@happytobemrsg wow! If only all labours were like that! I was induced and on the drip the whole time so have no idea how long my natural labours would last. Hoping for a nice, relaxed natural labour this time 🤞🏻

I’m spending tonight shitting myself preparing for the first of my interviews with potential new company tomorrow. Hard to feel all that enthused when it’s not of my making or choice. Not what I expected to be doing at 29 weeks! But trying to remain positive and see long terms gains, even if short term pain (much like labour!)

IVEgottheDECAF · 01/07/2019 18:25

happytobemrsg could you not feel contractions? I thought i was good getting to the hospital at 7cm but i certainly didnt sleep through it!

Movement are really jerky, strong and low down. Like in my bits!

Had scan today - think I might have seen more than intended (we are team yellow) but it could have been something else...

Baby is measuring big! All over but especially tummy measurement- 95th percentile. Consultant will be happy so long as growth tracks along this line and doesn't veer off any higher!

Also told that our trust doesn't allow you to go over due date (nice is 40+6 I believe for GD) but due date only here, so will be induced latest 6th September!!

Not sure how I feel about that... the organisational me loves knowing a latest date, however the horror stories of inductions puts me off a bit! At least I have plenty of time to get my head around the idea I suppose....

Tefiti2 · 01/07/2019 18:43

That’s an interesting policy @kyles101 did they explain why? Always remember that even if that’s their policy - you are well within your rights to decline an induction unless medically indicated!

Stroan · 01/07/2019 18:59

@kyles101 that's really common but you can refuse induction and ask for regular monitoring instead. They said they wouldn't let me go past my due date and then changed their mind with DD.

P.S had a great induction!

Florencenotflo · 01/07/2019 19:12

I have consultant and another growth scan on Wednesday. Hopefully I have a nicer consultant this time, do you think I can ask not to see the one I saw before? With dd they told me she was going to be over 10lbs, this was at 38/39 weeks. I decided to just go with the flow, she was born at 40+11 at 8lbs 10oz! So there is a margin of error with growth scans.

Anyone looking at hypnobirthing, I'd really recommend the positive birth company. It's getting me through my VBAC prep! It's slightly cheaper today as well, £32 instead of £35. Plus they've just added things to it I believe. I'm a total convert, just got to get DH watching the videos now!

Florencenotflo · 01/07/2019 19:15

And has anyone got numb spots on their bump? It's really weird but there is a horse shoe shape area around my belly button from the top to the bottom that is completely numb! It's just the skin, I can still 'feel' it when I touch there. So odd, wondered if it was to do with previous c section?

Puglover88 · 01/07/2019 19:26

@Florencenotflo I’m really interested in hypno birthing so thanks for the recommendation, I’ll look into them!

Sleep is alluding me at the moment, can’t sleep in my sides as it hurts my hips and my legs go dead and achy so I’m sleeping propped up which is also not the most comfortable! 😩

DustyDoorframes · 01/07/2019 19:26

Hah happytobe I'm like you, with DC2 never got to the point of contractions I couldn't talk through so only realised it was the real thing when I desperately needed to push (I was induced with DC1, and had a fab induction, so didn't have to decide when to call the midwife...).
Re trusts/consultants "letting" you- as tefiti says, you don't have to accept ANY treatment offered, its your body. And they can blinking well explain why they are recommending whatever it is!!!

Puglover88 · 01/07/2019 19:28

Also @TwittleBee sorry to hear you’re in pain from c section, hopefully it eases soon. Hope baby Twittle is doing well! Xx

Hsunshine · 01/07/2019 19:32

Are any consultants good? I have mine this week but all these posts are making me feel like they’re not good...

ColdCottage · 01/07/2019 19:34

Does anyone else feel like their ribs are being slowly torn apart where their bra meets? So painful

IVEgottheDECAF · 01/07/2019 19:39

No rib pain but i have had to go to the last hook on my bra and it still feeling tight

OP posts:
Hsunshine · 01/07/2019 19:43

my right side ribs feels constantly uncomfortable

happydays00 · 01/07/2019 19:47

I've had another growth scan and consultant appointment today. They have said that if my fluid levels stay as they are baby will be coming out at 37 weeks (19 August) and if the fluid levels increase it will be sooner. She's also said it will be c section.

Things have just got very real, very fast. I need to buy some baby things!!!!

Florencenotflo · 01/07/2019 19:50

@Puglover88 I'm recommending it to anyone that mentions hypnobirthing 🙈 I should be on commission! I just found it very practical, almost like common sense. I think they do have some bits of it on you tube for free if you google them or look up Shioban Miller.

When I mentioned my bad experience with my consultant to my midwife @Hsunshine she kind of rolled her eyes and agreed with me that yes they can be a bit useless. She said they only deal in worst case scenario a lot of the time, so often seem disinterested when it's a relatively straight forward case. And at the end of the day, the final decisions lay with you, it's your body, your baby. They can advise, but you can make your own decision based on their advice. Midwives are a lot more open to ideas and often are happy to manage risk where possible.

ShowerTheHorse · 01/07/2019 19:54

@Hsunshine I've seen quite a few consultants and all except one were good and informative, the other just made me fear the worst and kept yawning when I was asking questions which just made him seen uninterested. He was a twat.

I've been meaning to ask how you are getting on growth wise? I had a scan last week to check blood flow and fluid and all looks good there, I've also had blood tests to test for any infection and there's no infection. I have another growth scan on Wednesday and will still be scanned weekly.. hope everything is okay with you.

boodles101 · 01/07/2019 19:55

florencenotflo definitely ask to see a different consultant. My midwife told me to do that and the next one I saw was so much better.
I also have numb spots on my bump, around my belly button and over the side where my boy lays. Sometimes I can only feel him kick if my hand is on my belly, which is so weird cos I can feel it on my hand my not actually on my skin!

Hsunshine · 01/07/2019 20:00

@happydays00 at least you know now to prepare! I have my third growth scan and consultant this week so hoping they will make a decision as they keep mentoining 37 weeks (which will be the week before you in August)

I hope my consultant is good, I have to see them every 2 weeks

kyles101 · 01/07/2019 20:02

Thanks ladies - she just said "because of the risk of stillbirth" which was pretty terrifying! I will deffo be asking more questions closer to the time now.

Hsunshine · 01/07/2019 20:04

@ShowerTheHorse I had that scan last week too, placenta and that was ok. And a growth one this weds too, you must be on sale days as me! They’ve planned scans every week up until 37
I’m getting very worried that if baby has dropped more this week that either they’ll want to take him out after the next one (around 34) or do ‘screening tests’ this week (no idea but in my notes)

Whisky2014 · 01/07/2019 20:28

Is anyone buying a TENS machine? I looked at rental but seems silly if i can buy one for £25 quid. Was looking at this one..
www.amazon.co.uk/Med-Fit-Channel-Machine-Fast-Effective-Relief/dp/B0052607XW?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

But I actually want this one (£75). Would it be alot better than the one on Amazon?

ColdCottage · 01/07/2019 20:51

@Whisky2014 I bought one at an NCT sale last time. Was good for post baby back pain as well so check out the second hand market and just buy new pads.

KLane · 01/07/2019 20:55

@kyles101Yes that’s the argument they use for all indications over 42 weeks in most cases! They’ll probably tell you it doubles, but (I’m not sure about the GD situation stats), even the doubled risk is well under 1%. And this figure isn’t limited to women with regular monitoring. So just make sure to ask for the absolute risk and not just the relative risk!
