I have most definitely started suffering from the kicked in the foof pain! Got up this morning and took me a few minutes before I could walk!

I have a question. What do antenatal classes cover spot the ftm ? I'm being booked onto a hypnobirthing class but wondered if I need to book antenatal as well if it covers post birth. I'm intending on going to a la leache league meeting pre birth which hopefully will give some advice re feeding, but is there anything else I would miss out on?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 17/10/2013 14:38

MrsA ta for that - will check it out soon! Blackheath is lush, cannot WAIT to be able to toddle up there on mat leave and sit sipping a luxurious (decaf) coffee in PEACE!

toby sorry your DH was being a bit of a dick. WfH is a curse - mine is now 'working' (on his 'novel') from home and it drives me insane - no more sneaky sickies. Will only get worse when I am on mat leave. He CANNOT do lie-ins and will wake me at 8.30am even if I specifically say I want to sleep in. I may have to lock him downstairs for the last few weeks before bean arrives.

We are having a week of SHIT at work - but I am being annoyingly smug, because the entire shit storm is predicated on a) things that my ace colleague used to do, outside his job description, which no one realised when they let him leave (he was pissed off at being told he was not worthy of a pay rise & then being given extra work), which are now not happening, and things are seizing up - TOLD YOU, DUMBASS - and b) things I warned my boss about months ago (like cancelling our service contract for the library catalogue software, which essentially cancelled our licence to use the software, which has now crashed, taking the data with it) now coming to pass - TOLD YOU, DUMBASS.

I am quite enjoying sitting here with one raised eyebrow and saying things like 'Well, I have to confess, I did think it was only a matter of time'. Which is deeply unhelpful. Guess what - THAT'S HOW I FEEL Grin

26 working days and counting...

I have also put together (well, I say 'I', my DH in fact has done it for me) a KICKARSE presentation to put before the board tomorrow to 'update' them on my 'achievements and activities' before going on mat leave. It's a massive 'fuck you, I've been working like a bitch and here are my results ALL of which exceed expectation, oh, and I've left 6 months of my job pretty much done for my maternity cover person, BY THE WAY' to my cuntpuffin boss, and I cannot WAIT to see his reaction. Hah.

Sultanajo · 17/10/2013 14:50

purple the pram and wrap combo sounds like a plan! Fingers firmly crossed it works!

nature at the start of our nct classes we were asked what we wanted to find out so they could tailor it to our needs. However, hearing other peoples stories they seem to have pretty much the same format. I dont know what else we have to come except breast feeding and her group from last year coming to talk to us about their experiences. So far we have talked about stages of labour, drugs, birth positions. It has cemented a lot of what I had read but also has given me some useful information, such as how getting stressed affects labour and why. I have found it invaluable for DH to learn and although I didnt go with the intention of making friends, it turns out we both are which is actually really nice. Grin

humpty that "fuck u" moment is going to be amazing! I did something similar and felt very pleased with myself, particularly when I heard about some issues coming up which I wont need to deal with because I will be on mat leave! 4 weeks to go! Grin

Naturegirl82 · 17/10/2013 15:04

Thanks sultanajo sounds like all of it will be covered by my hypnobirthing class then. Puts my mind at ease.

So satisfying when you get to be smug humpty Grin

TobyLerone · 17/10/2013 15:09

Exactly my point, Sultana! I'm glad someone gets it. He got it too, eventually. He has form for this -- telling me selected info at the last minute. Usually to do with going to visit his mate or something. He'll make plans weeks in advance and then tell me the night before. It makes me furious!
So my point was that if he's started with the selective information now, this America thing isn't going to work out too well. I have visions of him planning a trip and telling me the day before. Eejit.

It would be so great if we could all get to hospital ready to push :o

Purple, I did exactly that for most of the time -- used a pushchair for DS (18 months when DD was born) and a sling for DD. It was loads easier than a double. I had a double as well, which we used occasionally, but I could rarely be arsed.

Nature, IMO we don't really need antenatal classes nowadays. We have the internet and books and we are so much better informed than we used to be. I don't remember being taught anything I didn't already know when I went before I had DC1. The main advantage is probably meeting people. And maybe your DH/DP learning a few things, if he's not the type to research for himself.

:o at you being all 'I told you so!' at work, Humpty. Cuntpuffins. They need to start appreciating you more.

I can see why working from home is a bonus from DH's POV, obviously. He's out of the house for 12 hours a day at the moment. But from my POV, much as I love him being around and much as it'll be lovely for him to spend so much time with the baby, logistically it'll be hard. He writes software, which takes concentration and peace, for the most part. Which means me struggling to keep a baby quiet while he works, or just leaving the house more!

Midwife now doesn't want to see me til 34 weeks. I was measuring 30/31 weeks today (her student measured me 3 times, then she did it twice), but she didn't seem bothered (I'm 28+4). So I see her at 34 weeks, then scan and consultant at 36 weeks, and then it'll be practically the end! Scary... Halloween Grin

BookTart · 17/10/2013 16:03

humpty they cancelled the support contract for their LMS?! Are they mental? Ours breaks if the wind blows in the wrong direction! Lovely that you get to be smug about it :)

toby when DP starts coding at home I usually have to go out, but you can't spend all your time outdoors in January! Tell him he'll have to build an office somewhere in the garden and then lock him in it Grin

Midwife appointment was fine. She measured me as 29 weeks, and I'm 28+4 so she is happy with that and I don't need any extra scans or anything. She is as confused as I am as to how I could measure okay from the outside, have a totally averagely sized baby, and still have too much fluid. They'll see me again in 3 weeks and see how it all adds up then. I am a bit anaemic though, so I'm meant to go to the GP for iron tablets. I can just take Spatone though can't I really? My GP is useless and I know the tablets will be free but I believe they bind you up. I have enough problems in that area as it is!

Is anyone booking a private scan for 30-odd weeks? I keep reading things online about it being a good idea but I suspect DP would think I was being mad again.

TobyLerone · 17/10/2013 16:13

Currently I don't mind if DH works from home, because it's easy for me to be quiet, DD is rarely here and DS is either skating or in his room doing God only knows what. But yes, I think the shed might be the way forward when the baby's here, Book :o

Also, DP/DH with similar jobs, same town, exact same due date, even midwife appointments on the same day?! Are you actually me?

No private scan here. Why is it a good idea? I haven't read anything about it, but then again I wasn't looking for info on that.
At the beginning, DH wanted to have a 3D scan. I find them creepy, but said if it mattered to him I'd happily lie there while he paid to see a picture of an alien baby :o But he's changed his mind now because he's realised I was right as usual.

Percypiglet · 17/10/2013 16:25

Hello, anyone woken up with slightly blurry vision? Got this today, just in one eye and as if everything is "out focus" and not as sharp as normal. GP doesn't seem worried but has told me to have an eye test... is it me or has anyone else heard that you shouldn't get glasses during pregnancy as eyes change during this time and may revert to normal afterwards?

BookTart · 17/10/2013 16:30

It is a bit creepy isn't it toby Confused. DP doesn't work here though, he commutes to London. If he ever had to work from home I think I'd have to move out or something - he'd drive me around the bend!

There seem to be some people who think that third trimester scans are a good idea to check everything is okay, which might help avert any problems before or during delivery. I'm not sure how useful it would be though. I'm vaguely tempted because none of the medical types seem to agree on anything to do with my pregnancy, but I'm not sure. Definitely not a 3D/4D one for me though, they are properly scary!

Can't wait to finish work now. I've lost all interest in it and would rather not bother Grin Roll on December!

BookTart · 17/10/2013 16:31

percy my midwife asked me about blurry vision this morning, and said if I had it I was to call them straight away. Might be worth calling your midwife to check maybe?

TobyLerone · 17/10/2013 16:50

Obviously my DH works in London, too. It wouldn't be so creepily coincidental otherwise, would it?!

I haven't even heard of blurry vision being A Thing, Percy. I'd do as Book says.

Percypiglet · 17/10/2013 16:59

Hi Book, thanks for advice. I spoke to midwives this morning, telephone assessed me for what I assume are preeclampsia symptoms (swelling, pain in abdomen, headache, lack of baby movements) but only got this blur in one eye so they told me to go to GP. Seems to be a bit better this pm. I am knackered though so maybe just need a good old sleep.....! Baby is definitely active today though!

Sultanajo · 17/10/2013 17:06

I have a feeling visual disturbances can be linked with pre eclampsia, but would have thought that was both eyes rather than just one. Would defo check with midwife.

Ekkkk toby its not long now! DH does things similar to yours except he wont know the details himself. So he will say his mate is coming over at the, weekend and when I ask for any details such as what time he is coming he wont know. In fact he usually will sort it around an hour before they arrive. It drives me nuts!!! I feel in limbo all of that day until I finally know the plan.... Will be interesting if he carries on doing that when bubs is here.

Cant remember who asked, but I actually have a private scan booked on Monday. I am 30 weeks tomorrow. The reason I booked it is purely to put my mind at rest after they said his abdomen was off the scale large at 20 weeks. They havent bothered investigating further and I just need to know if there is anything abnormal going on. Hopefully all is well and I will just get to see bubs one last time before he makes an appearance in a few weeks! Grin

Just had flu jab and whooping cough (which comes comboned with tetanus, diptheria and polio I think). The nurse said between 2011 & 2012 there were 12 deaths from whooping cough in babies under 2 months, but since they started offering the whooping cough to mums after 28 weeks there have been none! Grin I asked her to put both jabs in my left arm, but its now aching already and have now realised I sleep on that arm and change gear with it when driving, so didnt think it all the way thru! Doh! Blush

TobyLerone · 17/10/2013 17:16

Oooh, that's worth thinking about, Sultana. I've got my jabs and blood tests next Friday. I don't know if I'll need to do much driving, but I'll definitely need to do some to pick DH up from the station, so I might ask for them in my right arm. I always have blood taken from that arm anyway because that's the one with the good vein :o

MrsVDB · 17/10/2013 18:44

I've got a private 3d/4d scan tomorrow. Agree they are mostly scary but I've seen a few good pictures from other people. Not getting my hopes up incase it is just a scary plasticine baby that we see. Only £59 and can go on my lunch break so nothing to lose.

I ran for my train after not having done more than a slow walk for months and felt like my insides were going to fall out! Heavy baby bumping on cervix I assume? Anyone else had this

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 17/10/2013 18:45

Thanks sultana and toby, we can but hope the plan works! I just can't get my head around having a baby to take care of as well as DD. She is such a headstrong little monkey, the thought of managing TWO of them... Argh, I clearly haven't thought this through have I?!

Percy Ive had blurry vision too (wear glasses all the time anyway) although I think mine has been more ocular migraine related - wiggly lines and tunnel vision, lasts anywhere from half hour to an hour. Sounds like yours was pretty constant though? I think your eyes can be affected during pregnancy (like everything else!!) so I suppose as long as you're aware of other pre-eclampsia symptoms you can keep an eye on it. (no bad pun intended I promise.) I often get blurry eyes when I'm tired too, so I'm sure a good nights sleep will help Smile

I'm having the 30 week Doppler scan too, it's optional but I don't pay personally so thought I might as well. I have it booked for three weeks time, and will be doing the dreaded glucose test too. Why can't they just give out Lucozade or Dr Pepper?!

TarkaTheOtter · 17/10/2013 19:15

only they used to use lucozade at my hospital for the gtt (and asked us to bring our own Hmm) but apparent there are now too many varieties with different glucose loads and it's a pain to recalculate how much is needed to do the test each time.
My friend had a baby yesterday an I survived 24hrs looking after her toddler as well as mine but feeling pretty exhausted. Glad I'll get to practice with an (immobile) newborn and toddler before ending up with two toddlers of my own.
I told dd that there was a baby in my tummy and showed her my bump. She just said "no" angrily and pulled my top back down. She's only 20months so hoping she still has no idea what I am talking about!

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 17/10/2013 19:44

Oh Tarka, I could easily do as much Lucozade as they needed me to drink! Why must it be the terrible orange gak?! Glad you survived your ordeal by the way! Grin

When my pregnant friend took her toddler daughter to a birthday party, a newborn was being passed round for snuggles which she duly accepted. Her toddler immediately ran up saying, 'No, no baby! No mummy. Bye bye, baby!' I'm waiting to see how that pans out! Fortunately my own DD is nearly 3, and is more excited than us I think at the prospect of a baby joining the family. Apparently she is going to look after her by, 'changing her clothes and changing her hair.' Hmm..

AnotherStitchInTime · 17/10/2013 19:51

purple I have used a single buggy, sling, buggy board combo successfully for dd1 and dd2. Dd1 was 2.8 when dd2 was born so didn't often go in the buggy.

Tarka dd2 is the same age and doesn't have a clue. I have tried reading stories about mummies having babies to her, but she shows no awareness. She does show an interest in sharing toys at playgroups with little babies though, so I will have to watch her like a hawk when dc3 arrives.

TobyLerone · 17/10/2013 20:17

DS was 18 months old when DD was born, and while I was pregnant, 2 of our friends had babies. We took him to see them, in the hope he'd get used to them a bit. He was absolutely terrified of them, to the point where he'd scream hysterically as soon as he saw them. The first time he saw the first baby, it was sleeping in its car seat, completely still and silent. DS clocked it and went insane Confused
When DD was born, he was afraid of her for about 2 weeks. In the delivery room, when my in-laws brought him in to meet DD, he cried and said it hurt him to touch her :o

MrsAVB · 17/10/2013 20:29

The hypnobirthing tracks on shuffle is made worse by the fact that one of the women sounds like driving Miss Daisy, and the other like a welsh phone sex line (not that I've ever called one, obviously).
I would hate it if DH worked from home... Especially if he was writing a novel Envy.
re. scans - my hospital does a third scan as standard at 32 weeks... I think because they do lots of extra research, but it will hopefully be a nice chance to see baby again!

flyawayblue · 17/10/2013 21:17

My hospital also does a 32 week scan so looking forward to seeing her again :)

I'm 27 weeks now and really feeling it, everyone's saying I look huge now and I'm feeling kicks all the time.

I've been looking at the Moby sling too so glad to hear the good comments. I've been thinking of wearing it round the house and also as we're on the third floor maybe for quick trips out. might be a fantasy but that's the idea!

space it's lovely to see you and please know you are all in my thoughts.

Sultanajo · 18/10/2013 00:26

mrsv omg yes! I ran across the road the other day and had exactly that feeling! Wont be repeating it in a hurry thats for sure!!! Grin

MrsVDB · 18/10/2013 06:57

sultana glad it's not just me, thought I was going to end up on embarrassing bodies with my insides by my knees! Must remember to squeeze

extracrunchy · 18/10/2013 08:15

Ha! Wait till AFTERWARDS and you attempt a trampoline for the first time with your toddler. Now that's interesting...
