Baking is probably a good plan for insomniacs - slouching your bake sounds seriously tasty. We're in a flat though with a bedroom directly underneath the kitchen so would feel bad banging around in the small hours.

DH got up with DS and doesn't have to work til this afternoon so did get a bit of sleep from 4.30 til 8. And I've just sent them out to the shop for fresh croissants and juice.

Considering a swim in our local Lido today if I can drag my elephantine self out of bed.

IcingTheCake · 01/07/2013 09:06

Just read my post back WISE MNetters i promise you! Not wide at all Blush ill go sit in the corner Blush

SlouchingPanda · 01/07/2013 09:13

Icing make sure both you and he wash your hands a lot and especially after he vomit//uses the toilet and before you prepare and eat any food/drink. It may be difficult to avoid, but worth a try.

Re. baking, my experiment was a success (cake's not wrong for breakfast if you've been up since 0500, right?). I had to find a recipe to use up some jam after making 7 pots of it the other day!

Swimming sounds good. I have taken to sitting in the garden with my feet in a bucket. Not quite the same!

evelynj · 01/07/2013 09:15

Mmmm, croissants and juice, lovely.

Slouching-so jealous of your baking-on my to do list is to make granola for post birth semi healthy energy food (& believe oatmeal increases milk supply?)

Can't believe it's July, hurray!

Dinky that is so ridiculous about the parking. When is her actual due date does anyone know?

I have no playgroup now for DS as sone for summer, eek! Cat to vets this morn then lunch soft play place with some friends so today's ticked off. went to see despicable me yest & was good so may hit the flicks again tis week-seats were pretty comfy!

Have good days all-waiting to see who the first July baby will be!

VinegarDrinker · 01/07/2013 09:17

Icing tbh if you are in the same house you have probably already been exposed to it. Second hand washing etc though. Baby will be fine if you get it but just a bit grim for you!

esme80 · 01/07/2013 09:58

Icing actually, if Im honest I am quite wide at the moment...

Dinky Im assuming the royal family is paying for a private chauffeur for anyone having a baby at st marys in july? No?

39+5 today, DS was born now. Telling bump she has all day to get out, not sure she is listening though... Oh but tomorrow is SIL and FIL birthday, maybe shes waiting for that...

Oh and thanks for info on sweeps! Think I will ask for one on thursday then.

cheekbyjowl · 01/07/2013 10:31

morning. happy july! I've just managed to break my work laptop so using the time to catch up whilst the IT dept tuts at me

thanks to everyone who advised on grobags.

abz have you left the hospital now? is all ok?

sorry so many of you are struggling to sleep. I find late night walks help before bed, and sleeping near an open window. also lots of pillows.

dinky thats shocking. what do the hosp advise? were you going to drive or take a taxi?

last week of work this week, and best of all michael buble on thursday night. if his dulcit tones don't bring on labour I'm not sure what will Grin

38 + 5

OhGood · 01/07/2013 10:39

hi all - wondered are we doing a postnatal thread also or shall we all hang in here?

photographerlady · 01/07/2013 11:00

Yay July.... Ready, Set, Give birth!

photographerlady · 01/07/2013 11:01

OhGood a postnatal thread sounds like a good idea when it's all about where you ladies would rather post. Hope things are going well :)

Persuasion · 01/07/2013 11:23

Welcome to all the newcomers, just in time for July Shock

icing wide mnetters made me snort! Glad you're feeling a little happier today. I keep having short runs of stronger contractions too, then they die out. Yesterday I had some mild diarrhoea but nothing happened overnight, it's driving me mad so I sympathise! Hopefully (for both of us) this is all good uterus preparation and when we do go into labour we'll both have 2 hour sneeze births...... In terms of the bug, it may already be too late, but thorough hand washing is worth a try. I had norovirus at Christmas and we managed to stop DH getting it by prolific use of bleach after each toilet, separate towels and thorough handwashing (if it is norovirus it needs to be with soap, and friction for at least a minute each time). Having said all that DH got a bug from work a few months ago, we did the same thing and I still got it Confused

vinegar glad you got back to sleep. Good luck wih your sweep.

dinky I'd be on the phone to the hospital to see what the arrangements are for 'normal' people. evelyn I believe the due date is being kept a secret, I wonder if shutting from the beginning of July is to prevent speculation, or because she's just reached 'term' maybe? Either way very annoying! (also Evelyn, I hope your cat is ok)

abz any update? I also didn't know they could disengage. Fingers crossed for head reengagement asap!

ohgood I think a postnatal thread is definitely going to be in order soon, and it is July! Up to those of you who have already had your babies though, I don't want to kick you out!

bigbelly4 · 01/07/2013 11:29

Hello ladies! I'm back with a beautiful baby girl, Constance Rose born yesterday morning weighing 7lb 4 oz at 38+4.

Cant remember where I posted my story so may be repeating (sorry!). I was admitted to assessment unit on Friday with mega migraine, although BP was normal they wanted to keep an eye on me overnight. Woke on Saturday feeling much better, went to the loo and promptly bled everywhere! No one was too worried as have bleed before and I have a cervical ectropian (bit like a blood blister that pops when full) but it was agreed that with everything beginning to show signs my body had had enough I would be induced.

So first attempt failed on the sat as pesary fell out! So new one put in at 5am Sunday morning, had a few niggles but nothing major, hubby arrived at 6am, when things were hotting up, having been able to move around I suddenly found myself needing to be monitored as baby's heartbeat was erratic. Moved up to delivery at half 6, and there it all went a bit scary. Heart was really struggling (going from 186 to 72bpm) so I was prepped for c section - but in meantime had to lay on left side, water broken and sat with a Dr's hand up me keeping pressure off baby's head and foetal monitor attached to head. However, Baby had other ideas about coming out the sunroof and as soon as my waters were broken, I puked and she crowned! two contractions later and she was born, happy, healthy and beautiful!

Despite all this we were allowed a 6 hour discharge and spent a lovely night as a newly extended family of 6!

wavesandsmiles · 01/07/2013 11:46

What an amazing story bigbelly, and how great to get home so quickly Smile

I've spent the morning vomiting - hoping the hyperemesis isn't worsening again, and that it is instead a result of getting just 3 hours sleep last night! I have my 36 week check up in an hour, so I really ought to get dressed Blush

I had a bump cast done on Friday and decorated it over the weekend with my DCs. Just need my little one to arrive so name and date can be added, and then I can get it varnished.

dinkystinky · 01/07/2013 12:21

Right - have dusted down stairs, cleaned our front walls (cillit bang is amazing stuff!) to the property and weeded - and still Bean is determinedly staying put. Off to go sort out the Bean corner off our bedroom shortly.

Abzs - the autocorrect on my nexus will be the undoing of me! I meant to say COOLING THE BEDROOM as much as possible. Fortunately on the pc now so any gobbledegook I come out with is all my own... Anyway, glad it amused you. Are you home now? Hope Small is co-operating now.

Vinegar - glad you got some more sleep and definitely do head to the lido. Its lovely feeling relatively weightless in the water. Though I do admit to feel abit like a hippo wallowing in the river in the serpentine yesterday. Made me feel better to at least think that the pedaloes passing by were bigger than me Grin

Icing - hope you avoid the bug. Agree with all the advice above. If at all possible, I'd have DP using a different bathroom to you too and keep towels/cups/eating utensils etc separate.

Cheek - no idea as to when DOC is due - think its mid July some time. Also no idea as to how the hospital imagine other people in labour/needing A&E or pick ups or visiting family are meant to cope - the midwives were the ones advising the hourly parking bays when I went in for my 38 week check so they clearly werent kept in the loop. We were planning on driving - as its free parking over night and extortionate hourly rates during the day normally, and I have no desire to freak out a taxi driver with my mooing noises in labour.

Ohgood- and all those with babies already, feel free to stay on here. On other antenatal threads I've been on, we've tended to all stay on the antenatal thread until most people have popped (while nearly 20 are out, there's over 60 to go!) then shift en masse to the post natal threads.

BigBelly - thanks for sharing your birth story. Glad it was a quick birth despite the scary moments and I hope you had a lovely night at home with Constance and life as a family of 6 is going well.

Waves - hope you get some rest today. A bump cast sounds lovely.

IcingTheCake · 01/07/2013 12:42

waves hope you feel better soon!

Thank you everyone for the advice and support Smile im getting stomach cramps but haven't needed to go to the loo yet Confused

dinky i think i saw somewhere its only the four spaces closest to the ward? The rest are still available to park in Smile

TotallyEggFlipped · 01/07/2013 13:02

Went in for a growth scan this morning, which showed no growth since the last one a few weeks ago. Being admitted this afternoon. Just at home trying to sort out childcare etc. I guess this means I'll have to cancel my massage & mel out with h on Wednesday Sad, but hopefully I'll be cuddling the baby by then Grin so won't be too bothered.

Right, better sort out my bag......

dinkystinky · 01/07/2013 13:28

Thanks Icing - am going to be around the area tomorrow so will check out for myself which spaces are suspended/which are still available for use as the birth centre had no real idea.

Totally - sorry that the growth scan was disappointing - at least you've got your husband back now (and an agreement on names)! Hope you manage to get childcare sorted and that your little boy/girl arrives soon so you can come home soon with the latest addition to your family. Keep us posted on that hospital wifi!

OP posts:
Thinkingof4 · 01/07/2013 13:42

totally sorry to hear that but as you say hopefully you'll be meeting your little one very soon

bigbelly amazing story, your body was obviously determined it wasn't having a section! Lovely name too

icing still sounding promising!!

vinegar is your sweep today or tomorrow? Mine is tomorrow, sounds like lots of us may be having them this week, so they are bound to work for some of us (is it 50% or did I make that up?)

dinky what a lovely day you had yesterday, and the nesting today sounds v busy too! Don't forget to put your feet up when you get the chance

slouching your baking sounds lovely, I keep meaning to bake more but never quite get round to it...

Anyway can't remember any more personals as on phone again. The 'anything happening' messages are coming thick and fast now despite being overdue 3 times before Confused
I have had a few niggles here and there but nothing significant and no plug or anything like that. As I said sweep tomorrow morning so really hoping that will get things going. Due date tomorrow Shock Can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone
39+6

esme80 · 01/07/2013 14:10

Everyone I know is driving me crazy! I mean, when this baby comes I will let them know, they dont have to ask all the time. I feel like I cant phone anyone either. Called my SIL yesterday, as soon as I said it was me I got an expectant yeeeeees??? Ehm, just calling for a chat actually!

Silver15 · 01/07/2013 14:20

Totally sorry to hear that the growth scan was disappointing. Hope you will get to meet to baby

Bigbelly congrats.

Sorry not so many personals as I'm on the phone and my mind seems to be in sleep mode today. I could not even deal with the filing. Just lying on the sofa listening to bean kicking away.

TotallyEggFlipped · 01/07/2013 15:27

So, I'm on the monitor (again). Waiting for MW to come back to examine me & see where we go from here..... Bored already.

Abzs · 01/07/2013 15:56

Still in hospital. Being checked for cholestasis now. Small has folded itself in half. Head by my right hip, feet under right ribs. Laying on its back, looking like a sun roof job.. .

shelley72 · 01/07/2013 16:24

Just trying to catch up on the news, having tough day or so, feeling very weepy and very sore, struggling to stand up straight. Have just made mistake of looking at my stomach Sad?

Anyway congrats big belly on your little girl. Totally sorry the growth scan want reassuring, but at least they are looking after you and won't be long before you meet your baby at last. And same with you abzs hopefully small will shuffle round for you soon. At least you can mumsnetSmile

And there's lots of nesting and baking going on, I had mad panic on weds to get things done then went into labour that night. Never did finish the hoovering (as I told the midwife and surgeon a million times). Still doesn't seem quite as important now!

MrsMillions · 01/07/2013 17:18

Yay for July Grin

Slouching I've been been busy in the kitchen too but not at quite the same time of day as you! My sleep problems seem to translate into a very restless first half of the night then a good second half, so whilst not what I'd like, I don't think there's any point me getting up.

Icing I only had a few mega pains yesterday and started getting excited, then had a real come-down when it amounted to nothing after giving up on my trip to the shops and retiring to sofa instead. So hate to think what I'd be feeling like in your position.

dinky I hope further investigation confirms it is only some of the parking spaces out of use.

Re DOC due date, 13th July was rumoured for a while but last week I read suggestions this was around 2 weeks later than her real date and had been leaked deliberately, which I could understand. Given the problems some of you are having already with family members hunting for news (big sympathy there), and they have the world's press to contend with too, would make sense. Apparently they did the same with Prince William's own due date.

My little one still seems to be able to rotate quite a lot in there. Would really like it to settle with back on my left so I can relax a bit about sleep positions. I'm trying to sleep on my left as much as poss but when I wake up with a sore hip sometimes I just have to swap over.

MarieKL · 01/07/2013 17:27

Congrats to Bigbelly. I really enjoyed you birth story.

Shelley I remember my belly after DS. Looked like play dough jelly, with the surface resembling the craters on the moon! I hope the soreness eases soon, and the baby blues pass quickly. I remember with DS crying because I didn't know why I was crying. Poor DH was entirely baffled.

Abzs that's quite an impressive fold! Let us know how the test results go.

Totally I hope you managed to get everything sorted. Looking forward to hearing more updates, and fingers crossed you won't be bored for too much longer!

Dinky let us know how you get on investigating parking bay options. What a nightmare. Your weekend sounds great though.

Vingear did you have your sweep today? I had mine earlier this afternoon, amd will have another Thursday if need be. Nothing happening yet, but baby was almost fully engaged and I was 1cm diluted so hopefully something will happen soon. Thinkingof4 good luck for yours tomorrow.

Slouching mmmm. When you're pg there isn't such a thing as too early for cake, especially if you've been up half the night.

Esmo I know exactly what you mean about not being able to call anyone anymore. It's so frustrating. I'm currently starting every text/call with nothing happening yet.
