if she has the baby over the weekend will they make Monday a bank holiday? otherwise what's he point of having a royal family?

Smitten1981 · 19/07/2013 18:25

I really hope she keeps her legs crossed this weekend or I'll have to go into work to do tv updates. Sigh.

OrangeBlossom2 · 19/07/2013 20:05

My performance management review was cancelled due to TA interviews so got myself worked up for nothing. Still don't know what I will be doing in September or whether I can get onto upper pay scale. Thanks for asking how it went.

4 mile journey home took an hour and a half. Very hot and sticky sitting in traffic amd not what I wanted after sitting on the field for the school summer fair. One of the electric screens in my car looked like it had melted, it was spreading out white a bit like when you press a calculator screen. I got a bit worried something was about to explode but I put on the cool air blowers and it started to clear (even though they only blow out hot air!)

We have a completely free weekend for the first time in ages so looking forward to buying our first baby clothes and getting lots of toiletry/ hospital bag type things sorted. Then maybe a pub lunch or some gardening if it is meant to be cooler.

TheFalconsmistress · 19/07/2013 20:16

eek cousin has given my the invite for her 21st, its black tie where the f**K am i going to get a formal gown at short notice HELP!! I cant buy it till tuesday either :/

GTbaby · 19/07/2013 20:20

Hello everyone. So tiered haven't posted in ages.

DtdBlush I think twice since we got bfp Blush first MS put me off. Then in India lo was co sleeping between us. N now SPD. Hmm

MoN I did regular aqua fit last pregnancy as no local aqua natal classes. They were fun.

Lmao re desperate dan. Think my DH is desperate ATM. But knows to back off. Or I'll be Angry.

What else. Nurseries tend to have fewer baby places so longer waiting for babies. Mk a few calls at local places so you have an idea of time scale.

With 2 under 2 when I go to work think a nanny might be cheaper option for us.

Ok I'm to hungry to post more. Blush Bbl

OrangeBlossom2 · 19/07/2013 20:25

Falcon I would ask her if you can wear a dress you have. What a waste of money to buy a very formal dress you won't be able to wear again. Hopefully she would be understanding.

Also I meant to say MoN I think step classes were one of the few things my gp and/or midwife told me not to do. Not sure why, maybe if it is the risk of tripping? My classes used to be quite intense too.

legallyblond · 19/07/2013 20:28

Re breast pads... The best, by a hundred miles, are lansinoh ones. Worth ordering online!!! They are super super thin, the most absorbent and have two sticky bits to stay in place. Seriously, I've tried loads!

PseudoBadger · 19/07/2013 20:41

I agree legally they are fab.

Natalieand · 19/07/2013 21:02

falcon wat about the dress I suggested?

Natalieand · 19/07/2013 21:21

Why is the royal baby camera pointing up at the top of the building?

ananikifo · 19/07/2013 21:43

We got the keys to our house today! The things we were most mistrustful about turned out to misunderstandings (council has admitted their error and reissued buildings regs certificates) so we bought the house we didn't think we would buy. The work we wanted done means that the carpets had to be pulled up and walls replastered, so we need to paint and get new carpets (anyone know where to get cheap carpets?) but we're still really happy.

We celebrated with dinner at the Trafford centre, with just about every other pregnant woman and baby in pram in Manchester! Seriously were any of you there?

Also we talked about making up baby formula (according to recommendations) today at work and it all sounds like such a huge inconvenience that I am even more determined to breastfeed than before. I told everyone about that tommy tipee machine and they didn't believe it.

TheFalconsmistress · 19/07/2013 21:50

I have made an executive decision not to go Dh has no black tie wear at all it will cost us too much we have mot and tax next week and if there is any left over we need a freezer so i would rather spend the money on that!

ananikifo · 19/07/2013 21:51

Sounds like a good plan,falcon.

GTbaby · 19/07/2013 22:00

Ana no one on my previous thread had the formula machine. And our babies are only 9months. So guessing they are very new.

I did suggest it to DH. He told me we coped making bottles a few months ago so no he won't buy me the machine. Think I will make up bottles n refrigerate (reheat in hot water) rather then fresh this time tho as I think I need everything to be as simple as poss with two to look after.
Actually I'm going to BF this baby! I need to kinda convince myself it WILL work this time n stop thinking about the what ifs.

ananikifo · 19/07/2013 22:15

Gtbaby if the rep from the formula company hadn't heard of it, it must be new. There are plenty of ways to simplify the process of making a bottle but unfortunately the fsa regulations are very strict in their complexity. Technically the tommy tippee machine is only perfectly compliant if you put cooled boiled water in it rather than the tap water they suggest. But then you have to go through the trouble of boiling and cooling water for every bottle anyway, so what's the point?! Seriously between that and hearing about babies getting burned after knocking over sterilisers, I just really, really hope my boobs are up to scratch.

Natalieand · 19/07/2013 22:20

Dd always had her bottles at room temp so each eve I used to steralise the bottles boil the kettle put the correct amount of water in the bottle leave them on the kitchen side and add the powder when the bottle was required and give it a shake, never done her any harm? I couldn't be doing with making a whole fresh bottle every time especially over night

ananikifo · 19/07/2013 22:31

Natalie the fsa recs say the water must be 70 degrees when it touches the formula to kill the bacteria. We spent ages talking about how you could make the process easier and why none of these strategies are allowed. It was really frustrating.

What was surprising to me was the fact that this bacteria that prompted the formula prep recs has only caused 3 documented infections in the UK (2 in the 1960's) and 120 worldwide. It's absolutely devastating if your baby gets it but it's not exactly an epidemic.

Natalieand · 19/07/2013 22:35

I guess I just done it that way as that goes my sister done hers so I never knew any different tbh and can I just say midwives here visitors etc always tried pushing me to breastfed but not once did any of them tell me how to make a bottle even when they knew I would be definately bottle feeding which seems odd to me

roofio87 · 19/07/2013 22:36

Not having to pay out for a maternity winter coat......

......sorry, just lying here melting in bed and trying to think of good things about being pregnant over summer. this is all I've got.

ananikifo · 19/07/2013 22:41

It's all a big mess isn't it? Bf is hard but its also hard to get help but then ff is discouraged but then there are complicated recommendations for ff that no one tells you about. Before I got pregnant I was pretty confident in my knowledge and plans around infant feeding and now it's become one of my biggest anxieties.

ananikifo · 19/07/2013 22:43

Lol roofio. Cross-post

Nobody at work commenting on my breaking dress code because they know how uncomfortable I must be? (We're not allowed sandals.)

Natalieand · 19/07/2013 22:45

I don't even own a coat. How terrible is that in determine to invest in one post birth so I can walk dd to school help loose these extra pounds as I'm a big girl anyway and deffo need to do something about it

Tarlia · 19/07/2013 23:10

Clapham crazy re the catchments! Wonder what everyone else is meant to do, not everyone wants to go private even if they can afford to do so!

Roofio I was a bit confused for a second, then had to chuckle. My last pregnancy was mostly over winter, summer was the dreaded sickness. I have to say, that although I hate the heat now being big, I wouldn't swap it for summer MS - so there is another good point. Think of those ladies with their heads down loos in this heat...

Nat did you survive last winter not going out anywhere or are you really hot blooded?

I think there are many more unreported cases of babies that have suffered due to unsterile formula, as its impossible to know if they picked up a big or if it was the milk. But really, I've no idea why they cannot/will not make the damn powder sterile to make life easier for sleep deprived mums everywhere. I couldn't imagine having to make up a bottle from fresh with a screamy baby, especially in the early months where even formula should be fed on demand.

I live in the city of bicycle lanes, between us we have 4 (5 tomorrow as off to buy DS his in the morning) bikes and are discussing a cargo bike at the moment, for transporting our two lovelies around the city. I'm hoping to take less buses and 'get on me bike' as it were come spring to lose this excess weight. I'd put on 8kg at the 25 week check and think ill refuse the scales at 32 - it's only the GP who seems to care.

Tarlia · 19/07/2013 23:12

Bug too... Whoops.

GTbaby · 19/07/2013 23:14

Nat I ended up doing the same. Read on MN, I think, that this process won't necessarily kill the bacteria. Eg Why do we have to sterilise bottles for so long? But formula is sterile in a few seconds.

Ana I have wondered how many deaths this has actually caused. But always to scared to google. It has settled me a bit thinking its not a MAJOR risk.
