mrsk I have got to defend the 'it's so cold and dark' grumblers. Sure, it happens every year but being cold is always unpleasant and it going dark so early always feels really unnatural. Going to work and coming home in the dark really messes with my biological clock. I don't think humans are meant to live this far north.

CookieThief · 22/11/2013 11:12

Don't go to fucking Iceland then.

FoxMulder · 22/11/2013 11:14

But where will I get my party platters of mini fish & chips?

FoxMulder · 22/11/2013 11:16

Beautiful day here too actually. I should drag myself out for a walk at lunch. Wish I wasn't so inherently lazy. I can pretend not to be lazy, but I still am.

Blockette · 22/11/2013 11:19

Haha fox I'm going to put that in my birth plan! see if it works 'DH have the baby instead of me' - I told him the other day it was his turn to have the lump on his front so I could sleep properly, but he just said no :( lol

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 11:30

Fox Don't get me wrong, I'll have a grumble in February when it's been cold, icy and raining consistently for 4 months but when the weather has only just turned, it's a bit depressing hearing all the moaning - we know we live in a country with cold winters and it happens every year so why are people so surprised to see the nights drawing in and having to get their thick costs out in October/November? It's like it's never happened before!

FoxMulder · 22/11/2013 11:30

I asked DH if he would give birth for me and he said yes. He think's it will be less trouble that way. I think he's probably right. He is calmer and with a higher pain threshold. I just need to work out the practicalities...

FoxMulder · 22/11/2013 11:32

I know what you mean mrsk. I don't mind it at this time of year. A couple of months of winter is fine! And frosty days are always lovely. I do find it depressing being dark at 4pm though, even though I knew it was coming.

dizhin79 · 22/11/2013 11:35

cookie not read it but a friend liked it.

re the season I love it, log burner going, gorgeous walks with dog, warm mega party platters with free range to eat it all!

dizhin79 · 22/11/2013 11:36

oh and weekend plans birthday curry for a friend Grin yummmmmm

CookieThief · 22/11/2013 12:05

Mrsk, I'm with you on the moaning, particularly from old people. It's not enough that, eight years on, they're still moaning about the war, they've got to whinge about the weather too. Old people get on my bloody nerves; they are the most well-off generation this country has ever - and will ever -see. I'm so glad all my grandparents are dead; it's much cheaper at Christmas and my house doesn't stink of piss.

CookieThief · 22/11/2013 12:06

*eighty years on, not eight!

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 12:07

I find it quite cosy being dark early - it means I can go home and put my PJs on straightaway and not be expected to do anything or see anyone after work!

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 12:08

My gran is still alive and she's bloody loaded! She keeps inheriting more money as well.

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 12:10

This chat has inspired me to make a stew in the slow cooker at the weekend.

FoxMulder · 22/11/2013 12:26

Hmm...I don't have any PJs. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong.

lumpylumps · 22/11/2013 12:49

I love the cold dark nights!! Only if I'm cosy inside. In fact I've just cancelled my night out tonight cos I just want to get in me pjs and snuggle.
I'm feeling sorry for myself but I've made a decision about work and I've requested a sick note for next week.

FoxMulder · 22/11/2013 13:18

I suppose it's the feeling that your day is over by 4pm that's so miserable. I love our open fire but I miss not being able to see the views from my house for 5 days at a time. It makes me feel a bit trapped. And I hate being cold. But I can't really justify heating the whole house when we're in the living room all evening.

What's your decision about work lumpy?

dizhin79 · 22/11/2013 13:30

lumpy well done - get your feet up, put the kettle next to u and bring on the jezza kyle!

our slow cooker has been in use for a month or 2 already! The glorious waft of Dinner when u come thro the door mmmmm Grin

I'm working towards not doing site visits now, too much unstable ground and lone working means my boss has lost his nerve. I'm quite pleased as it means I won't be so tired but will miss it on days like this and will no doubt become a fatty now Sad
in other news 1 of my pals is up the duff, wooo hoo won't be alone on maternity leave!

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 13:30

No chance of me thinking he day's over by 4pm - I'm rarely out of the office by 7pm...

PJs highly recommended. Although that is a loose term - vest top, baggy cardy and yoga pants counts as PJs in my world.

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 13:33

diz One of your friends is pregnant that's great news!

I have about 8 preggo friends at the moment, and my 3 or 4 un-pregnant friends have started a rival faction arranging girly holidays and nights out and so forth in protest that the rest of us are no fun anymore!

dizhin79 · 22/11/2013 13:38

Mrsk Omfg what the hell do they put in the water by you? Do you live in the land of fertility? lol!

I'm the 1st in my group of immediate friends, we're all career girls and I think I've set everyone's biological clocks ticking that bit louder! apparently lots of Oh's keep saying ' thanks a lot' to my oh, they are all now having to have 'the chat' lol!

mrsksays · 22/11/2013 14:07

diz I know it's mad! We are all bowled over by the fact that we are all expecting at the same time (and all first timers) - and it's not like any of us actually colluded on when we'd fall pregnant plus some of us are "happy accidents" ahem and some have taken up to 2 years to get pregnant.

I do feel a bit sorry for the non pregnant ones - i'm guessing it would be quite weird to suddenly "lose" a large proportion of your friends to motherhood all in one go.

We are all still hanging out but naturally the topic of conversation is sore boobs, maternity clothes and pushchairs not whether to get a villa or a hotel in Ibiza and how many festivals we're going to in the summer.

lumpylumps · 22/11/2013 14:23

I'm going off sick fox. I've been struggling on for 5 weeks, on crutches for the last 2. I've been off this week and my pelvis has been as bad as ever so I know putting work back in will only make it worse

PainAuxRaisins · 22/11/2013 14:24

Well done lumpy for making the right choice. If you can't put yourself first at this time of your life then when can you?? I too have a night out planned for tonight but feeling so knackered I might cancel too. I just want an early night. MrsK it sounds like you have your own little NCT/antenatal group already - do you all live near to each other as well or are you spread out?? Massively craving a freshly squeezed orange juice at the mo but might have to make do with just eating an orange (annoying cos I'll have peel it = too much effort Angry. In other news my natal hypnotherapy CDs just turned up from ebay. Anyone else putting themselves in a trance yet or should I just wait til 32 weeks as mentioned on the CD sleeve??
