Morning all. I think it's hotter back in the uk than it is here, there is a lovely breeze keeping me cool however my bump has a horrid itchy heat rash on it.

Shooting I find all saints usually comes up smaller than normal, I love their clothes and shoes, I'd say their sizing is similar to Reiss, you are brave shopping now, I love the optimism though Grin

OrangeBlossom2 · 14/07/2013 07:48

I. Have bought an angelcare monitor with sensor pad on ebay. They are £90-£100 new, sell for about £40 on ebay used and there are always 2 or 3 on sale at a time.

OrangeBlossom2 · 14/07/2013 07:53

Hope you are still having a lovely time flyer.
I was wondering yesterday what I wear in the months after the baby is born when i amnot back to normal but hopefully not enormous either. I guess the same clothes that fitted early in the pregnancy as it will be winter again. If I haven't stretched them all beyond use!

Shootingstarsandcomets · 14/07/2013 10:27

Thanks flyer I've ordered a 10 and an 8 so hopefully one will fit and the other will be incentivising!!
I wish there was a breeze here.........
Ds has just finally crawled! He's 10 months so he's quite slow some of his mates have been zooming about for months. He looks so pleased with himself now he can finally do it!

claphammama · 14/07/2013 10:48

oh shooting... and so the "fun" begins! :-)

flyer there is absolutely no breeze in London... none. zero. So hot. Make sure you don't overcook your bump as babies can't sweat and regulate their temperature. So keep cool. I will have the same challenge in a couple of weeks!

I didn't really use any monitors for the first months (used them later when i would leave DS in another room) and didn't have a thermometer apart from our thermostats regulating heating. I have the same approach as gt, if it feels cold, dress them, if they feels hot, undress them. I generally think our world is over-engineered and don't like too many gadgets. Unfortunately, I live with a man who adores all kinds of gadgets...! He wants to buy a web cam monitor, also so his mum in Cheltenham can see the baby in his room. SIGH. Planning to oppose it violently if needed!

No plans for today thankfully so planning to do very little. Perhaps go to the Nightingale Lane fete later to see what's happening and bump into other children / parents.

Empress77 · 14/07/2013 16:42

Hey all, I dont post much as I cant keep up with you all, such chatterboxes! But just wanted to say -Mrs027 - I too had leg cramps the other day -one after the other - and screamed in panic for my dh to save me - crikey they were awful! And set me off panicking that if I cant cope with leg cramps how am I going to cope with labour! Epidural all the way foe me!

Natalieand · 14/07/2013 17:15

I need a moan

I feel like this has been my hardest pregnant week so far! So hot, dh is annoying me, no energy what so ever,I feel like I can't breath properly half the time, I'm tired, I'm up countless times a night for a wee, my backs been sore. 13 more weeks? Really ! Sad.

Moan over x

MrsO27 · 14/07/2013 18:34

Empress, I am genuinely worried about birth pain. Friends have told me its like period cramps but more intense, which doesn't sound nice, but does sound 'manageable'..... Leg cramps however, holy cow! I'm not sure I've had worse pain before! If child birth is that bad/intense, I'll be taking every type of pain relief on offer! I know I must sound like a wimp Blush
Moan away natalie, we all need to at times Flowers

MrsO27 · 14/07/2013 18:38

Clapham, would the web cam have the ability to pick up sound too? Would not be happy at the prospect of my MIL being able to eavesdrop on conversations in our house!

LostMySocks · 14/07/2013 18:40

At least birth pain is worthwhile. Leg cramps just hurt.

TheFalconsmistress · 14/07/2013 19:02

natalie I am the same as you at the moment and I just hit 29 weeks today its not getting any easier for me i'm afraid to say Flowers

Empress77 · 14/07/2013 19:05

Im definietly worried about my pain threshold now i know how much screaming and panic there was with my leg cramps-im sure labor will be far worse so will be begging for all the drugs they can give me as soon as i get there. Altho fearing they may not come quick enough.
I too am super moany - it is waaay to hot, and there are too many flies, and I cannot get comfy ever, my backs broken, I get worn our climbing the stairs.... dread to think how ill fare as I get bigger and bigger. But so so happy the sickness has gone, the extreme itchyness has gone, and I havent yet any of the far worse symptoms im hoping to avoid.....so probably shouldnt complain too much! preganncy does suck. But then its also super awesome chatting to this little man in my belly!

Sparkeleigh · 14/07/2013 19:12

I've been reading a book from amazon called The Good Birth Companion by Nicole Croft and it describes labour pain as exertion pain not illness pain which makes it seem a bit more manageable to me. I'm hoping it'll be something like the end of a race or weights session where it feels like everything hurts but the end is in sight. It's quite a practical book so far, I like it.

I went pram shopping with DH yesterday and I really liked the Baby Jogger City Mini, though I'd probably get the GT version because I'm short and the handle was too high for me. The only thing I didn't like was that the pushchair bit was forward facing only, but I think the other advantages outweigh that and I'm planning on using a sling too. I did see a bugaboo something or other which was amazing, but then I saw the £800 price tag Grin I liked it less after that!

Flowers Nat I soaked my feet in a bucket of cold water earlier and it was blissful, really helped me keep cool if that's any use to you...

roofio87 · 14/07/2013 19:26

I'm hoping I'll cope quite well with the pain. I may well regret saying that, but I do have quite a high pain threshold. me and dp were talking about it last night saying it can't be as bad for either of us as after I had a.major op to remove most of my tongue and have it rebuilt with ny leg as well as a neck dissection!! those days afterwards were truly horrible and I remember thinking at one point I wouldn't have minded dying right then just to not feel so bad!! Haha, sounds so over dramatic, but true. if I can endure that followed by months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy then I can take child birth!!
saying that I don't in any way mean to imply that we should all therefore just get on with it, it will be tough and painful so we all have the right to be anxious and complain about it!!!

Soupqueen · 14/07/2013 19:55

That's a great way of looking at it, sparkle, I feel I could cope with exertion pain, I've done a lot of physical things.

Sorry people are suffering, hope you all feel better soon.

Natalieand · 14/07/2013 19:56

I'm the exact opposite roofio when I had my first ever tonsillitis (although a severe case) last year I would have happily traded death there and then for that, or infact gone through child birth again rather than that lol. My pain threshold is terrible I discussed with my midwife the other day that I was hoping to try not having an epidural this time and she swiftly informed me that I may not have a choice as with dd although I had wanted an epidural she said I most likely would have been asked to have one as my bp was out of control and an epidural can bring it down a little so if that happens again then I will have to have an epidural even if I don't want one which is a little disappointing.

That idea sounds amazing sparkleigh but I'm not sure i have the energy to get up and prepare a bowl of ice water, do u think its just the heat making everything so much more dramatic for me? Like the exhaustion etc? In having bloods done on 22nd July and testing for iron at the same time.

Heat wave is set to continue all week.... Oh the joys- usually I am a sun worshipper!

Roll on school holidays!

monkeytree · 14/07/2013 19:59

Natalie you are not on you own feeling that way. Sleep deprivation really makes everything else seem a whole lot worse. I keep trying to remind myself that these feelings will pass but I'm very short on patience and like you I'm counting the weeks ahead.

I've just stuck my feet in a bucket of cold water and I'm sure my hot feet have warmed the water up by quite a bit!

roofio it sounds as if you've been through a lot. I have friends that have been through chemo, surgery etc and I think this kind of experience does make you more resilient to the things life has to throw at you

ananikifo · 14/07/2013 20:50

Thanks for the opinions on baby monitors everyone. I was initially thinking I wouldn't get one till after baby was born, to see if I thought I needed it. DH is quite gadgety and may get one himself, sooner rather than later. If/when we get one eBay seems like the way to go.

On the topic of pain in childbirth, here is a list of things that mothers in a survey say are more painful than childbirth. link. It doesn't help me much because I haven't suffered from any of things on the list, apart from a mild UTI which wasn't painful. I do worry about the pain if I think about it but my attitude is that there's nothing I can do about it now so I try to put it in the back of my mind.

claphammama · 14/07/2013 20:55

Natalie and everyone who feels awful today - hope you have a better evening Thanks

roofio Thanks and you will be OK, it's a good productive pain, not like the pain you had in the past. Your body will know it. I too have a high pain threshold and I was OK, despite being induced. I'm also not saying everyone should just get in with it but only that it can be done and it's very important to think about it as a positive productive pain. I also get occasional leg cramps - not very positive and not very productive!

I'm also beginning to experience later pregnancy discomforts... all started very recently, I'm only 25+5 today. All of the sudden I can't find a comfortable position on the sofa, I can't face doing the stairs... and we have 3 floors, DS's bedroom is on the bloody top floor... I wish we lived in a bungalow these days! I wake up countless times for wee and have zero energy... haven't done much today - still in my nighty actually! In and out of the garden all day and it honestly looks as a perfectly decent little black dress as far as neighbours know! :-) I honestly don't know how I survived today without a glass of cold wine...

falcon can't believe you are already 29 weeks!! soon 30...! WOW

PseudoBadger · 14/07/2013 21:03

So hot! My feet have swollen every time I've sat in a chair without my feet elevated and I'm fed up with that now.

claphammama · 14/07/2013 21:11

how do you feel about the lovely tube journey tomorrow pseudo...? dreading it already...

PseudoBadger · 14/07/2013 22:23

Well I don't work on Mondays (or Fridays) so I'm able to delay it for one more day.... In my pregnancy risk assessment it says that I should consider working at home if a heat wave occurs, so I'm pondering what to do this week. I was meant to work at a concert last night but managed to get out of it thank god.
Where do you go in to Clapham?

GTbaby · 14/07/2013 22:50

Shit. I just wrote a long ass post which I then lost before posting.

Jist as CBA to write all again.

Express don't worry about being scared. So was I. I wanted an epidural from start I was so scared and wouldn't consider anything else.

Pseudo my feet r ridiculous swollen. Hate it. As others I'm struggling with heat n getting bigger. 7more days at work!

Roofio. Sounds like you've been thro alot. U do not sound dramatic. Just honest.

Sparkeleigh · 14/07/2013 22:56

Wow roofio Flowers I think you're right, it can't possibly be as bad as that.

Nat I didn't even think of ice, that's a good idea, I just filled it from the outside tap. Sounds like you're having a rough time from heat and general exhaustion, and I know I'm not feeling like eating much in the heat so I'm trying to remember to take vitamins to give me a boost...

Oh, forgot to mention, my mum says its fun to take a bath and put a rubber duck on your bump and watch the baby kick it off Grin currently filling the bath to see if baby will cooperate!

Natalieand · 14/07/2013 23:18

Went to bed and dh came up to see if I was ok and I had a little hormonal cry he was as supportive as u can expect off of a bloke.... Lol I feel better just for crying I guess he says he's gunna give me a back rub tommorow but we shall see... Then pregnancy cravings kicked in and I've just demolished a cheese and pickle sandwich mmm it was delish!

Hope every one manages to get some sleep tonight it is rediculously humid down here on the south coast of the UK no breeze at all xx

Wish u posted that about the duck earlier sparkleigh bump has been no. Stop wriggling and jiggling today he even done some kicks for dh to feel which is rare he usually stops moving whenever a hand approached my bump lol

Night everyone xx
