Thanks for the reading recommendations! Thanks

And I think I will go to the cinema then! feminist you should have asked my DP to join you for those films - he would have been in the seventh heaven... cars and action! I really want to see Blue Jasmin, Woody Allen's latest movie, apparently his best movie in 20 years. It has amazing reviews and is the kind of movies DP can't stand. But he's already promised to endure it for me!

diege hope your placenta moves due date buddy!

wicked I also really struggle with sleeping. It's really killing me. This week I started serious naps during the day and at least I feel great in the afternoons and evenings. I've just woken up from one... two hours again...! but I don't know how easy it would be for you though with so many kids around? They keep me going though

karma perhaps you should talk to someone about this itching if it's severe and every night? I know with OC it tends to strike at night. I didn't go to be seen today only because it was one odd night for me. It was really nasty though.

re: stretch marks... nothing here yet and nothing from DS1. But I'm only 37 weeks and had DS1 at 39+1 so perhaps that's why. I see I still have a long way to go... hope mother nature will be kind to me... such a lottery with them

claphammama · 01/10/2013 13:31

cross post - pink thanks for reminding me about Baby Screamings hehe at cinemas! I used to love them. There was one walking distance from my house that used to do it 5 years ago... hope they still do!

and I've never read GoT but have been watching it. Loved the first series but got totally lost in the second series... kept forgetting who was who and the connections... is it just me and my pregnancy brain? first series was watched when not pregnant and made more sense...

Pinkforboys · 01/10/2013 13:42

For those of you tempted by embarrassing seasonal outfits- you might like these rudolf shoes I loved this make of shoes for DS. (and there's a 10% off voucher on their home page)

And in exchange for the gro-swaddle recommendation I've been meaning to share this tiny love mobile It worked magic with DS giving me clear time for a shower while he watched the black & white swirly shapes and moving animals and learnt to appreciate Mozart from the safety of his cot. Bestest recommendation I was given back then.

Flyer747 · 01/10/2013 13:43

Pink I only know the shellac colours because I am a qualified Nail Tech, and looking at the state of my nails sometimes you'd struggle to believe it Smile

ImpOfDarkness · 01/10/2013 13:43

I'm going to see the Liberace film with a bunch of mates for my birthday on Friday. It turns out DP is off work unexpectedly so he'll be coming along with us - not sure what he'll make of our girls' night out Grin

Sephy · 01/10/2013 13:45

Happy October everyone! So pleased its finally here.

Liking the nail discussion - I've decided not to spend money on them with a c section in the next couple of weeks, but will have a go at doing my own. Good tip about the stairs.

At this morning's appointment I've been put on blood thinning injections which I'm going to have to do until bany's 6 weeks old - not crazy about that but at least I'm not too squeamish. I know it's a minor thing to be concerned about compared to other ladies' issues - how are you doing with your BP pseudo? And hope your trainee continues to help you get to the bottom of things MoN xxx

FeministInTraining · 01/10/2013 13:51

Pink that mobile was one of my gifts from work- someone there had recommended it as the music goes on for 20mins Shock must get batteries for it ASAP. The only frustrating thing is that it connects via a giant nut and bolt rather than a clip so it needs cot rails. Won't go onto the Moses basket stand or my bed next to it Sad

ananikifo · 01/10/2013 13:54

Shire that really sucks about the mw shortage. They should have made that clear to you when you started asking about home birth. It sounds like you have a good attitude about it and hopefully you'll have a good birth experience no matter where you are. (But I still hope that place is home!)

Today has been exhausting despite not doing anything! I woke up at 4 with DH to say good bye, couldn't fall asleep again till 6 because of heartburn, then went downstairs to eat and wait for the council men who were picking up our old couch. Then I tried to go back to sleep but was afraid to miss a courier delivery so I lay in bed for two hours getting up and running to the window every time I heard a vehicle outside. I'm sure I got up about 15 times. Now I know how dogs feel!

apperleydapperley · 01/10/2013 13:55

Yay to October! sc 39+1 (hello caz and was it bridget ? due date buddies!)

Another one reading the man that jumped out of the window here - would def recommend.

Also getting loads of BH which I never had with my other 2 DC, quite strange!

I think my trying not to slouch recline on sofa and trying to play trains with DS on all fours has paid off as I can now feel a nice rounded back in my bump rather than the limbs that were poking out front up til yesterday, so hopefully baby has turned from b2b.

Who's having a baby today?! Anyone?

roxvox · 01/10/2013 14:00

Afternoon everyone! SC @ 39+6. Can't believe tomorrow is my due date! High five to my due date buddy Warlin (we won't mention skullbabe who cheekily had baby Lilly early Wink )

Congrats to favellio! Hope you're enjoying new born snuggles.

sephy are the injections those horrible stomach ones that feel a bit like a bee sting?

Warlin · 01/10/2013 14:00

Help, I can't stop eating today....on my 4th bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes :) damn you hormones!

roxvox · 01/10/2013 14:05

Oh, and to whoever was saying about back to back babies yesterday (sorry, can't remember who) - my Mum gave birth to all 3 of us children b2b due to an odd shaped pelvis. They're not sure yet if I have inherited her pelvis shape, but baby isn't currently back to back (well, it wasn't at my last appointment 2 weeks ago anyway) so I am hopeful.

Midwife has recommended giving birth on all 4's with my top half slightly higher than my bottom half if I do end up having the same issues as Mum. Apparently this will allow for more room as the coccyx won't get in the way then.

MrsHoratioNelson · 01/10/2013 14:08

Warlin i have just demolished a big mac, fries and a sprite so you are not the only one Blush

Another recommendation for that mobile - a friend of ours had it and she said it bought her 20 minutes to have a shower every morning. Fem have you got a cot yet? Friend used to put the baby in the cot (in the Moses basket if necessary) even before she was sleeping in there to put the mobile on.

Had some funny cramps earlier, but nothing doing. Mentioned it to DH before he left for work and he's just called for a slightly panicked update, whoops Grin. About he shared some of the thumb twiddling and anxious waiting...

Good idea re magazines mon

They usually use finger nails for monitoring oxygen sats unless bad circ or low BP then might use toes. I would say don't paint fingers but toes should be ok? Depends though as some hospitals are a bit ott :)
I think I will paint my toes myself, will try the steps. Thanks for tip ladies.

clapham blue jasmine is brill, saw it a few weeks ago and managed once one loo trip.

MotherOfNations · 01/10/2013 14:37

I've always been asked to remove both finger and toe polish so best not to take the chance.

legallyblond · 01/10/2013 15:14

Re nails..... I had bio gel on my tie nails and my finger nails and no one blinked an eye or mentioned it before, after or during my c section. I guess my hospital don't use that method of monitoring...? The MW hit me gowned and stockinged, so she had every chance to spot it and ask me to remove it, as did the theatre staff who put on the finger monitor... It also wasn't mentioned at all in my very thorough pre op...

legallyblond · 01/10/2013 15:14

Errr... The MW didn't hit me!! She got me gowned etc!

legallyblond · 01/10/2013 15:16

And both toes and fingers were dark colours....

Oddlife · 01/10/2013 15:20

Keen to get a post in again before a whole new thread starts up but really struggling to keep up with all of you. So many are facing lots of challenges and I wish I could reply to you all but especially MoN I really admire how you are handling everything that life keeps chucking at you - and I hope that when Eliana arrives you are given all the support you need. Seems crazy to expect you to travel on bus to see her after a c-section.

Congrats on all the new mums and arrivals so far I hope over the next few months to get to know you all better.

I am scheduled for my C-Section this Thursday - can't believe that in 2 days time I become a mum - can't get my head round that yet. I've been advised to wear no make-up/polish/strong deodorants or smells etc for the procedure. I guess makeup and polish is for the professionals and natural smell for the baby.

Really empathise with everyone suffering from insomnia, my feet burn whenever I lay prone so lying down and sleeping has become synonymous with pain these days. Am starting to feel really grumpy and irritable and to be honest can't wait to feel normal again... (which of course is not going to happen overnight with the c-section).

Build nearly finished but a few delays this week means that I will be bringing baby back to unfinished, dusty and chaotic home. Not ideal but I am learning to give up any notion of control in this pregnancy - and having to squash my desire to nest....

Am getting lots of BH and struggled to walk around the shops today as so strong - fx that LO stays in for the next 2 days.

Not sure if baby will be delivered before you hit 1000 again so possibly see you all on the next thread but Good luck to everyone for next few days.

MotherOfNations · 01/10/2013 16:02

You're my new c-section buddy then Oddlife now that I've had to abandon chickie.

roxvox · 01/10/2013 16:12

I have an irrational fear about the idea of having a stretch and sweep tomorrow. It's my EDD and I have a midwife appointment, so I am assuming I will be offered a S&S and I will have to say yes (because I don't want to go so far that I'll have to be induced) but I am really quite anxious about it! How long does it take and is it painful?

I've never had a smear because I am an idiot so can't relate it to that!

Natalieand · 01/10/2013 16:14

roxvox it just literally takes a minute or so from when they start usually u lay down feet together knees apart with towel or blanket over your legs to preserve modesty and don't get me wrong u will probly experience some discomfort but it certainly shouldn't be agonisingly painfull, just focus on breathing while she does it then its over and done with xx

diege · 01/10/2013 16:15

Back from scan and placenta is still low - if anything even lower and covering cervical os. So it does look like being a section for me which wasn't my preference tbh. So will need to do a bit of research and try to focus on what's going to happen - I thinking I have had every birth experience going - ventouse, forceps, natural, emcs under general, and now elective C-section!

legallyblond · 01/10/2013 16:25

Good luck for Thurs Oddlife!

Diege - sorry to hear that.... But I found elcs positive (weird, and v v different to a natural birth, including v different emotionally / hormonally, but v positive!).

MoN - peppermint oil capsules absolutely worked a dream for me!!!

diege · 01/10/2013 16:31

Thanks Legally Smile. I've read up on those peppermint capsules and will definitely be adding some to my shopping list - any tips for big knickers too gratefully received. Bit worried about bf after a section - my milk didn't come in AT ALL when I had my emcs with ds1, but they linked that to the general anaesthetic. I am trying to focus on the positives (eg. childcare will be so much easier) although my mother isn't sure she can come over, even with advance notice, because of 'leaving the dog' for more than 4 hrs Hmm
