Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 09:32

Debz, yes I have a list of numbers, but I had a bit of a scare at 17 weeks and tried every number I had listed to get to speak to someone, and every single one either didn't work, was constantly engaged, or went straight to an answerphone, which didn't give an option of leaving a message, I ended up having to ring the main hospital switch board and asking to be put through to a midwife, and even then they put me through to the wrong place.

HC, my notes are pretty much up to date, when I had my diabetes test they took my blood pressure and (obviously as part of the test) checked my wee so that is all there in my notes.

I think I will leave it till I am 36 weeks, if anything did happen before then, then I am sure someone at the hospital could point us in the right direction!

NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 09:34

Debz I get what feels sort of like cramp in and around that area... it is probably just the baby laying on something or other. Is it what you thought might be a water infection?

Debz99 · 10/10/2006 09:38

NJ I wouldn't describe it as cramp, it's definately in the god I hate this word .... vagina area its just like a short sharp shock type pain and not the water infection I was raving on about last week ! Think that was just LO using my bladder as a cushion !

Debz99 · 10/10/2006 09:40

NJ - had reason to call the numbers on my notes and got an answer stright away, may be worth you asking the midwife when you go if the numbers are "up to date "

saralou100 · 10/10/2006 09:43

morning all!! well i had an exhausting weekend at my mums!! couldn't sleep at all on saturday night, was up every hour using the loo!! sunday we had a lovely meal at anthony worrel-thompsons restaurant (yummy amazing food, my tummy had capacity that day!) sunday night ds decided to get up at 3 am and did not go back to sleep until 7am...i was sooooooo tired last night that i collapsed into bed at 9 last night and got woken up by dp at 8.30... still knackered though!! anyway dp's gone off too croydon today to find out what his redundency payouts gonna be.. fingers crossed it's generous!!

welcome to the new people! more baby's to look forward too!!

nj - please go and see your madwife, just to reassure us lot!!

NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 09:44

The only time I get any sort of feeling down there is when I let DH get anywhere near me! (Which I am glad to report has been quite a bit in the last few weeks!! )

...ahem, anyway, ask if you can have a quick word with a midwife when you have finished your scan, as I say it could just be LO led somewhere funny.

NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 09:47

I did ask when I saw the midwife after 'the scare' if the numbers were right, she highlighted one of them for me and said to ring that one if I had any more problems, but highlighting it, doesn't make it work!!

Sara, fingers crossed for your DH

saralou100 · 10/10/2006 09:48

debz.. i had this pain with ds.. it's horrible isn't it! i think it was when the head was engaging i felt it (but don't quote me on that).. have'nt had it yet this time!!

is it wrong to eat spicy noodles for breakfast??

NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 09:50

LMAO, Personally, I couldn't think of anything worse than spicy noodles in the morning, but you are pregnant, have the noodles!!

saralou100 · 10/10/2006 09:54

i know, i'm strange... usually don't like spicy stuff, but lately i just can't get enough!! if it's got chilli in the title, i'll eat it!!

health visitor just phoned.. she's coming on thursday to give me red book!!

this is all getting a bit real now... i' gonna have a baby soon!!

Debz99 · 10/10/2006 09:55

Thanks Sarahlou its not extremely pain as I say but not comfy ! Spicy noodles for breakfast is fine ... knock yourself out LOL

Debz99 · 10/10/2006 09:56

midwife mentioned the red book at ante-natal classes, she said wither they (the midwives) or the health visitor will give it to us, not had anything yet !

NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 10:07

The HV gave us DS's red book after he was born. I don't know if it is the same everywhere, but the midwife came every day for the first 10 days and then the health visitor came after that, but I can't remember how many times or how often.

I don't know why they do it anyway, all DS's has ever been used for is charting his weight when he was small, and making a list of his imunisations. There is barely anything else that has been filled in.

saralou100 · 10/10/2006 10:18

i think every area is different with regards to the red book... it was nice with ds getting it early, we got a chance to meet her and find out stuff... now of course i realise how scary she is and want to keep away!!

noodles are delicious btw.. chicken and chilli flavour mmmmmmmmmmmmm

MeAndMyBoy · 10/10/2006 10:33

Sarahlou you are a sick women lol spicy noodles for breakfast!!!if that's what you fancy then I say go for it.

It's really nice reading so many other people are doing and feeling the same way - didn't have MN during my first pg and just bobbed along on my own - much prefer seeing what other people are up to and feeling it's fab.

Sarahlou I am with you on the spicy front - had curry for tea on Sunday and ate a huge amount, could have had it for tea again last night given half a chance and tea tonight is a sweet spicy casserole - yummy.

NJ - you really need to take it easy - I know you have a LO to look after already which makes it much more difficult but I think your body is trying to tell you something. I do think it would be worth you making anappointment to see the madwife, the next appointment is negotiable so you won't necessarily have to start going every couple of weeks now.

Debz the pain your feeling does it almost feel like scratching? my SIL (& MIL) had this and swore that her 2 were scratching the top of her cervix - I've had it a couple of times this time and boy is it uncomfortable. No idea what's causing it though.

I'm amazed at how often people are seeing their madwives - I'm 37 weeks on Thursday and this week is my first 2 weekly check, i think we'll probably squeeze one in during my due week but that will be it - I think in total I will have seen the madwife 9 times and the consultant twice, which actually is far more than I was led to believe would happen.

Bought myself some hospital jama's yesterday and some lovely soft woolly socks to wear - so my hospital bag is starting to get organised. I will be in for a few days cause I bled last time and the chances are I will this time although they are planning on managing it this time - don't think that will make much difference. Hopefully I won't end up in the same position as last time - an over night blood transfusion in both arms with blood pressure monitor going every half hour and trying to b/f my DS without having a clue what I was trying to do and couldn't actually reach to get him out of the crib cause the tubes weren't long enough. This hospital has said that they don't do overnight transfusions unless you are still on the labour ward and at least DH can stay over night with me there if needs be and look after the baby.

Right off to write a free facial and free weight loss competition for our business.

Take later
H x

Delia · 10/10/2006 10:39

Morning all
Welcome to the newbies.
Debz - good luck for the scan it's great to see the lo again! they scared me a bit last week though as they have written on my notes that they estimate lo to be aprox 7lb 3 already! - that pain down below, i've been getting it for a few weeks, my madwife said that it was the pelvis moving further apart as baby pushes further down and it was probably quite painful due to my hip and back problems - this could be the same for you with the spd.

Kaybee7777 · 10/10/2006 10:46

Morning everyone
What's this 'red book' ? This is the first I have heard of it...

Debz, I have been getting little shooting pains around my pelvic area, not sure if it's the same thing as what you are getting.

Whoever it was who had that HUGE list of things to take to hospital for labour $ baby etc can you please post it again as I am just starting to pack my bag and want to see what I need to take

Oh and did anyone see that program on the quads last night?? Poor wee things, a couple of them just looked soooooooo tiny.. There seem to be a lot of birth programs on at the moment, all very educational.

NatalieJane · 10/10/2006 10:53

(It was typed out to pass onto someone else so that is why there are extra notes all over it!)

For Mummy...

  • Maternity notes
  • Birth plan
  • Dressing gown (only a light weight one, labour wards are kept very warm)
  • Slippers
  • Socks
  • Nightshirt (to labour in)
  • Second nightshirt/pj's (for after the birth - front opening is easiest if you plan to BF)
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, tooth brush/paste, etc. also if you plan to use anything like nipple cream or femme pads)
  • Hair band
  • Lip balm
  • A watch (with a second hand for contractions)
  • Magazines, puzzler, books, mp3 player/stereo, anything to help you relax and pass the time!
  • Camera (don't forget extra memory/film, batteries)
  • Camcorder
  • Change for phone and parking
  • List of friends and family phone numbers
  • Nursing bras (if BF)
  • Flash or anti-bacterial wipes (for the shower/bath and anything else that seems mucky)
  • Cheap plastic flip flops (for use in the shower)
  • Hair brush
  • Drinks and snacks (for birthing partner as well!!)
  • Breast pads (whether you plan to BF or not)
  • Big knickers, the big belly warmers, the papery disposable kind are just awful!! Check out your local market for cheap big pants, and get the biggest size you can find!!)
  • Go to Boots or Mothercare - anywhere that does proper maternity pads, they are thicker and longer than normal sanitary towels, my midwife said to use two at once in the beginning and I still had to be careful with them then! Get about 5 packets at the ready, you will need to buy more, but that should see you through the first few days/week!
  • Dark coloured towel and flannel
  • Going home clothes (You will probably be about the size you were at 6 months when you come home, so maternity clothes will still be needed)
  • Bed mats, these aren't really for the bag, more for the car (and handy for in bed), if you look down the aisle in Tesco near the nappies, pampers have bed mats, meant for use as disposable changing mats, they are slightly quilted so will hold liquid, so if you line your mattress and car seat with them, if your waters should break then you won't be trying to clear up rather than concentrating on the labour!!

And for the baby...

  • A travel changing mat (or if you buy a changing bag with a mat on it, just take this)
  • Wipes and/or cotton wool - check with your hospital, some won't let you use wipes, some won't let you use cotton wool, when I had DS they wouldn't even let me bath him, so check what your hospital policy is.
  • Scratch mitts, most babies come out with long nails - the only reason I had to have stitches was because his nails scraped against me!
  • Hat
  • Socks or booties depending on what clothes you take in, obviously if you only take all in ones with feet in them, then you won't need socks!!
  • A good few bibs/muslin cloths, I'd say at least 6 - you can never have enough!!
  • Going home outfit - think carefully about this, it needs to be easy to fit the car seat straps around, and in November it will need to be warm!
  • Blanket (at least one for the trip home)
  • Take a full packet of nappies, you may be home in no more than a few hours after the birth, or due to the time of birth and doctors rounds etc. it could be closer to 36 hours, and new born babies (especially if BF) poo A LOT!!!
  • Nappy/barrier cream
  • Nappy sacks
  • You don't need anything more than sleep suits and all in one type clothes, I will take in 3 vests and 3 sleepsuits for whilst we are actually in hospital, but obviously if you want fully blown outfits then that is up to you!
  • Lastly I will be sneaking in some baby lotion this time, as I said, last time they wouldn't let me bath DS, and a two day old baby smelling of where it came from isn't very nice if you get my drift!! So even if I have to put some lotion on him when no one is looking, I will!!! LOL

Don't forget to put the car seat in the car, we actually put the carseat in the boot before I was any where near due last time, just in case!!! LOL Sounds silly now, but you never know when you will need it!!

I don't really know what you would do if you are planning to bottle feed, I guess you would have to ask the maternity unit if they have bottles and formula there, and if not take it in with you.

Also find out visiting times so you can pre-warn family and friends!

Here you go I am off into town now, in the pouring rain, catch you all later

the red book kaybee is lo's health record.. it's got loads of sections in it for recording weight and height and all their development checks and immunisations etc...

Bethbe · 10/10/2006 12:05

Hiya all,

Sorry - not posted for a while. Chat has been very interesting. Welcome to the newbies!

NJ: I want to live in your house! I freak if the washing-up hasn't been done in two weeks, - forget the bathroom!

Stacey: SWIMMING? I've heard of it in pregnancy, but quite honestly can't work out how I'm supposed to get the razor to all the necessary places to make myself acceptable at the local pool!

Welshgal: Sorry to hear about your first trimester, but relieved I wasn't the only one bedridden. How much sympathy did I not receive from the M/W? It was hell!

Saralou: Good luck to your DP

Bethbe · 10/10/2006 12:13

A quick heartburn question:

For those of you that have been prescribed ranitidine, what is the maximum daily dose you are to take?

Best wishes,

Bethbe

Kaybee7777 · 10/10/2006 12:14

Ah I see, thanks Saralou and thanks NJ for posting 'the list' again
