I can't remember who said it now but pump comfort depends highly on the flange size. you need to make sure you have the right size for you so check whether your pump has different options and how they recommend to choose one.

Inmypjsagain · 19/08/2021 11:40

@biscuitcat just saw the baby episode and I was worried the screaming was gonna wake him up 😂 aw hope you’re okay, a lot of tears all round!

@HopefulB sounds like you’ve got it sorted. I think it’s more the thought that worries me, but really it’s not long out, he’ll be at home, but I just feel guilty. Good shout on the razor, I usually wax but think that might be on hold for a while. My Bikini area is wild but I don’t know what they shaved me with for my c section because I’ve got so many ingrown hairs, big old spots… I can’t get a wax with my scar healing anyway so I’m just ignoring it for now! Think I’m going to just book an appointment for next week and make sure I express enough for husband to feed if needs be!

lucyrp · 19/08/2021 11:58

@Inmypjsagain how often do you normally wash your hair if 2 days is a long time ?!🤯 I do every 4 and wish I could go longer!

Inmypjsagain · 19/08/2021 12:03

@lucyrp belated happy birthday!!! 🎂 sorry I’m late!
I’ve been washing my hair daily, it’s very greasy normally and I’d do every other day usually but I sweat so much in the night at the moment, I wake up soaking and my head feels unpleasant. Wish I could get away with every 4 days, I’ll wash in the morning, have a day of dry shampoo and repeat cycle… you could currently fry an egg on my head 🤢🙃

lucyrp · 19/08/2021 12:05

@Inmypjsagain thank you! No worries!
I used to wash my hair daily but my best friend is a hair dresser and goes mad at me so I've managed to train myself into every 3/4 days. I do 2 days with it down then 1 day half up half down and then the last with it up depending on what plans I have. However at the moment I have had my mum french plait it for me so it's out of the way for 4 days 😂 managed to bribe her into doing it as I said it would be handy out of the way for labour! She's done it twice so far and still no labour 😅

HopefulB · 19/08/2021 12:05

@Inmypjsagain, sounds like it’s all sorted as baby hasn’t arrived yet! I’m also very lucky that everything is close by - but I’m under no illusion that what seems simple now may be a massive task in a hormonal, sleep deprived fug. However I know myself that if it’s booked I will make it work, where as if I don’t book it now I’ll end up looking like
Cousin It with a 6 month only baby before I do anything!!

I am dreading ‘the shave’ as I am really prone to ingrown hairs/infected follicles!

wimbler · 19/08/2021 12:37

so much to catch up on! I’ve got some dummies but DH is quite anti. He thinks we will create a bigger problem further down the line. That said, I’m always the one who ends up settling DS. I trialled one the other day and he took it fine but DH wasn’t too happy about it. DD was a terrible sleeper so I’m keen to avoid that this time. Most sleep consultants We looked into praised the dummy but DD refused one.

My supply is tanking in the evenings at the moment. Little man was cluster feeding last night but I felt like I had nothing left to give him and was saving the bottle I had in the fridge for the 10pm feed. I like to give a bottle at that feed so I know he’s got a full tummy before sleep. Seems to work for us as he’s been sleeping from 11-4 or 5 so I get a good stretch of sleep. After that he’s SO NOISY. grunting and making the loudest noises until morning. He’s asleep but I can’t sleep at all!

PurplePansy05 · 19/08/2021 14:40

@wimbler Same here, I felt last night I had no more milk 🤦🏼‍♀️ the supply has increased again today, though!

@Inmypjsagain You'll be grand - I had my nails, eyebrows and a facial done split across two days when DS was 1 week old. I expressed some milk and left him with DH (they dropped me off to my appointments). I also have my hair appointment in 3 weeks' time and a hygienist coming up. It's absolutely fine, all about some prep, either expressing or formula depending on what you and DH normally do.

I shaved my legs by propping them on the toilet, put a towel over the toilet first not to create a mess and off I went. I couldn't reach my ankles with the CS scar otherwise! Even managed to slap on cheeky fake tan and I finally don't look like a ghost Grin

I'm just sat here feeding, catching up on Live Island, sipping on my cold espresso and waiting for another batch of baked oats to be ready. Today I made them with bananas, blueberries and peanut butter.

Love the french plait @lucyrp, exactly what I've done yesterday and today. So good when you have long hair! xx

Day 4 and the baby blues seem to be kicking in. Between lack of sleep and engorged boobs I feel horrible and miss the routine I’d gotten into with dd1. Poor thing must be feeling it too even though shes too young to say whats wrong, she just burst into tears this morning and clung to me for ages.
Haven’t managed to catch up on thread properly, will do once the brain fog has lifted. Just had to vent out my feelings a bit
Hope everyone else is feeling much better x

PurplePansy05 · 19/08/2021 15:30

@Aaaaa1519 I am sure she's not feeling your blues lovely! Honestly don't feel her crying or clinging on on is in any way determined by this Flowers she'll be fine and you'll be fine too ❤ it's such a ride though. I feel for you, painful and engorged breasts would be horrendous for me too and I think we all massively sympathise Flowers Have you called your midwife? There's been some good advice from girls more experienced than me on here too, will you try any of those methods? xx

BertieBotts · 19/08/2021 15:53

So he's done another nice big wee and they say we can go home tomorrow! They just want to do the newborn heel prick test before we go. But all clear health wise! They were a bit concerned in case I struggled to establish feeding but when I said I've breastfed two children before they relaxed about that too.

Ready2020 · 19/08/2021 16:00

Jesus @PurplePansy05 where do you find the energy! 😂

We had our first outing to a local cafe today. It was good to be out and she didn't wake up so no drama. It made me a bit sad actually. Which is not nice to say. Made me miss the days before pregnancy and baby. I think I'm still finding it hard to admit that I'm taking time to adjust to this new life. We got home and I wanted to clean up the bedroom, put on a new set of covers etc but Rowan needs fed so I'm instead sat on said sweaty old covers and probably will be for another half hour where she'll then need entertainment or held. I don't worry about depression or anything. I don't feel like I'd go down that road. I just want to enjoy this stage as much as I can but I'm already longing for the days where she can entertain herself a little.

Daffodil21 · 19/08/2021 16:05

@Ready2020 maybe @PurplePansy05 gets the energy from the oats 😂

First day on our own today as DH switched a day at work for next week to cover for someone off sick. I basically stayed in bed all morning chilling/feeding/cuddles and had a friend over for coffee. Now hooked back up to the pump!

I stopped watching love island last week but tempted to start again!

PurplePansy05 · 19/08/2021 16:14

It is the oats, I'm serious! To be clear, I haven't done it all today. I wish! I've described my TLC done in the last 2.5 weeks! Today I started off thinking I'd put a nice, fresh shirt on and this would be my feel good thing. Well, I'm sat in it counting patches of sick, poo and Lansinoh that probably won't come off. Glitz and glamour and all that! xx

Daffodil21 · 19/08/2021 16:18

I've got another stupid question - is is ok to just carry the baby to a shop round the corner? I need to pop to the pharmacy and it's literally a 2 min walk away. I can't be bothered to phaff about with the pram in there but I also haven't sussed out the sling yet! Is there anything wrong with just carrying him or should I just phaff with the pram?!

BertieBotts · 19/08/2021 16:23

Only that your arms might get tired :)

WinterBabyof89 · 19/08/2021 16:45

@Ready2020 it is crap when you’re tied to the baby and can achieve nothing else.
Today my boys have entertained themselves, We’ve been in bed all day and I’m sat in big granny knickers & a dressing gown with DD asleep on my boob - every time I move she fusses so I’m trapped haha
OH has messaged to say he’s staying on at work - I was looking forward to my 5 o’clock cup of tea that he makes haha

Life is different so it’s ok to need an adjustment period

Inmypjsagain · 19/08/2021 17:03

@lucyrp i tried training but I just had greasy hair, I tried at the start of lockdown and just felt too gross- might give it a go this mat leave! French plait such a good idea!

@HopefulB I think what you’re doing is wise otherwise you end up like me and worried to go out! I also get ingrown hairs, which is why I wouldn’t usually shave, I’ve also been careful with exfoliating the area but I wish I did now cos I’m so uncomfortable!

@wimbler yes such a noisy sleeper here too! I don’t get how he doesn’t wake up!

@PurplePansy05 I’m booked in for next week, wax and eyebrows for one day and pedicure for another. I’ll express but we’ve just bought some Kendamil formula to try so he’ll have food. I do wonder how I’ll get out the door in time but that’s a worry for another day!

@Aaaaa1519 oh sorry to hear, I’ve been told day 3/4 is worst for the hormones. But it is tough and painful so it’s totally legitimate to feel crap, hope it passes but do allow some time to wallow and process xx

@BertieBotts woo and go Alexander! Always good to hear there’s been a pee! Bet you can’t wait to get home to everyone and get settled. And to guilt free dress him in weather appropriate clothes! 😂

@Ready2020 I know what you mean, I’m wondering if we can hire someone to babysit the night to give us a clear night sleep to feel a bit more normal. But I’m scrolling Instagram and everyone seemed to be out for brunch at the weekend… we’ll be able to do that again too, but i felt a bit sad thinking we’d lost the freedom to do that easily (honestly I go for a walk everyday and I’m just so crap with the pram, I spend ages overpacking supplies that we never need…! Then if we were out I’d be worried there’d be crying or a mess etc)

@Daffodil21 glad your day went well! Do you ever feel chained to that bloody pump?! I’d have thought carrying is fine… but I’d probably panic and take the pram anyway!!!

Daffodil21 · 19/08/2021 17:18

@Inmypjsagain I do a little, but he hardly ever takes from me as it takes too long with the shirks and he still won't latch without, so I feel less chained to the pump than I probably would to him if I was ebf if that makes sense.

Inmypjsagain · 19/08/2021 17:45

@Daffodil21 that’s good, I’m either chained to baby or the pump. I’m so thirsty all of the time as a result!

Daffodil21 · 19/08/2021 17:48

@Inmypjsagain I meant shields, not shirks! Ah I bet!! I feel like I can't drink enough and I'm only pumping!

Ready2020 · 19/08/2021 18:54

For those breast feeding how long do you expect to do it for? Also how long do you expect baby to be in same room as you? Guidance is 6 months but my snuz pod said its not suitable for babies who can roll and that can happen at 4 months!

BertieBotts · 19/08/2021 18:58

I fed DC1 for 4 years and DC2 nearly 3 years so will probably go over a year again. But I find it's best not to really have a date on these things and just to see what is working or not working at the time. I was very happy to wean DC2 whereas I let DC1 finish by himself.

For room sharing again see what feels right. The guidance says 6 months but the risk of SIDS reduces by 4 months so if I was going to move early I'd probably keep that as a minimum age in my mind. But going by the last two I'm guessing we will room share a lot longer, probably about a year unless he sleeps through freakishly early! It's annoying to go back and forth to another room to feed at night.

BertieBotts · 19/08/2021 19:01

I always think for the rolling thing though unless it's really padded that's just to cover their arse? I mean it's not like you leave them alone in these things. The co sleepers I've had say not to use once the baby can sit up because of the theoretical risk they might pull themselves over the edge, but I've always used them past a year. They aren't ever left alone and awake in them and I can see why the warning needs to be there but practically, it's not a real risk relevant to how you use the product.

BertieBotts · 19/08/2021 19:05

He is just too squishy. Look!
