Aw @Kescilly that's awful! If it helps I'm from here and I still find the whole process and who to contact for what confusing and finding answers basically impossible! Also finding that other than the BP check and urine sample they won't/can't do much else at appointments.

Please don't let that experience put you off calling in future if you think you need to, it's their job to look after after you and you have to think of yourself and baby rather than annoying them.

Bigonesmallone3 · 09/03/2019 01:09

Up at gone 1am with a baby that is having a solo dance off..

I hope this isn't the start of insomnia..
I had it last time, it coincided with the nesting so I was mrs productive in the early hours!

2countries1bump · 09/03/2019 04:11

@Bigonesmallone3 I sympathize! Couldn't fall asleep now wide awake too early! Not sure how I'll make it through the day....

MauisLeftNipple · 09/03/2019 13:34

I think the problem with calling the community midwives for something such as suspected bleeding is that they're not in a position to do anything if your problem is actually of concern - the hospital midwives are. Also, they tend not to be in their office all day, they are out and about. They don't work every day, so may not get your message for 1-2 days.

Where I used to live, we had to call the Birth Centre if we had any worries. It is staffed 24/7 and there is always someone to answer the phone.

Here, my only option is to call my local maternity unit, but I have been advised if I have any issues I must call Labour Ward, as the phone is manned 24/7. My booking MW told me by all means to call their office, however actually seemed to be recommeneding callling Labour Ward first so they could advise who was the correct person to ccontact.

I would call my Community MW re blood tests, appts, general aches and pains (if you think you need a referral for physio for eg), if you want to discuss birth options before your next appt, etc etc. The non urgent stuff that can perhaps wait a couple of days.

I would call triage/labour ward/day assessment unit for any unusual discharge, pain, reduced movements, if you've had a fall, sudden onset of itchiness (you could alternatively see GP), swelling - anything medical basically. They absolutely will take your worries seriously, in my experience, and they'd rather you get yourself checked than not.

Heyha · 09/03/2019 19:49

Turns out they don't measure here til 28 week appointment so it was another urine/bp/heartbeat one for me.
Heartbeat was 130 (was 136 when I went for in for rfm as well) which she said was 'boyish' which sits with my other old wives tale 'evidence' for it being a boy, not being very sick and having a neat little bump. We shall see!

Kescilly · 09/03/2019 22:36

@WeeBean thanks, I think now that I know I will just call the hospital every time. Since that’s apparently what I’m meant to do! Hopefully there won’t be many occasions where it’s needed.

@MauisLeftNipple that definitely makes sense. It’s hard to know who to contact and since the GP’s office directed me to the community midwife, I thought I had finally gotten the right person. They knew what my issues were so I guess it’s a matter of them not knowing services well themselves.

@Heyha so strange how it differs depending on location. I’ve had my bump measured at my 25 week appointment but still no heartbeat yet! I wonder if they’ll listen at my 28 week appointment this week.

How is everyone’s weekend going?

Hello, I wonder if it's too late to join this discussion...? I'm due on 12th June. I've read the thread(s) for a while, but I've been a bit nervous about joining in earlier as this is my fourth pregnancy in a year and a half, and hopefully the first successful one! I'm hitting 27 weeks on Wednesday, so I'm finally starting to relax into the pregnancy a bit - especially as the little guy is getting his dance moves on every night now which is reassuring!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 11/03/2019 16:34

Hello @swiftfox I have a due date twin at last! Congratulations and welcome to the thread. Sorry it's been such a hard time for you, but fab to hear that things are going well with this pregnancy.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/03/2019 17:27

Hello @swiftfox

Never too late to join.

I’m 26 weeks now and fed up of my commute. Even though I only do it twice a week. London commuting whilst pregnant is shit.

Fed up.

rollerskaterdata · 11/03/2019 18:41

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut I hear you. I also commute to London, again only twice a week and I hate every second of it. Vast majority of people are courteous but you still get the ass holes who pretend they haven't seen you and then you need to outright ask for a seat. I hate doing it even though I'm entitled to seats clearly marked 'for pregnant or disabled people!'

KoalasAteMyHomework · 11/03/2019 19:11

I'm so glad I don't have to commute this time round. Commuted 90 mins each way 5 days a week when pregnant with DS so know what you mean about it being shit. And the people in the seats for pregnant people NEVER gave them up. I remember having to sit on the floor at about 25 weeks for an hour as the train was packed and nobody gave up a seat. I think this time I'd just kick someone out of the seat for the pregnant/disabled.

Bizawit · 11/03/2019 19:51

Welcome @swiftfox. Yay for 27 weeks! 😊

Everyone on the tube this evening was pretending they didn’t see me. CFs! I’m way to shy to ask for a seat but I do try to push my belly out as much as possible 😂.

swiftfox · 11/03/2019 20:07

Thank you all for the warm welcome Smile

I'm also a Londoner and have to commute every day so I feel your pain... A man on the tube today asked me, rather passive-aggressively, if I wanted his seat. I'd been sticking my bump in his face for at least ten minutes. Honestly, most of the time people giving up their seats are other women - almost never men. At least I'm lucky that I only have to use one line to get to work.

@KoalasAteMyHomework oh yay to 12th June! Though I think my consultant wants the little one out at 39 weeks because of my, eh, advanced maternal age of 39.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/03/2019 20:23

I was not having any nonsense on the train tonight and actually tapped my badge at some asshat who slid in front of me to get into the (priority) seat first.

Yep, I tapped my badge at someone. No wonder some other woman was glowering at me all the way home like I’d just single handedly unravelled 150 years of feminism or something.

hexagon01 · 11/03/2019 20:32

Hahaha at the badge tapping - do not envy your London commutes! Though my walk to work is getting slower and slower as my hips/pelvis/back give up on me. Literally I am 29 years old and only 26 weeks pregnant, this is deeply not helpful.

Also: fuck heartburn.

HoneyPea · 11/03/2019 20:39

I went to London with my DH a few weeks ago (at 22 weeks) and each journey we made people were getting up and offering me their seat before I had fully got on the train (I did get fairly big quick and I'm only small so look way bigger!) We didn't go during morning or afternoon commute times though, must just be business people that are rude and not wanting to give up seats 😡!

@hexagon01 heartburn is the worst 🔥 It's got really bad for me the last week (25 weeks) thought it was supposed to start later 😢

mummysuz · 11/03/2019 20:49

I've had to cut out orange juice and anything with a tomato sauce or I get heartburn. Never had it before so it's a bit of a shock.

Anyone else finding some days they feel massive and super pregnant and then other days they could forget they are event pregnant at all. Little one is not hugely active still so it might change when I feel him moving more regularly. I'm 25 weeks tomorrow.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/03/2019 20:53

allegedly - note allegedly - heartburn is much much more common and intense with boy babies for reasons I do not understand.

That and with hairy babies too. Seriously. Although I can’t remember where I read that link either but I swear I’m not making up a link between gaviscon consumption and newborn infants that come out with massive barnets.

rollerskaterdata · 11/03/2019 21:18

I mean it's bloody ridiculous, and I'm a feminist! We are pregnant and get out of breath / sore pelvis, hips and back / feel dizzy when standing for more than a few minutes, I have a medical need to sit down SO F*ING MOVEEEEEE!!!

Ok I'm calm now Grin

Don't even get me started on heartburn 🤨

Bigonesmallone3 · 11/03/2019 21:44

My heartburn is on top form, as it was for my last two pregnancy's one of which was a girl other a boy..

(Both my baby's had very little hair)

allfurcoatnoknickers · 12/03/2019 06:15

No one on the NY subway has offered their seat to me. A space didn't even clear round me when I was having a heartburn triggered dry heaving session during rush hour Angry

Kimbishop86 · 12/03/2019 07:34

So tired! DS has been up at 1am for the past two nights, puked all over me, his bed, my bed and everything else and then refused to go back to sleep for ages. All I've done is washing and tried to stay away for two days! When will it ennnndddd!! Oh and I'm with everyone on the heartburn! Definitely didn't happen this early last time!

Blondcat · 12/03/2019 08:30

Yup the heartburn sucks doesn't seem to matter what I eat by afternoon /evening I get it sometimes it goes on its own which I find very weird but mostly need the gaviscon do not leave the house without it and I am having a girl (obviously no idea on hair yet).

Reastie · 12/03/2019 09:10

Really feel for those of you commuting, it’s grim at the best of times but must be a whole new level now.

It’s been over 3 weeks since I saw my nurse who said she would refer me the next day for help with another dept. Have heard nothing since and have no contact info for chasing up but seeing mw later this week so will ask then.

Think I’m coming down with dds cold and feeling absolutely miserable. Still feeling sicky constantly too and feeling ill really isn’t helping matters.

I had awful heartburn last time and had to sleep sitting up. I had a girl with lots of hair! Heartburn has been horrible but intermittent atm, I’m dreading it reaching the levels of last time.

toomanyflatwhites · 12/03/2019 10:46

I travel on the tube at busy times every day and I have to say - for the most part - people are pretty good at giving up seats. If they don't I sometimes just Stick my bump out but I am sure it's just not noticing rather than wilful selfish arsery...but maybe I'll try badge tapping next time, that's hilarious!!
@Kimbishop86 I feel for you, that is rough...I am feeling so shattered today, DD was awake an hour after we went to sleep absolutely SCREAMING for me and then I fell asleep with her in the toddler bed and woke up 2 hours later in all sorts of pain, feeling wrecked this morning (not helped by her also being a nightmare to get to nursery this morning). Luckily am working from home today but trying very hard to be productive (so that I can have a nap later!!)...
