Hello! Gosh - sorry it's taken me so long to update you all... life is a little bit hectic, and when we get home from the hospital each day we just race straight to bed (a long time ago we used to do that for another reason...
).
Babyheart is doing rather well, thank you all for asking
. He is in Special Care now, and weighs 1.5kg - in English money that's 3lb 5oz. He came off his Vapotherm about 2 weeks ago, onto Nasal Canula oxygen, and this week has spent about 8 hours 'in air' as he was starting to be very stable with oxygen saturation.
He moved house on Saturday, into a cot with a heated mattress, and they took away the heated mattress on Tuesday as he was getting too warm. It's much easier to get at him in the cot, although it's much lower than the incubator and I have a really awful back at the moment.
Today has been epic so far, as last night they moved him onto 3 hourly feeds, to help him be more awake. And he has. When I phoned at my 3am express time, he was wailing away in the background because he was hungry, poor mite. Then also today, the lovely nurse helped me have him to breast for the first time. That was an experience for both of us! He was mildly interested, and opened his mouth well, and even sucked a bit, but as his suck/swallow/breathe coordination isn't developed yet, he got a bit out of breath. The nurse tube fed him while he was on me, to help him associate full tummy with Mummy, and when we were just cuddling after he started wailing away, and the nurse had disappeared. I didn't know what to do!! So I popped him back in his cot and tucked him up and ran away to have lunch. Poor boy.
Emotionally I'm still up and down and this week I'm contending with the return of AF - poo. Another thing to write on my list of things-you-miss-out-on-by-having-a-premature-baby!
Do hope you're all okay, and that the next few weeks fly by safely for you all. It's means a lot to know you're all rooting for us
. We've got a few more weeks to go in here yet, and then when we get home we'll have to start all over again. That's why I laughed out loud when the Midwife asked whether our contraception was sorted...
PS - whoever it was upthread that bought a Graco Evo... good choice. That's what we went with. When we'll get to use it I have no idea, but it looks great sitting forlornly in the corner of the spare bedroom/study/dumping ground/nursery...
