WeeJo08 · 05/01/2014 18:31

Crazylady What's your PhD in? How are you finding it?

Feeling We did our weekly shop today too. Had a £12 off a £60 shop voucher so was well worth it! Grin

We took DD to the swimming pool today. She had such a good time! It was brill Grin Managed to get 10 lengths done myself while DH played with DD & then he did his while I got DD changed. Felt fantastic to be active again! Mind you, am definitely looking forward to a nice bath tonight! The weather is HORRENDOUS! Confused

wejammin · 05/01/2014 18:41

weejo, I make them but they do sell them at hideous expense in our local health food shop.

Basically chop all the leaves off some curly kale, cut out the stalks, toss in a little oil, spread on a baking tray in a single layer and bake until crispy (keep checking them, they burn easily). You can add flavorings like salt, chilli, parmesan etc.

They are totally addictive, but high in all kinds of nutrients. Win!

Polkadot1 · 05/01/2014 18:49

Anyone else struggling with changing poo-eye nappies due to nausea?! I just did DS's before putting him to bed and wretched 5 times!

Polkadot1 · 05/01/2014 18:49

Poo-ey, not poo-eye!!!

WeeJo08 · 05/01/2014 18:54

Wejammin They sound amazing! And not too complicated either! I wish I'd bought kale with my shopping now! I'm addicted to red grapes at the moment. I guess there are worse things to be addicted to!

Polka I've just sent DH to deal with one Grin They're made extra tricky by all the bloody wriggling DD does!

RosesOnTheWane · 05/01/2014 18:58

Hi all,
Glad I am not the only one stuffing carbs!

Can I share a worry? I had several MMC before I had my twins, including 1 after a successful 7 week scan. I have a fetal Doppler but can't find a heartbeat (am 8w5d so I think probably too early) and I am so nervous that there is a problem. I have been torturing myself with googling and know that in some cases you can still have symptoms of pg with a MMC. I have 3 weeks at least to wait till another scan and can't afford a private one.
Please can you give me a slap and tell me to stop dwelling on it! Thanks :)

HungryHorace · 05/01/2014 19:03

Rose, Rose, Rose....Dopplers are the work of the devil in the wrong hands. You have absolutely zero chance of hearing anything at 8 weeks!

Your midwife will offer to listen at 16 weeks, and will still warn you that she may not be able to find the heartbeat if baby is in the wrong position. And their Dopplers are better than those we can buy.

Unless you know what you're listening for (and know the difference between your pulse, the baby's, as well as what's a healthy heartbeat or one that's of concern) I'd implore everyone to please not use these at home.

Please do not worry based on a Doppler. Xx

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 05/01/2014 19:05

Hungry she is pregnant and just started tc, worried they will get rid of her. Do you just end up doing a longer one then? Thanks for replying btw.

crazylady2013 · 05/01/2014 19:06

Weejo my PhD is in plant biology so not something I can really put on hold.

RosesOnTheWane · 05/01/2014 19:06

I found the DTs heartbeats at 9 and a bit weeks and used the Doppler until I could feel movement to reassure me that they were still alive! I was 4 st lighter then though!

I do know what I am listening for - quite a few times I had to show the MW where to look! But I know it's too early. Aaa argh I hate all the uncertainty.

FriendofDorothy · 05/01/2014 19:08

My boss is going to have a fit when I tell him I am pregnant. My colleague is already going off on mat leave in March and she intends to take just over a year off. I suspect that I will have a baby, go on mat leave and then get back before she does!

I am a social worker in a substance misuse service. It's a great job but can be tough at times.

FriendofDorothy · 05/01/2014 19:09

Weight can make a massive difference to being able to find a heartbeat.

WeeJo08 · 05/01/2014 19:10

Crazylady I imagine not! Are you enjoying it? Are you teaching/lecturing too or is it mainly research?

HungryHorace · 05/01/2014 19:16

The thing is, it isn't just about hearing a heartbeat, it's about knowing whether what you're hearing is a healthy heartbeat as well, or if there's concerns.

My friend is a midwife and they don't like pregnant women using Dopplers, as they can find a heartbeat and get a false sense of security when actually something is wrong. She said to me that if I was ever worried I should go and get monitored as they would rather monitor than not. Obviously this is more relevant later on, as they wouldn't monitor this early.

But yes, weight will make a difference to finding the heartbeat.

Aren't you back at work after mat leave tomorrow, Friend?

mssleepyhead · 05/01/2014 20:08

I can't believe pregnancy has put me off my food. I'm never off my food. I'm not sick, but I look at a plate off food and just can't eat it. Unless it's pasta. With oil and chilli flakes. This does not bode well for going back to work tomorrow - I'll be passed out by break!

Polkadot1 · 05/01/2014 20:17

Good luck to all those going back tomorrow. I've got a busy 2 weeks 12 days on the run) but then a week in Gran canaria- so just trying to get through til then! Hopefully 12 week scan on return from hols!

HungryHorace · 05/01/2014 20:23

Mssleepyhead, I'm forcing myself to eat what's put in front of me. It can take an age to eat dinner!

I'm jealous of your holiday, Polka! Lucky you. :-)

Nulanoo · 05/01/2014 20:36

I've just had a massive melt down crying until I couldn't breathe. It started because my dp got paint on the floor whilst decorating and just spiralled into a massive melt down is that normal?

travispickles · 05/01/2014 20:46

Yes nulanoo, and it gets worse!! Last pregnancy I frequently had meltdowns about things- I once sobbed about the fact that my mum had made a really shit cheese sandwich. Seriously!

HalfPintPickle · 05/01/2014 20:49

Aww, Nulanoo - I think emotional breakdowns are common occurrence in pregnancy. I had the ALL the time with DD.

The best ones were that DH took too long to make me a cup of tea and (seperate meltdown) that he didn't shave off his beard one morning!

I can laugh now but at the time, those things were very traumatic for me ;) they get better th more the hormones settle I vaguely remember

Evening ladies! No symptoms here (well except no AF of course) and although it was the same with dd1, I can't take it as a good sign. Am 10 weeks tomorrow and it's going to be a long two weeks after that! (Not that I've actually been given a scan date yet...)

NameToBeDecided · 05/01/2014 21:14

Rose I know exactly how you feel. I had a mmc after normal scan at 7 weeks and I'm driving myself nuts with worry at times. I had a bit of a meltdown on here just this afternoon. I only had the early scan cos I had an ectopic after dd so they have to check it's all in the right place each time. As the other lovely ladies said to me earlier we just have to occupy ourselves with other things and take each day as it comes.
Consider yourself slapped!! Grin

miserywaterfall · 05/01/2014 21:21

travis genuine heartily laughter here about the idea of the bad cheese sandwich making you cry!
