Incidentally there is no reason to get up and dressed for the midwife, they expect that you may well be in pyjamas!

eurochick · 26/03/2014 10:08

merk I was about to say that I bet midwives see a lot of new mothers in PJs, but kat has beaten me to it!

sinks I hope that you have a snuggly newborn by now. x

FrankelandFilly · 26/03/2014 10:16

Yup to the meeting the midwife in PJs Grin my nipple only hurts for the first 10/20 seconds (depending how full boob is), but I can definitely say that only 2 weeks in it is a lot easier than it was to start with. People keep saying the first 4-6 weeks are the hardest then everything turns a bit of a corner, so I'm clinging on to that for now.

Also the tears are totally normal. I sobbed the night we came home from the hospital and have had many a teary moment since, but I'm slowly getting more confident and starting to trust myself, so it does get better. I'm setting small goals at the moment - up, showered and dressed by mid-morning and try to get out of the house even for 5 minutes once a day. That's it, nothing more ambitious!

CatsCantFlyFast · 26/03/2014 10:21

Thank you for making me feel more normal

I've found these sites really helpful whilst stuck to the sofa:

www.breastfeedingbasics.com

www.kellymom.com

CatsCantFlyFast · 26/03/2014 14:24

Midwife has just been and said the latch is great so nipple pain may be from when I was getting it wrong days 1-2 and hopefully we are now improving. Also she has put weight on again so maybe we are managing

eurochick · 26/03/2014 14:30

Hurrah! Well done merk.

I don't think we ever got the full birth story, did we? Or don't you want to share.

FrankelandFilly · 26/03/2014 14:34

Sounds good Merks, I think I did the damage in the first few days too, unfortunately with all the cluster feeding there's not much chance to heal! I've been lent some breast shells which will hopefully take some pressure off and allow the air to get at them - when I tried sleeping topless to air them last week I leaked EVERYWHERE Blush had to change the bed sheets! pillowcases and E's outfit Blush

Say congrats to Sinks for me on t'other place
Euro I pretty much had the sneeze birth, waters at 12.10, went in for monitoring, was having contractions but I couldn't feel them. Came home and contractions started, immediately coming every 30 or 40 seconds but only lasting 30 or 40 seconds too. Put tens on and took 2 paracetamol at 3am. VVTM called the MLU at 6 despite my contractions not lasting a minute as without breaks between them I was really struggling. They told us to go in. Went in but couldn't monitor baby (or get my pulse or BP) as the contractions were so close together and I was stomping around singing Xmas carols. On examination was 7cm so leapt in the pool. Tried gas and air but puked violently (was sick every 30 mins throughout actually) so gave up on that. I was reluctant to take the tens off but the pain relief in the pool was unbelievable. Started pushing 15 mins later. Was a bit reluctant to push (fear of tearing) so it took a bit longer than it could have but once I got on with it she was out pretty fast. The ring of fire wasn't even painful. Midwives were unbelievable as I was panicky and not coping too well when we got in. I know I was v lucky

CatsCantFlyFast · 26/03/2014 16:21

12.10 meaning 00.10. Was 9 hours from waters to laying, 7 hours from 1st contraction and approx only 3.5 hours in established labour

congratulations sinks and merks! !

Hang on in there breast feeding hags... The first six weeks were awful but after that is so easy. That said little pink has her first tooth and I'm dreading her having a chomp. Grin Grin Sad

FrankelandFilly · 26/03/2014 17:03

Agree with Merks about how good the pool is for pain relief? HWHNN said I was so relaxed and spaced out in the pool that he thought I'd gone to sleep! I vomited too as my waters went, thankfully over the side of the pool not in it Grin

Massive congratulations to Sinks and family, a luffly boy ESHlet to add to the gang.

So now we wait for the June layers, you're up next Drizz Wink

GingerScouse · 26/03/2014 18:47

Congrats to Sinks et al, hope everything is going well.

Scan went well, everything normal and the sonographers keep telling me I've got a wriggler on board!

Managed to avoid finding out the sex as well, so a good day!

How's the pup, Bugs?

sinks has laid? Where's the news?

eurochick · 26/03/2014 20:05

merk that's a brilliant sneeze birth story. Well done. It's encouraging to hear good things about the pool too.

Were you thinking of trying for a home birth at one point? I saw you posting on a home birth thread just before you laid.

ging that's brilliant news. Smile The 15 April seems a looooong way off.

dor her husband put a post up on t'other place. It didn't show up on my newsfeed - I had to look at her wall.

SinkyMalinks · 26/03/2014 20:35

Howdy folks. Quick post, but to confirm I have laid.

The most horrendous labour. 6 days of latent with 4 days of near continuous contractions, but not progressing further than 2cm dilated until 24 hours ago. That meant no sleep and several desperate trips to triage to be sent away again. Came to a head yesterday evening - nothing really different, but I just felt I really couldn't cope. Got in, expecting to be sent away only to find 4+ protein in my urine, renal impairment, high blood pressure and swollen hands and feet. So off midwifery unit into consultant unit. But.... Was finally 5-6 cm dilated!

Seemed to be going well. My hind waters had gone without me realising. ARM of forewaters then good progress with pca and has and air.

Until it came to pushing. The ward round came, didn't speak to me or GHJ but we were informed we were going to theatre for forceps or emergency section...

A spinal going in when you feel like you're sat on you're baby's head is pretty difficult to sit still for/cope with in any way. I think I shouted a lot.

But me and mini sinks both well. He's a (grumpy) cutie. Bed rest at the moment, which is pretty tedious in a bay.

I'm now going to sleep for a hour or ten (hollow laugh)

Not at all the birth if hoped for (or anyone would hope for), but we survived!

ALittleFaith · 26/03/2014 20:45

Blimey I toddle off to work and it's all go in here!

Sinkysinks what a dramatic birth story! I'm sorry you had such a tough time but delighted he is safe and you are both well. One thing I wish someone had said to me after having Faithlet....get all the sleep you can. It's ok if other people look after miniSinks while you sleep, husbands, aunties, midwives....I thought I was a crap Mum for handing her over but it's fine and important you get some rest. Take the drugs they offer too!

Merks I had a MW visit at 11.30 once and she said I was the first person she'd seen that day who was dressed. Totally normal to bawl at everything at this point in time and for baby to feed round the clock IME!

ginge delighted to hear all is well. I'm guessing team blue.

I try not to post too much here now since I'm not diffed nor am I likely to be again if MSB has his way but I do lurk and send lots of hugs manly arm punches and chocolate hobnobs.
