Sorry you're having such a tough time Sanji :(

I'm glad you had some good feeds today Flyer.

I've got a cluster feeding baby and a hysterical toddler who just wants mummy cuddles :( Poor DP is getting screamed at and hit....

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/10/2013 19:48

Evenin' all. I have been following but I keep getting distracted before being able to post...

C has regained all his birthweight and at 10 days old was actually 140g up so I must be doing something right... The last BF wasn't actively unpleasant, so perhaps we are turning a corner there too hope against hope

Sorry to those of you still waiting at various states of progress. It must be very frustrating but I can't help thinking oh to put the genie back in the bottle Grin

Can I ask about timing of feeds? We're going 3 hours from start to start but having to work a bit to rouse him, particularly at night. What are you doing at night? I'm tempted to let him set the pace a bit at night and set the alarm for 4 hours rather than 3 and make sure we are sticking to 3 hours during the day. Thoughts?

legallyblond · 25/10/2013 19:59

Sanji... Huge hugs. I would ask again about Harlow if they're still being arses full...

Flyer - I'll bet you anything she's gained on Monday.... X

legallyblond · 25/10/2013 20:03

MrsHN - how old is C now? Ten days or so? Based on no science at all, I would prob keep waking him until he's three weeks, then by all means follow his lead...! But that's just because DD then the twins had a massive growth spurt at 2 / 2.5 weeks and I wouldn't have wanted supply to drop off at all. Maybe check on Kellymom.com? It's rubbish to navigate, but food advice.

OrangeBlossom2 · 25/10/2013 20:40

Sounds rubbish sanji Flowers to you and all those sfw.

I keep getting upset that the MLU was full so I had my baby labour ward on my back in bed rather than lovely birth pool I wanted but at least there was a room available somewhere for me, I should be grateful. and afterwards there was no room on post natal ward for a while but actually I liked staying those 4 extra hours in our own private delivery room while we waited.

Thomas has been twitching all over his back. He doesn't feel too cold or hot, I think he is fine, but there are so many things I don't know to be anxious about!

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/10/2013 20:43

He's 11 days legally. Feeding has been a bit erratic today with a couple of hour long disjointed sessions then a 20 minute one-sided feed. And earlier he struggled against my let down for 10 minutes on one side, having not long spent 50 minutes lazily feeding on the other...

I'll check out kellymom. Agree that the layout is rubbish! PS we must meet up - perhaps when I'm feeling a little more human...

OrangeBlossom2 · 25/10/2013 20:50

MrsH we are exactly the same waking every three hours to BF, express and cup feed. Thomas is beginning to show more hunger signals in the day now so we are feeding when he is rooting/sucking hands but also doing every three hours still and treating the others as bonus feeds, especially as he only ever feeds for 5-15 minutes at a time.

We have a hospital appointment on Sunday and plan to ask when we can cut down the frequency of night feeds, I will let you know what they say, although the fact he has never woken in the night to be fed suggests he probably does still need us setting the alarm and getting him up to feed more. Or that we are stuffing him with far too much milk and need less... I just don't know! We are probably going to turn him into a little fatty but really want him to put on all the weight he lost.

It is just exhausting and takes so long to do the whole cycle we only get 4 hours sleep in chunks over the night and still have only managed two naps since he has been born, not sure how much longer I can sustain that!

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/10/2013 21:04

That sounds exhausting orange I remember how soul destroying it was cup feeding C in hospital and watching the milk I'd carefully expressed dribble down his chin...

Fortunately, C seems to settle quite well so long as he's had enough to eat.

Flyer747 · 25/10/2013 21:12

Same here with the 4 hours sleep orange it's a killer.

Two of the ladies I attended Nct with are having a tough time, ones little boy refuses to latch. The second lady her little boy has been prescribed Ritalin Shock he is 4 weeks old, I haven't spoken to her to see why just one of the other ladies told me earlier on, isn't it medication for ADHD?!

Sanji it sounds pretty bloody awful there I hope that something gets sorted out asap it's pretty shocking.

dontworryjustpanic · 25/10/2013 21:15

Hi ladies. Have only just caught up as I've been visiting relatives today - I had been dreading it but actually it's been great (just exhausting).

SFW now at 40+2. I don't see midwife again until 41+5 - bit concerned having read posts about deterioration of placenta esp in older mums as I'm 39 but desperate to go into labour naturally this time.

Flowers to all of you struggling to establish/cope with breast feeding or persuading LO's to sleep in the moses basket. I still have all this to look forward to!

Massive hug to sanji. I had to queue for a room for my induction with DS which was frustrating enough but nothing compared to your experience

dontworryjustpanic · 25/10/2013 21:22

Ritalin for a 4-week old baby!? Yes it is used for ADHD - surely you can't diagnose that at such a young age! I'm really shocked but maybe it is used for other conditions too.

Mnippy · 25/10/2013 21:30

Just popping on to say that finally. I'm managing to keep abreast (aha!) with developments on this thread!

Breast feeding still a faff (mixed feeding does seem like the worst of both worlds) and we can't try techniques for giving up ff until a good outcome at the next weigh in. But I really want to continue and not give up on the hope that baby will learn to latch better as time goes on. He is such a fighter and struggles with each latch.

Hugs to the rebels at the back of the bus and to sanji - hope you made a fuss re getting onto the delivery ward.

Flyer747 · 25/10/2013 21:41

Mnippy I also have a fighter the arms always get in the way. Dp had to pin them down earlier on Shock

Pinkforboys · 25/10/2013 21:49

My boobs are enormous. I think I could feed all the babies on this thread tonight.

Hope you all get some sleep xx

Sanjifair · 25/10/2013 21:54

I had a complete meltdown at the poor night shift midwife who I've never met before. She said the delivery unit shut again, then she said she'd been told to start up people's inductions again, then 5 mins later was told she was the only midwife on the ward again, so it would be unwise to start up people's inductions. So goodness knows what is going

PseudoBadger · 25/10/2013 21:57

Sanji - contact PALS as soon as they are open again, aside from your immediate problem, that is horrendous (dangerous?) understaffing :(

takingachance · 25/10/2013 22:00

flyer maybe she meant ranitidine not Ritalin? I think it is an anti reflux drug Confused x

Sanjifair · 25/10/2013 22:01

Sorry posted too soon.

...on. She did reiterate that I am first in queue. However, someone else is in labour and is wailing like a banshee, despite being given pethidine and she's only 2 cm. She was in my ward, they've moved her to a side room, but you can still hear her. I expect she'll go first as she is keeping everyone awake. She clearly needs an epidural but can't have one as delivery ward still full.

I am seriously thinking I will go straight for epidural now. I am so upset and fucked off my head is in no state to cope with pain, and hearing others wailing at such an early stage is really getting me scared.

Sanjifair · 25/10/2013 22:03

smitten I would seriously consider going to your other local hospital. This is shit, seriously shit.

Flyer747 · 25/10/2013 22:24

Maybe taking I did wonder if the girl I spoke to had gotten it wrong as I was shocked at Ritalin Shock would make more sense.

Smitten1981 · 25/10/2013 22:42

Sanji - first off I would leave. You've been waiting for days, it's ridiculous. How long do they expect you to hang around for?

Also, it's unfortunate, but usually those who make the most fuss in hospitals get seen first/given private rooms to get them out of the way. I don't think I'd need any encouraging if I'd been there for days on end. They might spring into action if you say you want to discharge yourself.

Secondly, have an epidural as soon as you can. My friend was induced Monday and said that the entire birth was completely pain free and she was amazed. She said she got the best night's sleep she has had for about 5 months.

I'll remember your experience if they do suggest induction at The Rosie. No way I'm doing that now.

Sending positive thoughts your way and I really hope they pull their fingers out soon. I'm angry for you.

chickieno1 · 25/10/2013 22:43

sanji that sounds terrible. How long have you been in now? You need to tell them just not good enough. Thinking of you and hoping for a bed xx

Natalieand · 25/10/2013 23:31

Sorry to just dip in and out of convo but just wanted to offer some induction advice to sanji when I was due my second lot of induction gel I was simply told 'tough, wait till morning' and after kicking up a stink I was given it shortly after. Also the doctor wanted to use one induction method I wanted another and had to kick up about that to get what I wanted too. Its true what smitten says the more of a fuss u make the more likely things are to get done even if it feels like you are being a pain u have been more than patient. I've never known a maternity unit shut their doors as much as where u are, its quite frankly rediculous and if they carry on treating u as they are it deserves some kind of written complaint about your care. I really really hope they manage to get things up and running for u in the next 24 hours xx sending virtual hugs and moral support for u xx

rubytwosday · 26/10/2013 01:33

Nothing really to add tonight but wanted to add my support to Sanj. I think you sound like you have been very patient and good mannered so far but this is a joke! I really really hope they get their arse in gear very very soon.

kiwee · 26/10/2013 03:02

Not fully caught up but thinking of those of you still waiting on the bus - come out little babies!

mrsh - can't remember how big your C was but my mw was happy for us to go to 4 hourly overnight once my C was over 3kg (actually she did it herself at around that time but increased day feeds to 2 hourly in morning and evening to compensate)

chickie - hope you're feeling better! DH has been off most of the last 2 weeks, though worked a few half days last week. He's back for a week then off another week as PIL coming (and I can't cope with them on my own! Fortunately they're not staying with us)

In a baby brain fail went to the baby shop today and spent $80 before having to phone dh to ask what I'd actually gone there for! Turns out it was a sunhat (which is 9cm to big for her head circumference but was the smallest in the shop) - hopefully she'll grow in to it soon as did our first walk on the beach this morning with a muslin draped over the top of her carrier to provide shade!
