New thread for us, can't believe another one filled! Half way there girls :) on the homeward stretch :) xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TobyLerone · 09/09/2013 09:09

Ha! I'd be the worst at that! I think I'm the person on this thread who has bought the least so far. We have a pram (bought only because we saw it for £200 less than anywhere else, so we grabbed it) and THAT IS IT. Nothing else. And the pram is still in the boxes. It'd be a bit of a boring blog :o

It's just so frustrating. I feel properly useless and also like everyone else manages to do this with jobs/small children/chronic illnesses/disabilities and here's me wallowing around on my arse, moaning about a bit of pain. My poor DH has heard nothing but whingeing from me for months!

Ah, well. As soon as the contractions feck off altogether I can sand and paint the kitchen cabinets. Then I'll be wishing I was on enforced rest Wink

Sultanajo · 09/09/2013 09:30

Lol! So far your blog would say "You don't need to buy anything yet, but if you see a bargain, grab it and then leave it in the box for now!" Grin Brilliant! To be fair, the large items I have bought are also still in their boxes and will probably remain that way until December.....

You are fully entitled to whinge. I only have to sigh and DH knows it's probably because heartburn has ramped up again - he just says "heartburn?" and then "Rennie?" to me, which makes me laugh, but also means I have obviously done it soooo many times that it's predictable! Blush I have to say, now I have an obvious bump he is being more understanding if I whinge about something....

Like you say, there are others out there who are amazing at just getting on with things with more to whinge about than most, so I do really appreciate how lucky I am to have annoying symptoms rather than anything serious. However, once I have voiced how annoying something is it makes me feel better and I can usually then move on from it. Just need to hear the odd "that sucks, poor you" from DH and I am a happy bunny! Wink

Yep - remember this bored feeling when you are sanding stuff down!

sarahleanne · 09/09/2013 09:31

Hi toby yes that is my niece on the news, bless her. Im down in Plymouth. They want to take her to Bristol for specialist care but she's not well enough for them to move her yet. she is in a critical but stable condition according to doctors.
Thankyou so much for all your comments. Some twisted and sick idiot wrote on our local papers Facebook page saying' she started flying lessons early'. It took all my strength not to comment back, some people are just so sick.

Re. swaddling- I think it depends on the baby.DS loved it and would sleep like it forever if he could, whereas DD wasn't so keen and liked her stretching out and freedom.

SPD kicked in yesterday and I was waddling around like i'm full term! Woke up this morning still in pain and was using the pram as a support to lean on whilst on the school/nursery run.Probably looked like a right weirdo Hmm.

I have now ordered a baby bouncer, moses basket and stand and steriliser with some bottles (doing mixed feeding as i'm lazy and dh can help then). I originally was going to get all this expensive stuff but when it came down to it I actually ordered cheaper stuff and saved about £90.
well done me! Smile

TobyLerone · 09/09/2013 09:56

Oh, sarah, I can't stop thinking about her, poor little thing :( She'll have good stories to tell when she's older, though!

What wankers on FB. Some people really deserve to be pushed out of a 55th floor window.

Ugh @ SPD. You poor thing. I hope you can rest as much as possible. I can't imagine paracetamol touches it at all.

sultana, heartburn is a vicious bastard. You have my every sympathy. Sometimes the constant, low-level symptoms are really very wearing.

enjoyingscience · 09/09/2013 10:09

God Sarah, your poor niece. I hope your sister is holding it together ok, she must be going out of her mind :(

And Toby too - glad your cx have calmed down a little bit. Pesky fibroid.

Very boring weekend here, but heading up north with work for a few days. Going to stay with my mum and hopefully get some shopping done in between meetings.

TobyLerone · 09/09/2013 11:13

For those with SPD, this might be useful info for you.

My MN friend, Thumbwitch, is quite knowledgeable about natural remedies etc, and has described what her physio did for her SPD in great detail on this thread. Apparently it gives a lot of relief. I've certainly bookmarked it, in case the SPD I had in my last pg comes back.

enjoyingscience · 09/09/2013 11:52

toby that's genius. Thank you for sharing!

I'm tempted to try it now, but will wait until I'm not in the middle of the (open plan) office.

TobyLerone · 09/09/2013 12:02

:o

TobyLerone · 09/09/2013 12:05

And if you have any problems with the technique, or you can't really make it work for you, I'm sure she won't mind if you PM her. Or ask me and I will ask her to clarify. She's so happy that her explanation was clear enough to help someone on that thread :)

extracrunchy · 09/09/2013 12:09

Ooh I'm going straight home to try that SPD thing too!

Sarah, thinking lots about your little niece. Good to hear she's stable.

Wish my DH would say "heartburn?" and hand me a Rennie! He's very attentive and concerned, but if I make the slightest face he's all "what's wrong??" Same old, obviously... And he's sweet to ask but it almost makes it more annoying...

MrsGSR · 09/09/2013 13:00

Toby Glad you're feeling a bit better :) I hope your back feels better soon!

I think I'll be keeping baby in with me for about a year, as DH will probably to Afghan when she's 6 months, so it'll just be easier. I don't think I'll bother with the mat when she moves into the big cot and can roll away from it but I probably will use it in the moses basket neurotic first time mum

Sultana I have itchy boobs and thighs, it's driving me crazy!

Sarah Flowers keeping fx for your niece. Some people are sick, my cousin was in a car accident a few years back and was in a coma for a few weeks, some of what people commented was horrible.
:( at SPD, but yay for ordering loads of baby stuff! I still haven't really bought anything!

sarahleanne · 09/09/2013 14:28

mrs some people are so insensitive its awful. Thankyou though and to everyone else too xx

toby thankyou for the link I will definitely try that ! and your friend sounds like she knows what she's talking about. I had to read it a couple of times to understand what to do mainly because I am shattered and not paying full attention thanks so much for that!!
oh and I am jealous you have such a good excuse to do bugger all Smile.

why the bloody hell my SPD had to kick in the day before DH went to Scotland is beyond me.I felt it niggling me last week but nothing like it was yesterday and today! fingers crossed I can get a physio appointment ?? but not getting my hopes up just yet as I've only met my midwife twice and not sure how efficient she is yet.

I nipped into town yesterday and picked up a new bra, a bloody 36 F!! my boobs are bigger now than they were when I was breastfeeding my kids! Blush I am not impressed.

oh heartburn yes ladies!! Rennies are my new best friend, they live in my handbag now.

Baby bouncer has arrived. I so want to be excited but stupidly feel guilty at feeling even an ounce of happiness at the moment. Other parcel is waiting at the sorting office, dammit! I so cant be bothered to go there lazy.

Mythreeknights · 09/09/2013 18:16

Ladies it's my anomaly scan first thing tomorrow morning...not finding out gender but hoping all is ok and no nasty anomalies awaiting us. I think after this, I will finally Hmm relax and maybe buy a few items...first on the agenda is getting curtains for the nursery...although I could wait until it is born to see whether to go for cowboys or ponies...but am sure girls would like cowboys and boys ponies...?

MrsGSR · 09/09/2013 18:36

Good luck for tomorrow Mythree!

My nan gave us some almost new cream curtains for the nursery, we're having a very neutral and calm theme! (my nan buys lots of really nice, high quality furnishings and then gets bored and redecorates. She gave my parents a very nice, very expensive leather recliner & sofa because it was too brown!)

TobyLerone · 09/09/2013 18:54

Good luck, mythree!

Spacefrog35 · 09/09/2013 18:55

mythree well I love cowboys & one of my friends little boys currently has a favourite pink handbag so go for it & good luck tomorrow!

toby glad you're feeling better/bored.

sarah thank you so much for keeping us all updated. I hope it helps to know we're all thinking of you Thanks

Pootle now seems to have perfected the roundhouse kick. Really doesn't seem to like being 'pushed', if I sit in a way that makes my trousers tight across the bottom of my flabby bit bump I get a really indignant little prod. Of course I never sit like this on purpose just to feel a little nudge at all Grin

Hope everyone else that I've forgotten is doing ok!
xx

Sultanajo · 09/09/2013 19:05

Toby heartburn is indeed a vicious bastard and I suspect it will hit tonight also as DH is making homemade pizzas with spicy sausage! Heartburn on a plate, but am ravenous, so will be eating it anyway and then regretting it big time later! Doh!

Sarah I totally understand why you are struggling to enjoy your new purchases bless ya. It's important to have some positive thinking and some joy at such a hard time if you can manage it, so allow yourself a little excitement at them arriving for your little bundle if possible. Sounds as though you got some real bargains too! Smile

Extra bless your DH trying to help by being concerned and annoying you in the process. I think probably because it's nearly everytime I grumble it's due to heartburn and I ask him if he has any (because I will have already consumed my mega pack), it has become his go to thing. Oh, the other thing he automatically knows about now is when I say "bugger" following a sneeze and race upstairs, he knows it means a little bit of pee has come out! The other day I sneezed and said "not again" as I ran upstairs. When I came back down he said "have you peed yourself twice today then?" Blush It only happens when I sit on the sofa with my legs crossed - it must put extra pressure on my bladder! Have started pelvic floors with a vengeance! It hasn't happened thankfully when I have been out and about BUT I have put a spare pair of knickers in my bag now just in case!

Mythree best of luck tomorrow! Looking forward to hearing how it all goes! Grin

Well most of my Kiddicare purchases arrived today except the cotbed. One box containing the carseat was open and the other two looked as though they had been through a battle! However, I have briefly checked the contents and all looks OK. Phew!

TarkaTheOtter · 09/09/2013 19:27

So far I have bought nothing. I keep half-heartedly looking at double buggies on ebay but can't bring myself to go from research to actually bidding.

On another note, I seem to have loads of midwife appts and I don't know why. I am high risk but I see the consultant (monthly) because of that. The community midwife has seen me at today at 22 weeks and wants to see me again at 25 weeks. It's my second baby so I was a bit surprised to be on 3 weekly appts already.

Sultanajo · 09/09/2013 20:10

tarka well I guess at least they shouldnt miss anything hopefully. Grin They are seeing me monthly and I am not high risk (yet) so thats only a week difference....

Just realised I chucked away my urine sample pot and forgot to get another so found a mini jelly mould that will have to do.... Blush

sarahleanne · 09/09/2013 20:55

sultanajo your posts have made me laugh so much, loving the spare pair of knickers idea!! It reminded me of the time I accidentally packed my big fat knickers in my sons PE bag for school..slightly embarrassing. If I put knickers in my bag I can almost guarantee they would fall out or I would accidentally pull them out by accident.
I am also loving the jelly mould idea and you reminded me I have no clue where my pot is either!! Last time there was clean pots in the waiting room so I used one of them.

tarka It's good that they're keeping a close eye on you. I hope it's nothing to serious with regard to being high risk.Sorry if you mentioned it before, i'm no good at remembering things baby brain.

good luck mythree

I don't feel like i'm having many appointments this time, it's strange.

I have had some good news, my friend popped up earlier and told me she's pregnant. Great news for her as she miscarried a few months ago and has been trying ever since.Really chuffed for her and her DP. But, I have been sworn to secrecy Smile.

Bluecarrot · 09/09/2013 22:56

Gah, just lost a huge post!

Thinking if you both Sarah and Toby!

Despite saying I would probably rely solely on the sling til baby is 6 months and will go into a cheap umbrella fold, I've just agreed to buy a Jane Carerra with carrycot carseat plus regular 0+ carseat and accessories for an incredible £100, from local fb selling page.

So, I now have

Pram, accessories & 2 car seats (£100)
Cotbed (had from dd, needs new mattress)
Ikea wardrobe shell ( 80% off bargain corner job do needs fitted out with interiors and doors)
Matching ikea desk /storage bench (80% off)
Moby wrap ( £25 bnip from eBay)
Cocooi swaddle brand new ( £5 instead of £35!)
2 0-3 month cute hungry caterpillar outfits ( 30% off)
0-3 month leggings 2pk ( £2 reduced from £8)
3-6 month swim suit ( £3 reduced from £10)
3-6 month pink cardi ( £3 reduced from £10)
10 vests up to 1 month and 10 in 0-3 month ( £8 total reduced from £24)
10 sleep suits sizes and prices as above
3 weeks worth disposable nappies ( mega offer though cant recall it!)

All maternity gear except underwear, one pair of jeans and one top are all all eBay bargains. The new stuff was all in 50-75% off sale. Inc my lovely new hotmilk pjs.

See I've saved more than I've spent ( if you know what I mean!) so now I feel less guilty about splurging on gorgeous cloth nappies for baby and beautiful wooden toys ( and its not even my pfb!). Thank goodness DP started his new job today....

Sultanajo · 10/09/2013 08:07

Sarah yay! Glad I made you laugh! Woop woop! Well, I DID actually pull the pants out by accident on Sunday evening when I was looking for a tissue and thought I had found one BUT thankfully it was when we were in the cinema in the dark! I still blushed, especially as they have colourful lovehearts all over them! Perhaps I should replace them with a plain pair....Hmm

Yeah, the jelly mould is gonna have to do as midwife first thing this morning BUT it has double the leaking capacity as it had a lid top and bottom! Will be triple bagging it and praying it makes the journey....

That's fabbie news about your friend! Bless her! I know how desperate she must have been feeling after losing her first so that's just great and fingers crossed this one sticks!

How are you doing today Toby?

Blue that's just soooo annoying when that happens! Thought it was gonna happen to me last night but it finally sorted itself out! I think I should employ you as my bargain hunter shopper! You have done AMAZINGLY well! Am massively impressed! I thought my 15% off at Kiddicare was good and the £100 off the pram/pushchair BUT you have just pissed all over that with your pram/pushchair for £100! Grin Well done you! You should feel chuffed to bits and definitely deserve to buy a few more cute outfits now! Wink

TobyLerone · 10/09/2013 08:27

:o at jelly mould. When I was pacing the hospital corridors in labour with DS a million years ago, they had an exhibition of photos on the walls documenting all of the weird and wonderful containers people had brought specimens in. Vodka miniature bottles seemed pretty popular, but I don't recall seeing a jelly mould!
Have a lovely mw appointment.

Blue, it should be you starting the bargain baby blog! That's amazing :)

I'm doing ok today, thanks. Very few contractions now unless I get up and do loads of stuff. Hot water bottle wedged behind me on the sofa to help my back. I will rope DS in to coming to the supermarket with me as pack mule later.

TobyLerone · 10/09/2013 08:31

tarka, you've reminded me that they seem to be treating me like that too. Even before the hospital stay! Last time I went to my mw (at 21+ weeks), she was working out when to see me next and I said I have a consultant appointment at 24+ weeks (next week), so I was thinking that would probably count as an antenatal appointment and therefore was expecting to be seen at 30ish weeks or something. She said "oh, no. Usually on a 3rd baby we wouldn't see you all that often but I don't want to leave you that long. I'll see you the week after the consultant."

I was Confused. I wonder if she knows something I don't?!

MrsAVB · 10/09/2013 08:47

Well done on the bargains blue!
We haven't bought anything new yet. We have around 15 baby gros/ vests all around 30/50p each from charity shops/ boot fairs, a steriliser and some bottles that was £3, and a bouncy chair thing free from friends. We are getting a cot 2nd hand from family too, so I think the main things we need are buggy, car seat, Moses basket and baby monitor? We'll prob get all of those except car seat and Moses basket mattress/ bedding 2nd hand as well if we can. And visit the sling library to try a few before buying. And some more clothes bits like a snow suit or something else warmish, and muslins.
Now, does anyone know how serious the advice not to wear heels is? I like my shoes!
Have a good day everyone!
