Due February 2016 - first timers

Hello. I thought I'd start this discussion as the other Feb 16 discussion has morphed into stories of people's previous child birth experiences, and I thought a place for first timers could be useful.

I'm 6+3, due on 19 Feb. my morning sickness started with a bang 2 days ago! Felt like I had a terrible hangover; strong headache; just needed sleep. Was worried about taking paracetamol so bought some travel sickness bands, which seem to be doing the trick (even if I look like a tennis star).

Anybody else discovered any good remedies??

Hello can I join you? I see a few familiar ladies! I'm 9+1 and feeling dreadful with ms. Currently sitting in dr waiting room... Wanted to avoid medication but I'm really struggling. Barely getting through each day, which sounds so dramatic!

madsaz76 · 24/07/2015 19:12

Thanks iris. I have started to feel a bit better last couple of days, and entering my 12th week with scans on the horizon has perked me up loads.

Maybe I won't be so miserable :)

Strawberryshortcake1976 · 24/07/2015 23:39

Just found this thread- I'm a first timer too, due February 4th...Really nice to meet you all, and hi to Pink, Madsaz and Brummie, I'm 39 too!

It's all so new! Didn't expect to feel this sick Shock and tired- I've found it especially tough to keep working, not wanting to tell anyone yet but think it's pretty obvious as I'm eating so much! Hey ho.

Looking forward to scan next week- midwife was on annual leave this week so missed my appointment Hmm which was a bit tough- the nausea has been getting me down. Let's hope it settles soon for all of us!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 25/07/2015 08:23

Hi everyone,

Just found this thread after spending time on the other one - recognise some of you from there Smile

I'm a first timer too and will be 37 when baby arrives so it's nice to see some other people in a similar position.

monkerina · 25/07/2015 13:51

Oh yay first timers! I'm on the main Feb thread too. 9+6 today, looking forward to feeling more confident...

madsaz76 · 25/07/2015 14:46

Great to find others who sound a lot like me. I don't know how much interacting I will do. This week is all about being simultaneously excited and terrified about the scan.

On the plus side DH has taken to mothering me. This afternoon he ran me a bath then brought snacks in! There's no way he can keep this up til February but I am enjoying it Grin

KatyButton · 25/07/2015 20:57

Hi ladies, I hope I can sneak in here even though my due date was revised to 31st Jan yesterday!
Had my 12 week scan yesterday and have been so convinced it was all going to go wrong that I've not allowed myself (or poor husband) to get excited til now! After a great scan we've told everyone now but it still seems strange that people know...
Oh and I'm 12w6d today
x

Hi,

Due in Feb as well - Feb 29th. Equally excited and trying not to get carried away too soon. This is my 3rd pregnancy but furthest along I have got so far.

I work abroad so good to use this for advice and quick info stop for all sorts of stuff. Also using it as a surrogate support network cause not surrounded by family and my closest friends so reading on here about people at the same stages as myself and discussing the same issues is really reassuring.

J

madsaz76 · 26/07/2015 18:19

Welcome jen and others

I'm risking a foray into the main thread again since the new one has started. Wish me luck Smile

monkerina · 26/07/2015 19:03

Saz, that sounds fab- can you send him round here to educate my DH? I haven't even managed to get him to clean the bathroom yet, despite many many hints, let alone do anything nice!

Jen, I'm in a similar boat- 3rd pregnancy, first time I've successfully got this far, trying (and failing) not to get too excited. It helps that other people here understand Smile And fab to have a leap baby!

Congrats on the scan Katy Smile

madsaz76 · 28/07/2015 16:25

so I have done either a brave or daft thing today!

Booked a private Nuchal scan as my local NHS is failing to fill me with confidence and I am week 12. Still haven't booked etc.

So I went for my blood test today - scan is Friday. The place was lovely and the ultrasonographer offered me a quick look at baby. I haven't seen baby yet & have been desperately fighting the urge to seek scans etc!

However DH wasn't with me (actively avoiding watching me have a blood test as he's a soft lad) so I said no. I caught myself gazing longingly at the ultrasound as I left.

So, I am proud of my self control while simultaneously regretting not sneaking a peak. Not even sure DH that bothered when I told him. Wish I had looked Confused

Strawberries76 · 28/07/2015 18:28

Madsaz well done for your self control! Not many days to wait now...I've got scan on Thursday- really hoping DH will be there, but he's got to go to another appointment beforehand. Not ideal but can't be changed...think he should still make it though. All the best for yoursSmile

Stepawayfromthezebras · 28/07/2015 19:36

Amazing self control! mads

strawberries I have my scan on Thursday too - eek Smile

All the best everyone with scans coming up

primarynoodle · 28/07/2015 20:25

hope you dont mind if i dip into this thread too everyone! im 11 weeks exactly today...

i love the main thread for some of the experiences of the already-mums as its preparing me a bit but i also feel very overwhelmed so it would be nice to chat to other people who feel a bit "shit-scared" by the idea of being pregnant and eventually being a mum too Grin

amazing self restraint not to have had that ultrasound!Shock i couldnt have said no!!!

monkerina · 29/07/2015 10:56

Saz your self control is amazing!

Can't wait for 12 week scan- not got a letter yet at 10+3, practically hopping up and down with impatience...

madsaz76 · 29/07/2015 22:16

I paid because I was struggling to get a booking appointment. I get to book on monday now but would be 12 + 4 and who knows when they would offer a scan.

2 more sleeps :)

Jen2104 · 30/07/2015 08:54

Impressive self control indeed! Not sure I could have held out!

I had a scan just after week 6 as I had some bleeding - kind of weird as we could hear the heart beat, but the doc had to literally draw a circle round the baby for us to be able to see it clearly! I really can't wait for 12 week scan!!

I've got bloods next week and then scan the week after. For the tests I've got some research to do cause I'm not sure what is offered as standard in France and I work out here. So that's the project for this week! If anyone knows this already, that would be lovely!!

ChloeMumsnet · 30/07/2015 09:43

Due February 2016 - first timers
monkerina · 01/08/2015 10:03

Awww lovely Saz! Congrats Smile

Spanoo · 01/08/2015 12:06

Congrats madsaz! I love how we can see all the little facial features already.

My scan is on Tuesday - I can't wait as I really want to now what's going on in there...

There has been quite a bit of upsetting news on the main thread recently - really sad for primary... so just hoping that everything is ok.

I had some terrible cramping this morning but then had diarrhoea so was probably that.

Hope all you ladies are keeping well. It's really funny hearing about how your DH/Ps are coping. Mine is great with all the practical stuff - cooking, cleaning, walking the dog - but emotionally he's pretty serious about the whole experience - he's coming to the scan so hopefully that will prod the softer spot in him.

Enjoy the weekend. xx

madsaz76 · 02/08/2015 10:43

Good luck for the scan Spanoo.

My DH has had an injection of reality courtesy of scan. Keeps going on about how clear the pic was and the fact bean was waving. He now has an unshakable conviction it's a boy. Woke me at 3pm yesterday to tell me a name idea.

I genuinely think he is hormonal and it is utterly weird.

Scan was amazing. Sonographer knew I was nervous so the minute she clapped eyes on me told me bloods looked low risk. So I was instantly calmer.

Still gasped when I saw the bean. Don't know what I thought was in there! Turns out a very full bladder makes for excellent pictures. ...

Spanoo · 04/08/2015 13:36

Scan went well today! The baby's size is measuring at just 9 weeks 5 days, which is what I suspected from my idea about the conception date. Saw a heart beating away and a brain - which you can see in the picture. But it's too little to examine the nuchal fold yet so I'm going back in 2 weeks for another scan.

It was so nice to see it wriggling away. At first I thought it was completely still - then it suddenly bounced and started waving it's limbs around.

Hope everyone is feeling well today!

Spanoo · 04/08/2015 13:37

Ooops forgot the pic!

Lovely scan photos peeps! Good to see them on here keep em coming! I've not been on since my first post but I have been reading and feel fairly up to date. Anyone else suffering still with ms? I'm now 10+5 and having the worst week yet! I heard week 10 is often the worse (no kidding) off work atm as just feeling horrendous all the time! Hoping to go back on thursday. Anyone passed the 12w mark and feeling better? Please give me hope!!!
