New thread for us, can't believe another one filled! Half way there girls :) on the homeward stretch :) xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TobyLerone · 15/08/2013 11:09

It doesn't, but a week ago I still wasn't sure if what I was feeling was actual movement. Now DH can occasionally feel it from outside.

And I don't know if the 24 week thing counts with an anterior placenta.

Sultanajo · 15/08/2013 11:24

Well I have midwife again in 4 weeks and have the doppler for reassurance, so will see what happens. Maybe will be pleasantly surprised....Grin Not stressing just yet and I guess it gives me something to really look forward to. Grin Grin Grin

Penny31 · 15/08/2013 11:42

I also have an anterior high placenta, that might explain it! My midwife appointment is also in 4 weeks time and I've been using my Doppler :)

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 15/08/2013 11:51

Tarka well you sound v knowledgeable! Grin

star wraps MASSIVE SQUEEEEE! They are gorgeous. I am taking snow suit off the list to buy and putting that on.
We have a few odd clothes, and a changing bag, so far. Nothing else - trying not to accumulate too much until we move.

So - question:
Properly supportive/cushioned sole shoes. My feet are in AGONY today - I only wear flats anyway, but I wondered if there were any recommendations of shoes that support/cushion the feet? I feel like I've been running barefoot on concrete, it's a pressure kind of ache. I know the shoes I usually wear aren't that cushiony (cheap ballet flats/flip flops/converse), so any thoughts, ladies? Please don't say trainers, as I really can't bear to wear them to work - I live in skirts/dresses and LOATHE trainers with them.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 15/08/2013 11:54

sultana I am 20wks tomorrow, pretty sure I don't have an anterior placenta, and pretty sure I've not felt anything either! Maybe not reassuring, but at least you are not alone.

enormouse · 15/08/2013 12:01

humpty what about fitflops? I also love Dr martens boots as they have a lovely cushioned sole. I can't wait for Autumn so I can wear them again.

curlywurlyllass · 15/08/2013 12:07

Thanks those who wished me luck on the last thread
Amnio failed yesterday after consultant tried a few times with each needle-was very sore :(
Waiting for them to get echo tip needles to do another tomorrowposted on the testing forum
Feeling very scared n stressed and petrified of the now doubled chance of m/c
good to hear of those with positive amnio results-but i just know i will be THE ONE that gets the sad results so trying to prep for worst case scenario

Yorkie hope you have no more scares

Good luck to all those with scans coming up and congrats to those with happy pink/blue news

TobyLerone · 15/08/2013 12:10

Oh, curly, I'm so sorry you're having such a worrying time. Good luck for tomorrow, and rest! Flowers

Frizz1986 · 15/08/2013 12:51

Good luck for those who have had good results and yay for scan dates finally coming through.

Sorry your still in a worrying place curly Got my fx that all is ok and try not to overly worry yourself!

Still not sure of movement at this end (18 + 6 today)
Keep thinking i feel wiggles when i relax on the sofa at about 8-9pm, so I am led out like a look every night now to try and see if i can feel it again! Not sure if it is movement but scan is next Friday so hoping that will put my mind at rest. Had a massive crying breakdown last night with all the worrying about the scan. There is no reason I should be concerned but its that not knowing at the moment.

More experienced ladies, when did you feel your first baby properly move and know it was the baby?? Have thought I have felt wiggles for the past 3 weeks here and there but still not sure, I assumed that I would at least know if i was feeling something at this point, again I guess I am just worrying over nothing.

Had some crazy dreams last night which included my house being broken into and burgled and I woke up sweating buckets!!!
Would def rather get some of these sexy dreams you lot seem to be having Smile

Yorkiedodah · 15/08/2013 12:53

Curly sorry for all the worry your going through. All my best for 2moro x

Naturegirl82 · 15/08/2013 12:53

Flying visit, sorry to hear your news curly fx everything turns out ok.

We now have a ton of baby stuff, nearly everything we need thanks to my dsis. Just need to wash and sort it all.

So I just had my 18 week appointment. Very quick but I'm having no problems so not a surprise but she did listen for heartbeat which we heard and a few kicks. Grin Just a few weeks till scan now yippee.

Sultanajo · 15/08/2013 12:55

Snap penny! Grin

Sultanajo · 15/08/2013 13:01

curly huge virtual hugs! So sorry you are having so much stress! You must be beside yourself. Sad Will keep everything tightly crossed for you for tomorrow and then your results. Thanks

humpty how about Hush Puppies? They are meant to be soft and cushioned.....some are a little bit "old ladyish" but I have seen some quite funky ones too....

TobyLerone · 15/08/2013 13:04

Frizz, it's a long time since I had my first baby (he's almost 14!), but I am almost certain I didn't feel movement until just before my 20-week scan.

MrsVDB · 15/08/2013 13:29

toby we've just ordered a new golf which is actually bigger than it looks, good reviews and fuel efficient

TobyLerone · 15/08/2013 13:43

Oh, MrsV, if only we could get away with a Golf Envy

I am yet to find a car, any car (including 4x4s), which will fit 2 teenagers and a child seat across the back. We've tried. I drive a Fabia at the moment, which I adore, and I can get 3 adults easily and (relatively) comfortably in the back. 2 teens and a baby seat? No chance!
And not to mention the Stokke Xplory, which isn't exactly small and portable...

So it's 7 seats for us. And a great big NO to people carriers or anything of the sort (including the Ford S-Max everyone seems to think will be the one which changes my mind!)
Which leaves us with not a lot. I realise I'm limiting myself slightly :o
And that's not to mention the other list of requirements I have (NO automatics, no leather seats, iPod connectivity...).
I'm waiting on callbacks from a couple of dealers who sell 7-seat 4x4s, but who don't seem to hold any in stock which are manual. I can't find one to test drive at all.

Woe is me :o

babycakemumma · 15/08/2013 14:28

Hi, room for another? I'm expecting number five on 15th January. We're team yellow!

Saw the mw this morning and heard baby's heartbeat. Grin All seems ok. 2 weeks until my 20 week scan.

Look forward to chatting.

enormouse · 15/08/2013 14:56

Ooh I'd love a golf. DPs sis is refusing to sell her fiesta to me so it's back to the car search (fiesta would be a wee bit small anyway). I'm thinking a golf, ford focus or skoda fabia. Having another lesson tonight and I'm enjoying driving again, I feel comfortable with my instructor who isn't a complete tosspiece.

frizz I don't think I felt movement till 5 ish months.

Thinking of you curly

hi babycake and welcome. Smile

Hope everyone's scans and appointments are going well.

Things are going suspiciously well here. Got my asda delivery and my subs were all lovely, essentially upgrades of things I wanted. Toddlermouse took his first nap in weeks so I put my feet up and had a cup of tea. My phone which had been on the blink for the last week has been fixed and university of ulster got back to me saying that they may accept my qualifications after all.

It's all a bit spooky.

enjoyingscience · 15/08/2013 15:01

hi all, wrote a big old post earlier which failed. Boo.

We're having pretty regular pokes now, once or twice a day. Starting to feel more like tiny kicks than wriggles, I think.

Second scan on the 2nd sept - we'll be keeping the sex a surprise, so no peeking for us!

I'm procrastinating a lot about buying things, as we're moving house. However, we might not move for another few months, which will mean that we don't leave a lot of time. Might need to pull my head out of the sand a bit...

enjoyingscience · 15/08/2013 15:01

oh, and yay enormouse! I love good days :)

MrsRApilot · 15/08/2013 15:28

Our puppy has smashed her leg and they've been undecided about whether surgery is a feasible option so i've only had a quick skim but toby I have an S class merc and can comfortably fit 2 adults in the back alongside DD's very large car seat (cybes pallas). I have the long wheel based version and it is absolutely mahoosive in the back. 2nd hand you can pick them up for really reasonable money so def worth a look if you're struggling to find one. DH has a lexus ls400 and it also will fit three in the back easily but cars wide enough are getting harder to find as everyone wants compact.

Will be back on later ladies for a proper look - hope everyone is doing well. Heading down to vets now - wish me well!

TobyLerone · 15/08/2013 15:43

Aw, thanks, MrsR. I just can't see me driving such a grown up car! It's lovely, though :)

I'm sorry to hear about your puppy :( How did that happen? Good luck at the vets!

enjoyingscience · 15/08/2013 16:46

toby the qashqai (sp?) +2 is a seven seater that doesn't make your eyes bleed?

Buying a car is such a nightmare. My partner just bought a 3 door ford ka in January, but we're just going to squeeze! (I have a proper size car, so it's not a massive problem, except he does afternon pick ups so it will need to fit two car seats in somehow...)

Sorry about the puppy MrsRApilot, poor little mite :(

TobyLerone · 15/08/2013 16:52

I'm actually waiting for my local Nissan dealer to get a Qashqai +2 in for me to look at. I went there a few weeks ago, and they had a million Qashqais and no 7-seaters. Apparently they're so popular at the moment that they don't manage to keep them in stock any longer than about a day!
They emailed me the other day to say they'll be getting one in in a couple of weeks if I was still interested in looking at one. So it's definitely on the list, and more like the sort of thing I'm after, thanks :)

I had a Ford Ka for years with 2 small children. It was a bit of a pita sometimes, but definitely manageable.

MrsAVB · 15/08/2013 17:33

Hi all..
Am going to have a rant, (featuring lists) apologies in advance.
I am SICK of people giving me grief/ having to have a long boring conversation where the other person pities me about the following:

  1. bringing up a baby in London
  2. living in a 1bedroom flat for the next year
  3. renting not owning
  4. not owning a car I consider myself very fortunate in my circumstances; DH and I could change any of the above if we wanted to, we are both in good jobs, it's not a money issue, this is how we choose to live and what suits our circumstances. And then people give a patronising "oh... you'll soon change your mind when baby comes along" comment. Well, yes, we might, but I don't consider myself to be missing out because of any of the above. Everyone I tell I'm pregnant wants to talk about these things and its none of their damn business! My boss is doing my head in too. She is badgering me daily for handover notes/ plans, despite the fact I won't be going til mid- December. She seems to think I have nothing else to do, and the fact that around 20% of my job will be covered by someone on a much much lower grade and the rest by someone new, means that for a lot of tasks I need to produce a dummy's guide style doc. And I need to leave everything in a really good state before I go. Still no mat policy, no RA, and she has said things like "oh you should wear something that makes you look less pg when X client is in", and "there's no point in you doing X training as you won't be here", and "so what you're telling me is you're going to need a considerable amount of time off (for antenatal appointments) -no else does for medical appointments" I could really get them for pg discrimination if I was minded to. Anyway sorry for ranting when some of you have much more serious stuff going on. curly FX for the echo tip needles, will be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope you manage to get some rest tonight. humpty, I think next do some pump type shoes with extra support in the soles, similar to the fit flop idea, not tried them though. M&s foot glove shoes are v comfy but 99% of the designs are only suitable for over 80s, I do have some comfy black heels though. Birkenstocks are good but still have quite hard soles, so depends on if its the sole hardness or thickness in relation to pavement etc that's making your feet sore, if that makes sense. Sorry for mammoth post! X
