You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

Sugarmice - I think it's only if it's more long term sickness that they can make you take mat leave early so I wouldn't worry about that. X

EeyoreIsh · 07/12/2013 07:01

sassy, glad you're feeling better. sugar, I hope you get better soon.

Awake really early again. Wolfed down a bowl of porridge and still hungry!

Day 2 of NCT today. Day 1 went ok, after a mini freak out at seeing the picture (not even a photo!) of the baby/womb at term. It's slowly dawning on me that this baby has to come out somehow!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 07/12/2013 07:30

Thanks Sassy, in that case I may have to call in sick, I imagine I will barely even be able to function by the time I get home.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 07/12/2013 07:32

Hope you're feeling better soon too Sassy.

misskatamari · 07/12/2013 08:17

Sassy I hope you're feeling better now and that it was just a one off. Sugar - hope you manage to call in sick and have a day resting!

First NCT day for us Eeyore (2nd tomorrow so DH is not looking forward to this weekend!). I hope it's good and that the people are nice. Don't know how much baby stuff they can talk about that it takes alllllll day but I'm sure we'll learn loads. Hoping it finishes a bit early as I want to go and look at carpets and also saw a vax carpet cleaner in b+m yesterday for about 60 quid which is half price and I stupidly didn't buy it. I may be getting a bit obsessed with having clean carpets now! Grin

Hope you all have lovely Saturdays planned x

sunflowered · 07/12/2013 08:41

Sassy and sugarmice hope you're both ok this morning.

In a break from house renovation and yet more work, today I'm going to see Jude Law at the theatre Grin As a friend scarily pointed out yesterday, I'm not going to be able to do that again for quite a while without a babysitter and an awful lot of faff.

sunflowered · 07/12/2013 08:44

Argh posted too soon... Meant to add that that was another 'aaaaargh having a real baby' moment yesterday.

Hope you all have good weekends coming up Smile

winterflowers · 07/12/2013 09:38

Enjoy the nct classed those who have them! I don't start mine till the new year, but then they are twice a week for a while. Ending at half nine how on earth will I still be awake enough to concentrate? !?

Hope you feel better soon sassy and sugar. &sugar* I had an abysmal cold for a while and finally cracked so got antibiotics from the dr. Still took a while.to clear but would recommend doing if you keep feeling bad, our immune systems are a bit pants these days so harder to shift things.

Am going to buy a new laptop today woohoo and not think abiut the miions or baby stuff I need im screwed if she comes early

Sassy20 · 07/12/2013 09:40

Thanks everyone. Feeling less sick today but headachey and tired. Luckily I'm heading to my parents as dh working so they'll be able to look after dd while I head to bed for a bit. Nothing better than being looked after by parents when you're not well. Hope everyone else ok. X

jazzcat28 · 07/12/2013 12:06

Oooh jealous of the NCT classes this weekend. Ours don't start until January. Let us know how it goes!

Had a minor panic today as have numbness in my left hand and slight swelling in my right hand. Text my friend who is a nurse and had swelling in her last pregnancy who reckons it's nothing to worry about but of course Dr Google had me convinced otherwise! Legs and ankles all normal it's just the hands so think it might be carpal tunnel again (though I usually only get that in bed).

After not really feeling much in the way of movements, am now feeling all sorts! It's lovely but annoying during the 3-6am window when apparently it's THE time for a party in womb-land. Think I could work out two bulges which must be bum and head but confused about position - larger bulge (head?) was bottom left quarter of bump, smaller bulge (bum?) was at the top under my ribs and kicks/wiggles were felt around fanjo area. So perhaps it's trying to manouver into head down position but lying across me somehow? Can only make all this out after about 10 mins of lying on my back though, no idea when I'm sat on sofa/walking around.

Hope everyone is having lovely weekends so far

30wks tomorrow for me! Xmas Grin

CubanoHabana · 07/12/2013 17:06

Jazz I am the same with movement, since yesterday baby has been going mad in there! I'm 29 weeks tomorrow.

Had whopping cough jab today, didn't hurray all but I've spent most of the day asleep! To be fair, we had works Christmas night out last night and I think I was just exhausted from that... Although I got told several times that I was glowing last night, which was a nice change from being told I look exhausted!

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 07/12/2013 17:20

We had a nice day planned but got within 5 mins of destination and poor little DS threw up all over himself so we had to come home quickly and clean everything thoroughly. Taking a car seat covered in sick apart is not fun.

He's been okay since so really hoping it was a freak one off. He's not a sicky child so it was a bit of a surprise!! Really hoping we haven't got a sick bug in the house!!

misskatamari · 07/12/2013 18:43

Sassy I hope you're feeling better after some rest at your parents. I hope ds is okay too Lastnight!

Our nct class was really good. Everyone seemed really friendly as down to earth and we learnt about lots of things. None of which I can remember now as I think my brain is overloaded! Another one tomorrow so it's quite a full on weekend. We did manage to leg it to carpet right afterwards and sort out measuring up on Monday with the hopes of getting a carpet fitted before Christmas. I think the bump helped Smile

32 weeks today - eeeeek it's starting to feel quite real!

sunflowered · 07/12/2013 19:33

Glad the class went well misskat - you've just prompted me to try to take a notebook when our classes start in the new year! (need to add that to my list of reminders, brain is like a sieve these days...) And well done on the new carpet - there has to be a small consolation prize for all the stress your house has put you through in the last few weeks Smile

Mentioned to a lady in a shop today that I'm going on mat leave in 6 weeks. She raised her eyebrows and said I didn't look pregnant... (see bump pics for proof that I'm already the size of a small house!!) And there I was thinking I didn't need to fish out the baby on board badge today. Bumps are funny things - I thought it would be so obvious to everyone from about 12 weeks!

EeyoreIsh · 07/12/2013 21:05

missk are you my double one day ahead?! We have nct tmw, then carpet right and I'm 32 weeks tmw!

my nct class has been good. Lots of emphasis on the making friends bit, which is a bit forced. It's been really good to think lots of things through. Today we were practising labour positions, which was quite amusing, and quite weird. funny to think we'll be needing this knowledge soon! The thing I've found a bit frustrating is the whilst the trainer is good, she just doesn't have the knowledge of a midwife. So I've got lots of extra questions now. I'd recommend to others talking a notebook, as missk said, there's lots to take on board.

We've got a 3 hour breast feeding workshop tomorrow. I'm not sure what we'll talk about for 3 hours!

misskatamari · 07/12/2013 21:20

Lol Eeyore that is weird! Grin Our breast feeding one is in Monday night and I don't know how there can be so much to cover about breast feeding either. Apparently there will be dolls Shock! They've told us they don't cover bottle or mixed feeding at it either but our nct lady said she'd do that with us tomorrow.

Oooh we got to have a go with a tens machine today - was so weird. Has anyone who's already had babies used one in labour? Considering buying/hiring one and it would be good to know if people have found them useful.

We get to change nappies tomorrow too woo hoo! Smile

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 07/12/2013 21:32

Yes misskat I used tens with DS labour and will definitely be hiring one again (tesco do them) this time. It made a HUGE difference to me. I just had the tens machine and gas and air.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 07/12/2013 21:33

Meant to add, it feels weird when you're not in pain but when you are it really takes the edge off.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 07/12/2013 21:34

Eeyoreish I went on a weekend breast feeding workshop when gp with DS. One if the best things I did to prepare for DS, even better than one to one hypnobirthing course.

There is so much to talk about, 3 hours will whizz by Grin

misskatamari · 07/12/2013 21:40

Thanks Lastnight Smile I think I will definitely try and get hold of one then. It did feel quite weird - we tried them in our arms - but I can imagine it helping when on your back in labour.

notoneforselfies · 07/12/2013 21:47

What does the tens machine do/feel like?

EeyoreIsh · 07/12/2013 21:54

I think I'm just a bit nervous about breastfeeding, so I think I might feel more pressure after 3 hours discussing it. I really want to breastfeed but I think I've heard too many horror stories! Hopefully the session tomorrow will be really positive.

I've got a tens machine that I've used before for sciatica and period pain. I found it really works for period pain, so I'm hoping it does in labour too.

I went out tonight, first time in ages! Was home by 9 but it was still lovely to be in a pub with friends.

EeyoreIsh · 07/12/2013 21:56

notone it feels like strong tingles. The idea is that it blocks the pain signals. The lady today said not everyone would find it works, but some do.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 08/12/2013 06:59

Eeyoreish - if the course is done properly there shouldn't be any pressure at all and you should come out feeling reassured and motivated Smile

Re tens, if you use it when not in pain it feels like strong tingling but when in pain it's hard to describe - it just takes the edge off somehow.....

jazzcat28 · 08/12/2013 08:28

I have been fortunate enough to be loaned a TENS machine from friends - it's quite sweet actually, they were the first couple in our gang of friends to have a baby so bought the machine. Since then it has been loaned around the gang and once I've used it, it will have helped 7 labours. Haven't given it a go yet though, saving that joy for mat leave!

misskat glad yesterday's class went well, hope today's is just as useful.

We are putting our Christmas tree up today - yay!
