cannot i did preg yoga (a new class, as I ditched the one that read poems and talked about breathing bubbles) and it has helped my back a lot. It was like a good stretchy work out but without you ever feeling like you are out of breath/doing too much. The change is massive...feel much less waddly and more like my old self and puffiness in face gone down. Wonder if the right class might help you? Mind you if the pain is severe might sound like the last thing you want.

I also agree photo albums for nesting. I plan to sort out the nursery, garden lights, get the front of the house painted (by someone else), have lunch with people and get organised. Of course, life never goes to plan!

hi churros I wouldn't be having the gt test in the UK but apprantly its standard in Portugal and everyone has it.

lee I got the feeling it was advice I asked oh and he said it was discussed as a bit of stern advice to take a 30 minute walk after lunch and dinner as ive put on more weight than I should. but I honestly don't think it's that bad midwife in uk wasn't bothered at all she said women put weight on at different times some earlier than others im not going to be scaremongerd. sge also said to reduce carbs screw that sorry but being vegetarian im now eating very healthly in Portugal veg and soya and tofu im not going to stop having bread or pasta I'll stop any crisp buying but that's about it

patsy375 · 11/01/2014 14:26

Trinpy I've borrowed some hypnobirthing cds from a friend. Ive been listening to the pregnancy one a couple of times a week.
I'm supposed to start listening to the labour one at 32 weeks.
It is very relaxing. Ive fallen asleep listening to mine!
Just makes you concentrate on your breathing and focus your thoughts on your pregnancy and the baby.
Lee your bump should roughly be the same in centimetres as you are in weeks pregnant regardless of your height x

My "nesting" so far (not sure it is nesting so much as blind panic!) has mainly involved throwing things away. We are getting our upstairs painted, and need to be able to clear out one room at a time completely, so trying to get rid of everything we don't need pre painting, and then only get new baby stuff after it's done! So last two weekends have been a whirl of binning, free cycling, recycling centre, charity shop trips, and moving things around. Exhausted... This is by far the closest to any exercise I am getting!

Not sure that it is really nesting though, so much as a dawning realisation tha all this stuff is going to be much harder with a small person in the house so we'd better get it done!!

Right, I think I spot a freecycler arriving!

Trinpy · 11/01/2014 17:52

Oh those CDs sound really good patsy. Which ones is it that you've got?

Misty9 · 11/01/2014 18:28

Hi all. Feeling bit sorry for myself as it's my bday but toddler is ill and I'm not sleeping so bloody knackered. Ah well, it's nearly over for another year! Always bit of flat one after Christmas, hence why I actively avoided Dec and Jan births :)

can't quite believe she'll be here in less than 3 months...

Cannotbelieveit · 11/01/2014 19:41

Thanks everyone think I will look into yoga or something!

25 weeks (seems to be going quicker now! Grin)

patsy375 · 11/01/2014 19:41

Trinpy I have the Pregnancy relaxation and Effective Birth preparation CD's.
You can get them from the website
natalhypnotherapy.co.uk.
They are 11.99 each or you can get them as downloads.
Have a look, see what you think.

misty happy birthday to you( in a singsong voice) Smile. So sorry little misty is not well. It puts a damper on the day, doesn't it? Hope the day after will be much better for you and your little one.
tripper i am not a crafty person, not for lack of want but i am just not good at it.
However, you have just reminded me of something really important that needs doing. We have been in our home for a year and i still have not put any pictures on the walls. That is my nesting chore. Thanks a bunchGrin. It will take ages but i now have the time.
Throwing things away too, more like putting together clothes we fo not need and sending them to a charity shop, that should do it...

jen2014 · 11/01/2014 21:39

Happy Birthday Misty!

Happy Birthday misty Cake

I can't believe our babies will be here in 3 months. I'm getting quite nervous about being a first time mummy now!

happy birthday misty! !

ChurrosConChocolate · 12/01/2014 09:09

Happy belated Birthday misty! Hope your day was ok in the end.

Trinpy yes, sorry, I mean maternity allowance. It says on the form I downloaded I need to send copies of pay slips to prove how much I earn so they can work out how much pay I get. I just need to call the job centre I guess.
I can't afford the full hypnotherapy course either. My DH bought me a taster session with a book and some mp3s for Christmas. I've read the book and my husband is reading relaxations every evening and I'm listening to the tracks. We'll see if it helps..

Vikki oh, ok, I didn't think gt test was standard here. It's funny the things that change from country to country. I moved from Australia when pregnant with DS and there was all sorts of little bits of different advice.

blessed glad you have a maternity leave plan! Sorting stuff out sounds like a good plan, I'm trying to arrange getting fitted wardrobes built before baby 2 arrives so I can sort out my bedroom and clothes.

Is anyone planning a homebirth? The more I read I'm wondering if I should be stubborn and put my foot down about not going to the labour ward. The hospital is just at the end of my road so would take me 2 mins to get there... I have an appointment with the consultant at the end of the month and I know she's not going to like the idea after I tore and haemorrhaged last time but I might see if I can speak a midwife about it first.

Vikkijayne2507 · 12/01/2014 17:21

I think im going to get oh ti download some hypobirthing cds it can't hurt and could help me in the weeks before not panicking as I know I can do

27 + 4 weeks

LightTripper · 12/01/2014 23:01

My midwife seems very keen on having "a lovely home birth" :-)
But I am a first time scaredy (and further from hospital than you!) so am planning to go to the MLU!

Trinpy · 13/01/2014 11:40

Churros I'm planning on having a homebirth. This is my first though. Do speak to your midwife about it. I feel a lot safer with a homebirth because I know I'll have 2 midwives with me for the birth, so if anything goes wrong they will pick up on it asap and send me off to hospital. And it's not like transferring is an issue if your hospital is that close. My nearest hospital is 2 mins drive away and ambulance station is 2 doors down from me and I really don't think it would take any longer for me to get to theatre in an emergency than if I was in the mlu.

ChurrosConChocolate · 13/01/2014 15:52

The MLU won't accept me because of what happened last time but apparently you can't be refused a homebirth... although you can be advised against it. I've sent an email and left a voicemail with the supervisor of midwives to see if she will have a chat with me about it. Would like to have an experienced midwives point of view before seeing the consultant. We'll see how much resistance there is...!!

Hi. I'm new to this thread. Hello!!
I'm under the homebirth team but not sure if I'll go through with it yet. OH not keen and I have a toddler to think about too so it depends when I go into labour and how I feel at the time I guess.

I'm feeling pretty crap and knackered due to low blood pressure (& 22 month old dd!).
Starting to have the compulsive cupboard cleaning thoughts too!

mamapants · 13/01/2014 18:18

Everybody thinking about the birth!
I am debating the homebirth option. It was the original plan with DS but ended up under consultant led care and being induced in hospital.
Not sure this time as I was perfectly happy at hospital and know that you are already there if something goes wrong. But I really don't like the thought of leaving DS at home. And if its at night time then we would have to get my mum to watch him and I'm really not sure how well he'd cope if neither me or DP are there when he wakes in the night.
Got midwife appt tomorrow.

I had induction for antenatal classes which are apparently a legal requirement here in Portugal. also all babies and mums stay in for 2 days 3 if c section. I was surprised. also had anti d injection and have antenatal classes every Monday now. It was really good and nurse running class was lovely

LeeHandy · 14/01/2014 08:22

Hello everyone!
happy very belated birthday misty! hope your day went well in the end.
patsy that's useful information on bump size. I will check what I am measuring and if it is supposed to be the same regardless of height, that's probably the reason why I look so small.
I have started feeling so hot all the time now. I am sweating on my way to work and it's 1 degree!
I am definitely doing the whole hospital and consultant thing because am a first time scaredy as well. I also feel that if I assume nothing will go wrong then something usually does and the way around. Smile

Hi All,
Enjoying hearing about all the nesting!
Kata, you got it right, we however are having an extension done right now, in fact they started yesterday so came home to a ripped out kitchen...!!
Definitely going to be far from ideal come the beginning of April but I am just visualising the summer when hopefully I'll be less first-time-clueless with the baby and all the building work will be done. We were organised in other ways though and painted the baby room in the Autumn, knowing it'd be stressful and messy doing that while our extension is happening. I think I am going to have to stay with my mum for a couple of weeks after the birth just because of the state our house may well still be in. Anyone who already has children, is this a terrible/brilliant idea? She lives about 2 hours from us in London, in a village in the countryside.

I am looking into antenatal classes too at the moment, anyone have any tips/advice on this?

Babymoon holiday for my husband and I on Friday for a week. Bit worried about the flight (8+ hours) but think we'll be glad we took the chance to relax and just be the two of us before the baby arrives. Anyone else planning on getting away before their dd?

Third trimester fatigue not kicked in yet, steeling myself for when it does. Just feel there is so much to do before then, including the most enormous work handover!!!

Trinpy you were absolutely right about the maternity allowance, I just read the form again properly... Which is good news as I'll get the full amount!

spring where are you off to? Very jealous. We had a couple of days by the sea in Kent last week but had DS too, our last trip just the three of us I guess. When I was pregnant with DS we went away to Cuba and Mexico and it was lovely. House renovations sound exciting! Not sure about the plan to stay with your Mum, will your DH come too? Depends on your relationship with your Mum too but you probably won't want to be at home if there are builders there all the time for the first couple of weeks (I spent a good week or so slobbing around in pjs with my boobs hanging out... [big grin])

kat you just reminded me to do my pelvic floor exercises! I try and do them as much as I can remember (stopped at red lights, waiting for things to load on the computer...)

Vikki antenatal classes sound great, strange it's a legal requirement! What do they do if you don't go?!

I had a call from a lead midwife at the MLU centre last night and put my argument to why I should be allowed to go there and not the labour ward. She needs to talk to someone else and get back to me so fingers crossed! I think if they agree my consultant (and my parents!) would be happy with that but there would be a lot more resistance to a home birth. If they say no though I'm going to put my foot down about birthing at home, too many bad memories of labour ward...
