jen and misty I'm going to have a similar age gap but really don't want to get a double buggy! I'm hoping I can make do with a buggy board and sling for baby, pushchair for toddler combo. My DS is getting better at walking more... Maybe I'm being optimistic but we'll see how we go..

pretty I'm really superstitious about these things! Didn't have the pram in the house with DS but it's already here now so can't do much about that this time Smile I try not to buy too much until way into pregnancy and will get moses basket ready but not but up until I'm home with baby! I'm very rational about other things but my parents are superstitious and it's clearly rubbed off on me!

24 weeks today! I'm sure I wasn't this big at this stage with DS, could be all the eating over Christmas though Grin

Misty9 · 03/01/2014 21:37

cannot I couldn't see it on the mothercare website - do they stock it? There's 15% off at the moment so I'll be annoyed if I missed that!

churros I had thought I'd skip the double buggy but ds still naps in his and is a bit of a lazy so and so. He's also really uncertain about wobbly things so I dont know what he'd make of a buggy board... I also don't want to rely on the baby liking slings as ds hated his! It takes 4wks to order so I'm quite glad I've got it out of the way, and quite excited now! I can see them both using it for a year at least, then I'll use it as a single for dc2 and will have it in case of accidental dc3

jen2014 · 03/01/2014 21:47

moominleigh yay for being due date buddies! Is this your first?
churros I'm wondering the same thing - whether I can get away with not buying a double buggy. DS1 is a pretty good walker and will do a fair distance without complaint. It's just the tantrums I'm worried about, and possibly having to haul him under one arm when he's having a strop. Some friends have just spent £1200 on their double buggy which I personally think is crackers, especially as their oldest doesn't like being in a pushchair anyway!
No Braxton Hicks at all - that I know of misty - what do yours feel like?

moominleigh94 · 03/01/2014 22:00

Yep jen I'm very excited but very nervous!

ChurrosConChocolate · 03/01/2014 22:10

jen I really don't want a double buggy, I don't even know how I would fit it in our tiny flat! I think I'm going to see how I go without and then if I do need one just get a secondhand one as we can't afford to get a new one and with the age gap as it is will probably only be used for a short time anyway. Just hope the new baby like slings misty, hadn't considered it might not! DS still naps in his too but I figured if it was his nap time and I was out I would pop baby in sling (and actually I wouldn't be all that surprised if DS drops naps sooner rather than later anyway)

Misty9 · 03/01/2014 23:06

Cheers cannot, I was looking in the doubles section and they class it as single with extra seat :) looks like it's excluded from their discount anyway, and place i got it was marginally cheaper. Mystery solved at least :)

Jen, they feel like part or all of bump tightening and funny sensation. Makes needing loo more urgent! Had them early with first too but didn't realise what they were until had one during 28wk midwife appt and she told me!

LightTripper · 04/01/2014 08:48

We are going to have a first look at prams tomorrow... Not really looking forward to it!

I'm hoping I can use the sling a lot when she's small, so have been thinking of something like the city mini that you can strap a soft carry cot into, and then we can use the carrycot as an extra bed until she is big enough for a proper cot. We're not sure if we're getting a car yet, but if we do it will be small, so whatever buggy we get needs to fold down small, and also be easy to get on and off buses.

So I was thinking maybe City Mini or the lightweight Britax or Graca Evo, something like that. So unsure though... Need to see some for real!!

Bodeccia · 04/01/2014 13:18

Afternoon ladies

I've been in such a dilemma about double buggies, we're going to have newborn twins with a 23 month old toddler, so definitely need two seats. I feel like I'm over thinking our options, so won't bore you with the details.

Tiredness has come back with a vengence, I'm so knackered all the time!

I'm also getting impatient to meet these little people and get twinmageddon started.

Happy new year everyone

ParsonsPig · 04/01/2014 20:23

Happy New Year everyone!! I completely second earlier posts about how much closer it all seems now we are in Jan 2014!!

Can I ask a REALLY stupid question? My DH and I have bought a SnuzPod co-sleeper crib thingy and one of the selling points is that it can be removed from it's base and taken downstairs (I suppose like any Moses basket can). I don't get how you would do this with a baby though, as you have to carry the crib/basket empty. Where do you put the baby if you are carrying the basket and are on your own? Am I completely stupid??!! I'm beginning to panic about my lack of knowledge about babies and common sense.

LeeHandy · 04/01/2014 22:15

glad to know everything went ok Vikki, I think I would not have been able to cope with moving to a new country at this stage.
we did a lot of baby shopping today! Ordered the car seat and stroller and am sure quite pleased with the deal we got.
we also went round to ikea to buy a cot and some other stuff to decorate the nursery. DH had a lot of fun playing with the stuffed toys that neither of us had ever paid attention to before. we ended up buying two!Blush
welcome newbies!
I need to look up Braxton hicks, I thought they were false contractions? isn't it still early to be getting them?

jen2014 · 04/01/2014 22:27

parsonspig I would suggest leaving the baby in the middle of your (double) bed while you carry the crib downstairs then come back for the baby. You can only do this until they're about 4 months old or whenever they start to roll. After that (if you're still bringing the crib downstairs) maybe put them in a swing seat or playnest or something while you fetch the crib.
I haven't felt anything like Braxton hicks although I have heard that apparently you have them throughout your pregnancy, it's just some women can feel them and some can't.

patsy375 · 04/01/2014 23:18

lee I've had braxton hicks or tightnings from really early on. Probably 15 weeks or so.
Think the more babies you have the more likely you are to get them and from very early on. This being my 4th probably explains why I've had the pleasure of them so much this time!

prettyinpink90 · 05/01/2014 12:55

Is anyone else experiencing any lightheadedness / dizziness? I have for the past few days. I have been eating plenty and upped my fluid intake to see whether that helps. Is this something I should be worried about? I see my midwife on Wednesday so will mention it to her then too.

patsy375 · 05/01/2014 18:45

Hey pretty how's things?

Made any pink purchases yet? I've had to make myself stop as its getting way out of hand!
Being light headed and dizzy can just be another one of the many joys of pregnancy but it can also be a sign of low blood pressure or anaemia so def worth mentioning to your mw x

Vikkijayne2507 · 05/01/2014 19:20

ive been getting tightening on and off since 20 weeks but yesterday it was crazy the amount I got in a short space of time. today ive had a couple and its always in the evenings when i notice him kicking me more. not painful but can be really unfortable and doesnt help needing the loo more and more.

26 + 3

prettyinpink90 · 05/01/2014 22:23

Thanks patsy, I will mention it to my MW on Wednesday. My first blood tests showed I was slightly anaemic so may be worth checking that again.
I've also gone a tad overboard with buying things (mostly pink and girly)... I hope she isn't a he after all. We have a 4D scan booked for two weeks time so will ask the sonographer to double check. Is this your first too?

25+2

Oli30 · 05/01/2014 22:49

Hi lovely ladies, I'm a bit late, but please can I join your thread? I'm 25+2 (due on 18th April) with a DD, and have one DS whose 3rd birthday will be on 27th April, so I'm hoping it's not going to happen on his birthday.

Everything seems to be going pretty smoothly so far. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks over the Easter weekend last year, so I'm hoping for better luck this time round.

I have a Bugaboo Bee which I love and has done DS really well. We also have a buggy board and a twin buggy because we do a nanny share, so very happy to answer any questions about transport logistics as we looked into every possible option!

Back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off which is going to be a shock to the system!

LeeHandy · 05/01/2014 23:22

welcome Oli!
the learning curve on having a baby is just astounding. Grin I can't think how we are allowed to have them without any sort of training. Hmm
I read about Braxton hicks and I think I would not have realised it even if I have had them. my s-i-l gave me a nursing pillow today. I had never heard or imagined of such a thing before!

prettyinpink90 · 06/01/2014 01:17

We have the same due date!

patsy375 · 06/01/2014 08:48

Sounds bloody scary when I say it out loud lol.

Vikkijayne2507 · 06/01/2014 11:48

hello oli welcome im on my first so everything new over here starting to think I need to get more clothes I can imagine having to change baby a lot of times in a day and ive only got a few clothes. ive had a very active baby yesterday and night before and even this morning he's awake I have had lots of tightenings that don't hurt im hoping it's just uterus excising itself and not gearing up anytime soon for the main event. 26 + 5 wks

Welcome Kat and oli Grin

ChurrosConChocolate · 06/01/2014 16:10

Hi kat and oli

parsons you might find you don't move the crib around that much. I used to use a moses basket upstairs and put DS in his carrycot in his pram when downstairs. Otherwise, just stick him on a mat on the floor or in a bouncy chair or something while you move the crib.

vikki you will get heaps of clothes as pressies when the baby arrives though! And they grow out of them very quickly so don't get too much. Just make sure you have the basics like vests and sleepsuits as you normally don't get these so much as pressies!

Had a session with a hypnobirthing lady yesterday which was great and has given me lots to think about. Really don't want to give birth on a labour ward though, going to ask (beg!) my consultant for alternatives at my next appointment... Hypnobirthing lady was talking about finding a place where you feel safe and secure to give birth and that is definitely not the labour ward after the shitty experience I had there last time.
