rox I never used scratch mits on ds, even though we had them. Some babies scratch themselves more than others so I guess it depends on the baby. Would also recommend a little hat hwere the ears are covered if you are going outdoors in winter. Oct will be fine but by Nov it will be pretty cold.

I also much prefer the sleepsuits with buttons the whole way down the front, rather than the over the head style as they are easier to get on and off. Next always put their cutest design on the over the head one in their packs of threes but I just find changing them much easier with the buttons down the front. Avoid buttons down the back as they would be uncomfortable IMO.

I used short sleeve or sleeveless vests during the day and long sleeve at night in the winter. I would recommend buying cheap vests in Tesco or Sainsburys as I had to cut ds out of many a vest after a leaky poo!! Plus if they are covered in poo you can just bin them Grin

I also loved the little booties for winter to keep their feet warm if you go out anywhere.

Last time I didn't have one as ds was a spring baby but this time I am def going to buy one of those sleeping bags for the maxi cosi. It means you dont need to bother with all the extra layers when out and about in the car. They get good reviews...anyone agree? Or tell me if you have had it and didn't like it??

chick I am the same re dtd...am sooo ready for my bed at the end of the day that it's the last thing I want. I tend to crawl in, snuggle into my dreamgeni pillow facing away from dh and don't move all night....how romantic!!

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 16:36

This might be a good time to mention, if no one has already, that vests with envelope necks can be taken off down the shoulders over the feet in case of poonami. It always surprises me that lots of people don't know this....

chickieno1 · 22/07/2013 16:46

Ha ha warlin just like me! I love my pillow :)

roxvox I'd be the same with vests and sleep suits with openings down the front. I would wait before buying a snow/pram suit as you might not know what size to get until baby arrives. My ds didn't stay in newborn or 0-3 for very long as he was a milk monster! I got given a snowsuit from friend who had a tiny little girl (both her and her dh are small) and it wouldn't even go up his chubby legs Grin

Hope GTT went ok natalie

I like Alicia caz......... Because of the good wife :)

What do people think of Grace? Although dh not mad about it

chickieno1 · 22/07/2013 16:47

Learnt that after the fact pseudo

Natalieand · 22/07/2013 16:49

Went well thanks chickieo have consultant and growth scan tommorow so will get results then but jeeeese do I wish I had listen to u ladies and taken food and drink to eat I went into down after the test with my sister for last minute wedding bits and has to have an emergency macdonalds and coke before I fainted lol

Love the name grace its such a pretty name and my neice is called grace :-) x

GTbaby · 22/07/2013 16:52

thank you all for sharing you BF experiences. it is good to know that it can work with the right support. think i will try more this time. however if it still doesn't work then i know i have actually tried my best.

flyer my placenta has moved quite high up now and MW told me that it shouldn't effect how much i feel baby any more. have had some belly moving movements. lol
also i agree with the comment about men don't really react until the baby is here. or with my DH he didn't really take it seriously until i got given an induction date.

warlin, the whole 5 week at home thing is about rest and protecting the baby from infection i guess. so in that time i do no house work, no cooking other then feed the baby. traditionally you wouldn't leave at all [bed rest] no visitors. but with first PG i went to Dr, have close family visit and went and stayed at my mums for 2 weeks [but even at my mums did nothing in terms of house work cooking going out].

it think for first few weeks i was happy with this, i just wanted to laze about, by 5 weeks i was itching to get out and about.

wicked have they given you folic acid as well? i got given iron and 5mg folic acid. and further blood tests. i am now religiously taking all my pills inlucding pregnacare. with a glass of orange juice to help the iron actually be digested.

rox - vests, like legally I've only used short sleeve vests. i think i've seen vest that cut off at tummy, don't be tempted by those, they will ride up under the baby grow!

you will need scratch mits IF the baby grow doesn't have them. i bought a packet of scratch mits as i got given baby grows as gifts. but all the baby grows i bought myself i made sure they had them. and 2nd Psedudo suggest of socks work better then scratch mits!

i didn't buy a pramsuit as i figured i wasnt going out for 5 weeks anyway, and then i can buy one in the correct size when baby was here. i didnt end up buying one as we go in car everywhere [lo got very hot in car seat so would just use a cardigan with a blanket] and we didnt go out much just walking. need to change that this time! need to exercise.

right, i'm done with my epic post!

Wickedgirl · 22/07/2013 16:58

Skippysnow......"am I allowed" says that normal bp is 110/60 to 140/90

Wickedgirl · 22/07/2013 17:02

Gt.......just iron tablets, not folic acid. I have just put in for a repeat prescription as the dr receptionist told me they didn't have any appointments and even if they did, she didn't want me in a waiting room with sick people particularly since chicken pox is going around. Bless her

pinkbuttons · 22/07/2013 17:09

Just quickly checking in. Glad to hear the twins are doing well legally although sorry your stressed. just wanted to say I also have low bp, generally about 90/60. My bp started increasing in my last pregnancy but they just monitored me and I was told they were looking for a change of 40 in each number so if my bp had reached 130/100 then they would be more concerned. Not sure if this is standard but just wanted to share my experience, hopefully it will stop increasing now Smile
Amazing to hear of everyones DPs sounding very similar to mine with not being very interested. We had a discussion last night about everything we need and think hes realised we are going to have to spend some money after alot of persuadingConfused
DH has also decided he wants to go to a football match in Glasgow on the 10th September, I will be about 37 weeks and Glasgow is a 6 hr drive away. when I got upset with him for arranging a weekend away he kindly offered for me to go only to be surprised I dont fancy a 6 hr drive each way standing at a football match and being so far away from anything I know so close to my due date... am I being unreasonable to be concerned by this? I know chances of going into labour are slim but would still like him to.appreciate Im going to be huge and uncomfortable and he could have spoken to me first Hmm Sorry for rant, feeling a bit sorry for myself/ridiculously hormonal about something possibly happening 2 months away...

chickieno1 · 22/07/2013 17:13

How much folic acid in pregnacare wicked?

Here there's already 5mg in prenatal vitamin

HotSoupDumpling · 22/07/2013 17:37

I'm going to ask DP not to go far away for any occasion during the last month - our friends had a bad experience ( he was on holiday and she went into labour early). I just think - it's not a huge sacrifice to make - and I'd be devastated and unprepared if he wasn't there, simply for some fun event! Even if it's a 'once in a lifetime' occasion, so is me giving birth to this baby!

Flyer747 · 22/07/2013 18:37

It's a tough one pinkbuttons...6 hours away is a long old drive, I would feel a bit unsure about him going too. On the other hand I'd be thinking that probably would make it back should anything happen.

DP asked a few months ago about going to Hong Kong end August/beg Sept to visit a friend I told him no way, and then I think he kinda realised how silly the idea sounded....I think these blokes don't sometimes think before they open their traps!

DP home from stag do and I have missed him loads (I'm used to us being apart for a few days a week because of my work so it doesn't usually bother me) and he bought me my favourite perfume Chanel No5, he is in the good books tonight, although he is fast asleep next to me snoring as I type Grin

Flyer747 · 22/07/2013 18:42

Also I popped into boots today and couldn't resist going to the baby section. I bought my first bag of nappies, probably paid too much but I just wanted to buy some strange hey! In a previous life I'd be wanting to fill my basket with make up and smellies now it's nappies, baby wipes and nappy sacks, how times change. Smile

MotherOfNations · 22/07/2013 18:47

Oh I would let Dp away with anything for a bottle of Chanel No5 too Flyer. I must start hinting. The bottle he bought me at Christmas is almost finished.

MotherOfNations · 22/07/2013 18:49

Boots advantage card points build up quite nicely when you're buying a lot of baby stuff so you can treat yourself with them Flyer.

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 18:55

I buy most of my baby/child stuff from boots as I love my advantage card.

Shootingstarsandcomets · 22/07/2013 18:59

pink my DH went on a stag do when I was 36 weeks - I told him to go as I didnt mind at all- it was 4 hours away and he had to come all the way back shortly after he'd arrived as they decided ds needed to come out immediately. He made it in time but only just. This time he will not be going anywhere in the last month!
Hope everyone ok in the heat today. I have bought heston blumentahls salted caramel ice cream to cool me down! If anyone is near a waitrose its half price at the moment Grin

Tarlia · 22/07/2013 19:05

cuillie re eye colour, I have blue eyes, DP has brown, DS has my blue eyes which I love since the first thing we noticed about him and anyone who meets him for the first time is he has DP dimple (though DS has two).

Clapham I believe the Queen too a month to name Charles :/

Legally Do you have really bad lasting fluid retention? Pre-eclampsia is very unlikely with no protine, they would call this pregnancy induced hypertension and if it stays high then they would medicate for that. Please do not panic that they will whip babies out, though DO be aware of other symptoms - head aches that do not respond to paracetamol and last for more than a day, dizziness, flashing lights or eye floaters, chest pain, fluid retention that doesn't go down with elevation. Your reading really was ok, honest. They tend to worry more if you have a gradual increase, not just an odd reading. My bp is fab when not pregnant but this pregnancy dips between figures of 140/110 to 80/58 - it's really crazy. Last pregnancy it gradually increased and I ended up with PE at 36 weeks. The most important thing you can do to help yourself and babies is to rest as much as possible on your left and also in dark sometimes too to reduce brain stimulation. (sorry, essay, but after being a sufferer, reading and having so many medical appointments drilling it into me, I hope it helps your stress a little).

Agree with others re what a baby should wear. I wouldn't buy much in newborn - we bought a mothercare plain cream starter pack as thought DS would be bigger - people asked what we wanted so asked for newborn outfits or could have popped out ourselves. Def need 0-3 though :)

char1eston · 22/07/2013 19:11

caz I think the name Alicia is very pretty and would pronounce it the same as you. I would spell the other name as Alesha like Alesha Dixon.

Just had a text from one of my best mates to say she's being induced - eek! They will break her waters at 10pm.

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 19:31

We bought 0-3 months for DS and I then sent DP out from the hospital for newborn stuff when he was born (7lb 5 but dropped to 6lb).

Agree with Tarlia re BP - that was my experience too and was then induced at 38 weeks. I had all PE symptoms but never enough protein in the urine (only ++ once) - therefore I had PIH.

I have blue eyes, DP has brown - DS has brown.

Haylebop12 · 22/07/2013 19:32

Evening everyone!

Finding it so hard to keep up with this thread at the mo! Think I'm caught up mind!

Pleased to hear from you legally and pleased the twins are doing well.

I only learnt about the vest trick recently so I too took many a vest off by simply cutting it! Loving the word poonami!

I'm ridiculously grumpy with this heat. It's usually cool in work but with constant power cuts over the weekend all our fridges and freezers were off. The whole lot needed stripping so I worked my bollox off for two days. Exhausted ain't the word! All I'm telling myself us two shifts then 16 days off and our family holiday. Then 4 weeks in and I'm done.

Anyone else look back and realise its gone quicker then it seems?

I don't think I'd be overly pleased with my dh going away that close (since I had dd at 37 weeks anyway) but the chances are my mum will be there for the birth too so I will have her until he arrived.

IRT dp/dh/oh not been interested, dh doesn't really feel him move, only a couple times. He posted the scan pics on fb and actually wrote his first status regarding baby today. I know he's interested deep down he just doesn't show his emotions particularly.

OrangeBlossom2 · 22/07/2013 19:33

I have taught an Alicia pronounced as you like it and an Alisha pronounced a lee sha. I like the classic spelling.

Legally, my blood pressure is always a bit higher if I have been rushing to get to the gp and am stressed, as yours is only slightly high if at all it doesn't sound like too. Much of a cherry run but good that they are monitoring it. Regukarly for you. I imagine every little worry is worse after your scare about possible imminent delivery at 23/24 weeks and it being twins. It sounds like they are growing nicely though!

My DH is very excited about the baby but hates shopping. He also likes to compartmentalise everything, so if we are going for a buggy, we can't look at clothes etc and I get annoyed because I want to browse and enjoy shopping for things. He wants to be involved, but I think taking him to buy my hospital bag toiletries and clothes was a step too far, that's when he got really fed up and I ended up grabbing anything to be quick.

Hot hot hot today, still 32 degrees at 6.30, yuk. SLT stepping up observations to make sure we are still teaching and not slacking off. One of my bits of feedback from today was that i should have been circulating rather than getting children to show me their answers by holding up whiteboards. That's because I was already sweating through my shirt, my feet were sore and my hip hurts when i stand up! Grr. Had a heads up that they are coming to watch again tomorrow. I am still teaching normal lessons but can't say either I or the children are at our best. One was sick she was so hot today and everyone is exhausted. Also had my performance management and apart for a couple of silly comments I dont agree with it was good so don't have to worry about that now.

Agree it is too hot for dtd. DH and I tried to at least have a cuddle last night but it was so hot and sticky and I just kept pushing him away. Today I am putting my moisturiser in the fridge and he can rub some onto my bump for some physical contact that doesn't repulse me later!

Wicked sorry you have to take iron tablets.

Haylebop12 · 22/07/2013 19:36

Oh and I love love love the name Alicia. If it wasn't close to Amelia it would have definitely been on my girls short list. Same as Olivia but its just too similar to dd's name.

PseudoBadger · 22/07/2013 19:37

"Today I am putting my moisturiser in the fridge and he can rub some onto my bump for some physical contact that doesn't repulse me later!" Ha ha ha!! That's why I generously let DP rub my back at night as he hopes he'll get some before I fall asleep on my long pillow.

OrangeBlossom2 · 22/07/2013 19:38

Don't know how problem came out as cherry run! Hopefully my gobbledygook makes some sense.
