nature the Italian meringue will be fine. I have only done it once before but it is pretty easy as long as you have a thermometer for your sugar syrup and then whisk it until the bowl cools. And then as it's cooked egg you can eat it :-)

moon I have that. I thought it was SPd but doctor and registrar dismissed it as normal pregnancy pains. I will ask midwife about it next time too though

space poor you, must be very scary. What a horrible doctor!

Sultanajo · 26/09/2013 14:38

frizz I also hoped for no new random symptoms so I could be confident, but have resigned myself to realise I am just gonna carry on worrying about every new niggle...

As I dunked my head under the water in the bath last night I came to the realisation that bump is too big now for me to lay back comfortably and for me to sit back up without a winch! Blush We dont have handles on the bath, so think I will be washing my hair in the shower from now on.... There will come a time when I cant lower myself into the bath at all or heave myself out - will be a sad day as I love my baths! Bit worried about going swimming and not being able to get out of the pool! Hmm

Naturegirl82 · 26/09/2013 14:48

Frizz no thermometer so will be relying on the drop ball method of determining it's ready!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 26/09/2013 14:50

nature I have no idea. Normally I could put that on in a week Grin.
Also, like toby I was squishy to begin with, so I guess my normal eating is what most people start eating when pregnant - hence not much gain. It DOES NOT mean I am one of those 'swallowed an olive' people.

Also, have ordered birthing ball, but it's not arrived yet.

Naturegirl82 · 26/09/2013 14:50

Lalunya there is definitely no denying I am pregnant that is for sure. I shall just console myself with the fact I haven't expanded sideways at all just forwards! I didn't have any morning sickness so no weight loss at the start for me!

Naturegirl82 · 26/09/2013 14:54

I was just having a bug discussion about heartburn and general non-work things when a client phoned out of the blue! Had to quickly put on my professional voice! Oops!

Toothfairy78 · 26/09/2013 15:10

Afternoon ladies!

Well it's mid-afternoon and I'm cream crackered. We drove to Windsor today for furniture shopping and to buy a heated clothes horse...got back to carpark and DH clocks that we have a flat. I go into automatic mode which involves not caring what I look like, bossin DH around getting spare tyre out of boot and getting down myself to change the wheel. Got DH to do the difficult bits like find the blimming jacking point and doing the lifting, but must have looked a right sight with my bump, getting grubby on the ground!

So sewing machines, yes I do have one humpty. It's a Janome DC3050 which was a gift from DH about 5 yrs ago. My last one (also a janome) was a hand me down and was quite basic, but this one is positively luxurious by comparison. Obviously it depends what you want to do with it but features I like on it are: automatic tension, auto button holes, overlooking stitch, control over stitch length and width. The foot pedal controls the speed really smoothly and gradually too, which is especially nice when stitching thick materials like denim. I do mainly curtains, the odd bit of dress making, inserting zips, but no embroidery or anything fancy. Best thing to do is go into a shop with clear idea of what sorts of projects you want to do and see if they'll let you test drive a few. If anything I'd say get one with Automatic Tension and nice variable speed control, cos they make a world difference.

lalunya if you can make it work, then wouldn't it be nice to have something that's all yours, just for you?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 26/09/2013 16:51

tooth thank you - that's really helpful advice. I'm a beginner - done a basic 'how a sewing machine works' course, used to do Textiles at school (but have forgotten most of it!) and would love to be able to just run up things like your blinds - so that I can save money and personalise things cheaply! I'm unlikely to become a dressmaker anytime soon, just want something to do little projects on. I'm going to go shopping!

Naturegirl82 · 26/09/2013 18:32

Argh I'm so excited. Came home to find I've got a place in the London marathon ballot whoop. Will be deferring it till 2015 but still exciting Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Will help shift the baby weight! Dh got a place too Grin Grin Grin

MrsGSR · 26/09/2013 19:01

That's so exciting nature! Yay!

tooth I'm getting sewing machine envy now, I was going to see if I could have my late mums machine as I'm fairly sure neither my dad more sister know or want to know how to use it (when I go to visit there's often pile of clothes for me to mend/take in!) but now I want a posh new one with automatic tension!

TobyLerone · 26/09/2013 19:30

Nature, I am in awe of anyone who can run any further than 5km. That's amazing!

Toothfairy78 · 26/09/2013 21:01

Hi again, just thought I'd share what the Pregnancy HD App is telling me today...

"...you are 25 weeks and 6 days pregnant within the 2nd trimester."

"Daily tip: don't forget to log your weight in pregnancy in this app.", erm get lost!

Today's article "How to take a home pregnancy test". Well thanks but I figured out how to POAS a while back.

Sultanajo · 26/09/2013 21:38

nature I too am in awe of anyone who can run further than down the end of my road! Grin Congratulations!

tooth that sounds like the most useful app ever! Wink My "what to expect" app started talking about how to know if you are doing too much exercise by kick counting afterwards.... I could feel obsession coming on so have swiftly wiped it from my mind, plus no chance of doing too much exercise right now....Blush

Sultanajo · 26/09/2013 22:19

Just got DH to remove a tarantula (sp?) from outside the bedroom. I think I did well to not run away screaming. He was mahoosive!!! Shock

lovelilies · 26/09/2013 22:56

Out of interest.. those of us who aren't married to our OHs, will you be giving the baby your name or your DPs?

extracrunchy · 27/09/2013 00:20

Sultana my cat brought a massive frog into the house this morning. So gross it was bouncing all over the flat, hid under my bed, threw itself down the stairs... The way they move... ICK. I eventually managed to steer it outside. DS totally freaked out!

Sultanajo · 27/09/2013 08:37

extra I can imagine the chaos it caused! Grin Bet your cat was gutted you got rid of its new toy! Grin

Just weighed myself. Am 27 weeks today and after piling on the pounds so far, I have realised this month I have only put on 1lb! Grin As long as bubs is ok then I am really happy with that with just 3 months to go. Was really worried I was gonna be enormous by the end (was squidgy to start with)....Grin

TobyLerone · 27/09/2013 08:38

Frogs tend to be extra crunchy when cats get hold of them :o

Frizz1986 · 27/09/2013 08:40

Wow nature how amazing. I can't run 2 meters without getting a stitch so really admire anyone who can actually run!

sultana bad spiders!! Hopefully they will stay away. Maybe a baby crying will annoy them and they will leave Smile

extra our dog likes to try and chase frogs but thankfully they are are too fast for her. She did bring a dead bird in the house once and thrash it around so feathers went everywhere! Thankfully she wasn't what killed it (it either flew into the wall of our old house or another bird got it as we found another one the next day lying outside)

OMG I have found something that I really want to do for the nursery but we totally wont be able to afford it.
I want a night sky ceiling! DH suggested it and a space theme was second on our ideas list before we settled on a basic and simple jungle (poss yellowish walls with removable tree and animal stickers)
There is a company in Chorley (nearby) that does it so am really tempted to get a quote but I think its going to be £200 or so Sad
We are proper science people and it would be so ace to turn the lights off in the nursery and have a slightly glowing starry night sky above. Started thinking that maybe it could be something we could ask for as Xmas gifts but not sure as its a lot for something that we don't really need.

toby Grin

frizz omg that would be sooo cool!!! Grin

MrsAVB · 27/09/2013 09:12

Morning all.
toby I have the black tube skirt from matalan too. It's super comfy and smart enough for work... However it hasn't washed very well. Although that might be my fault rather than the skirt's!
frizz you can get glow in the dark stick on stars to stick on the ceiling. I think I've seem them in places like the science museum but I'm sure you can get them online too. About a tenner I think. Might be a bit of a challenge if you're worried about constellations though!

TobyLerone · 27/09/2013 09:20

Ah. I tried it on and then washed it, but I haven't worn it yet. Bad times!

enjoyingscience · 27/09/2013 10:14

Night sky sounds really lovely frizz

Nature Congratulations!Good to have something to aim for post baby. I'd be ready for a marathon by oooh, 2025? Very impressed by fit people :)

My sewing machine is living at my mums house at the minute, and even though I hardly ever use it, I do miss it! I need to do a beginners course though - sounds like a lovely thing to do.

Is anyone else sleeping badly? I'm waking up with the usual (peeing, dead legs, crazy hip pain), and then getting really anxious and not getting back to sleep. It sucks a bit.

TobyLerone · 27/09/2013 10:33

Oh, I slept awfully last night, enjoying. I sympathise. Heartburn, then just the usual insomnia.
