I've just spent ages on the Nappy Lady website! I'm thinking that I'll use disposables for the first few weeks, then switch to reusables.

I'm getting a Moby wrap, I think. They seem to be well-reviewed and look easy enough to use with a bit of practice and help from YouTube videos!

I'm totally having a small Baileys at Christmas. I've had one glass of wine and one half-pint of shandy so far and I don't miss it that much, but I've just opened a bottle of wine to go in the casserole for dinner, so I might have a small glass of that later.

I hate to moan to my midwife about all of my tiny ailments as she puts them all down in my notes and it makes me feel like a right hypochondriac! I'm seeing her on Thursday so I might ask about the pelvis thing and the arms thing. Then again I might just suck it up.

Sultanajo · 15/10/2013 16:41

frizz good luck for your DH tomorrow! Great to hear he is cracking on with decorating the nursery! That's really positive!

I am the opposite of hungry - I can barely manage a child's portion currently and feeling constantly full up after brekkie! However, I may make an exception for Toby's dinner - it sounds LUSH!

Book being kicked in the bladder and rectum - that was me yesterday! The weirdest feeling ever!!! Grin I had the "are you sure it's not twins" comment today. Well, the sonographers have been completely shite up to this point if it is as none of them have picked up a second baby in there! Wink

Sling wise, I was considering the Caboo DX - which looks like a comfy wrap type sling, but with the benefit of not having to tie it up each time.

another and extra OMG! Had some weird dreams - but no freaky baby ones so far! The grabbing of the hand is a tad scary!!!

Toby you are lucky your MW writes things down. I mention things to my MW and they don't get a mention anywhere....!

I am slowly coming round to the idea of using a combination of disposable and re-usable nappies. My mate showed me her ones - I think they were Bum Genius - and they actually looked really easy to use. They come in really funky colours too! DH isn't convinced however....

Off to the third NCT class tonight! Only four more after this one - it's flying by!!! OMG!

Spacefrog35 · 15/10/2013 16:54

Hi ladies. Hope you don't mind me 'lurking'.

I just wanted to say thanks for all your kind words. It has helped no end over the last few days. The love & support we've received from friends, family & total strangers is almost overwhelming!

Thank you to whoever dug out the links for Trevor Mann & Ronald McDonald as well. That's exactly what we have been asking people to give to so well anticipated.

Thanks to you all x

MrsAVB · 15/10/2013 17:25

space thank you for popping in, even though we've gone back to talking about normal preggo melodramas, I think of you and your family often and wish there was more we could do, so if there is please let us know.
Lots of love, take care of yourselves xxx

TobyLerone · 15/10/2013 17:31

Oh, Space, you're welcome to lurk as long as you like. You're in my thoughts every day. I hope you're doing as well as could be expected Flowers

TobyLerone · 15/10/2013 17:33

You're welcome for dinner, Sultana! Stay for hot chocolate with Wispas to dip in it while watching GBBO, too. This is our regular Tuesday night treat, including almost-14yo DS. We are such losers Blush

I miss being able to eat proper portions. I love food!

Frizz1986 · 15/10/2013 18:00

space welcome to lurk. I also find myself thinking of you and your family often and hoping that you are working your way through everything as best as can be expected.

toby I cant stop eating. Really wishing that I couldn't fit stuff in but my love of food and my constant hunger are not doing me good.

My midwife seems to write down some stuff but not everything.
Pants seem v wet today and as I have my 28 week app tomorrow I am going to ask about leaking fluid as she might be able to check there and then. Some days it seems like I don't get much but days seem to merge now so not sure if it's everyday and I just don't realise. I have called the mw line but it kinda feels like it's up to me to decide if I think it needs checking.
Anyone else having tight chest sometimes. Am guessing that it's just bubs slowly taking up my airspace but they tell you to watch for breathing issues.

Oh and Dh is now freaked out as whilst getting changed the other night I spotted some blobs of liquid on my nipples, cue me giving a little squeeze and hello colostrum. Only comes out if I squidge tho and not much so no leaking yet but Dh finds it weird.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 15/10/2013 18:09

space lurk away - you're part of the gang!
So glad those are the right places to give to - I think we all felt we wanted to do something practical in memory of Idris.
Echoing what the others have said, I think of you daily, and hope you are getting on okay. xx

Percypiglet · 15/10/2013 18:10

Hi Space, we are all thinking of you every day I am sure. Good to hear you have lots of support from others, make sure you look after yourselves. x

I've also had the baby kicks/elbows in my bowel, don't much like that. I also have the kicked in the pelvis pain at the front but not too bad so just getting with it and hoping it wont worsen. The advice up thread is good re pillows, moving around with knees together etc..

BookTart · 15/10/2013 20:32

Good to hear from you space - you've been in my thoughts x

frizz, I only get colostrum if I squeeze. I haven't shared my new talent with dp yet - he's still not okay with my belly button being flat so I think the leaky boobs might tip him over the edge!

AnotherStitchInTime · 15/10/2013 21:10

Space of course you are welcome here any time you feel up to it. Please feel free to talk about Idris too, I know from my family member who lost her baby at birth that being able to talk about her baby meant a lot to her. You are in my thoughts, love and hugs xxx

Toby I loved my stretchy wrap with dd2, hands free breastfeeding whilst chasing dd1 around the playground saved me. You can also use them to support your bump whilst pregnant. I hear that Kari Me are also good, if do you get a Moby make sure the dealer is reputable, there are a lot of fakes around especially on Ebay.

Mythreeknights · 15/10/2013 22:10

toby moby wraps are great...I used mine the whole time with ds1 BUT they are a bit of a handful with all the material that you have to use, which I think is over 2m...so if you go to a cafe etc and want to take the baby out of your wrap as they will cook inside it, then you spend ages unfolding, and putting it away and it is awkward in small spaces (eg cafes with tables full if people near you) to get the baby back into it. Just something to consider...otherwise I couldn't fault it and really treasured the peace it gave me.

space hello there, how are you doing? We have all been thinking about you and Idris, bless him. Big hugs x

Sultanajo · 15/10/2013 22:18

space lurk away hun and feel free to chat as much or as little as you want. Lovely to have you with us. Grin

Toby you are not losers! I thoroughly enjoyed my hot choc with wispa dips and GBBO (or would have done if hadnt just been practicing birthing positions at NCT). We tried a TENS machine tonight - felt very odd! Grin

TobyLerone · 15/10/2013 22:20

Good to hear good things about the Moby wraps, although I hadn't thought as far ahead as cafés. Thanks for the warning!

TobyLerone · 15/10/2013 22:26

Oh, we really are losers, but we're ok with it :o

Tens machines are a funny thing. I hired one for my labour with DS because they were just becoming popular then and it seemed like the done thing. And I used it. But 3 days later, when DS still wasn't out of me, it had gone so far past the point of 'a bit annoying' that it just wasn't funny. I didn't dare take it off (until the epidural!) just in case it actually was working.

I didn't bother getting one when I had DD. I know some people swear by them, though.

Toothfairy78 · 15/10/2013 23:05

Hey space you carry on lurking. It's lovely to see you on here. X

OP posts:
AnotherStitchInTime · 15/10/2013 23:56

Toby with a stretchy wrap like a Moby you don't have to unwrap and re wrap every time you take baby out. You can take baby out same way you pop them in, but reversed. Then before you put them back in again undo the knot and pull the slack through slightly to the ends to re-tighten (they loosen slightly when you wear them too, with practise you can tighten with them in the sling). There are some good videos on YouTube that show how.

I loved my TENS with dd2, but I can see how after 3 days it would be pretty useless.

TobyLerone · 16/10/2013 07:06

That's kind of what I had imagined with the Moby, another, so thank you :)

Sultanajo · 16/10/2013 07:53

Well until I listened to one girl swearing by them last night I had totally written them off! However, I started to think that even if it didn't take away the pain, it would be a distraction as I didn't exactly enjoy the feeling...I am open to the idea, but not sure I will go for it in the end. Still hoping for water birth, although I found out they won't let you in the pool until 4cm which sucks and then you have to hope there is one available AND that you are labouring well, so I realise it's potentially a dream, but hey, a girl has to have dreams! Grin

We actually did a really interesting exercise last night. She said in established labour, contractions could come every 2 mins and last for a minute at a time. A minute didn't seem too long, until she got us to close our eyes and just sit there while she timed a minute. OMG! It felt like the longest minute ever! She then got us to repeat the exercise, only this time we had to concentrate on our breathing and count our breaths - either breathing normally, or taking deeper breaths and counting "in 1 2 3, out 1 2 3". It actually made the time go quicker! I think I should actually try sleeping through them, as the extra 15 mins I gave myself in bed this morning went VERY quickly indeed! Wink

TobyLerone · 16/10/2013 08:22

Just don't wear your TENS in the pool, Sultana!

:o at sleeping through contractions. Let me know how that works out for you.

They actually don't seem that long. I vividly remember them getting that long and close together with DD and loving it because I knew it meant she was nearly here.

Mac2014 · 16/10/2013 08:22

Hi all,

space the biggest of hugs, good to hear from you. Xx

toby sultana my NCT was good, everyone seemed quite normal... And it was actually interesting and useful. DH seemed to like it too. He got gold stars as when we were all asked why we were there, he was the only bloke who spoke up and said he wanted to know how he could support me during the birth and understand more about his role... Good man!

I have an itchy stomach, restless arms and legs, sore hips when I sleep and (tmi) constipation... Lovely!

Off on a course for the next few days, have to fly there. It's only a 2hr flight and I've got letters from my docs so am hoping should all be fine ... 27+6 today. Been having to reassure DH that all is fine and nothing is going to happen to me. Will be buyin g some DVT socks at Heathrow and keeping my fingers crossed!!

extracrunchy · 16/10/2013 08:29

Sultana that was basically my experience with TENS last time - a useful distraction, something else to focus on, but ultimately not that effective for real pain relief.

That's basically what that Juju Sundin book is all about - a series of effective distracting skills! Rationale is
Pain/stress = Pent up adrenaline = less endorphins/oxytocin = more pain/stress/longer labour

So releasing energy+distracting brain with non painful messages (mental or physical) = less adrenaline = more endorphins/oxytocin = less pain/stress/quicker labour

I think I've got that right... Plus you feel like you're a bit in control of the situation doing something active, rather than being flat on your back with your legs in the air waiting for it to stop! (Sounds properly wrong Grin)

Took me a long way last time anyway!

Sultanajo · 16/10/2013 09:09

Toby Lol! Can imagine forgetting to take it off in my rush to jump in the pool! What a great way of looking at your contractions - will try and remember that!!!

Mac good on your DH! I thought DH was taking things on board, and although he is, I realised last night how little he was understanding. He said he didn't understand the breathing exercises we were doing last night, so he will be a great help when I totally lose it! Grin Still, I think we will end up with a lovely bunch of people we can meet up with as we both seem to be getting on with everyone so far and last night was a real giggle!

extra that sounds right.... Like you say, I guess if you are using something like a TENS machine, it makes you feel as though you are actively doing something, you are in control (to an extent) and it's a distraction....

TobyLerone · 16/10/2013 09:45

Oh, don't get me wrong -- they hurt like a bastard! But at that point, they'd told me 30 minutes before that I was 4cm and they'd come back to check me in 4 hours. It was quite the surprise that all of a sudden I needed to push!

Glad your classes are going well, Sultana & Mac Envy

Naturegirl82 · 16/10/2013 09:53

sultanajo my yoga teacher swears by the breathing exercises. we spend a large amount of our time practicing them. Also the birthing stories she reads out all say how useful they were.

I feel like death. Have managed to get myself really run down, and exhausted so now I'm ill and had a coldsore outbreak Sad Worked from home yesterday and Monday but felt I had to come in today. I just need it to be the weekend and then I have a week off to sleep. Sad Realised I've lost a couple of lbs this week too which isn't good either.

Good luck mr frizz for your interview.
