I thought that a new thread would be appropriate for those that wanted to chat,

Oh by the way my pc is working now, but I don't know how long the internet connection will stay up.

It's great to have you back MKG. You've been missed!

How are things with DH?

ShowOfHands · 06/04/2007 11:22

Good thinking MKG, I can't chat on that other thread, I can't even open it at the moment.

Hope things are improving with D(?)H.

I am still in housework mode, was still going at 9.30pm last night. Have done so much laundry- towels, bedding, throws from the sofa, our clothes, baby clothes, curtains etc. No fabric is safe. I also decided to defrost the freezer which DH found hilarious as I am incapable of chipping ice without being convinced that I am going to get it in my eye and end up blind. Cue me hacking at thick chunks of ice with a hairdryer in one hand, an ice pick thing in the other and my eyes firmly shut. I'm not blind although I have chipped a bit out of my hand. Finding housework quite difficult at the moment- getting on my hands and knees to clean ovens and toilets is much harder than it used to be. I've admitted defeat and bought some spray cleaner stuff- usually opt for hands and knees and elbow grease, but I just can't manage it. Still got lots to do today- going to take apart the waste disposal thing in the kitchen (we don't even use it- I'm losing the plot) and clean it and then I'm going to cut the hedges. I'm also going to speak the gardener at DH's work and see if I can borrow a big ladder to clean the outside of our windows. How hard is it to climb ladders when 34/35 weeks pregnant? Then I'm going to move all the furniture round in the sitting room. I tell you what, I slept soundly last night. This is a great insomnia cure. Complete exhaustion.

Must get on, cleaning to be done...

MKG · 06/04/2007 11:25

Things with Dh are better. He's calmer, I don't think that he understands what it's like to be 8 months pregnant and have help in the house or chasing after a 20 month old.

Hey Ds is 20 months today!

Anyway his sister yelled at him, and he's been better since.

OP posts:
InTheseShoes · 06/04/2007 11:26

SOH - I think that this is called "nesting"...

MKG · 06/04/2007 11:27

I've taken up knitting, which I really love. I don't know how much longer the internet will be up. I've realized how much time I wasted on it before, and ds doesn't really allow me the time to be on, but for today at least, I'm going to chat my brains out.

OP posts:
MKG · 06/04/2007 11:29

I've been nesting. Absolutely everything is ready for this baby. I've washed clothes, put bags together, made lists, emergency numbers, made my birth announcements, and done a million other things. I've organized and reorganized the house.

I'm making my labor CD right now as I chat.

OP posts:
twelveyeargap · 06/04/2007 11:32

Definitely nesting SOH!

MKG - sometimes their own family saying something makes all the difference. My DH would listen to his mother and sister over something like that. I think it's something to do with the men thinking their families are on "their side" so it's a bit of a shock when their family agrees with you! Good for you anyway. Glad things are looking up.

DH was out last night and our barbecue for 4 guests on Sunday has now turned into a party for about 14... Thankfully he's suggested people come at about 1. Happy to give a party so long as I can still go to bed at 10. We have all day tomorrow to prepare/ marinade/ pre-cook, so that helps a lot.

Right, got to get ready for mass. If I can't make the effort on Good Friday and Easter Sunday then I might as well excommunicate myself.

MKG · 06/04/2007 11:37

I'm jealous of you Easte festivities.

My family is doing nothing, my inlaws are doing nothing, so I'm making a ham for dh and I. You are all more than welcome to come to my house for festivities.

I can't wait for ham!

OP posts:
twelveyeargap · 06/04/2007 11:43

Ooooh, ham. That's a great idea. I could try out the Nigella ham in coca-cola recipe and serve it cold with salad...

MKG · 06/04/2007 11:47

Ham is expensive here, but I love it and it will feed us for a week! sandwhiches, pea soup, mac and cheese, sandwhiches for lunch. MMMMM!! It's great to be pregnant during holidays.

Pinkjenny · 06/04/2007 13:27

Just about to go out to some relatives for Good Friday salmon.

Just a quick note, remind me never to go for dinner again with friend who is 6 weeks behind me. She has the tiniest little bump and looks fab. I, on the other hand, looked and felt like a whale.

She picked at melon balls to start and then had a STARTER SIZED (!) portion of pasta. I had mozzarella in breadcrumbs and a normal portion of pasta.

And I've just had a flake.

Happy Good Friday! No more babies, please.

scootermum · 06/04/2007 15:43

ShowOfHands · 06/04/2007 15:46

[Zzzzzzzzzzz]

I am so tired. For some reason I got it into my head that I needed to clean all of the ceilings. Why? Why would I need to clean a ceiling? Still, now I've done 3 rooms I have to do the final 8 or the house won't be balanced .

Somebody please tell me that this baby doesn't care if I scrub the garage floor. They're going to come and take me away at this rate.

Oh and I am adamant that I am not nesting. I always get like this when I'm on holiday from work. Every room in my house smells of lemon or pine, it's quite vile. And I found myself dusting all of the lightbulbs this morning. Okay, maybe I'm nesting a little bit but it's entirely necessary.

Actually, a proper question- does anybody have any strong feelings about syntometrine? Midwife wants to know if I want it and I can't decide. I don't like the idea of any interference but did any of you not have it and really regret it? I always assumed I'd just opt for a physiological third stage but I know they like to manage third stages at home.

Oh and when I've given birth how long before my nose is no longer blocked up? Blooming annoying.

Your nose will unblock as you are pushing Mathilda out-its enough to make anyones nose run!

Really going now-everyones got their shoes on waiting..

ShowOfHands · 06/04/2007 15:49

I've had a bowl of soup and two slices of toast today.

Never had an easter egg! My parents are atheist.

I'm going to make strawberry and banana milkshake I think, got fruit that needs using. I do have some hot cross buns somewhere...

Mrsjaffabiffa · 06/04/2007 16:00

Hi all.....

hey MKG, It's great that you are on line again & I'm glad h nearly has he d status back. Good idea to start a new thread. I feel like you SOH.

SOH, I am probaby going to be the only one to say this, & you won't take a blind bit of notice either but NO, NO, NO climbing ladders to clean windows at 35 weeks pregnant!!! Do you fancy a week here SOH, I am not in nesting or spring cleaning mode at all and the house shows it. How's the coccyx btw?

Had a busy day today though, took M to a new toddler group, it was quite sweet but a long way a way. Only 8? for a years subscription per family so I don't think it will break the bank if we only go a few times a year. She enjoyed it and I suppose thats what it is all about. Did a food shop on the way home and now my feet and bump ache. Dh has work!!!! 4 weeks replacing loft floor boards for someone. Yey hey!

Miniapple is sitting on a nerve, crotch zingers are not a stong enough word to describe the pain. I am trying to think of something much stronger to call them.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 06/04/2007 16:05

You mean you've had a hot cross bun but No easter eggs SOH.

I personally would say have the jab for the 3rd stage. It's not interference by then you've done the hard bit, and I don't even know when they gave it to me after h&m but I did have it. Infact the whole 3rd stage happens soooooo quickly with the jab you haven't even finished looking at your new bundles face and it's all over and done with down there.

AbbyLou · 06/04/2007 16:22

Hello everyone, thanks MKG for starting another thread. We've had a lovely afternoon despite dh being at work. I met up with some NCT antenatal friends from last time and all our little ones at Calke Abbey near where I live. We had a picnic and then the little ones did a Peter Rabbit Easter trail which involved a bag of eggs at the end. We all had a really lovely time in the sunshine, it's nice to have such a good group of friends who all have children the same age as mine. Two have had their 2nd last year and three more of us are due within the next 11 weeks so our group is swelling.

Augustbride · 06/04/2007 17:15

Hi I am hijacking (right word?) this thread a bit as I am more of a regular on the due Aug thread.
Abbylou - I too was at Calke Abbey today and saw lots of people (Kids and adults) doing the Easter egg hunt.
I couldn't believe how competitive it was and how seriously some people were taking it
Looking forward to joining in with our DS in a few years time.

scootermum · 06/04/2007 18:04

I thought you said 'cake abbey' at first..I thought thats the kind of place I want to go!

Back from walk now.DD teething so she is not enjoying her little self today-she was very good yesterday though-we went to Advenutre Castle which is a sort of soft play centre with our NCT antenatal class friends, (you are right about that Abby-its so nice to have friends with kids the same age-especially for me as none of my existing mates have babies or are even married/shacked up yet).I was up and down the scramble net and the slide with her..felt a wee bit tired by the end..On the way home to parents last night DH and I had a huge arguement, (much of which I must admit was down to me being pregnant and unreasonable and crabby because Id had to pack everything and sort the house out before leaving et al), and I ended up in total agony with Braxton Hicks again all the way from Grantham to Chesterfield..Serves me right I suppose for messing about on a climbing frame and winding myself into a rage with DH.
Feel much better all round today anyway ...Not least as popped into Chesterfields new Primark and got myself two lovely pairs of pyjamas and some slippers for hospital..(do you say 'pairs' of pyjamas?)

Hows the new car TYG?I hope you have taken it for an inaugural spin around North London today..I know its sad but your friend will be back before you know it-my best mate has moved to Cape Town and I miss her loads..Dont think she is coming back at all though

I wish you would give over with the cleaning SOH..you are making me nervous...I have just walked past the house of your ex boyf by the way-lovely cherry tree on the front garden now..Congrats on the letter by the way--good news!

Thanks for starting the new thread MKG..Tell H no easter ham for him unless he bucks up some more-glad to hear he is making progree though

Have a lovely weekend Tam-hope the weather holds out..

Starter size portion Pinkjenny?I wouldnt speak to her till after the baby is here..I cant stop eating today..Though have just weighed self and found have only put 1 and a bit stone on-I dont see how this can be possible as I look bloody awful-Unless-omigod-I just looked quite bad before and didnt realise it!Or the scales are awry.

Mrs JB-Good o on the work front for DH.If he fancies a working hol sometime later in the year tell him, ive work enough to keep him occupied for months-when we hopefully move into our new house, currently a palace of glittering 70's decor delights!

Hope you are having a nice quiet time with N gandt..Only a few more days to go till your brood are back if you are missing them..

sorry if I missed anyone off..

Am going to settle down into doing some homework later tonight-got to really after driving all the way into Westminster yesterday to pick up my forgotten file.Am aiming on doing 2 units this weekend..neice and nephew and my somewhat crazy sister arrive tomorrow though so will have to motor on it tonight if im to have any chance at all..

twelveyeargap · 06/04/2007 18:13

Am sitting here nervously thinking about driving up the road to get a DVD. Seriously, where am I going to park the feckin thing? It's about a meter longer than my other car. Whatamuppet.

I say a pair or set of pyjamas... fwiw.

Fair dues to you getting up on the climbing frame. I was out "watching" DH do the gardening earlier and I couldn't get off my fat lazy a'se to do ANYTHING. I said a bush needed pruning and he handed me a secateurs and I was disgusted. Looked at him like he was mad and sort of huffed and puffed over to said bush and snipped away looking thunderous. I think I'm just in a bad mood.

Feel very sad. Said mate going to Australia is likely to be there for the full 4 years of their visa and they're going to try to go to China or Japan to live after that. DH's cousin in Melbourne is getting married just before next Easter so we'll tie in a trip to Sydney at the same time.

Ah, I'll get over it. I'm just in a yoomer (humour) as we say back home.

I'll have another Fox's Classic biscuit and see if I can lighten up. Strictly in the metaphorical sense of course...

twelveyeargap · 06/04/2007 18:15

Metre/ meter. Obviously tired as well.

aprilmeadow · 06/04/2007 18:29

SOH - stop with all the cleaning!! I do bits and bobs when i can be bothered (mil does our cleaning coz i am too lazy and slob like).

Took J to arts and crafts this morning and we made an easter plate and a bunny hat (made daddy wear that!). Cost nearly six quid mind for about an hour. So i made sure that we made as many things as we could and then scoffed some biccies to make sure i had got a good deal

Popped into town this afternoon as my sister has taken my little man out, and managed to get Raspberry Leaf tablets - think i can take these next week - some arnica tablets, and some lavender oil for the baths afterwards. I also got all the missing items required for my hospital bag and then packed it all up in my little suitcase. Quite surprised as it all seemed to fit with room to spare. IIRC i had the biggest bag in the world last time and even that was crammed to bursting. This time i have only packed as if i were staying for 1 day/night. I really only want to be in for the min of 6hrs but i guess it depends on when she makes her appearance. If i need to be in any longer than that then dh can just get the extra bits and bobs. After all how hard can it be for him to pack some extra clothes......... All i need now is to get the snacky essentials like cartons of drink, crisps etc so that dh and my mum dont starve if its a long one. Although i did notice that Frimley Park Hosp had opened a nice sandwich shop so if i have her during the day they will be able to get nice nibbles.

Also got the moses basket & stand ready and also the changing mat. Only downer is that where the mat had been in the loft/garage the edging had gone mouldy, so i will have to trot off and get a new one. Did try soaking it and scrubbing it but it wouldnt shift.

Have set myself a little task list to complete in the next few weeks:

  • get the last of the boxes out of our room - either bin the stuff or put in garage
  • sort through some of the boxes in garage that havent even been looked at and do the same as above
  • get ds room all tidy and shelves up (with the help of dh of course)

Not much but all things that i have been putting off

Mrsjaffabiffa · 06/04/2007 18:31

TYG, I forgot to say the other day.

FWIW, I know your friend will miss you just as much. I ache for my friends in the UK sometimes, it brings a lump to my throat thinking about it. We love our life here but I wish I could bring all my friends here too.
Another reason why it's so nice to have you lovely ladies.
