book I'd also go to a&e, I'm sure baby's fine but I broke my toe a few years ago and it didnt set properly, it's still about twice the size of my other toes and is so painful if I stub it!

I've got an appointment tomorrow to find out what the problem is with the urine test. It's the second one they've done as the first one came back with 'abnormal' results, so the midwife took another at my 16 week appointment to check it wasn't contaminated.

I had a lovely conversion with DH lay night when he was asleep. Apparently I don't need to worry about the lost treasure because we'll find it in the river. No idea what he was dreaming about!

BookTart · 27/08/2013 11:09

Cheers everyone. Less than an hour in A&E, which was great. Toe is probably broken but not worth an X-ray as the treatment is the same either way. A midwife came down and had a listen for a heartbeat, which was fine. I'm still getting lots of twinges though, so a bit worried still but hopefully it will calm down soon.
Good luck tomorrow mrsgsr!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 27/08/2013 11:18

book glad you're okay! Phew! Be more careful, we need you!

frizz and extra that sounds hard work, you poor things. Hope your bosses both appreciate what they're asking.

MrsG ha, bless your DH, how cute!

Today I have discovered that I can add things for the baby/me into our weekly Ocado shop... This week's items are Metanium nappy rash cream and breast pads. I like the idea of slowly accumulating things like that, so it's not all one big expense at the end.

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 12:18

MrsG great you have an appointment tomorrow to talk things through and find out what's what! Your DH sleep-talking absolutely cracked me up! How funny! Grin

Book really glad you got yourself checked out - best thing to do definitely! I have never felt so clumsy in my life and the number of times I have "nearly" fallen down the stairs is ridiculous in the last few weeks! Beginning to think I need to get stair gates just for me!!! Don't feel like a prat! It's often the silly things we do that result in injuries - like falling off a kerb!!! A tad worried about falling in the shoes I am having to wear for my friend's Christening at the weekend where I am godmother. However, I have no choice, so will just be taking it very carefully and perhaps holding onto DH a lot! Wink I think that will be the last time any sort of heels come out until after LO has popped out (I keep saying popped out as I am hoping that it what will happen - one push and he will just pop out! Stops me freaking out a bit....)

MrsA that's interesting! Yeah, I do wonder about the getting up in the night because normally I do that at least twice, but actually thinking about it that night I didn't....

Humpty yay for adding baby things to the weekly shop! I too am LOVING spreading out the buying, because it makes the excitement of buying bits last longer and also spreads the cost! Need to think about ordering the next thing now - I get soooo excited when the package arrives at the door and I get to open it! Teehee!

TobyLerone · 27/08/2013 12:42

Book, I fell right onto my front (managed to twist a bit so my hip and boob took most of the impact!) playing rounders when I was about 24 weeks pg with DS Hmm

He was super active for the whole day after that. Maybe it was adrenaline.

MrsGSR · 27/08/2013 12:47

I've bought a few packets of nappies with the weekly shop, we're going to test all the own brands. For some reason I hadn't thought that I could do the same with other little bits! Breastpads especially sound like a good idea to stock up on!

Frizz1986 · 27/08/2013 12:59

book glad all seems ok. Bubs might just be moving around as maybe it is a bit disorientated from the fall. I have no idea if that can happen but it sounds reasonable enough. Maybe it is upside down and is just turning itself around (my baby was lying on its face in my scan on Friday)

humpty i have just got some nappies and nappy cream so far. Should really look at getting breast pads next time as if things start spurting out early it would be good to be prepared. I don't think massive wet patches on my breasts would be considered a good look lol.

mrsa and sultana I find that if i haven't got up to pee in the night i get a bit more womby cramps than normal. Its almost like my bladder is straining to hold onto it, and the pee starts coming out very slowly when i make it to the toilet.

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 13:34

Frizz that happens to me too - I can be absolutely desperate and will start getting womby cramps and then it seems to trickle out at a snails pace which is really not satisfying at all! Yesterday I made sure I went each and every time I needed to without holding on to it for a long time and it was much more satisfying! It's really odd isn't it!

I have definitely been thinking I should be investing in some breast pads after Toby's leakage, but that's as far as I have got! Has it happened again Toby or was it just that once?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 27/08/2013 13:36

Frizz and MrsG I was thinking the same - one of us has already has leaky boobs, right? DH said mine 'smell' different the other day... Hmm

mrsA and sultana I get the same - sort of hurting, sort of not. I hate it, bloody bladder. Why isn't mine huge like DH's, who only pees after three pints, and then pees for about twenty minutes seems like a design flaw.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 27/08/2013 13:36

Crosspost! Of course, it was toby with the leaky boobs.

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 13:39

By the way, I was going to paint my nails for the Christening and just thought I would double check on-line there wasn't any reason I shouldn't. However, I have stumbled on the usual conflicting info! Do you ladies know if there are any specific types of polish I should/shouldn't be using, or is it just a case of "once in a while using any type is fine"? Confused

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 13:41

I wonder if there is cramping when the bladder is full because the bubba's are wriggling around trying to get some space back? My LO was super active at the 20 week scan when my bladder was full - once I had emptied it and they scanned again he had calmed right down....

MrsVDB · 27/08/2013 14:13

sultana I'm pretty sure you're fine. I have acrylics on and paint my toes and lady in more than 1 nail place said its fine. One of the lady's was also heavily pregnant so if she's ok with it so am I.

On a similar note though does anyone know about insect spray? Last time I went to Bali I got bitten to pieces unless smothered in super chemical Bali repellent. Doubt ill use that again as no idea what's in it but are all uk ones ok?

MrsGSR · 27/08/2013 14:15

From what I've read, painting your nails once in a while is fine, just make sure the room is well ventilated. Someone else will probably have better information!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 27/08/2013 14:26

sultana I've had my nails painted a few times, I wouldn't panic. I second what MrsG says about ventilation though, even if only to make sure you don't puke.

MrsV I'm sure I read somewhere that up to 50% DEET was okay, but I can't think where. It sounds wrong, but it stuck with me because I was amazed you could use it at all!

AnotherStitchInTime · 27/08/2013 14:26

Glad you are ok Book, I am sure the twinges will settle down, you probably pulled a few ligaments trying not to fall on your bump on the way down.

Welcome MissMargot :)

I keep pulling muscles in my abdomen getting up too quickly off the bed and the sofa, I need to remember that I can't just leap up like I used to.

I am lucky I guess that I still have all the baby clothes under the bed, but we had just given away the wrap sling, bouncy chair, car seat and baby bath so will have to get those again. I also need to get a double buggy as dd2 will still be napping and not walking long distances when dc3 arrives. I am not bothering with nappies until nearer the time and I already have a wealth of bottom creams, bepanthen is my everyday use one with sudocrem and metanium in case of nappy rash.

enjoyingscience · 27/08/2013 14:27

I'd probably avoid repellants containing DEET MrsVDB, but I think that rules out most of the ones that actually work. Lots of UK ones have DEET, and most of the 'super strength' ones will. It's very, very strong stuff.

Maybe one of the non-deet ones combined with long sleeves and trousers in the evening? (tucked into your socks to stop the buggers getting up your leg). Pretend it's the new fashion. Wink

TobyLerone · 27/08/2013 15:02

Wow, it wouldn't even have crossed my mind not to paint my nails! They're currently a fetching shade of fluorescent pink, courtesy of DD :o
I've never heard of not doing it. I had manicures when pg with DS and the only time she didn't paint them with a colour was when I was overdue, because it would have been a waste if they made me remove it.

Yes, it was me with the boobs! Nothing more to report on that score :o

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 15:17

Thanks Ladies! I thought deep down it wouldn't be a problem, but you know when you read a few things on several sites that then put doubts in your head and you suddenly get paranoid!!!

Good to know it was a one off Toby! Makes me procrastinate even more though when thinking of buying breast pads - so many other things I would rather buy! My mate's leaked for the first time when she was at a friends house for dinner and she was wearing a light grey top. It was summer so she didn't even have anything to cover herself and she actually didn't realise it had happened until her friend's husband went to the toilet and her friend told her!!! She can laugh about it now, but I think at the time she was a tad embarrassed! Blush

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 16:47

Hurray! Finished work - now going to be good and force myself to go for a swim! I know I will love it once I am there - it's just the thought of it that puts me off! I can still just about get into my normal swimming costume thankfully, as the maternity one I got is soooo uncomfortable! Just gotta de-feather myself first - don't want to scare anyone in the pool! Wink

MrsVDB · 27/08/2013 18:40

Thanks everyone, you were all right, you can't use them all but pharmacist recommend a 50% deet one which you can use after 1st trimester and its tropical strength so should be fine. I really swell up when I get bitten and there's so many mozzies in Bali

MrsVDB · 27/08/2013 18:43

Percypiglet · 27/08/2013 19:27

Hi, think you are meant to avoid DEET in insect repellant. I'm going away on the 7th and have been looking for alternatives. Holland and Barrett stock one that is DEET free. think I will go with that. They do say that pregnant women are more likely to be bitten more for some reason (cant recall). Great! I always suffer anyway. Good luck Mrs VDB, hope we both stay bite free. Don't forget the flight socks...!

MrsGSR · 27/08/2013 19:40

When we talked about it a few weeks ago I hadn't noticed a difference, but suddenly my belly button seems really shadow!

I've seen some reusable breast pads on kiddicare, had anyone tried them? If they're any good I might use them overnight but disposables seem easier when you're out and about.

Sultanajo · 27/08/2013 20:08

mrsg no advice on the reusable breast pads, but my mates swore by the tommee tippee disposable ones for going out as they stay in place and dont give u madonna pointy nipples apparently! Grin
