There's an open pack of Lindor staring at me from across the room! Might stealth my way out the bed and eat them!

Magik01 · 16/08/2021 03:51

@Ready2020 go for it! I get even more stressed as DH is still sharing a bed with me. I would much prefer if he just slept on the sofa as i wouldn’t feel so guilty with all the noise baby is making.

Ready2020 · 16/08/2021 03:56

@Magik01 ah that's a shame. I wouldn't worry about waking him. He has the option of the sofa if he wants it! My OH is in the spare room but I miss him being next to me. I had the bed to myself when pregnant too so it's been a while.

Magik01 · 16/08/2021 04:14

@Ready2020 aw bless. I’ve moved downstairs. Wouldn’t feel like I need too if DH just wore earplugs like I’ve asked. I wouldn’t mind walking him if we only had Isaac, but he needs to have DS1 tomorrow who can be testing at times. 😂

WinterBabyof89 · 16/08/2021 04:26

@Magik01 my OH wore an eye mask and ear plugs but DD still disturbed him so I supported his move to the sofa ha.
@Ready2020 I’m the same in that I miss him and can’t wait for some structure to DD’s sleep.

The past few nights have been the same as you guys in that she won’t settle in her crib unless I keep hold of her until she’s in a deep sleep. Have to remind myself it’s not for forever! She’s started comfort suckling a lot at night.

@Aaaaa1519 congratulations - lovely news

PurplePansy05 · 16/08/2021 06:29

@Magik01 You've just described most of my nights in the last fortnight, I could have written your post myself word for word! Even the Belvita biscuits (they are just too lush?!) and crumbs in bed! 🤣

Girls if you have Lindor at home, eat your Lindor! That's my mantra! Friends brought us several boxes as gifts and omg what a lifesaver when I hit my feeding/no sleep crisis points! xx

PurplePansy05 · 16/08/2021 06:33

Oh yes and can I reiterate if you have another child/children and a newborn at home you're a total superhero?! I said that before about the pregnancy, especially the final weeks. But this now must be on another level 🤣

Congratulations @Aaaaa1519, lovely news! xx

lucyrp · 16/08/2021 06:37

@PurplePansy05 no worries you'll have to let me know how you get on with it! Can't wait to use mine ! Xx

Thanks for all the well wishes, nothing progressed during the night so now starting to question if it is actually my waters or what on earth is going on. Hoping my MW will do an examination now this morning and let me know so I have some sort of idea of what's happening.

PurplePansy05 · 16/08/2021 06:41

@lucyrp Hope it's just a slow beginning, it's not always a gush apparently, could be a slow trickle. I hope it is so they can induce you today 🙏 xx

OP posts:
lucyrp · 16/08/2021 06:45

@PurplePansy05 yeah with DS1 it was a really slow trickle like this although this seems to have eased up. It was clear and odourless so no idea what it could be 🤷🏼‍♀️ if I end up being induced looks like il he spending my birthday in hospital on my own 🥺xx

Fran919 · 16/08/2021 07:17

Congratulations @Aaaaa1519!

@lucyrp hopefully it’s not so you don’t have to be in hospital for your birthday and little one arrives soon after. Out of curiosity, what was your first induction like?

I don’t know whether to ask for a sweep before mine or just go with the induction. Im not hopeful I’ll go spontaneously beforehand as I’ve had no signs whatsoever.

lucyrp · 16/08/2021 07:22

@Fran919 I didn't actually end up being induced first time around, I went in in the morning but it was Easter bank holiday weekend so they were very busy and did an examination etc and I was already contracting without knowing so I don't think they were too bothered by me and shoved me in a room until they had time for me but by that time I was in full labour anyway and transferred to w delivery suite x

Ava50x · 16/08/2021 09:47

@Aaaaa1519 congrats! Glad you're both doing OK.

@lucyrp fingers crossed things start moving for you!

WolfMother326 · 16/08/2021 11:44

Good morning all. Came into hospital for a scheduled 40 week scan and it looks like my placenta is giving up on her job. I'm currently in the day assessment unit. The baby looks well but there's concern the placenta is about to stop functioning. So I'll be heading home to get my stuff and DH and then returning for induction this afternoon. I really wanted to go into labour without induction but of course want baby to get here safely so trying to roll with it. Wish me luck!

WolfMother326 · 16/08/2021 11:58

Congratulations @Aaaaa1519! So pleased for you

PurplePansy05 · 16/08/2021 12:12

@WolfMother326 All the best Flowers We're thinking of you and sending positive vibes xxx

@WolfMother326 hope all goes well! Looking forward to your update x

wimbler · 16/08/2021 12:18

Congratulations @Aaaaa1519!

Did my first outing with two kids today. Managed a quick trip round Sainsbury’s and a coffee and feed in Starbucks so feel like I’ve achieved something even if I forgot loads of stuff on my list 😂

A family member just had her little boy at 24 weeks. We’re not close but as a mum I just want to help her but I can’t. So terrifying for her. He’s so unbelievably tiny.

biscuitcat · 16/08/2021 12:29

@Aaaaa1519 congratulations!! Glad to hear you're both doing well 🥰

@WolfMother326 oh gosh, good luck!! You'll be amazing xxx

Can I ask a question about nipple shields - I'm sure I saw some others were using them! Is anyone using as their nipple shape is making it difficult for baby to latch? Mine are a bit flat for DS and he's struggling, but when I use them he gets on with it straight away! And any top tips?

BertieBotts · 16/08/2021 12:37

Oh wimbler that is worrying. But if it helps the very first baby born in our NCT group when I was pregnant with DS1 came at 24 weeks and he turned 13 a few weeks ago. Absolutely lovely young man and no long term problems.

Wolf how exciting! My doctor said my placenta is calcifying but she also said it's normal at 40 weeks so they wouldn't induce me at the minute. Is that the same thing or maybe yours is a bit more advanced into that state than mine? I do have to have appointments every 2 days now.

biscuitcat I've seen little nipple suction hat things you can buy to help draw out flat nipples before a feed, is that helpful at all? If it's working with the shields I wouldn't worry - you might be able to wean off them later as he gets a stronger suck.

I had my check up this morning and baby has finally engaged, yay! I was offered a sweep but decided not to have it. Maybe if I get more impatient later in the week I might change my mind :o

Daffodil21 · 16/08/2021 12:44

@biscuitcat yes I am using shields. He just won't latch without it and never has. The midwife yesterday to just persevere for a couple of weeks and he may learn to latch on his own. If he doesn't I'll continue to use them. She said the shape of my nipples is good and she's surprised he isn't latching, but he just isn't. I'm also pumping (massive improvement in volume over last few days which I'm really pleased about!) and we are also still using formula sometimes too. I think we'll always use a bit of formula just so I get a break. Are you managing to get a full feed using the shields? I usually have to top up with some expressed.

Magik01 · 16/08/2021 12:46

@PurplePansy05 honestly I’m terrified when DH goes back to work and I have both sons to deal with. I don’t think the day will be too bad as newborns sleep a lot. It’s if I get no sleep at all which is what’s happening at the moment!

@lucyrp good luck for today, hopefully there’s still time to progress naturally but either way, at least you’ll get moving today!

@WolfMother326 sending positive vibes your way Flowers it’s good that they are being proactive and acting before anything untoward happened. You’ll smash it!

@Ready2020 @WinterBabyof89 hopefully we get a better night tonight. Did you both manage to get any sleep? Mine fell asleep at 5am downstairs for about an hour and a half in his Moses basket. I sent DH to get infocol this morning so hoping maybe it will help?

Magik01 · 16/08/2021 12:48

@wimbler any outing with two children is a massive win. I’ve not tried yet, however me and DH did take them both out for the first time yesterday. I bet doing it alone is a military operation!

I hope your family member is okay, as well as the little one. Flowers

WolfMother326 · 16/08/2021 12:56

Thanks everyone. @BertieBotts I'm really not sure. They said the placenta had deteriorated past level III, whatever that means. I could see on the ultrasound that it had what looked like patches or holes in it.

Aaaaa1519 · 16/08/2021 13:03

Thank you everyone

To anyone getting induced my top tip would be take your own codeine/paracetamol if it’s busy there or understaffed. You may not need it I certainly did as contractions came thick and fast but it was so understaffed I had to wait ages for pain relief.

Good luck to anyone going in. Hope all goes well
