I have come to the conclusion that people are pretty clueless about your pregnant size (unless of course they are exactly as pregnant as you in which case may have a valid opinion ) I have been told by different people that I look "tiny for this far along" (must be undernorishing the little fella then!) and that I "must be having twins" (just a big fattie then!) These fairly standard quips were said within minutes of each other . I think people just want something to say to you sometimes, though why it can't be 'wow you look really lovely/glowing/sexy etc' who knows!

Well my poor dog is seriously ill. She has had injections and we will have to go back tomrrow morn to see if she has to go into intensive care. So i feel really bad now.

But she still needs to find a new home if she pulls thru. Anyone got a sweet old gran who needs some company??

Oh and hi to beanandboo and bumble!!

Snowboo, really sorry about your dog, i did have my concerns when i read your earlier posts - good luck it sounds like she needs it..
thanks also for the welcomes, i've had such a laugh with eeny's sinister landlady neighbour sketch, what a beaut!! - and the cheesburger crotch, i take it this is a visual reference rather than an odourous one.. (sorry) I was advised ages ago to not be tempted to take a mirror to your bits when preg or just after birth - and so far i have stuck to it. Things down there are just a little 'different' but should spring back afterwards, ( I live in hope )

SnowBoo I am so sorry about your dog! I hope she is alright. If you need to rehome her then you should try posting in Pets, someone there may be able to help. Good luck!

bumble glad you are happy here on August - we can talk for England here!

beanandboo - I have had exactly the same thing, some people think I'm tiny for 33 wks, others insist I am huge...

Snowboo - sorry to hear about your dog, hope she pulls through. Must be stressful for you. Why does she need a new home? If you are def. rehoming her, if you got her from Battersea you might find in your papers that they stipulate you must give her back to them. Otherwise best to rehome through a specialist site like this where you can get help, or another reputable rescue who will be able to homecheck any new owner. General/free ads are not a very safe way to rehome dogs esp if you're not in a position to check people out.

Well, I'm bang on 33 weeks today and seen my mw this afternoon. She says I'm measuring fine but baby is breech and have I considered that if she stays that way, I won't get a home water birth! I said surely she's got plenty of time to turn in 7 weeks!! MW just hummed and said if she hasn't turned by 37 I've to go to hospital and they will try and turn her! Not too keen on that idea! Anyone got any ideas for encouraging baby to head downwards? I can't remember at what stage ds turned but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this early! Do you think she was trying to frighten me as she doesn't fancy the idea of attending a home water birth? DH says take no notice - we'll worry about other options when we are running out of time. A lot can happen in 7 weeks! It just got me so mad as when I have seen her before, she has been pushing me for a home birth!!!!!

Hi ladies,

Big Hot mama, swollen 'front' bottoms are awful. Try to rest with your legs up & try not to strain on the loo. I started taking linseeds everyday, which means hardly any straining. My swollen bits seemed to transfer across (I've suffered with piles throughout this pregnancy) & I ended up with a thrombosed external pile. Absolultely awful -would hate that to happen to anyone else.

On the note of measuring small, I am 34 + 6 & measuring 31/32 cm (baby moved) I'm booked to see the consultant next Thursday. Did have a private scan last Fri which confirmed everything ok, but haven't let on to MW. See what the consultant has to say. I'm 5 ft 3 & weighing 9st 9lb, & I think this baby probably has my genetics. DD takes after her 6ft 3 inch dad & was 7lb 4 oz & born a week early.

sarahlou1uk, have you tried accupuncture ? or else there is a chinese medicine cure where candles are put between your toes...does have a good success rate (!)

I've seen them try to move babies on the TV...wouldn't want to try it myself...you wouldn't prefer a c-section ?

Report
sarahlou1uk · 28/06/2006 19:44

No Mojo - c section would mean me having to stay in the house for 6 weeks as there is no driving allowed which would lead to further complications, ie., taking ds to school (not to mention driving me up the wall!!). Plus the idea of going for a home birth means that I don't have to make arrangements for ds to go and stay elsewhere which I don't think would happen! He would only get upset as my dh works shifts so it's left to me to sort ds out.

Hi everyone, lots of posts today haven't had the chance to read it all yet, will do in a min

Well i had my scan today and the baby at 32 weeks should weigh about 3.5 - 4 lbs, mine is weighing 6.7lbs already!! So if he carries on track as what he has up to now, they estimate he will be about 10lb 7oz - ish i have to see consultant again on Tues, don't really know why, and will probably have another scan in a couple of weeks to check the weight again.

Oooh snap sarahlou1uk! I'm planning a home birth (my 2nd) possibly in water but not sure about that bit yet! Have you looked at the homebirth reference site, there's a good bit called "you can't have a home birth because..." and then lists useful advice for countering unencouraging medical professionals. I'll post the link if you want. Some midwives are able to try to coax a baby round maybe you could contact you community midwife supervisor for help if your current midwife isn't very supportive?

Report
beanandboo · 28/06/2006 20:17

Just a thought have you tried any optimal positioning techniques. Tend to be used in the last month or so but basically involve spending time on all fours or leaning over a birthing ball etc rather than reclining on the sofa. Not sure how helpful it would be for breech babes though...

SnowBoo · 28/06/2006 20:59

Thanks for the websites for doggys. She is a bit better but had to be carried to and from the park today. MIL has her at hers as i can't face another morning of mess. And it was like nothing on this earth!

She's a lovely little dog but very naughty and just doesn't understand she can't wee in the house. So besides her being poorly we come down every morning to some surprise or another. We've had her from 3 months and she is now 3 years. We've tried behaviourists, books, classes and puppy training pads but shes a bit on the stupid side. And my reason for not wanting to take her back to Battersea is the thought of her in a cage scared and alone. Rather try to find a nice older couple thru a friend or recommended website. Oh, and she bosses ds about, sometimes terrorises the poor love!

Eeny, how are you today?

eenywifemum · 28/06/2006 21:44

Sarahlou - I hope your baby turns around. Our was breech but when I was in hospital the other night they told me he had turned. Most do so take comfort in that!

Pucca hon I'll be thinking about you and your big baby! Poor thing!

SnowBoo - I'm alright thanks, how are you? The bleeding has slowed down although not stopped altogether. At the moment I am just stressing over how much I have yet to do! I'm about to go on our old thread to read Yellow's birthplan for inspiration in writing mine!

Does anybody else feel tempted to pay privately for Group B Strep? My best friend in America had it (they screen for it routinely over there) and I just know how grateful they were to know. Salamander is pretty adamant he wants me to be tested.

Arabica · 28/06/2006 22:17

Sarahlou, mine was breech at 32 wks and has now turned (I'm 35wks today), not that it needs to bother as it's going to be an elective C-section, but just so you know you have plenty of time.

Hello beanandboo and welcome, when are you due?

Report
preparingfor2 · 28/06/2006 22:42

Hi All and welcome to the new members!

I'm still finding it impossible to keep up with what is going on with you all but thought I'd better post an update or it'll be too late!

I'm 35+1 with the twins and all is going well.

Plenty of scans for growth etc, but nothing much to see now that they're getting a bit crowded in there. On the size issue/comments, I'm a big person (6'1" and over 100kg when not pg), and even though I've got twins on the way, I don't really look that big.

So here's me waddling around the office with my (not-as-big-as-you'd-expect) bump, when a colleague says to me (in front of the whole office) "Have you lost weight?" I know what he meant (I am the same weight now as on my MW booking in day), but even I had to LOL it was such a dumb thing to say.

Thankfully I finished work on Friday but getting a bit bothered about the amount of time left (or lack thereof).

Good news at my last scan - the breech twin has turned, so they are both head down and very low (they couldn't even get a head measurement they were too low), so I am pushing for a normal birth (pardon the pun!).

Mine could be here in as little as three weeks, but I do hope they stay in there at least until my mum arrives from Australia (13th July). The hospital did suggest a CS at week 37-38, but I don't want it unless I have to.

I don't know how much say I will have in the end, but I figure if I don't resist they will just do it their way and I'll regret not saying something.

Hi,

I haven't read all the new messages yet, but wanted to post the Birth Plan Salamander and I just wrote.
Your thoughts would be appreciated...

-----
Birth Plan for Eeny, Husband and Baby
EDD 1st September 2006

? I would like to have a water birth. I would prefer the baby to actually be born in the water.
? I understand that during a water birth gas and air is the only pain relief option for me.
? I am happy for a student midwife to be present during my labour and delivery although I would like a senior midwife experienced in water births to do the actual delivering.
? I would like the option to listen to a CD of my choice if I wish to.
? In the event of the baby being breech and a necessary transfer to St. John?s I would like to deliver him by caesarean with an epidural ? not a general anaesthetic if possible.
? I would like to touch the baby?s head as it crowns and if I have a hand mirror to try to see it as well.
? Salamander would like to cut the umbilical cord after it has stopped pulsing.
? I would like to be present at the weighing, cleaning and Agpar of the baby.
? I would like vitamin K to be given to my baby via injection.
? I would appreciate it if a midwife would take a few pictures of me, Salamander and baby after the birth.
? I would prefer not to use Oxytocin unless it is deemed necessary by the midwife.
? I would like for myself and Salamander to be able to see and touch the placenta before it is removed.
? I would appreciate a midwife?s assistance with helping my baby breastfeed immediately after birth.
? I would like to stay with Salamander and the baby overnight at WJC.

I understand that this expresses my wishes for the delivery, and that circumstances could necessitate a change. I feel very confident that the midwives at WJC can advise me if there are any complications that would mean an alteration to this plan. I would like to thank you in advance for helping me, my husband, and baby to have a birth experience that we will remember with happiness and love.

preparingfor2 - I hope you can have the birth you want!! It's great that they are both head down, I heard that with twins it's really common for one to be breech! I forget, do you know the sexes of your babies? I guess you can't know if they are identical or fraternal twins until after they are born?

eeny - I am going for the group b strep test... be interesting to see if my midwife has anything to say about it when I go for my next appt. I've already got the testing kit and my plan is to do it myself at 35 wks and just get the results sent to her.
I like your birth plan - gave me a couple of ideas to put on mine (haven't started yet).

2labs - I am going to talk to my midwife about the group B thing on Tues at my next appointment as I can't make up my mind about whether or not we should do the test. Glad you like the birth plan! I looked at a few to get ideas and they are all so different - like births I guess! Because I am aiming for a water birth there isnt too much to add... you know I am just supposed to get in the pool and push!
