A big fat welcome party for twinkle and just another thread for us all to keep in touch Smile

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fatasbutter · 05/02/2014 14:49

Nah don't think so - all settled down and no contractions. But I was a bit worried it might be as I sat shivering on the loo in the middle of the night!! DH had drunk a bottle of wine with BIL who popped over, so he would have been useless (and it would therefore have been the perfect time!! Grin) am just knackered. My mum is on her way for a couple days visit and has just sent me message saying she's not feeling great and will need a rest when she arrives! Wtf?! This is taking the piss!! Where's my effing rest?!AngryHmmConfused
(I guess my whinging wasn't confined to prev message after all!!lol!)

BlearyeyedLol · 05/02/2014 15:15

How many weeks are you fatas?

fatasbutter · 05/02/2014 16:42

I'm 38+4. Last baby started appearing at 40+3 so hopefully this one will be similar!!

twinklestar2 · 06/02/2014 14:09

Hi all I'm feeling ok. Work knows now and its so lovely everyone coming up and congratulating you. The novelty of being able to eat whatever i was has worn off so I'm back to eating well, just eating more of the good stuff.

I'm making sure i walk too and from the station for work everyday so that gives me almost an hours exercise a day.

I'm 14 weeks today.

Alexandra6 · 06/02/2014 15:40

Ah winkle I loved being pregnant Smile Enjoy! Although when you said about the walking, it reminded me of when I had all the stress about having a short cervix - I was terrified to walk anywhere or even stand up in case it opened! Turns out I have a cervix of steel as Sophia was so late Smile As hard as sleep deprivation/reflux etc can be, I'm so damn grateful she's here.

MrsBri · 06/02/2014 16:37

Winkle, I'm 14 weeks today too. :-)

I envy you being able to walk that far. I really struggle as my bump aches, even from early on. Though when I go back to work I'll have to do it too. Thank god it's not for long!

How late was Sophia, Alex?

Fatas, how are you today? What time is your appt tomorrow? I'd go bonkers having to wait that long for a date. Which hospital is it?

Fetched our new (second hand) pram earlier. It's awesome! Looks almost unused. DH loves it too!

RedRobin1 · 06/02/2014 22:42

Enjoy all the attention twinkle I loved that bit about being pregnant and my work colleagues were so nice to me. Make the most of it Smile

Fatas hope you get a date soon! How you feeling otherwise?

OP posts:
Alexandra6 · 07/02/2014 03:27

She was two weeks late nic - waters broke on their own on my induction date but they still ended up speeding it up with the drip! Not the water hypnotherapy birth I had in mind and I think the staff made mistakes too but oh well, she's here and that's absolutely the main thing Smile

Alexandra6 · 07/02/2014 03:32

Oh and I'm trying to remember if anyone has a small gap between their current children here - if so, what's it like?

red how are you getting on now? What sort of sleep are you getting?

Thingymajigs · 07/02/2014 06:21

Hopefully you can get your hypnobirthing labour next time Alex. Smile I had so many plans including an epidural and a nice relaxed labour, tea and toast as I was pushing, delayed cord clamping, skin to skin etc but as I ended up nearly pushing him out in the car I felt all that drift away from me. It was the exact opposite of my relaxed birth but we are all safe, I recovered immediately and I wouldn't change any of it now.
It won't be too long before you can feel baby move twinkle. I can't believe how fast time is going, it feels like you've only just told us about your bfp.
Felix is doing great. He's 4 days old and perfect. We had issues yesterday with repetitive, painful latching (an understatement) and cluster feeding but the last 6 hours have seen an improvement. Does anyone know how long engorgement lasts and when boob size settles down? I had to buy a size large Mothercare sleep bra yesterday (£18!) but I'm thinking I might shrink back down soon so there's no point in buying any more yet.

MrsBri · 07/02/2014 07:10

Thingy, we were told to buy bras at 10 days post-partum as your supply / size should have settled then.

I can empathise re painful latch. My nipples were battered. :-/

I don't think I'm going to get a rapturous response from my colleagues when I go back to work, it has to be said! We shall see though. It's not for long, thank god.

I wanted a water birth, but thanks to having meconium in my waters I got a heavily monitored labour, culminating in c section. Which also puts a stop to me ever having a water birth. All I can say is I'm glad I laboured quick as being made to lie down for a long time would have driven me mad.

ELCS all the way this time! Apparently the consultant may insist on this anyway as it's only just a year after DD due to the risk of rupture.

Are you ok, Fatas?

kittykatsforever · 07/02/2014 07:40

Yes thingy I was thinking a week or two for boob settleage
Mrsbri yes you get no where near the same response second time, I think if you could read there minds it would swing between lucky buggar/ taking the piss it's likes one a novelty two!!! Are you having a laugh! It's one of the main things that puts me off 3 how I'd tell work, it's like the money comes out of their personal pockets the way they react!
Alex I have 20 months between, not really small but I'm happy with it, it was hard at the beginning even though dd1 was a very good talker and indipendant but 6 months on the difference in her is unbelievable so would have been even easier if it was that but longer I'm happy with it, the only thing I found hard was if I was on my own at night putting them to bed as they had the same bed time or if I wanted to put dd2 to bed first dd1 wouldn't want to be left on her own for 10 mins, she kept wanting to follow me, apart from that I've loved it and loved having the time at home with them

MrsBri · 07/02/2014 08:23

Kitty, I'm definitely in the taking the piss category! I'll have the shortest return ever of someone who's been on mat leave! Taking annual leave into account, the least amount of time I need to go back for is 5 weeks. :-) I'm thinking I'll do 9 or 10 though. Maybe! See how nice they are to me.

Do your girls play together now? I'm hoping that once DC2 is about 6 months (sitting / able to play more independently) that it should hopefully ease off a bit. That's a long way off yet though!

When are you back at work? Can't be long now? Boo!

kittykatsforever · 07/02/2014 08:52

It's not Hmm my official start back day was feb 5th but I've used all my annual leave so not in till 2nd April, I don't want too!
They don't really play together although dd1 likes getting her things and helping me do nappys etc she makes her laugh a lot by jumping and hiding etc but it's not playing like you can leave them really just that they entertain each other for maybe 10 mins till she's bored then dd1 wants me to do something with her or dd2 wants more food lol you don't really see any proper interaction with kids where they have a game until I think 12-18 months or until they can walk and get into trouble, there is 10 months between my dd1 and my sisters dd1 and mine wasn't interested in her at all until after her 1st bday now they are 2 and a half and 18 months ish they have started to really engage with each other and get up to mischief, they like dancing together and things so that's really cute, up until then my dd wasn't interested in her at all but it might be her personality partially, my friend only has 1 year between her 2 girls and she said the first year was just a blur of hard work but after that when they could interact it's become much easier and lovely, there are perks and cons for doing it close and leaving it but I like a small gap

Thingymajigs · 07/02/2014 09:47

Thanks, I'll make do with this one bra for now then.
There are pros and cons for all types of age gaps so I wouldn't worry about timing things right. There are 13.5 years between ds1 and ds3, 10 years between ds2 and ds3. This gap works great for us so far. Ds2 has been fully involved with the pregnancy and really appreciates his little brother. Ds1 would not have coped with another brother before now so it really depends on the individual family and work situation. I know most people much prefer small age gaps and manage everything fine.

kittykatsforever · 07/02/2014 10:31

If I had another thingy that's when I'd want a bigger gap too! Atleast one in school but both would be nice Grin

tedmundo · 07/02/2014 18:32

That's what I got Kitty .. Ds1 and DS2 in school so just baby stuff in the day time! I like it. It is like having a singleton again.

My boobs were magnificent that first few weeks. I remember them fondly. I am distinctly lacking in boobage now. It is a source of constant regret for me that I only have a cleavage in Pregnancy and early baby time :(

MrsB .. I would have been 8 weeks preg with DS2 had I returned to work and I can only imagine the cats bum faces I would have got when I announced that corker. It was a part of my decision not to go back. Plus the job I did was not conducive to part time work, I was anxious about how it would all pan out. Now I am anxious about trying to get back into the workplace. It has been a long long time since I interviewed for anything. I will probably go back to college anyway because I don't want to do what I did before (it project management).

I occasionally toy with the idea of social work but DH thinks I am mad to even consider it.

Winkle .. 14 weeks?!? I am so excited for you, this middle bit will fly by ( the end bit, not so much!).

RedRobin1 · 07/02/2014 18:50

I think after the trauma of c section it will take me years to think about ttc for dc2. Although they say you do forget bury the trauma deep in your memory Smile

I'm doing okay. Breastfeeding is getting worse. Dd seems to choke and splutter on fast let down boob and seems to cry in frustration and yank nipple on the slow flow boob. This results in very stressful feeding and ends up with me crying. I'm going to a support group next week as I want to persevere but so tempted to use the aptamil in the cupboard!! Also dd has stopped taking bottles of expressed milk and decides she prefers boob than bottle so we are back to square one. I have no option at the moment except the painfully stressed feeding.

Apart from that I love my daughter and she is the best thing that's come into our lives Smile

MrsBri · 07/02/2014 20:39

Ted, I'll be 18 weeks when I go back! Oops.

I'm not allowed to go part time and it's a 90 minute commute each way, so I won't go back after DC2 appears.

Red, I totally empathise with BF difficulties, and crying while feeding. I hope it gets better.

And I cry every time I think about Amy's birth. When the midwife told me about it in more detail at my booking in she was mortified that I cried! I'm crying now, in fact.

But we are somehow having another and I'm sure you will too :-) You're younger than me though, so no hurry!

twinklestar2 · 07/02/2014 20:53

Nic it'll be a race to see who gives birth first!

MrsBri · 07/02/2014 21:32

I'm having a c section at (probably) 39 weeks, so it's not a fair race! :-)

Amy came bang on 40 weeks after we know we conceived (3 days late by scan).

I hope you don't have to wait too long to meet baby winkle, i.e. 42 weeks! Are you finding out the flavour?

fatasbutter · 07/02/2014 21:53

Hello all. CS planned for Tuesday so not too much longer to go! Nausea back with a vengeance and awful trapped wind and dodgy bowels - can't frickin' wait til I get my own tummy back!!!

Wow winkle - already 14 weeks! Amazing! And congrats ThanksThanksThanks

RedRobin1 · 07/02/2014 22:34

thingy forgot to say my boobs grew 2 sizes when the milk came in on day 3 and have since just stayed huge and no sign of any further changes at 5weeks.

nic I think it may be the other way around and you may be younger! I'm 31yrs old and I want the next one before 35 but can't face small age gap as I don't think I could cope.

fatas hope you have a positive experience. Everyone I speak to who had a planned c section have had positive stories Smile

twinkle 14 weeks have flown by! The second trimester is def the best part of pregnancy and make the most of it.

OP posts:
MrsBri · 07/02/2014 22:42

If only, Red...I'm 37! :-/

We decided to just go for it as we were already tired so it may as well continue. Though it's nothing like newborn sleep deprivation now, thank god!

Fatas, I'm glad you have a date. Bet you just want it to be Tuesday now!

I'm still waiting for my second trimester energy to kick in. Winkle, are you less tired now?

My boobs are massive already. God knows how big they will get this time as they were huge when my milk came in with Amy.

twinklestar2 · 08/02/2014 22:04

Good luck for Tuesday fatas!

I'm staying team yellow! I want the surprise. I feel fine! Even DTD tonight for the first time in months Grin
