X post mightbe

Oh poor you, what a worry. A monitored labour can still be good, but I do understand the disappoint of it not going the way you had invisiged, especially if you have health concerns for babe too. Fingers crossed it turns out ok for you Flowers

IcingTheCake · 08/07/2013 15:29

MightBe What rubbish news to get Sad sorry I have no advice to give, but I hope something good happens for you to balance these things out xx

Dinky Fab birth story! I gather your husband managed to park before the birth? [Grin]

Runs Ooh how much did you pay for them? off topic

I have planned LOADS for this week, in the hope ill either get to do it all before baby is here or I wont be pregnant much longer Grin win:win situation for me Grin

dinkystinky · 08/07/2013 15:37

X- posted Mightbe - hugs to you too. Cheese was diagnosed with Group B strep and still had a good birth experience, so you can - and use your hypnobirthing to say you will! - too. Ok, so the trust policy may be no water birth and MLU but you can still have an active birth and a positive one.

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 08/07/2013 15:38

Yes Icing - he managed to find a parking space (between 2 pap vans on a yellow line!) a few roads away and legged it back to find me just making it into the birth centre...

What a fab story dinky! and a beautiful name too. Hope you're having lots of fun with your three boys. So many lovely names on the Arrivals list. How exciting!

Sorry to hear your news Mightbemad - although from what I've read you can still have an active labour in a ward. Sure you can still make the hypnobirthing techniques work for you.

The massage was heaven, would recommend it to anyone needing a treat. Slouching I had a pedicure last week - although then panicked that it was too early or a waste in case I needed an emergency c-section and the polish would have to come off. But I will take that chance and it's much nicer having swollen feet with pretty nails!

I'm off to listen to my relaxation CD - I've not made it through to the end without falling asleep yet! Blush

Thinkingof4 · 08/07/2013 17:10

mightbe sorry to hear about ongoing UTI plus GBS but don't feel too down about it, as dinky said you can still have very positive birth experience

dinky wow what an amazing birth story, brought a wee tear to my eye. Jackson is a lovely name too, your boys will have such fun together Smile
hope the stitches are not too sore

I'm glad those with new babies are managing ok in the heat

Thanks for all the supportive posts, dh is home, I got through the day and this afternoon was actually not too bad! Went to park early this morning for a while before it got too hot, then came home for picnic lunch on grass (less mess!) though I sat inside in the shade
Then ds3 had his nap and we watched DVD. It was a bit cooler by then so I braved the garden and we spent a couple of hours just messing about in sandpit, treehouse etc, and I found some shady places to sit.
So I have a strategy now to get me through the week if need be but maybe won't have to wait that long. Lots more show today - maybe a positive sign of progress??

IcingTheCake · 08/07/2013 17:17

Dinky That's good then! Grin

Thinking Glad you got through your day, I couldn't cope in this heat!! And ooh more of your show, could be the start of something :)

VinegarDrinker · 08/07/2013 18:18

FX Thinking!

Good news here re B's weight, she has gained 180g in the last 4 days and is only 70g under her birth weight now, so obviously some milk is getting through! No poos today but plenty of wet nappies and she is alert and feeding well. I've got a bit of superficial nipple damage, so trying to be really militant with good latch and positioning, and using tons of Lansinoh. Hopefully it's a temporary thing and not a long term issue due to the TT. Bloody sore though!

TotallyEggFlipped · 08/07/2013 19:15

Fantastic news, Vinegar! Whatever you & B are doing its obviously the right thing.

Fingers crossed, Thinking......

Mightbe you can definitely have an active birth on the LW with monitoring. Sometimes it can take a little bit of lateral thinking, but you can move around a lot attached to a monitor & some places can even monitor you wire-free. Stay positive.

MummyKanny glad you enjoyed your massage. I wish I'd got mine, but I wouldn't swap it for DD2 now that she's here.

Icing - definitely win/win. I may have missed my massage and fancy meal, but I think getting newborn snuggles more than makes up for it.

dinkystinky · 08/07/2013 19:37

Sounds like you had a good day with your boys in the end - glad you have a plan for the week but I reckon baby Thinking will be here within the next 48 hours Max.

Vinegar - great news on B's weight gain despite the tongue tie. Ouch re the nipples. I have to admit here its not so much the nipples as the afterpains when feeding that are taking my breath away.

Might be - speak to your hypnobirthing tutor re your concerns - she'll be able to help you come up with a birth plan and visualisations that will help.

Icing - its definitely win/win. Though ds3 waited till my social calendar was free to arrive :-)

Sitting in front of my fan now and actually quite comfortable for once! During the day I thought I was going to melt. DS has been content in his paddling pool today.
Have followed icings lead and made plans for tomorrow afternoon, a bit of shopping then a meal. Come on baby, ruin my plans!
Hope everyone is staying somewhat comfy in the heat!

dinkystinky · 08/07/2013 20:47

Mystery baby solved - Marmitemad had dd2, Evelyn Grace, 7 lb 2 oz, yesterday too

evelynj · 09/07/2013 00:11

Congrats to marmite

Dinky, what a lovely birth story-well done, and another great name choice!

I'm boiling, don't know why I didn't take my mums offer of a fan earlier-will defo get it tomorrow ad about to go to bed & know I'll not sleep.

Anyways, g'night all & sweet dreams!

Silver15 · 09/07/2013 01:18

Congrats. Marmite!

No sign of sleep here despite being very tired.

McKTastic · 09/07/2013 05:23

TMI but my rear end is living up to the thread title & I'm in agony! Have been feeling great since birth - better & better each day. Few wee piles then walked WAY too far yest & they have gone mahoosive, feels like I'm sh**ing glass & I now have the runs Sad This is not how I want to feel with a newborn! Have started applying anusol but any suggestions on how to get rid/cope with the feckers would be VERY welcome!!! Ah! the glamour.

Welcome all new outties. Hope everyone else well & that today's another scorcher ( but cool enough that we don't feel like we're suffering too much!!)

TotallyEggFlipped · 09/07/2013 06:17

McKTastic germoloids spray is good. Also, a cool pack made with ice wrapped in a towel can be soothing. Hope they improve soon.

TotallyEggFlipped · 09/07/2013 06:44

McKTastic - should've said its the germoloids HC 'triple action' spray with hydrocortisone and lidocaine (local anaesthetic).

Silver15 · 09/07/2013 07:48

Mktastic, sorry to hear that yo rear end is giving you trouble. No advice.

I'm only 37 weeks and the "have you given birth" calls have started. Just had one at 7am.

esme80 · 09/07/2013 07:58

haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com/

I just send that out and avoid the phone. Though have been taking my aggressions out on cold callers thelast few days. 40+6.

lancslass83 · 09/07/2013 07:59

mummykanny massage sounds great, got some spa vouchers for my birthday so you may have just inspired me to cash them in

mcK sending lots of sympathy, sounds like totally has some good tips, afraid I don't have anything to add just hope it gets better soon.

silver what is with people? Surely they know that late babies aren't uncommon and that you don't wan to be fielding calls for weeks to say " no nothing yet"!

My mum has made me promise to ring her when I'm in labour which I've agreed to but on the condition she tells no-one else and doesn't then ask for any more information until we get in touch. It's nice that people are interested but seriously it's hardly like I'm gonna keep it a secret when it's out!

evelynj · 09/07/2013 08:02

Mcktastic-no help here I'm afraid but hope you get some relief soon. I'm hoping post birth there are less bodily issues to cope with- today's new affliction for me is diarrhoea-how lovely. Could hardly get out of bed & walk this morn-not sure if it's my hips or pelvis that's bad :(

Silver-oh dear God I would want to punch anyone that dared to call at 7 a-flipping-m to ask that? I am agog. Hope you gave them short shrift. Actually we could do with a cutting script for the folk that have the cheek to ask-anyone got a good retort line?

Hope we all cope with the heat today, it's been a quiet night so hopefully everyone slept well or there's been a load of overnight babies :)

38+1

Cheeseandbread · 09/07/2013 08:15

Been having a bit of trouble feeding but have done a skin read and caught up- trying to remember personals but on phone so sorry if I forget people.

Dinky huge congratulations in your new arrival! And thank you for sharing your birth story- sounds really positive- glad you got lots of skin to skin. I found that made me not really care about the tear either. Like you I had prepared myself for the fact that these things happen- do concentrated on cuddles while they stiched.

Congratulations to other new arrivals too!

Vinegar glad your little one has put on weight. Juno has been sleeping in just a vest sometimes too- I tend to put one of those cellular blankets on her too though. Our room has blackout curtains and blinds and the house is quite old so is generally cooler I think...

Mcktastic sorry you're in pain- hope advice from the others helps.

Thinking sounds like things are on the move- good luck!

Mightbe I was really concerned about the group b strep as I had wanted a waterbirth. I have had a really low risk pregnancy throughout so was set back on my mental preparation initially. The tour of the hospital helped initially and I spoke to the midwives who said providing I had my antibiotics a waterbirth could still be an option. This might be the same for you so make sure you get your feelings listened to as if they know you feel strongly they should try to help. In the end I was loosing blood so had to be on a monitor anyway (I actually found this reassuring and not at all as restrictive as I had imagined). Because I had a quick labour I only had time for one lot of antibiotics so extra checks had to be carried out on Juno after birth to chech her breathing, temperature and pulse. This just made me feel extra cared for and I could ask questions about feeding as I was having a few problems. So all in all I found it a good thing in the end Smile I hope my story has helped a bit... Sorry if others found it a bit long...

I had a bit of a cry yesterday as Juno was feeding constantly for most of the afternoon/evening. At 11pm DH suggested we let her cry for a few mins as she might be over tired ( she had been cleaned and changed and fed constantly for the previous few hours- I could see milk running down her cheeks when she came off my boob for a few mins). Well her crying made me cry... I have in and by some miracle she fed again but did settle after another 20 mins and I got a couple of stretches of sleep with her so now feel like a new person. One minute I feel like feeding is going really well the next I feel like a complete failure... At least the nipple cream is working and the scans have gone for now Grin

Sorry for long post...

Cheeseandbread · 09/07/2013 08:19

'Scans' should read 'scabs' Confused

whitedaffodil · 09/07/2013 08:34

awww cheese it sounds like you're doing an amazing job, even if it isn't pretty all the time (scabs & a bit of a cry) you're keeping somebody alive Smile

congratulations dinky on Jackson's arrival and so impressed that you're back up and online seemingly without missing a beat.

The heat here is quite something. My feet look like I've blown up two pink rubber washing up gloves and my toes are starting to feel numb (no high blood pressure or protein in wee so M/W not bothered). Hands also seem to be swollen and clumsy and knees also getting sore bending (must be all the weight). I've never had knee or back problems etc. in my life but have been wondering whether this is what it will be like when we're old and whether by that stage in my case I'll have the patience and good grace to just bear it permanently!
