Hey ladies
I'm due on October 21st.
Got my next midwife appointment coming up. It's the 28week check up but due to me being away and my midwife being away I will actually be 30 weeks.
What shall I expect from this appointment?
I don't want to miss anything!

Bobbiepin · 05/08/2017 22:29

Hi everyone, I'm 28 weeks, due on the 26th October. Baby timed it really well as DSil is getting married the week before! Really hoping she's not early! I'll stick my information on the sheet, great idea that.

mrsbumblebees · 05/08/2017 22:37

Hi both Smile

28 week appointment for me included BP, urine, blood test, bump measurement and a quick chat about movements, antenatal classes, any concerns etc...

Fingers crossed your little one isn't early Bobbiepin! We are supposed to be going to a wedding a month after baby is due and it's one I really don't want to miss, but might have to play it by ear when then time comes!!

amypanth · 06/08/2017 08:43

Thank you @mrsbumblebees.
Also another question, has anyone had a recent cold? I have had one for nearly 2 weeks. I don't know if it's pregnancy related or I actually have a cold. Blocked nose, ears and a cough. I'm proving to be a nightmare at night as of my tossing and turning and my cold. How attractive huh?

GimbleInTheWabe · 06/08/2017 09:39

@amypanth I'm sniffling away as I type Envy luckily it's not the worst cold I've ever had but still pretty miserable. If you've had yours for over 2 weeks though I'd suggest getting down to the doctors to make sure it's not anything else. Although I did read that apparently your nose is generally stuffier whilst pregnant so could just be a side effect?

I've managed to avoid colds so far (now I've jinxed it!) but I have had popping ears for the whole pregnancy, with an intermittently drippy nose - lush!!

Sorry to hear you have been suffering -
perhaps mention it at your next appointment in case they can give you anything to help!

amypanth · 06/08/2017 10:40

@GimbleInTheWabe I think I will mention it at my next appt.
I flew last week and went on holiday so I don't think the flying helped with the blocked ears.
It's just annoying cause I can't take anything for it.

Thissameearth · 06/08/2017 13:56

Hi everyone I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my first.

My 28 week appt was urine, BP, baby's heartbeat and uterus measurement as usual then bonus blood test for anaemia. MW said she would phone only if anaemia and was two weeks ago and haven't heard so presume all is well. I know there aren't resources to call everyone either way but I like a definitive answer rather than did she forget?

Can someone tell me what pram to buy?! Am leaning towards iCandy orange as although stupidly expensive at just under £900 it seems to be pretty good and "future proofed" (converts to double, has inbuilt toddler board thing and takes up to 25kg). Although don't know for sure we can cope with 1 let alone 2 and I am mentally anxious with this pregnancy Confused so requirement for this future proofing may be moot.

KitKatSplat · 06/08/2017 14:53

Hi @Thissameearth, I bought the city jogger mini gt, simply because it came out number 1 from Which? consumer testing. Safe, easy to manage, stable etc. No messing. No idea if it can be adapted for two babies as I am only going to have one (no matter what my husband thinks! Grin)

Thissameearth · 06/08/2017 15:18

Thanks kitkat I looked at that too and had heard good things about it from friends. I'm not sure which spurious ground I rejected it on - I think combo that it was reviewed by which back in 2012 (overthinking!) and that I'm out in muddy off road walk territory so wasn't sure if a lightweight one will do me but I know the review says it's town and country. Does it have a carrycot? Can only see it with seat.

GimbleInTheWabe · 06/08/2017 16:08

@Thissameearth we've bought the bugaboo bee 5. Supposed to be brill for city living and v easy to fold up and super light (good for me as I'll be carrying it up a flight of stairs every day!). Don't think it's that suitable for country living though. We got it at a mates rate but full price I think it's about the same as the icandy. Bugaboos really hold their value apparently.

GimbleInTheWabe · 06/08/2017 16:10

Oh also @Thissameearth at my 31w mw appt the midwife did briefly go through my blood results (pretty much just to say it was normal) so they weren't forgotten about. Mine never arrived in the post for some reason but she'd printed them out.

Hi all, just wondering if anyone's had their 31 week appointment and did midwife check position? I know they'll normally move loads between now and due date, but I'm just curious as ds was breech from about 30 weeks and my current uneducated guess is that this one is transverse!

Thissameearth · 06/08/2017 17:18

My midwife checked at 28 weeks tippetytap so imagine they def will at 31 if didn't? (she didn't mention it but I saw on notes she'd written cephalic in the field that's been blank since now)

KitKatSplat · 06/08/2017 18:16

@Thissameearth yes, it does come with a carrycot, but you have to purchase it separately.

PingusMistress · 06/08/2017 22:25

My sympathies go to those of you with colds. DD came home with a slight sniffle three weeks ago, I caught it and it totally floored me, it was the worst cold I've had in years.

I still need to buy a second hand pram that will fit in a tiny car boot, I really need to do some research! Quite impressed that so many of you are already organised in the pram department Smile

Cath1212 · 07/08/2017 09:39

Just come back from a lovely relaxing week away, great to catch up on the thread and all the great advice

we went for the uppa baby vista - we have friends who have the same and have really liked it, and it is pretty sturdy for walking etc on unmade paths - which was important for us!

TippetyTapWriter at my 28 week midwife appointment she said she thinks they are currently transverse - plenty of time to move. I think they are still the same as only having kicks low down and can practically see his bum poking out the side!!

TippetyTapWriter · 07/08/2017 12:05

Thanks thissameearth and cath. I checked my notes and she's just crossed through the position box for 28 weeks. Got my 31 weeks appointment on Thursday so I'll ask then. I know they're likely to move, I'm just curious really and want to be able to decipher the movements I'm feeling. And because ds was breech I'm obviously quite interested in position as I can't have my vbac if this one doesn't go head down and I've spent months deciding and psyching myself up for it!

Cath1212 · 07/08/2017 13:47

Ah I see, I can totally understand you wanting to find out
You should def ask at your 31 weeks. My midwife I think only mentioned it as my bump was measuring a little small!

Bobbiepin · 07/08/2017 17:41

Midwife told me baby is quite big right now but didn't mention anything about position at my 28 week appointment. Surely they can move around a lot in the next 12 weeks?

doomkittycleo · 07/08/2017 19:02

Is anyone else feeling a bit down atm? I'm 30 weeks today and just feel really teary and fed up.

I'm starting to get annoyed at the baby as it's movements are now stopping me from sleeping.

I'm due to finish work 5 weeks on Thursday and between worrying I'll be bored when I finish and being tired and annoyed at my colleagues (feeling judged for winding my workload down), I don't know what to do with myself.

I'm trying to preserve the pennies as I have a few things to pay off before finishing work, but that means that I'm staying at home a lot (getting cabin fever), but when I went for a walk with DP on Saturday, I was exhausted after 5 minutes and had to rest.

Then go back to going to bed and not sleeping and the cycle of being down in the dumps begins again.

I'm sorry if this is a negative post, but just want to know if anyone else feels the same.

ButterflyGem · 07/08/2017 19:15

@doomkittycleo I finish work 25th August & it can't coke quick enough. I work 8-30 - 5 so the days seem long & I'm getting tired now I also have 45 min drive so I'm starting to struggle. Also not sleeping well due to baby movements although I'm grateful for this as at least I know ok. Last night I had really bad indigestion. I've never had it before being pregnant which is lucky I know. My husband suffers really bad from acid reflux & I never give him sympathy but now I realise how awful it must be lol. I'm just gonna take a load of gaviscon.
I've also been very lucky with no morning sickness or many aches/pains so don't want to complain. My hips are starting to hurt only really in bed though when tossing from one side to another.
It's exciting now we're near the end but also panicking a little about the financial side of things - we won't be entitled to any kind of benefits as will likely just fall above the wage brackets. I'm used to spending freely so will have to learn to cut back 😀 xx

Bobbiepin · 07/08/2017 19:31

@doomkitty there's another thread about being miserable in pregnancy. I'll try and find you the name, you are not alone!

Bobbiepin · 07/08/2017 19:32

30 weeks and so miserable

Not sure how to link to it but hopefully you can find it.

Thissameearth · 07/08/2017 19:40

Yup doom I'm just over 30 weeks and feeling down and no energy to do anything but then feel rubbish because not doing anything except going to work/shops for food and (trying) to buy baby stuff. Anxious too. Even eating is a bit of a chore.
