frying that is useful. We were discarding after 4 hours, which is annoying at 4.30am (last 'day' feed finishes around 12). Thank you.

MrsV any progress today? Thinking of you.

We've had a lazy day after going to the docs, bit of a tonic after two weeks of visitors! Had a nice nap, watched Gilmore Girls.

chocoholicalcoholic · 03/02/2014 20:19

Hello ladies. Just read through and caught up with everything and have forgotten most of it Blush

Choco - another one here who formula feeds and have done for all three babies. DD goes 4 hours on 4oz but will soon be going to 5oz as she's a pig. How old is your DS? DD is 3 weeks. I think she'll be going through the night once she's on 5oz. Well, by through the night I mean 11pm til 6am ish.

Can't remember who said about making the bottles but we make a day up at a time and store in fridge then just warm up when needed.

BookTart · 03/02/2014 20:28

Good news humpty!

Thanks for the help sunshine. Persephone was also signed off by the midwife today as she is back up to birthweight. The midwife was very dismissive of the tongue tie possibility and thinks it is reflux instead, so I'll have to see how the health visitor feels on Wednesday. The lactation consultant may have referred us independently as well, so it is all a bit of a mess. I'm not really sure what to do now!

flyawayblue · 03/02/2014 20:45

Thank you sunshine. The community mw is arranging for someone to come out and asses, a bit irritated that I have to go though hoops when their own mw's diagnosed while I was still in kch postnatal ward.Â

Might see if I can self refer as I have a kch number.Â

humpty so glad your not infected, worried about you today. Sounds like you are heeling well.Â

For the bottle making up discussion we've been using some when my nipples were too sore, we just make up in the morning then keep in the fridge for up to 24 hours. We then microwaved for 20 seconds to take the edge off and she took them fine. The make up first is in the who guidelines and I think the mw advice until recently. It's also the method my pediatrician sil uses for her two so I'm happy. Not telling the community mw though, got enough of a face at mix feeding!

Alice is cluster feeding today and while this means lots of lovely cuddles it does mean less movement and that I only got a few mouthfuls of dinner.

Hope mrsv is doing well.

Felix90 · 03/02/2014 21:21

That's it, I'm making bottles up in advance now! Grin

chocoloulou34 · 03/02/2014 21:21

Yey for me not being the only bottle feeder lol.

felix and choco ds is just over 4 weeks old and went up to 5oz last week as he was draining 4oz bottles and sometimes crying for more so health visitor said to up it. He was 8lb 3oz when born and weighed 9lb 6oz last week so a rly good gain in weight. felix cant believe u do all that to make up a fresh bottle. Top marks for u lol. I make mine up in advance then just reheat oops. Did it with dd and she was ok so I just did same.
Glad ur not infected humpty cracked up at your murdered puppy comment haha. Bless her. Have not tried sebastian on water yet. He has aptimal comfort milk which is great for colic and constipation.
enormouse it will get easier. I have a friend who has 3 under 3 and at first she went into meltdown but once she had a routine going it was all ok. I font have a toddler but have dd 6 dsd 8 who live here and dss 5 whos here every other weekend and im finding it madness just getting out the house but know it will get better.

fryingpantoface · 03/02/2014 21:45

Henry is 3 weeks and on 4-5ozs a feed

Felix90 · 03/02/2014 21:50

Choco I think I will up to 5oz then. Sometimes she will still be hungry after 4, but sometimes she will only have 2 then want more about half an hour later or not finish the bottle at all. I've dug out the larger bottles and going to make some up now Grin I didn't realise so many people just made them up in advance rather than fannying about every time like I do. Sylvie is 6 weeks now and was 8lb 7 birth weight and when she was weighed 2 weeks ago she was 9lb 2 so I bet she's pretty heavy now. I'm getting her weighed again tomorrow.

So if I'm going out somewhere, I don't have a mess around carrying a flask of hot water and powder to make up a bottle? This is a revelation to me. I have a bottle warm/cool bag so can I just stick a bottle in there straight from the fridge and go?

Felix90 · 03/02/2014 21:51

Do you both find they spit up milk a lot? Quite often Sylvie will projectile vom milk everywhere (very convenient in the middle of the night) and now I'm scared of her doing it every time I feed her.

fryingpantoface · 03/02/2014 22:12

That's right Felix take it straight from the fridge and put it in the bag. You'll be totally fine.

some babies do sick things up a lot. Ethan did but Henry doesn't really. It's not something to worry about unless the baby stops putting on weight. That's what hv and gp told me with Ethan

littleraysofsunshine · 03/02/2014 22:27

Hi all! Just thought if find this thread Smile

chocoloulou34 · 03/02/2014 22:55

felix I just take cold bottle out with me straight from fridge but do have to get it heated up in a cafe or somewhere if we r out and about as sebastian will only drink it warm. I used to have a baby bottle warmer especially for being out and about but I cant find it now and they dont seem to sell them anywhere. Sebastian doesnt sick up much milk at all but dd projectile vomited every single feed. Was a nightmare taking her anywhere and my poor carpets were ruined!!! But she was a real piggy and drained every bottle and she was a real chubby little thing and always put on weight somehow so dont worry about it :)

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 03/02/2014 23:00

Hmm, so, maybe we have colic?
Alex has been an utter pain this evening, fussy, straining, cycling her legs, won't settle in one position for more than five minutes. Feeds for two seconds then screams bloody murder, even while latched on sometimes.
DH and I are taking it in turns to try and soothe her, but she is frantic. Not hungry, not dirty, been winded for an hour, cuddled (so far as you can cuddle a flailing screaming baby) etc.
I gave her boiled water and got a big poo out of her earlier, which was very orangey, less yellow than her usual efforts. She's not pooed in two days until this, but I assume having gone, it can't be constipation, can it? Plus, it wasn't hard at all when it did come.
She's wetting plenty of nappies, but not pooing much at all.
Any ideas?

MrsVDB · 04/02/2014 04:45

Sorry still need to catch up but just to let you all know baby Henry was born at 11.34pm Monday night weighing a whopping 10lb 4! Ended up with c section due to only getting to 4cm despite strong contractions every 2 minutes Sunday evening/ all of Monday. Will post properly in next couple of days :)

Frizz1986 · 04/02/2014 05:17

Huge congrats mrsv and what a size! Glad you are both safe and well.

TobyLerone · 04/02/2014 05:33

Congratulations, MrsV! Lots of Henrys on this thread :) It's such a lovely name.

Humpty, you just have to ride it out, I'm afraid. We use Infacol on Meredith, but I'm not sure if it actually does any good really. It doesn't happen every night, but it's hell when it does.
Occasionally we can head it off by feeding her and taking her to bed before it really ramps up, but I think that's more luck than anything.
We do find that DH has more luck calming her than I do, because when she's with me she thinks she wants to feed, even when she doesn't, and she gets quite distressed.

Naturegirl82 · 04/02/2014 07:20

Congrats mrsv. What a weight!

Olivia is back up to birth weight which is great. Had a really good night last night as well Smile Have her newborn photo shoot today. Hoping it goes well!

TarkaTheOtter · 04/02/2014 09:01

humpty have you tried a warm bath to help calm Alex? Can help relax them enough to bring up really trapped wind.

With dd my gp told me that they can strain and be red faced even when not constipated because they aren't very good at coordinating the required muscles yet.

My Alex is still sleeping only on my chest at night and feeding almost hourly through the day. Nearly 5 weeks now so hopefully things will improve soon! Especially as dh now works abroad mon-thurs!

Felix90 · 04/02/2014 09:07

Congrats MrsV!!

BuntCadger · 04/02/2014 09:36

congratulations MrsV and wow another big baby! :) x

BuntCadger · 04/02/2014 09:39

I had hv round yesterday for first visit and she weighed Zachary. he's 10 lb 4 oz now so over birth weight. he's 2 weeks old today.

GummiBear74 · 04/02/2014 09:41

Congratulations, mrsv, so glad that he has finally arrived!

humpty, perhaps it's just what they call the 'arsenic hour'? Annabel also gets very unsettled and unhappy in the evenings. I think it's just one of those things that babies do Confused

tarka, my DH is also working overseas - he left this morning, back on Thursday night. How are you finding it? I've been absolutely bloody terrified of being left on my own with her. I have some family members dropping in to help, but I just worry that I won't ever be able to eat/go to the loo/brush my teeth ever again Sad

TarkaTheOtter · 04/02/2014 09:52

Congratulations mrsv!!

gummi today is his first day away but he'll be going every week from now on. I'm most worried about bedtime and overnight as I have a bad sleeping toddler as well. I think it's just a case of surviving as well as possible and having low expectations. I'm also having to toughen up a bit about the fact that there will be times when one is crying whilst I deal with the other! I'll sleep at the weekend!

Felix90 · 04/02/2014 10:05

Oh gosh sorry for those with DH's working away. Hopefully you will adjust to it quickly and get in to a good routine Smile

It's lovely and sunny outside and I feel like I should take Sylvie out for a walk but there's nowhere to go round here! Also I'm worried about getting the pram down the couple of steep steps at our front door Sad I've been using the bad weather as an excuse not to go out so far.

chocoholicalcoholic · 04/02/2014 10:17

Felix - yep another who sicks up a lot. Projectile vom is quite spectacular! The latest trick from DD is to cough and burp at the same time after feeding which creates a rather powerful vom surge. The noise that erupts from her is pretty cool though. DP says she sounds like a dinosaur..

Humpty - we have a colicky baby too. Had a bad couple of evenings last week but has been loads better since trying infacol. DP has also been helping to wind her as he can hold her up on his shoulder for so much longer than I can. Also true about the witching hour that some babies go through. It's happened with all of mine. They've been more unsettled in the evening for no reason, crying for no reason. I think it's just something babies do. Just ride it out, it will improve. Take each day as a new one.

Congratulations MrsV!

Think I may up DD to 5oz and see if she takes it. She's been draining her bottles and seems to be routing for more. Chunk.

Lazy day for me today. Really need to sort this house out but that's what tomorrow is for. Always leave it 'for tomorrow' Grin
