You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

Thanks all! I am refusing to get excited about this one though, till we're in! marzi no can do I'm afraid, all the agents have is a photo of the outside front, which looks like some kind of borstal due to the spikey thing on the wall of the nursery/community centre next door.

I got my hair cut today, then did a little light shopping, bought some disposable, cheap nighties and some maternity pads and then came home. I am exhausted. I am wrapped up like a little old lady, with my first hot water bottle of the season, demanding nursery food from my DH.

That is all just a precursor to say to all you ladies who are still working, ohmigod, how the hell do you do it? I was quite chipper till a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm just knackered! I stand (slump) in awe of your abilities to work, think, be productive, raise children! and generally not collapse.

Littleen · 05/12/2013 20:15

Eeyeore My other half was talking about carpeted flooring as well, but I absolutely cannot stand it (unhygienic in my experience, but then again I am very clumsy and messy) so I refused, on the promise that we will have lovely lush rugs down :) Sheepskin on the side of the bed anyone? So soft and warm on the toes in the morning!

tinypolkadot thank you for the good luck! Don't think too much about which size she got you - my mum always used to get me way too big clothes, so she obv thought I was chunkier than I was! Probably just mindless buying, not intentional :) (hopefully)

notoneforselfies · 05/12/2013 20:28

would have liked to have had floorboards upstairs for style reasons (we have them downstairs) but they were in too bad a condition up there to contemplate leaving uncovered, and laying down hardwood flooring over the top was a tad beyond our budget! (to put it mildly!) Didn't want laminate floor in the bedrooms... As we don't have shoes upstairs and clean the carpets regularly too it's not too unhygienic I hope! Hmm Will be friendly on crawling knees and hands too Grin

notoneforselfies · 05/12/2013 20:29

I put sheepskin on top of the carpet too - I am spoilt Grin

jazzcat28 · 05/12/2013 20:36

Ooh where did you get your cheap nighties from gnitting? I need one for labour (already got my nice comfy post-birth one sorted).

Wishing all of you moving/buying houses good luck and stress free vibes. I wouldn't want to move again in a hurry especially close to Xmas and being pregnant!

I naively think that I might be able to decorate our hall stairs and landing whilst I'm off on mat leave (baby sleeps right?!) and want a stripey carpet for stairs and landing. It's currently plain dark navy which shows up every speck of dirt. We shall see how parenthood treats me first....

Those of you travelling to relatives over Xmas and new year, are you taking a hospital bag? I will be 33 ish wks and not sure? Will definitely take my notes but perhaps full on hospital bag is a little bit premature?

EeyoreIsh · 05/12/2013 20:40

jazz my midwife told me to take the bag when I go home for Xmas... it gives me a deadline to have sorted one by!

I have 6 mini pork pies to get me through my nct weekend Grin

jazzcat28 · 05/12/2013 20:48

Oh gosh eeyore if that's the case I need to get my stuff sorted! How many weeks will you be?

Thingymajigs · 05/12/2013 20:52

DP has announced that he's staying over at his friends house on Saturday night and he's going to a work do the weekend after and staying at his mum's that night. I'm a bit annoyed. There's nothing wrong with him going out, he rarely ever gets the chance so he should but its made me cross. I just feel helpless, vulnerable, fat and stuck here with the kids. I'm being ridiculously hormonal aren't I?

EeyoreIsh · 05/12/2013 20:53

I'm 31+4 today jazz. She thought I should have bag ready already... I would say she talks rubbish but she did tell me to eat more cake so clearly she is full of good advice Grin

Thisisfreakingmeout · 05/12/2013 20:55

Help me out pregos. MIL asked if I have any stretchmarks. When I said no she actually lifted my top to check if this is true. Then said "wait wait I think I can see one!" And pointed and laughed. (It is a vein, bitch).

I am so furious she would be this insensitive. I am sure it will happen, I'm not stupid, but I will certainly not discuss it in a room full of in laws when it does.

Sorry for venting but as she is someone who takes offence easily she was pretty ridiculous. I don't think it takes a genius to consider it might be a time when I have some body issues.

My blood is boiling!

notoneforselfies · 05/12/2013 21:07

Oh my god thisis, Shock how the hell did you not slap her? That's a bloody ridiculously an obviously awful thing to do! I'd have pulled up her top and passed comment on the state of her belly. Then slapped her. You're totally right to be furious. Did you say anything, or too shocked?

EeyoreIsh · 05/12/2013 21:10

That is totally out of order thisis Shock I think I would have slapped her, cried or pulled up her top. She's crossed a line. Can you have a word when you've calmed down?

Thisisfreakingmeout · 05/12/2013 21:21

I am regretting that I was too shocked to say anything. If there are anymore overly personal remarks I will certainly be ready next time. Thanks for the support dears. X

Thingymajigs · 05/12/2013 21:21

That is outrageous thatis. I don't think I'd ever bother visiting her again if my MIL did that to me. That's a line that no one crosses.

Thingymajigs · 05/12/2013 21:21

thisis, even.

camwombat · 05/12/2013 21:33

jazz last time I got the cheapest nighties primary sold, I think it was a pack of two for £3. So I could change if needed. I also bought cheap pants from there, that I could throw away too.

thisis thats totally out of order and a real invasion of you. I too would be blood boiling. and I've got new stretchmarks on my old ones

Err I am literally only planning on taking my notes if we go anywhere. If I take the bag, we'll have to take the car seat too...

Taking cushions to your nct classes? gosh thats a new one on me. Birth balls if you don't have one I recommend I used mine loads in late pregnancy and it saved many an uncomfortable evening.

Good luck with the house moves and the decorating....

notoneforselfies · 05/12/2013 21:38

I'll definitely be taking my bag and the car seat when we go away from Christmas. It's 2.5 hours away and I'll be 34+ weeks. A few of my friends have gone into labour or had hospital stays at this stage so it's too much in my consciousness for me to be parted with it at that stage! It's such a remote chance I'd ever need it but I shall be comforted by it being stashed in the boot!

Unplastered · 05/12/2013 21:42

Thisis, I would be seriously peed off by that. As others have said there's a line between joking and invasion of privacy and she's crossed it. Will your OH have a word in your behalf?
And actually stretch marks are not inevitable. I still don't have any (only teeny tiny silver ones on my hips that I've had for ever), even after 9lb 1oz DD.

DH has just got home to find me in my PJ's eating a bowl of sprouts and mayonnaise. I hadn't even thought it might be a bit of an of combination til I saw his the look on his face.
I really must start eating normal meals :-/ is anyone else finding they want to eat odd things?

Littleen · 05/12/2013 22:22

notone good you don't have shoes upstairs - I don't get the thing about shoes indoors everywhere!
thisis what a horrible midwife :o I've got tons of stretchmarks but it's not her place to comment on! Mind I have a scar from operation that now has morphed in to a harry potter scar O.o

tinypolkadot · 05/12/2013 22:26

Wow thisis I can't believe it! What an invasion of privacy. I would have been too stunned to react as well.

Sprouts and mayonnaise unplastered?! I like mayonnaise on most things, but that might be a step too far Grin I've just polished off tinned pears and chocolate ice cream, contemplating a second bowl.

gnittinggnome · 05/12/2013 22:44

jazz not quite in Primark's league, but I got two of these from M&S, it was buy one get one half price, so around 18 for both. Very lightweight, buttons all the way down for ease of bf, not too pretty so I won't get upset if they get knackered and at least a size too big for me for comfort.

thisis wow, that's just plain rude. It's amazing how otherwise delicate flowers can be so darn insensitive!

unplastered In my bid for tasty food, with fibre to counteract my iron pills, I've given myself a two-day long bout of the squits. The very notion of sprouts, with anything, is utterly beyond me! I have been craving oranges though. And going through lots of dental floss as a result.

sunflowered · 06/12/2013 04:23

thisis I'm Shock . What is it about pregnancy that makes people think that sort of thing's ok?!

Hope everything goes smoothly with the house gnitting. I've got a friend whose baby sleeps best when very it's cold and wrapped in a thick snowsuit (pref outside) so the double glazing thing might be a blessing in disguise!

I've also picked up an m&s maternity nightie this week (staying with pil over new yr and don't think current approach of pants and dressing gown will go down too well Blush ). it looks fine, apart from that it would also look fine on an 80 yo lady. Would it cost them that much more to add in a bit of style?! Saw the one you linked to gnitting but wasn't sure if it was a maternity one so went with granny chic to be safe.

Currently awake with killer heartburn. Wondering if it"s got to the point where I miggt as well just get up and get some work done so I can finish a bit earlier today Sad Dh has manflu and is mouth breathing extremely loudly beside me. Have just had to remove him from my pillow and back onto his own side of the bed as bump was in danger of being pushed over the edge of the mattress and taking me with it. Hope I get a nice midwife for appt today or I might explode if she tells me I'm looking blooming with bags under my eyes, puffy skin, a distinct waddle, and a bump that's starting to take over the world

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 06/12/2013 06:37

We live in an Edwardian house with original single glazed sash windows and original doors. It's absolutely fine Grin
