Hello ladies- I've had a quick skim read- well done all babies who have been improving and good luck to those with promising signs!

Sorry for being silent but...

Juno Olivia was born yesterday at 12.14pm 7lb 2oz and is fit and healthy and feeding well Grin

Some of you might remember I went in after having a show at 12.30ish- I went to hospital around 3.30am after waking DH. I got sent home as they confirmed my waters were still intact and said it could still be a couple of weeks... I was actually having mild contractions at this time but confused them with braxton hicks.

Once home I started to feel a bit more uncomfortable but thought it was just a false start so decided to let him sleep as I knew he had work in the morning- I went downstairs where I started to have more contractions (was still thinking it was probably a false start). I downloaded a free app to count contractions but got annoyed with it... DH came downstairs at 6.30 and started counting my contractions which were every 7mins. An hour later they were 3 in ten mins and we were back in hospital by 8am with Juno born at 12.14...

I didn't have the waterbirth I had initially planned as I was having a small amout of blood loss so had to be on a monitor. I found it reassuring to be on the monitor to be honest. I found the whole labour to be a really positive experience despite the minor blood loss issue- I think DH was more worried than me. I managed the pain with a tens machine- which was fab- I would recommend using one. I also had gas and air for the last 45mins- loved it! I started apologising to the midwife that I hadn't been very chatty and started telling her about our cat... It made me more relaxed and while the contractions were still painful I didn't seem to mind do much if that makes sense.

On the labour ward they didn't alow visitors so we had a couple of hours together as a new family before going to a room on the ward when my Mum, Dad, sister and sister could visit. It was nice having some alone time to stare at our new daughter Grin

We were kept in overnight as Juno needed regular check ups because of the group b strep risk. I had one lot of antibiotics but because of the quick labour didn't have the second lot so she didn't get her immunity through me in the end. She has been checked and is fine and we arrived home around 2pm today.

Sending quick birthing vibes to you all...

Congrats cheese, welcome Juno Grin

MrsRoss26 · 04/07/2013 22:02

Just a quick one: congratulations cheese!! Fab news, especially as your labour sounds so chilled out and positive Smile Juno Olivia is a beautiful name.

IcingTheCake · 04/07/2013 22:02

Congratulations cheese Smile

dinkystinky · 04/07/2013 22:02

Ah congratulations Cheese and welcome to the world little Juno. Hope life as a family of 3 is going well. Thank you for sharing your birth story - sounds like a lovely positive one. I reckon tryiton is next up but wonder who the next arrival will be?

Thank you for congratulations. Also I had a small second degree tear which needed a stitch but this wasn't as bad as I'd feared.

Our surname begins with a Y so her initials spell JOY Grin

scoutfinch1 · 04/07/2013 22:26

Congratulations cheese on the birth of Juno. Lovely name and I love the initials, that's very sweet.

dinkystinky · 04/07/2013 22:28

Arnica pillules, lavender and salt baths and keep those stitches clean and dry Cheese (I tend to blot with a clean pad after bath/wees so no rubbing on them) and they'll soon be a distant memory. Loving the very appropriate initials :-)

Thanks for the advice dinky. Was it you who recommended witch hazel too? Do you buy it in oil form and out it on the pads?

Haven't been for a poi yet (sorry if TMI) and a bit worried about pressure down below...

Cheeseandbread · 04/07/2013 22:34

Poi= poo

SlouchingPanda · 04/07/2013 23:01

Congratulations Cheese! Thanks for sharing your lovely birth story. I knew we wouldn't go a whole day without a baby!

SundaySunshine · 04/07/2013 23:32

Ah congrats Cheese, that's a great birth story, enjoy your precious bundle of JOY Grin

evelynj · 04/07/2013 23:36

Hello all

Cheese-congrats & another lovely name-love the initials too, I think Joy is a great name-know one a little bit & she's totally lovely-when she goes into work her colleagues say 'here's our fresh air coming now...' Its like a freebie name for you., lol at telling mw about cat, they must hear all sorts!

Lancslass-tests sound like a pain, hope baby just wants out when you're in hospital anyway.

Tryiton-keeping fingers crossed for you at the mo....

Bb01-glad you're getting home & great bf is going well for you.

Not sure who said they can't believe there'll be a baby soon but I agree, I've gone backwards-I think it's because I've started feeling so uncomfortable that all I can think of is getting the relief of baby getting out & not all the excitement, love, work & pain of a newborn!

Reflexology booked for tomorrow, would be happy for lo to come after that, wishful thinking!

Hope everyone has a good sleep x

TotallyEggFlipped · 05/07/2013 00:30

Congratulations, Cheese! Lovely name & fantastic initials.

TomDaleysTrunks · 05/07/2013 01:36

Congratulations Cheese. Beautiful birth story and fab name.

Can't sleep, feel so so sick. No idea why. Urgh.

IcingTheCake · 05/07/2013 02:13

Morning everyone! (Am I allowed to say it this early) Shock cant sleep as i just needed to have a drink of water a half hour before bed and cant keep it down three hours later now. I think being awake with a newborn will be worth it if i can just relax and have a drink if i need one Sad

Would get up and bake but i have no butter left Blush but next on the list is a summer fruit loaf cake Smile yum!

Any tips on keeping drinks down? I've had gum to get my digestive system going, been sick (not on purpose of course), had gaviscon for my heartburn and an sitting up as i was for 90 minutes between drink and bed Hmm i think im bamboozled now.

Hope you're all having lovely sleeps tonight Smile

Cheeseandbread · 05/07/2013 04:51

Hi Icing sorry you're having trouble sleeping.

I'm awake too- trying to get the hang of breast feeding. Sore nipples- using lanitosh. Feeling every 1 and a half to 2 hours at the mo. then if I'm lucky she goes down for 1 and a half to two hours. But she has been quite niggly tonight- I got some sleep between half 2 and 4 and dozed a bit between the session before but she wouldn't settle and the feeding session was mamouth- to try to get her to settle.

Hope for some sleep now

SlouchingPanda · 05/07/2013 05:37

Morning!

Icing sorry you're feeling peaky (but thankfully still well enough to be thinking of your next bake Grin). Have you tried drinking really slowly - a sip every 5-10 mins?

Cheese breastfeeding sounds tough to get established - hope you and your daughter settle in to it soon.

All good here (if a bit early). Chocolate and cardamon muffins in the oven, washing up done... just about to settle down with my knitting

39+1 (and looking forward to a scorcher).

TotallyEggFlipped · 05/07/2013 05:47

Icing - sorry you're having such a bad night. This has to be the start of something, surely? Have you tried sucking ice chips? I hope it settles quickly & you got some sleep.

TomDaley - I hope you got some sleep too.

Cheese - I've been BFing pretty much every 90 minutes over night too. DD2 is still in completely the wrong time zone. Sleeping loads by day & going a good 4 hours between feeds. She'd be a perfect baby in Australia. Wink

TotallyEggFlipped · 05/07/2013 05:54

Morning, Slouching. Those muffins sound delicious!

Your mention of washing up reminded me I have a pile of milky vomit clothes & muslins to deal with this morning. Sad Couldn't risk waking DD1 up by turning on the kitchen lights and dealing with it at crazy o'clock, so I have that to look forward to later.

dinkystinky · 05/07/2013 06:05

Cheese - wasn't me re the witch hazel( I use comfrey drops in a jug of water to keep stitches clean( but I understand the roll on gel is good and you can keep in fridge for extra relief. Re bf - you are doing well. She will feed loads till your milk is in then gradually start stretching out feeds - sleep when she does is my top tip. Totally - lol at your Aussie did. At least you know she can go 4 hours. Hope you get some naps in today.

Slouching - sounds like you've had a super productive morning already. My sister and all her cool young thing arty mates knit so you are bang on trend and not an old lady at all.

Icing - are you coming down with oh's bug? Not keeping water down is a worry. If it persists call your gp for advice. Have you tried sucking on ice cubes/crushed ice?

BB01 · 05/07/2013 06:22

Cheese and Totally - another one here with a frequent overnight feeder! Sometimes she'll feed for five mins, go to sleep for five then be ready for more!

TomDaleysTrunks · 05/07/2013 06:25

Hope everyone got a bit of sleep. Been up almost constantly between nausea and DD! No middle of the night baking here, not sure I can face food at the mo.
icing hope you got some shut eye.

TomDaleysTrunks · 05/07/2013 06:27

Press end send too soon.

Hope all those feeding constantly overnight get some precious nap time today. Sounds like feeding is going well though.

SlouchingPanda · 05/07/2013 06:41

Just sampled a muffin (purely in the interests of quality control, you understand). I can confirm they are delicious. Good old Green & Blacks recipe book never disappoints although I would probably disappoint them as I used Aldi chocolate Grin
