I also had an episiotomy with DS although dont remember any discussion about it. I had a ventousr delivery and he was in such an awkward position it would have been a 3rd degree tear if they hadnt so definitely greatful for it, all healed fine and dtd after about 5 weeks.
My DH would have been very jealous at your one week MoN he ws struggling by 5 and we thought that was early Smile
Hope your feeling better falcon Ive had my evening sickness return the past couple of days, hope its just a bug and your better tomorrow.

roofio87 · 29/07/2013 19:05

Hello ladies. tried to catch up a bit, but its so hard!! I've had my WC vaccination (about 40 mins ago!) for me I felt that the risk of WC is greater than risk of vaccine, but again its just my personal choice. The practice nurse rushed me through it so fast, but then apologised and admitted that I was her last ever patient before she retires so I forgave her!!
My sis is passing along some of her nursing tops etc so they should see me through needing to feed out and about at first anyway!!

roofio87 · 29/07/2013 19:24

sparkleigh I had my wc polio tetenus and diptheria booster after chemo less than three years ago, but consultant said to have it again to be sure and there was nothing wrong with having another dose again now!

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/07/2013 19:53

I have scanned in the stretches GT and put them on the Facebook page, not sure if they have come out very clearly though.

GTbaby · 29/07/2013 20:07

I hadn't written a birth plan with ds1. As I just didn't know what I wanted.
Mw did ask me if I'd rather tear or be cut. I didn't know and she said she would decide at the time what was best.
She also at this point asked about Vit k.

In end dr did what they wanted. And omg to finger up bum test Shock I had an epi and still realised what they had done. Were quite rough! Lol and stuck some kind of pain relief up there as well.

I felt very uncomfortable after. Very swollen. But witch hazel (bottle of distilled stuff from tesco pharmacy only a few££) did me well. A cap full onto my maternity pad. Felt nice and cool. Also lavender in bath.(I may get some tea tree oil aswel this time) Water to clean up after a wee ( carefully pat dry with tissue after).

We dtd 5weeks after. Again just as a test so if we had problems I could discuss at 6week check. Was recommended to someone on nov12 thread. (Also most ppl on that thread had 6week check at 8 weeks along with babies 1st jabs.)

Dh had a look about 3months after to check if I looked normal. He promises I was back to normal. I still haven't looked though. I feel swollen now. So prob won't have the guts to look for quite some time after birth.

MotherOfNations · 29/07/2013 20:41

I had decided to wait until after my 6 wk check to dtd after dd2 but we got too desperate and drove to the 24 hour Asda at 2am for condoms. Ex Dh was too embarassed to buy them seeing as we had a new baby in tow. I was embarassed too so picked up some cream cakes to put through with them to make it less obvious. I'm sure it worked Hmm

ananikifo · 29/07/2013 20:44

I get the flu jab every year and it was mentioned in my wc letter (maybe the same letter as shirehobbit bc we both live in Manchester?) so I'll ask to get it on Thurs at the same time. I was wondering if they had the new year's vaccine but I'll just ask and see. My work started promoting the flu vaccine about a month ago so maybe it's just an early push this year.

As for wc I work with sick children and so do some of my friends so I think it's worth getting.

roxvox that's funny bc my manager has come back to me this week and said I don't get my bank holidays added back to my annual leave. I'll just lose them. I'm not convinced that's right but I'm not arguing.

I ran out of my antenatal vitamin/omega 3 supplement and I feel so awful about it. I've only been without for two days so it won't affect anything but it's one of the things I'm really anal about. I've now stocked up for the next three months. It's shocking that after that, baby will be here!

PseudoBadger · 29/07/2013 20:52

" I was embarassed too so picked up some cream cakes to put through with them to make it less obvious. I'm sure it worked"

Yep they thought you were having sex covered in whipped cream :o

Tarlia · 29/07/2013 20:53

Haha GT not just me that had the butt test then!? I've not heard anyone else admit to it. Had to have it twice too as if 3rd degree then a dr stitches. Dr stayed anyway as she had been in and out my entire labour anyway and wasn't busy.

Anni I'd def check about taking the omega, here we arnt allowed to take it after 30 weeks. Sorry, I forget why.

MoN 1 week!? Eeeekkkk! Though I guess they were all CS so no vaginal stitches but still! Was a while for us as lucky me has a bit of a prolapse so wanted to see the gyne first and see if it would ping back up.

Sparkeleigh · 29/07/2013 21:00

Thanks roxvox and roofio!

Tarlia OMG, I need an eye boggled emoticon for that one!

Sanjifair · 29/07/2013 21:02

I had an episiotomy and forceps. I really didnt want forceps (almost to the point of hysteria) but was out of options as his head was too bruised for ventouse, I had haemorrhaged and they need to get him out quick. I ached down below for about 5 weeks, but was back running at 6 weeks so no long term effects.

My 6 week check was next to useless, she didnt even look. Just got a lecture about contraception and that was about it.

DTD, can't remember, probably about 3 months. Impressed by your sex drive Mon!!!

PseudoBadger · 29/07/2013 21:05

DS was too high for forceps which I was relieved about. Then they explained that meant I'd need a section and I sobbed and sobbed :o

Tarlia · 29/07/2013 21:09

Sorry, Spark, but at the time you'll be too busy with baby to care much. I've heard lots of people are told to give baby to birth partner while stitched, I wasn't asked and I'd say refuse as baby really was a lovely distraction.

ananikifo · 29/07/2013 21:24

tarlia I lost a long post I'd written but basically omega 3 in late pregnancy is meant to aid foetal brain development. I don't manage my two weekly servings of oily fish so I'm happy to supplement.

You live in Scandinavia, right? I wonder if average oily fish intake where you are is high, and if extra omega 3 would increase the risk of blood clotting problems. I used to eat tons of omega 3 and get nosebleeds, so I can see how too much in late pregnancy would be a problem. My antenatal supplement carries a warning that it shouldn't be used by people on anticoagulants.

Shirehobbit · 29/07/2013 21:40

Thanks for the flu vaccine info, ananikifo - I'll have a chat with the practice nurse tomorrow, but I think I'll go with all the jabs.

I think I'm still in labour denial. All this tear talk....

cazboldy · 29/07/2013 21:42

I tore with ds1, but only a tiny bit, and I only needed 1 stitch Hmm which absolutely bloody killed! ( have always felt very sorry for people that needed lots!)

with dd1 I didn't tear.

with ds2 I tore quite badly as he was born before anyone arrived to help me, so I had noone telling me to pant and not push etc. Mw arrived about 10 mins later. wanted to stitch me but I refused!

I honestly think I healed much better.

ds3 i just had a graze,and dd2 was born in the bath and I didn't tear again.

Soupqueen · 29/07/2013 21:47

Work really does get in the way of keeping up with this thread!

Thanks for all the advice on nursing clothes. GT, the thought had occurred to me that, if breastfeeding doesn't work out, the clothes would be in the wardrobe taunting me! I'm still a bit clueless on what I will actually wear, I think I'll need new clothes, as I don't really have any loose tops. Being a shortarse with huge boobs, they're not a great look for me and I tend to live in wrap dresses or fitted tops, skirts and boots. It's crazy, I should be worrying about my growth scans or labour but I'm fretting over clothes!

Whooping cough - I'm having mine on Monday. I was really sick with it as a baby and don't want to go through what my mother did - or worse. It was a big decision, I've been so careful with what I've put in my body (paracetamol once, the day I had an amnio, no alcohol, lots of fruit and veg) but it came down to evidence of harm. There is no evidence of harm from the vaccination, there is evidence of harm from the disease so I'm having it.

I had asked my midwife about omega supplements last week and she said they were fine. I'm veggie so don't eat fish at all and am taking a veggie omega supplement in addition to my prenatal vitamin.

The thought of forceps terrifies me, apparently my hospital has a really high rate of forceps use Shock

Just back from aqua natal which wasn't! The instructor came off her bike on the way there (she is fine, but shaken) so we just had a nice swim and got a voucher for another session.

I'm insatiably hungry just now, anyone else?

ananikifo · 29/07/2013 21:49

shirehobbit as a first time mum I am also just glazing over the tear talk. It's too scary!

Tarlia · 29/07/2013 22:01

ani & soup that's interesting re omega. Well MW knows I do not eat fish other than white but I guess that could be a possible reason for across the board advice.

shire sorry, we don't mean to scare you. Really I was drug free and it didn't hurt to tear, I don't know when it happened but I do know why - DS was in distress so it was a case of push push push, basically just get him out. He came out like superman with his arm up by his head so I birthed head and shoulder together.

I meant to say before, baby has been trying to escape today. He has been what i can only describe as, clawing at the bag with his nails at my cervix and pinging it - ouch!! I was telling my mum, apparently my brother did that to her too.

GTbaby · 29/07/2013 22:20

Soup. I would think wrap dresses would be good. With a shawl.

Tarlia. Had that feeling with ds. Horrible.

Soupqueen · 29/07/2013 22:23

Doh, I hadn't thought of that. You're a genius Grin

Slippysnow · 29/07/2013 22:33

Thankyou for everybodies honesty, it's very helpful, slightly scary trying to get as prepared as physically possible ;)

Although I don't think anything will truly prepare me.

Did anyone actually do the , perineal massage as written in the nhs maternity notes/guidance?

Slippysnow · 29/07/2013 22:33

Or are planning to with this baby?

legallyblond · 29/07/2013 23:11

Falcon how are you feeling now? Hope I / we didn't scare you too much earlier...

GTbaby · 29/07/2013 23:28

I don't eat fish. So think ill be fine with omega pills.

Also slippy didn't do massage. Couldn't reach. Lol. N dh kept saying he would but didn't. Lazy git.
