We've now welcomed mini sun, dawn, kat, zazou and selfies (please tell me I haven't missed anyone...)....who will be next?!

Those of us waiting impatiently will be showing down on dates, pineapple, RLT and curry while having awkward whale sex.

I think I'll be expressing lots of milk before drinking, as I don't do the whole '1 glass of wine' thing - I get proper drunk of my lovely vodka. I occasionally have a strawberry daquiri, but I just enjoy being drunk, so won't risk baby being drunk too :P

Julietee · 22/01/2014 18:28

Petty Thanks for the Jack Newman recommendation. Really interesting stuff.

tinypolkadot · 22/01/2014 19:17

Interesting reading all the different nct experiences. I asked about alcohol in the breastfeeding session too! It was talked about but very much in the vein of 'you won't want to drink much anyway'.

Most stuff I have learned on mn but making friends was the main thing for me when we decided to do nct.

Maybe there's a gap in the market for mummy/bump networking without the learning bit?

We actually had a little meet up at the nct leaders house this morning where we met our support workers - 3 mums with their 5 month old babies! They will be facilitating meetings every two weeks at their houses for us, and even offered to pick us up if we are struggling with driving etc. It was really lovely and totally unexpected. Was so lovely to see their babies.

amhurst · 22/01/2014 19:22

Morien, funny I'm in belgium too and my husband went to London for the day too! ...so I'm up since five as well.feeling haggard..lovely to read through the threads..

Madallie · 22/01/2014 20:11

Hi everyone, I know I'm a bit late to this thread (very actually) but I hope it's ok to join.

I am 38 weeks tomorrow with dc2, due February 6th. Very excited about the imminent arrival but seem to be getting more anxious by the day. Don't know if anyone else feels the same.

I feel a bit behind, haven't done anything to start inducing labour, apart from the odd bounce on on my ball. Had mw app today, all is good and baby is fully engaged, although heard that doesn't often count for much, wishful thinking on my part I think.

TeaAddict235 · 22/01/2014 20:33

Oh Ladies, we're nearly there! Welcome Madallie and Bella.

Today i had a MW appointment at 37 weeks and 4 days, all okay, but (TMI) i might have thrush! eek. So have been downing glasses of water, and waddling off to the toilet every 20 mins.

My NHS classes have been good, bar the mutes in the classes. Just the times have been difficult for DH due to work, and his boss is narked off at the length of the classes. But hey ho, its life.

We will all have little people soon! Can bearly believe it myself.

Is anyone still having cravings at the mo? I have a penchant for ice lollies (could be responsible for the thrush issues tho)

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 22/01/2014 20:36

I've not been drunk since having DS. I can imagine nothing worse than a hangover with a baby and/or small child. The nappies alone would kill me with a hangover, not to mention the sleep deprivation aspect Confused Grin

Hoping everyone gets a decent sleep tonight Smile and welcome to all the newcomers Grin

camwombat · 22/01/2014 20:40

Bella I've just ordered some nursing tops from H&M online as they don't sell them in-store. code 1304 I think it was gives you £5 off which covers the postage.

And now my brain has gone blank I'm going to have to go back and re-read the end of the thread so I can remember what else I was going to write!

Morien · 22/01/2014 21:01

Amhurst that's funny! They were probably on the same train. Mine's not back yet, but while waiting at St Pancras he met one of his oldest friends, who'd also gone for the day!

Littleen · 22/01/2014 21:18

welcome madallie :)

Julietee · 22/01/2014 21:44

Tea I've had thrush on and off the whole way. Gets noticeably worse when I eat white bread (especially bagels for some reason. Go figure!). It's never uncomfortable for too long so I just drink a lot/ cut down the white carbs for a day or two and shrug it off. Or I'd be constantly on the canesten and I cannae be arsed.

Shropshiremummy2B · 22/01/2014 22:12

Sooooo I think I just experienced these "stabby cervix pains" you speak of. Like a knitting needle being lightly jabbed up your chuff? Not painful, but weird. Well, actually exciting for me as it made me feel slightly pregnant! I had just climbed a big hill with the dog and had no one to tell except him, and he didn't care.

Had my 38 week appt today. She called me a textbook pregnancy which is sort of nice, but reaffirmed my fears that an easy pregnancy can mean either a shitty labour or il be lumped with a Damien styleeee devil child. She also told me that the county of Shropshire has the highest birth weights in the country, thanks for that.

So nothing really to report, had a massive top to toe clean of the house (which at 400yrs old has more crevices than a midwife has seen) but wouldn't call it nesting then swimming this afternoon. Off to Birmingham tommorow to abuse my sisters 35% Selfridges discount.

Welcome to am the Jonny Come Latelys, you're more than welcome to join, but don't go queue jumping or you'll have to face the wrath of some very waddley women!!

Hope you all sleep like a pethedined baby.

BellaBooo · 22/01/2014 23:11

Hi madallie

Gnitting ooh thanks for that, makes me feel better, plus I'm such a slow drinker anyway if I drink at home.

Tea yes I've been craving salt the whole way through, still am.

Thanks for the code Cam! I didn't manage to find any so it will have to be online.

Shropshire there's no worries on that front from me. I fully expect to be the one holding the wooden spoon at the end of this!

DH picked up the post late tonight to find a parcel I'd ordered waiting in the communal area for all to see. I'd put it in his name and for some reason the company printed underneath our address the details of the contents, which read 'Hemeroid pads'.
He's mortified everyone in the block now thinks they know something about him. Where as I am feeling prepared for labour and biting my lip hard to curtail my laughter

EeyoreIsh · 23/01/2014 06:28

Bella that made me giggle out loud! There's no glamour in late pregnancy Grin

I thought something exciting might have happened for me overnight as I was having bad backache and occasional cramps last night. I kept waking up feeling feverish and in pain, then dozing off again. This morning all I've got going on is constant back ache and occasional pains in my bottom.

I'd like to think it's my body getting ready for labour, but I think it's more likely that I just did too much on my feet yesterday.

My mum, sister and 5 month old nephew are coming to visit today and stay overnight Smile I'm looking forward to it, and to getting my haircut before they arrive.

Litleen I hope you had another good night's sleep and you're doing okay. thinking of you

sunflowered · 23/01/2014 06:58

Shhh shrops don't say the T word. I'm sure that's what jinxed me. It's like telling a midwife the ward is quiet.

After waking involuntarily at 4am for what feels like the last 6 months, now I need to wake myself up to pump I keep sleeping through the alarm. Also can't drink due to my lovely postnatal drug regime. Have to say I'm not really feeling the need for a glass of wine just yet but would be nice to have the option at least (though juggling laptop, wine glass and breast pump/baby is more than my limited coordination would be able to manage if drinking during a feed is the best option!)

Hi to the newbies - hope you don't have too long to wait.

Shropshire - I can confirm that the knitting needle jabs most definitely do hurt like hell!! So the ones you've felt must be different, I think I know the sensation you mean though as I've also had those and they do feel weird. Wink

Thingymajigs · 23/01/2014 09:28

Yes the knitting needle pain feels more like someone is jabbing it into your cervix. Bearable but makes you wince and stop what you're doing.
I can sleep! I know, I've been so quiet about my insomnia issues that you may not have realised I had any sleep problems. Wink Grin But in the last few days since baby has dropped I can sleep again and it is glorious. I feel like I can be pregnant for another month easily now, although I don't think they let you go that overdue. It must only be a couple of cms he has dropped but I can breathe properly and I've stopped snoring. DP is very pleased about that one.
Right, who is next? I'd like some more cute baby pics please.

CubanoHabana · 23/01/2014 09:53

Well I was a 4am insomniac this morning... But couldn't be bothered to get up.

Stabby pains up foof for me today and feel like bump has dropped again. Have mw today so see what she says.

On upside, burn on hand so much better today, no pain - in fact pain disappeared the moment I put some Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on it - strongly recommend!

Bumpiemalumpie · 23/01/2014 10:06

ah, others get the hitting needle up the fanjo pains!! I get them up my no. 2 hole more often though.

I hate this no sleeping thing. it feels like I just drop off and I need another wee!!!!!!!! raahhhh last night I almost fell asleep on the loo! tempted to take a duvet and sleep in the bath!

I am feeling fed up today and it is only my 4th day of mat leave! I have potentially 3 weeks left raaahhh

sorry all!!

Ladybird81 · 23/01/2014 10:10

A better night sleep for me thankfully, must of needed it, full of beans today. Even DS had to be woken for pre-school this morning!
Glad some of the rest of you managed to sleep better also, makes a huge difference if you can get a decent night sleep.
Baby appears to have dropped, which means my appetite is back with vengeance, good or bad not sure, i had lost 5 pounds, that will go on quick again now though the way i'm eating.
Been having pain in my bum for weeks now, that travels down my leg, and into my other bum cheek and down my other leg. My midwife thinks that i have a trapped sciatic nerve and did i want to be refereed? is there any point with only a few weeks to go, is it likely that i'll get an appointment before i'm due to go in anyway? and is is likely to disappear after birth?

KalevalaForMePlease · 23/01/2014 10:12

Well I fear I have joined the 4am insomniac crowd, was awake this morning and took ages to get back to sleep. Knew I wouldn't get away with it for much longer!

In other news, got my giant post pregnancy knickers today! I remember them from last time, soooo comfortable, keeps your tummy warm. About two months after DD was born, DH finally cracked and asked if I was ever going to wear normal knickers again! Blush

spritesoright · 23/01/2014 10:18

Hi, I haven't been on this thread for ages (just found I couldn't keep up) but now that the countdown is on (37 weeks today) and I'm on maternity leave I thought I'd check back in.
Exciting to hear of so many babies already arrived!
Hmm, not getting the stabbing knitting needle pains mentioned above but maybe that's a good thing.
I am currently waiting to hear from the birth centre and hoping they will check me in before I go into labour.
Anyone else in birth centre limbo? I didn't get to have DD1 there due to complications and I am really hoping for a better experience this time.
ladybird did they say how far the baby had dropped? Midwife told me DD is 2/5 descended. Not sure that means fully dropped yet. I'm not doing the waddle quite yet...

CubanoHabana · 23/01/2014 10:40

Ha ha kal loving that husband asked when you were going to wear normal underwear! Have a feeling my dh will be doing the same - it is nice having a warm tummy and I no longer care whatsoever about VPL!

gnittinggnome · 23/01/2014 11:41

ladybird if the pains are your baby compressing your sciatic nerve it ought to be stop as soon as your baby comes. How bad is it? Can you take painkillers for it? Keep trying to stretch our your leg muscles, as they can start to cramp and spasm and that's another intensely horrible pain you don't want. Hope you can get some relief from it, but not sure how physio can help if the baby is just sat awkwardly. But then the baby might shift by itself, which may help.
