No specific post-natal category so I've added it to the normal ante-natal category ...

Baby Jasper was born in the early hours of yesterday morning after a super rapid labour which had a few complications!
When I arrived at labour ward they told me I was 1cm, cervix still had 2cm to go and to go home and wait for 24 hours.

Fortunately we had to come back in an hour as my water broke containing meconium!

Hello to all the mums and babies as I've been totally neglecting the thread.

@LaBelle wow that's fast! Congratulations on baby Jasper.

Hazandduck · 27/11/2017 21:32

Ah congratulations @Labelle and wow that was fast!!! Hope you and Baby Jasper are doing ok and you’re not in too much shock. I had a quick labour and it took me a good 3-4 days to properly absorb what had happened!

@sock Ah you’re back on the road :) Oh god it was not easy, I was actually sweating by the time I got in the car lol. I’m back on my mini pill now too.

We got discharged from the Midwife today, Matilda is just above her birth weight today at 10 days old which does make me feel a bit better about how exhausted I feel from being a dairy cow morning noon and night! X

DuRezidal · 27/11/2017 22:12

Thank you for the support, I managed to get everything done today so giving myself a gentle pat on the back as I climb my aching bones into bed at 10pm!

I absolutely love having a son though, I never thought I would feel so protective over him at this point. Our daughter has always been little miss independent even from a very early age, but I am so proud of her for that because I want her to grow up to be a strong and confident young lady. But seeing how much responsibility she wants with Jasper has made me the proudest mummy in the world.

theotherendofthesockportal · 27/11/2017 23:00

Congratulations @LaBelleSausage, welcome to the world Jasper!

GingerHanna · 28/11/2017 01:11

Congratulations @LaBelleSausage although come on, you know the rules... pictures! 😁

GingerHanna · 28/11/2017 01:12

@Motherhippy16 so, your back ache... sounds promising? 😏

Motherhippy16 · 28/11/2017 09:01

@gingerhanna unfortunalty it is all upperback pain.... I have had ligament pain but that's it. I'm sure he will be here when he is ready.... but it feels as though everything is on pause till then! X I hope you are well x

LaBelleSausage · 28/11/2017 09:25

Sorry ladies! How could I forget!

Provided I've done this properly, here he is Smile

Labour was a bit mental. I went in and was told that I was clearly having strong contractions a minute apart, but my cervix wasn't even 1cm dilated and was still 2cm long, so I was asked go home and they said they would see me in 24 hours or so. We got home, and my meconium filled waters broke shortly afterwards so called back and went back in - where to their total shock I was already at 3cm. They were very impressed with my controlled breathing techniques!

Couldn't have my water birth, so gas and aired for a while but the baby's rates kept dropping. They weren't sure if it was the rate of labour or distress so offered a section but as labouring was still going like the clappers, I was still managing with the gas and didn't want to try and stay still for an epidural or have full anaesthetic so that seemed faster.

When we got to the push stage they kept seeing the top of the head appear and draw back again, then realised the cord was twice around his neck and somehow wasn't long enough for him to get out, so I needed an episiotomy and for them to cut the cord while he was still inside and help him out with forceps.

They did that, checked him over and stitched me up, but I kept loosing more and more blood and they then noticed a haematoma.
At some point my womb had been punctured so had filled with blood and clots so I had an epidural and then surgery to repair.

Felt so sorry for my poor husband as I think it was actually worse for him than for me!

I don't feel at all traumatised although they have offered to go through everything with me if needed. I had a really fantastic level of care and it's testament to it that I came home yesterday after giving birth and going through all the rest on Sunday morning.

Wow @labellesausage, it sounds like Jasper has an eventful arrival. Glad that you are both safe and well. Congratulations!

Wow @LaBelleSausage that’s quite some delivery! Glad you are both okay and hope you heal quickly.

Beautiful picture by the way!

LaBelleSausage · 28/11/2017 10:08

I may put a warning review on the raspberry leaf tea I bought on amazon !! Grin

theotherendofthesockportal · 28/11/2017 10:19

@LaBelleSausage wow, that was an arrival and a half! Jasper is gorgeous!

butterybollocks · 28/11/2017 10:26

Wow @labellesausage! Congratulations, he's gorgeous.

Hazandduck · 28/11/2017 11:23

I can imagine that was scary for your husband @labelle! I imagine witnessing it was hard for him. It sounds like you had an incredible team looking after you! So glad it all went ok and you don’t feel badly affected by it x

Hazandduck · 28/11/2017 11:23

Oh and PS Jasper is a beautiful boy! X

AccrualIntentions · 28/11/2017 11:49

Jasper is a cutie!

@Motherhippy16 it must be frustrating waiting, I hope your little one puts in an appearance soon.

I'm having a good day today actually, I feel really positive. It's sleeting and freezing cold outside so we're staying in with all the radiators on, I have a big mug of coffee and lots of oat biscuits and we don't have to go anywhere or do anything. I don't miss work one little bit Smile

Hazandduck · 28/11/2017 13:53

That sounds perfect @accrual! The sun is absolutely blazing where I am so we are heading out for a nice autumn walk with my mum!

LaBelleSausage · 28/11/2017 14:12

Thanks all, I hope all the babies and bumps are having a nice toasty day.

Jasper and I actually ventured to Asda as we soon realised that only having 6 vests which fit him was a bit of an issue if I want to go a day without running a washing machine.

I'm slightly concerned with what else I might have very casually underprepared for!!!

Has anyone else soon discovered something like that?

butterybollocks · 28/11/2017 14:18

@labellesausage there's all sorts of things I've discovered I needed! I am doing lots of John Lewis orders as we live in walking distance of a Waitrose and orders are delivered there next day. I've just ordered a rain cover for the car seat!

@AccrualIntentions hibernation sounds very sensible. I have to venture out for the school run but it's lovely and sunny here today although really cold.

LaBelleSausage · 28/11/2017 14:21

@butterybollocks, definitely don't have one of those!! Hurray for amazon prime.

We bought ours in an August bank holiday sale so I remember lots of clip on pram sunshades and other such paraphernalia but no raincovers, thank you

AGnu · 28/11/2017 14:21

I'm spending the day in bed or on the sofa. It's the first day since DD was born that I've had the chance to just sit still & I'm really feeling the need for it. She's 6do now & I still feel broken. Not sure at what point I should get concerned about it but I'm going to take it easy for a few days & see how I feel at the end of the week. I don't remember having so much pain in my pubic bone/lower back after having the others. I'm keeping myself dosed up on ibuprofen but it still really hurts to get out of bed/off the sofa. It's not too bad when I get moving, as long as I only move slowly!

Feeding is slightly easier now. I think a couple of days of mostly expressing gave me a chance to heal & the bottle has encouraged DD to open her mouth a bit more. The HV didn't think there was any issue with her latch/tongue & said to just carry on. I'm still rather bruised & my nipple is squashed after a feed so I'm not convinced there's no TT. I've not tried her on the side that was bleeding the most for a couple of days. The scab has come off now so I'm planning to give it a go at the next feed. Expressing has obviously been working for her though - she only dropped 2% of her birth weight by day 5. Much less than either DS! She's got a proper double chin - it's adorable! I've heard it said that babies either look like Winston Churchill or a monkey. DS1 was definitely a monkey, DS2 was somewhere between the 2 but DD is a definite Churchill baby! Grin

butterybollocks · 28/11/2017 14:31

@labellesausage baby is refusing to go in the lie-flat Pram bit but likes going in the car seat so we're putting that on the pushchair Base to do the school run, so we need a cover in case of rain . Also waiting for a delivery of a waterproof cover for the baby carrier. I had a summer baby last time so I wasn't prepared for bad weather!

@AGnu if you're worried about your recovery do give your midwife a call (here we have the number for delivery suite and can call them in the first few weeks).

AccrualIntentions · 28/11/2017 14:32

I've heard it said that babies either look like Winston Churchill or a monkey.
I haven't heard this before but DD is definitely a Winston, double chin and receding hairline and all Grin

Hazandduck · 28/11/2017 15:29

Oh @Agnu I’m sorry you’re suffering :( do you think you’ve maybe put something out? Or just badly bruised? I love the Churchill/monkey description haha, hmm can’t decide what Tilly is! I’m going monkey because she is hairy! Even her ears are covered in fluff lol x
