds and I struggled with making decision to try again for dd, I opted to not try (or prevent) I'm glad of the age gap between ds and dd but I won't lie I found pregnancy and the anxiety that went with it incredibly difficult for me. 2 is definitely my limit.

@lucyrp i just talk to dd as we do stuff round the house or whatever I'm doing with ds

Smurf123 · 16/09/2021 21:08

The soft play I take ds to has a sensory room , dd loves it especially the bubble tubes if only I could afford one for my own house 😂

biscuitcat · 16/09/2021 21:09

@Inmypjsagain I missed your wonder about Italy - that's near where we're going! The flight is the bit I'm dreading, especially take off and landing if he gets unhappy with his ears popping, I'll be sure to report back how it is... bringing plenty of outfit changes for everyone 😂

@PurplePansy05 that sounds so lovely being all cosy and cocooned at home 🥰

@lucyrp He feeds quite quickly now for the most part, maybe 10 minutes from one and 5 from the other, unless he falls asleep and has a dozy feed in which case it can be a really long time! I usually offer both, but quite often he doesn't really want the second. He's feeding super frequently at the moment though, more than every 2 hours in the day, so I'd love if he'd feed longer - hoping it's just a growth spurt and the gaps get bigger soon...
