MrsH I hate to be negative I think mil will get worse after babyH is born. I might be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if she will be telling you how to do things based on out of date information from 30 years ago when she was a mum it would really get on my tits nerves if dp's mum did this.

JellyCurls · 25/09/2013 14:55

Hayle, big hugs to you and baby Isaac hope he gets out soon.

Consultant appointment this morning and starting to dilate and babies head 2/5 palpable. Since was examined have had a bit of a show so hopefully not much longer

FeministInTraining · 25/09/2013 15:09

My line to be used is "isn't it funny how advice changes over the years?" after the obligatory smile and nod. Then skip along my merry way. Or sit and hope my baby gets passed back to me soon Grin

Sounds promising Jelly!

notsoold · 25/09/2013 15:29

Jelly....baby is coming!!! :)

AnythingNotEverything · 25/09/2013 15:30

I'm with youFeminist. "That's no longer recommended because they found that x, y or z worked better/actually poisoned babies/wasn't rooted in any evidence".

Seems to shut them up.

roofio87 · 25/09/2013 15:33

Decided to have some pineapple and mango. worth a try. Unfortunately I'd forgotten that since my mouth has been more sensitive since radiotherapy pineapple does not agree with me, my mouth is so sore!! haha, maybe I'll stick to the mango!!

tuckingfits · 25/09/2013 15:40

Good luck jelly!! How exciting, all these babies.

Oh,I wanted to counteract some of my negativity of last night - the castor oil & raspberry leaf info I mean - and balance it up a bit by saying that there is scientific evidence that evening primrose oil/starflower oil work to soften the cervix. There is a component called gamma linoleic acid or something like that, which works like prostaglandins. I also feel I have to tell you all that there is scientific evidence that swallowing semen is at least as effective as depositing it at the cervix. I would not like to commit myself to commenting on whether this research was carried out by men. Personally I don't know if I'll be putting it to the test,my inability to breathe properly, thrush, choking fits etc are not putting me in ze mood & I can't imagine DP finds me that attractive right now either.

For all my moaning about him,he has finally stopped smoking again he says he has had his last cigarette yesterday. As clapham said,I must give credit where it is due. Although quite why he thought now was a good idea with all the hormones flying about, months of sleep deprivation ahead etc etc,is beyond me. poor man can never get it right,I'm such a cow

Iheartcrunchiebars · 25/09/2013 15:41

Oh no roofio. I oce ate a whole pineapple on holiday and it completely stripped my mouth!!

I'm now 3/5 after today's appointment but have been up all night with terrible itching and have had vision problems this morning. Bloods & urine have been sent off but I'm a bit panicky to be honest.

MrsO27 · 25/09/2013 15:45

So many cinnamon haters. I actually prefer cinnamon on top of my cappuccino rather than chocolate Shock

I've heard all my mil's baby stories a million times. Like how she was in hospital for "5 Fridays" with her first. How DH didn't walk until he was 18 months old. How nobody even knew she was pregnant because she was so thin (a particular fave of mine given that I currently resemble Shamu). I would love it if she threw in some new material now and again. Thinking of starting a bingo card next time I see her to see how many i can cross off. Oh god, I'm so mean...

tuckingfits · 25/09/2013 15:45

One more - apparently eating 6 dates per day has been proven to result in fewer babies being born overdue.

MrsO27 · 25/09/2013 15:47

On a positive note, she's knitted some gorgeous things for the baby!

Flyer747 · 25/09/2013 15:54

Off to buy dates. I love Medjool ones and given my current constipation they'll have more than one benefit.

Jelly it sounds all positive on the baby arrival front.

I heart hope all ok chick Thanks

Flyer747 · 25/09/2013 15:57

MrsO cinnamon and coffee my two biggest hates in life...yuck!

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/09/2013 16:00

Flyer don't worry, I am under no illusions that she will be much, much worse when the baby arrives. When DH was on the phone to her the other night she said she was worried that we were trying to create too rarified an atmosphere because DH mentioned that had been painting the nursery door and refit it before the baby arrived. Apparently, it hadn't occurred to her that a) paint fumes are bad for tiny babies and b) we might actually be a bit fed up of doing sodding house renovations and might want to get them done precisely so we don't have to keep going once the baby's here Hmm

Did I tell you about the baby carrier/sling she gave us? The one she had used with DH that she had kept in the loft all this time...

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/09/2013 16:03

These are all rubbish baby eviction tips people - I loathe mango and dates and pineapple gives me a stomach ache.

Any evidence that brown sugar meringues or pizza work? I've just eaten the leftover meringue from the weekend and going out tonight with a friend [hopeful]

Flyer747 · 25/09/2013 16:09

Take evening primrose oil MrsH I'm on the stuff.

I bet that sling will be lovely after spending 30+ years in mil loft....not at all musty of moth eaten Grin

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/09/2013 16:17

Flyer not to mention uncomfortable for me and unsupportive for the baby - seriously, it would be no good until about 4 months and the baby appears to basically hanging from around my neck!

To be honest, on the baby eviction front, I'm happy for the time being. I've got stuff to do first Grin

JellyCurls · 25/09/2013 16:20

MrsH I don't think any old wives tales actually work. My DS was late and we tried everything bar castor oil and nothing worked.

My friend is late (baby due last week) and got given an induction leaflet from midwifewhich recommended rubbing your nipples between thumb and four finger, ten mins each, four times a day - sounds very ouchy. Not sure if she tried but she is still very much pregnant till induction tomorrow

Dollybird86 · 25/09/2013 16:21

Hi I just wanted to pop in and say kiddiecare have 15% off there own brand stuff + an extra 5% off with code xtra5.

tuckingfits · 25/09/2013 16:22

Perhaps we could start our own study - we all eat brown sugar meringues every day from now & see what happens scientific.

MrsH & MrsO your Mils sound like peaches. Mine told my mum that she was to cut my DP some slack because he had never had a baby before. All my mum had said was that he could have loaded the dishwasher so that I didn't come home to a manky flat after 18hours of labour,a caesarean section & new baby in tow three days after leaving said flat for the hospital. My mother was pretty much speechless I think, since I had never had a baby before either.

Then there was the time the day after I got home from hospital that she suggested I take the massive pram down two flights of stairs & go for a walk because it would help me to sleep. I wasn't one who had a good recovery from my section,it was February,on the west coast of Scotland,it was a silver cross sleepover pram fucking huge, weighs a tonne, and I would have had no issues with sleeping had I not got a new born breastfeeding every couple of hours. stupid stupid woman

tuckingfits · 25/09/2013 16:34

Yeah,I tried everything last time - walking miles, raspberry leaf tea, sideways up the stairs,Clary sage (inhaling & rubbing into bump),curries, sex, making plans, accupuncture, reflexology blah blah blah. Still went 13 days over...

as bloody annoying as it is,these babies will come when they are ready. I didn't try epo or dates or oral last time. I'm just passing on what the hypnobirthing midwives mentioned on the course. The nipple stimulation thing is supposed to work through release of oxytocin. It is the same idea as light touch massage.

I'm getting impatient but I know she will either come when she's ready or on 23rd Oct (dear god,no) when she will be delivered by c section.

Back to the topic of MILs - mine has told DP that she is coming for the last week in October. I am not allowed to say no,despite the fact that I had said no house guests until November. I have managed to say she is not bringing her cats - I already have a cat & a dog who would obsess over these two cats shut away in her room, not to mention DS who adores them & would also be obsessing. Anyway, when I was talking to DP about her coming the other night he then dropped into the convo that "it is not definite, she might be coming". Erm,didn't she ought to make her mind up. Especially bearing in mind that the baby & I could technically still be in hospital about an hours drive away until 27th Oct?! Mental.

MrsHoratioNelson · 25/09/2013 16:45

tucking I think you're supposed to do randomised double-blinds or something, so someone would need to volunteer not to eat brown sugar meringues. No hands shooting up for that part?!

Soupqueen · 25/09/2013 16:49

I hadn't heard about dates, love them. Almost bought some today but decided against it as I can't have just one - I'll get some tomorrow.

One of my
NCT buddy's husband had to leave the room while she had a blood sample taken - she is a little worried about how he'll cope in labour!

Soupqueen · 25/09/2013 16:50

I'll avoid the meringues MrsHN, purely in the interests of science! Can't be assed making any.

Iheartcrunchiebars · 25/09/2013 16:50

Mrsh the meringues thing might work. My mum always says she woke up in the night (with baby number 3) saying 'I've eaten too many meringues, I'm getting tummy ache ever minute or so' so it must have induced labour!

She had a 1.5 hour labour (rushing off to make meringues!)
