Thanks, Rock, for the pram recommendation and I love your response to DH's mum. Brilliant. I've been thinking about your hips today when I was waiting for my physio. I do hope it was just a blip x

CookieMonster1971 · 15/11/2013 17:43

Rock, is the Babystyle Oyster not just for toddlers?

OwlinaTree · 15/11/2013 18:02

Hi guys, posting as I read here.

Lolling at the wooden toys! My sis had all wooden toys for my niece! I think the key is not to have too much out at once as the child gets overwhelmed. I'm planning to have a toy box which will go into the under stairs cupboard at bed time. Then rotate the toys and try to use the toy library if possible. They won't be all wooden tho.

hot I agree with you re DH job. Mine changed jobs in Jan as he ended up spending 3 or 4 days a week away, staying over night. He just got to the point where he didn't want to be away all the time.

Are you planning to return to work at all? Would that help him worry less about the money side?

cookie I'm as in the dark as anyone re routines, but I plan to take the bits I like of all the ideas!

Magpieblue · 15/11/2013 18:06

Panto I really feel for you. Hard as it sounds if you don't have this type of personality (I don't particularly), but you need to set boundaries and your DP needs to back you up, preferably before the baby is born. They really do sound like imperious wankers (Grin at cookie). I really hope you can move out soon. I couldn't cope with that, but I'm sure you'll manage to find a way - just smile and nod and imagine their sex faces.

Thanks for pram advice. rock yes the width is what's putting me off, though it does have better features than the Bugaboo imo, and is lots cheaper. Aargh, I can't decide.

BWP It was me, thanks - you have a v good memory. I haven't discussed it with my mw yet but I will. I too appreciate your thoughtful posts. And laughing at getting cot out of skip - good work!

Mummy Love the names, but have to admit I've always found Rory a bit hard to say (slight speech impediment)

HotCrossPun · 15/11/2013 18:18

Owl Does he still have to work away? I have my own business so work from home. It's not really stable income at the moment though so DP does pay all the bills. Hopefully when it picks up and I can start paying for some things he won't feel the need to work so hard.

I am going to a nearly new sale tomorrow. I can't wait. We haven't bought anything at all for the baby so far so I'm hoping I can get some bargains!

What is everybody doing this weekend? When are you off on your dirty weekend foxy?

Claxon DP has just phoned to say that he is bringing home mince pies and we are definitely, 100%, no excuses, no ifs no buts no coconuts - putting up the Christmas Tree tonight. He's been saying this for a week. If it goes up tonight then I might wap out the bio oil and give him one of those posh wanks that cookie's fella gets Grin

CookieMonster1971 · 15/11/2013 18:57

yes the width is what's putting me off Bet you never thought you'd hear yourself saying that, Magpie

I've had to knock the BioOil wanks on the head since no longer defrauding DWP moving Sad

BadlyWrittenPoem · 15/11/2013 19:53

Panto, I hope your BF's family have other redeeming features as they sound awful from what you've just described!

Pantomime · 15/11/2013 19:56

Thanks for the support guys, I am hoping everything will be ok. My DP knows how bad she can be and has reassured me that she can dish out grief but she can't take it. Lucky for me she is more interested in the baby her daughter is having in January than mine so I am hoping baby and I can just get on with our lives.

It is just a shame that my DP will not be getting any paternity leave because he hasn't been working in his new job long enough.

MummyPig24 · 15/11/2013 20:00

Isn't it a little early for the Christmas tree hot?

Panto I'm sorry you are having family trouble, that's difficult.

My body feels like it's giving up today. Sore back/pelvis and my fanny feels like it's going to fall out. I'm so tired.

We haven't chosen a pram but liked the mothercare orb and baby jogger city versa.

Thanks for the opinions on names. Those are the only ones we both like.

dizhin79 · 15/11/2013 20:10

Can't remember who was asking, may even have been on old Fred, chatting about cravings, I've discovered I'm having anti-cravings. Gone off broad beans, courgette, granary bread and probably several other things!!

Anybody else??

CookieMonster1971 · 15/11/2013 20:22

Mummy, I'm sorry I ignored your request for opinions on your names. I really don't like Holly thanks to that ubiquitous simpering bitch, Holly Willoughby. I really like Rory though.

Someone please deliver me from the annual desperate celeb fest that is Children In Need.

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 20:40

I'm here Cookie! Not watching CIN as DH is playing on Skylanders.

We have been very boring this eve trying to work out our finances, sigh! Trying to fig if we can afford to get a new back door as ours is awful and letting in so much cold air/rain etc!

Prams discussion - I have a MaClaren XP stroller which I used from birth. This is lightweight and easy to put up/down and not too wide either. Have used with both of my DC and plan to use with this one, when not attempting to be an earthy mother with my carrier! Wink it might not be the most pretty looking pram but is very practical.

Other advice for prams is shop around for prices as you can sometimes get a good deal. For example when we got our pram at time it was retailing for about £150 and we got for £70 after searching online for best offer, and this was on offer at I think Kiddicare at the time.

Welcome to new members - having a blank as I type on names - sorry!

Regarding parenting techniques... we did similar things with both of our dc, but what worked for one, didn't always work for the other due to different personalities etc. I breastfed both of mine on demand and on average they fed every 3 hours once in a routine, with longer gaps through the nights as time went on. DD was a fairly good sleeper early on, whilst DS was a nightmare until about 1 and 1/2 yrs of age, despite us using same tactics with both children. Think you just have to work out as you go along what works best for each individual child, though am hoping Burpy will follow DD on the sleep front and not DS! Grin

Pantomime · 15/11/2013 20:46

We have children in need on as well. Waiting for Dp to come home with some fish and chips :).

dizhin79 Anti cravings suck. No tea, garlic or bread for me :( I think there are some other bits but I'm having a brain fail

Mummy I think Rory is very sweet! Love that name :) Holly is pretty too.

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 20:51

Mummy - I like both of those names, but do wonder if people would associate Holly with Christmas, or that presenter that Cookie really likes?! Wink

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 21:23

Wails... you've all abandon me for CIN haven't you?!

IceNoSlice · 15/11/2013 21:28

Bionic I'm watching Two Weeks Notice on ITV2 Blush

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 21:38

Oooh what's that about Ice? DH is currently hogging the tv with Skylanders game.

PainAuxRaisins · 15/11/2013 21:42

Welcome midnight. Re the prams I'm with Bionic on team Maclaren. We used the XLR from birth last time and it is still going strong so we'll use it again. Maclarens seem to be able to fit children up to the age of 4 very comfortably whereas everyone I knew that had a Bugaboo had ditched it by the time their babies were toddlers (one friend couldn't even get her 12 month old into it....but he was a big lad - 99th percentile). Only downside is they can only do forward facing. Mummypig Holly is a lovely name and Rory is too (starts humming the theme tune to "Rory The Racing Car"). Dizhin - no anti-cravings this time but eating far less chocolate than I usually do....seem to be drinking loads of orange juice instead. OJ is the nearest I have to a craving. Still in shock at Panto's MIL comments!

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 21:52

Highfives Pain for practical pram like me! Wink I still get people saying, "Oooh wouldn't you rather upgrade to a better pram etc etc" and I always say "Nope! My DC have all been comfy in this pram, and it does the job, why would I spend money on a fancy pram?!" All those I knew with travel systems soon abandoned in favour of stroller type.

CookieMonster1971 · 15/11/2013 21:57

No, Bionic, I haven't succumbed to Children Not Really In Need. I am trying not to think about the Ben & Jerrys I can't afford

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 21:58

Oooh just seen email from hosp regard upgrade to my implant. Might have it before Christmas if that slot is still available and I can get someone to have the sprogs for me. Smile

CookieMonster1971 · 15/11/2013 21:58

Is that leprechaun Wogan still being paid gazillions to host CIN? Grabbing twat.

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 21:59

I haven't had Ben & Jerry Ice-cream for years. Though did have a small spoonful of homemade Baileys ice-cream when at a friend about a month ago - mmmmh before thinking "OOPS there's alcohol in there and raw egg!"

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 22:02

No idea, as not watching it. DD school doesn't do CIN either - which people are puzzled about. Never thought about it to be honest, but wonders if it is because they run their own education charity overseas?

BionicEar · 15/11/2013 22:05

Just seen photo on BBC News website - looks like he is!
