That is very confusing advice. Im not sure why you wouldn't express if you could? I had a tough time for a couple of days after the birth until my milk came in properly so getting things flowing seems a good thing to me? Perhaps it is because they don't recommend using bottles until baby is used to the breast first.

Everything was okay at my growth scan, confirmed it is a boy (thankfully after I have bought lots of boy clothes!) and he is on the small side despite my feeling huge, but not so small that they are worried. Two more scans to go.

And it's not even free delivery!

mummabubs · 03/08/2017 15:54

Ouch that's a lot!!! 😱 I had the midwife I saw at my booking appointment tell me I definitely needed the test for gestational diabetes due to my grandmother having type 2 diabetes in later life Hmm so when I got to 29 weeks and still hadn't had the test I asked my midwife (who I've had from appointment 2 onwards) why I hadn't had it and she was really surprised I'd been told I needed it at all?! Could have saved me some stress of knowing sooner... not that I avoided sugar before that or anything- massive sweet tooth since becoming pregnant! 🙈

feelingblue123 · 03/08/2017 15:56

I had the diabetes test. It was horrendous.

mummabubs · 03/08/2017 19:11

Bless you @feelingblue123, not going to lie- when my usual midwife said she saw no reason for me to have it I was very happy... not wild on having blood taken and I'm still throwing up bile most mornings and that's with a full stomach, God only knows what I'd have been like on empty! Hope you've recovered from yours xx

feelingblue123 · 03/08/2017 19:25

The blood and stuff no drama - I give blood regularly anyway. It was the two hour wait, feeling really drained and sick, on a very uncomfortable chairs in the waiting room. You go kinda delerious and long for the minutes to go faster. I sat in the car and munched my way thru Lucozade and snickers and babybel just to feel human enough to drive. Spent the afternoon in bed. Total waste of a day as it came back negative Angry.

GimbleInTheWabe · 04/08/2017 16:56

Ahhh! After not being ill once during this pregnancy I am starting to feel a cold coming on.
I have had a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and DP made me a disgusting really healthy smoothie with lemons and ginger and spinach and other garb in. Does anyone else have any cold prevention methods I should employ? Really don't want to get ill now!

OP posts:
mummabubs · 04/08/2017 19:55

Oh no Gimble! I had a mingling cold at 10 weeks and I just ended up chugging lemon and honey and generally having a self-pity party! Hope yours doesn't develop and goes away x

KitKatSplat · 04/08/2017 20:21

Rotten day today. Woke up with bad pelvic pain. Went and had a massage, which I think helped, but was extremely painful. Think it just tipped me over the edge and I started crying at work! Had to lock myself in a meeting room to calm down. Went home early and just felt exhausted for the rest of the day. Plus I'm worrying because my parents are coming to visit next week and I think I'll have to sleep on an air mattress because it's too low down on the floor for them. Worried it's going to make my hip pain worse :(

Just needed a rant...

GimbleInTheWabe · 04/08/2017 20:50

@KitKatSplat sorry to hear you've had a day of it. Seriously I have so much respect for all of you who are travelling in and working all day, I feel like such a princess being able to work from home and swan about. An air bed does not sound great though, could it be worth staying at a friends for the night or something?

I've already bought a sleepyhead and as midwives have such conflicting opinions, I think this is just another one. I'm sure it would be highly publicised if there had been any cot deaths while using it. All I've seen are glowing reviews for them.
As it's taken me 8 years to have another baby after the first non- sleeper was so horrendous, I'm willing to give it a go. It's not like normal pillows, it's made of breathable material so if their face goes up against it they can still breathe.
There was lots of publicity about the NCT bed nest that wasn't safe but not heard anything negative about the sleepyhead.

Hi everyone, just found this group and thought I'd say hi. I'm from London and due 5th Oct.

This is very very strange but @GimbleInTheWabe I was in the same antenatal class as you! The giveaway was your post about the man who brought ice and milk with him. I had to stop myself from laughing too but my DH didn't manage to contain his laughter. Were you the one with the partner sitting by the telly? I was with my partner who was frantically scribbling everything down. I thought the second session was a lot better and I'm actually feeling more excited than nervous about the whole thing now. I hope your cold is better and I might see you in October when we battle to get a room in the MLU Smile

boxesoffrogs · 05/08/2017 11:13

Morning all, just checking back in. Back from wedding (which was ace, although very rainy, and at the sake of sounding like a lush, my first ever totally sober wedding! Really enjoyed it).
Still trying to get hold of midwife to try and organise this stupid catch up 28 week appointment (29 weeks tomorrow!), but phone either just rang out or wouldn't connect. Even sent an email but no reply. How on earth do people contact them in an emergency?? Going to try again first thing Monday morning, might just have to go down there in person, which is a pain. Going away again on weds until the following Sunday, so only got a very short window to have this check up.
How bad would it be if I didn't manage to make the appointment?? Got my 32 week one organised and sorted? Obviously I don't want to miss any but it really is getting to be a bit of a joke. Plus at the wedding, one of the girls there is due the day before me, and her bump is nearly twice the size of mine, so desperate for some reassurance...

GimbleInTheWabe · 05/08/2017 14:06

No way!! Hello @ngc6751! Yes that was me and DP by the tv. Or as DP described me- the goody two shoes of the class because I kept putting my hand up, isn't he lovely..Hmm I was kind of sad that ice man didn't return that week, glad the chatty dads were absent though! And yeah I agree that class was so much better than the previous one, the mw seemed much more relaxed too. And for the record I was very impressed with your DHs note taking and how seriously he took the hand expressing bit. He held that knitted boob like a pro whilst my DP def wanted it as far away from him as possible haha.

OP posts:
ngc6751 · 05/08/2017 15:44

@GimbleInTheWabe hahaha! He definitely held his knitted boob for a bit too long. We both have no idea what we're doing so had to absorb every second of that session. You asked all the questions I wanted to know the answer to, and thanks for asking about the Sleepyhead and saving us £££!

GimbleInTheWabe · 05/08/2017 19:45

@ngc6751 have you been to the waterbirth talk yet? I'm hopefully going to go to the next one (tues 15th I think?) so maybe see you there? We're also a bit new to all this baby stuff, our little boy-to-be was a bit of a surprise!

@boxesoffrogs I'd definitely keep chasing up your appointment, especially if you need a bit of reassurance. If you're anything like me it will just play on your mind. Glad you had fun at the wedding!

Did anyone else get a call from their midwife after their blood test at 28 weeks? My midwife took my blood and said she would call the following day with the results - she mainly just mentioned iron levels and said if my iron was low she would sort me out with some tablets (I can't remember what else they test for at 28 weeks?).

I've only just remembered (over a week later!) that she never called! I'm not overly concerned as I assume that if there was a problem she would actually have called, and I've no reason to think my iron is low or anything, but thought it was a bit odd as she made a point of taking my mobile number and writing it in her diary! I have another appointment this week with a different midwife so will ask about results then, but just wondered what the usual procedure was - did anyone else get a call?

Cineraria · 05/08/2017 21:14

Ours call if you need iron tablets but don't if you don't. However, we also get a results sheet from the testing centre sent to us directly for our notes. Last time I was fairly low (my food aversion was basically anything with iron in it!) and got a call to arrange a supplement. This time my results sheet indicates that I'm just below the ok range and I haven't had a call, so maybe they'll just discuss it at the next appointment.

mummabubs · 05/08/2017 21:15

Mine took my bloods and I'm seeing her this week coming for my 31 week app but I haven't heard anything from her so assume she'll just tell me then? She already has my mobile number though and didn't say she'd call so not sure what's normal? Sorry I can't be more helpful @mrsbumblebees! (On a side note I'm going to Mothercare tomorrow to one of their events just to order the Tutti Bambini Cozee and seriously hope their ordering system has picked up! Have you got yours yet?) xx

PingusMistress · 05/08/2017 21:17

@mrsbumblebees I had my 28 week appointment yesterday and the midwife said they only call if there is a concern with the blood results.

@boxesoffrogs I think you should keep chasing even if just to get bloods done (iron levels and antibodies I was told), apparently this is the last time they do it so best to make sure everything is okay. If it isn't done until your next appointment it probably isn't the end of the world though.

mrsbumblebees · 05/08/2017 21:20

Thanks both - am sure there is no cause for concern, otherwise I guess she would have called, just one of those weird things that suddenly popped into my head!

Yes mummabubs I have finally managed to get hold of my crib! Not put it up yet as we are painting the nursery soon but very excited that I actually managed to get one!! Let me know how you get on, perhaps placing the order in store rather than online will be more successful!

doomkittycleo · 05/08/2017 21:25

@MrsBumbles mine just told me to ring my GP to ask for if the results were ok, which I did and the GP receptionist just told me they wet fine.

mrsbumblebees · 05/08/2017 21:32

Thanks doomkitty - everywhere seems to do things differently! I will follow up when I have my appointment this week, got an extra appointment at 30 weeks as waiting to see if they are going to send me for another scan as bump still measuring small, trying not to worry too much as baby was fine at last growth scan (24 weeks) and bump had grown 4cm by the next appointment at 28 weeks.
