oh herewego how awful, so glad you're all ok though. Was there much damage to the car or anything?

runningbear we bought the Cybex Aton new from Mamas & Papas for £99, but that's just the car seat, no base. The base we bought off ebay for about £70 iirc.

flipflump · 28/06/2013 11:29

Running bear, we also don't have isofix. We have bought a maxi cosi (but there are others available) and it uses a belted base. Seems to be the next best thing and like isofix, base remains in car and seat clicks in and out. It seems very safe, sturdy and easy to use.

flipflump · 28/06/2013 11:31

Sorry to hear about your accident herewego, that's dreadful and so frightening. Glad it wasn't too serious but scary all the same.

TripleRock · 28/06/2013 11:38

herewego goodness me! So glad you are safe and well.

Running we are using the car seat from the travel system we bought last time. Cosatto Cabi. Having checked up on Which it is a safe seat.

There are some pretty crap ones out there and Which was pretty much the only independent info I could find unless anyone knows of anyhing else?

Maxicosi group 0 infant car seats have a good reputation and are about £100 I think. Although the bases are that much again... Although I believe the bases are optional if you are not using Isofix?

TripleRock · 28/06/2013 11:46

Ion had 28 week MW appt today and have gone from bump topping the charts 2 weeks ago to having fallen off the bottom today and actually measuring loads smaller than 2 weeks ago... Hmm

On the bright side talk of GTT is out the window! On the not so bright side 1) baby is breach and 2) will be sent for growth scan if we're not back up to speed size wise in 3 weeks time. What a worry!

Also been given a mild ticking off about having gained nearly 2 stone since my booking appointment Blush Which has really put me off my lunch!

badguider · 28/06/2013 11:59

ffs! I do wish they'd all just put the scales and tapemeasures away... how can you have put on too much weight and yet have a bump that's shrunk? Confused

I really believe that the error in measuring and weighing (e.g. what you've eaten/drunk lately, what you're wearing, when you last pooed) makes it pretty much useless. And if your bump isn't growing as fast as it was or 'the average' then they shouldn't be encouraging you to under-eat by tutting at your weight gain.... grrr....

badguider · 28/06/2013 12:15

Can somebody who subscribes to Which see if the Primo Viaggio car seat with belted base here is a 'don't buy'?

We've been given it so I didn't research much (except to see we don't have isofix) and I really hope it's ok. Don't want to subscribe to Which myself though as they send so much mail....

Mooster1709 · 28/06/2013 12:32

Oh Herewego , how horrible. Glad you're ok.

And Triple I think I would be in a major mood if I was told off about weight, whilst also measuring a bit small. Also, 28 lbs by around now isn't off the scales or anything - one of my books puts it only just top of the normal range.

Have other people's stomach muscles separated? Does it always happen in pregnancy? I sat up in the bath last night and got the horrible triangular/pointy tummy thing. Hadn't noticed it before and am a bit worried (also freaked out, because it looks like something is trying to escape from there, and feels horrible and squidgy and slightly uncomfortable to touch), but DSis says it's perfectly normal. Do they just close up on their own again afterwards?

ION I am having a crap day at work today. One of those 'what else might I be qualified to do?' ones. To which the answer seems to be 'nothing'. Right now the idea of going on mat leave and never coming back is quite appealing... AND I'm stony broke, because of all the work on the house. But I do have a completely free weekend ahead. What can I do that will cheer me up, be cheap, and not involve too much exertion??

Mooster1709 · 28/06/2013 12:33

And Triple - did the mw seemed concerned that the baby is breech at this stage? When does it start to be an issue? Pretty sure mine is transverse at 31+1, or certainly not head down because all movements are low to-middle of bump and nothing in the ribs at all. Have scan on Mon so suppose will see then.

TripleRock · 28/06/2013 12:54

Yes, she was very polite and just mentioned it's something to keep an eye on/watch my portion sizes etc. A bit Blush all the same... She said she would weigh me again in 3 weeks so I do feel a bit concious now. I might tell her 'thanks, but no thanks'!

Breech is apparentely of no concern just yet, but might explain reduction in bump size as baby was transverse last time I was measured. Didn't realise it could have such a big effect on fundal height. Still, might get some extra scans out of it I suppose!

jennimoo · 28/06/2013 12:56

I think they can usually move around freely for quite some weeks yet, so breach at this stage shouldn't matter. That is unless you know you have a bicornate / heart shaped uterus! I have a couple of friends with these and it makes baby very unlikely to turn. You'd probably only know if you'd been scanned pre-pregnancy for some reason.

Kittenkatzen · 28/06/2013 13:25

mooster sorry you're having a rubbish day at work, hope it gets better soon Thanks. I am writing this from the pedicure chair at a little salon near my work, so a sneaky lunchtime pedi is my suggestion for cheering yourself up! If that's not an option maybe set some time aside this weekend for a little DIY pampering? A nice warm bath with a good book, Nivea cream facial, mini manicure...?

JammyTummy · 28/06/2013 13:57

herewego thank god you are all ok! I'm sure you must be shaken up.

mooster my tummy is like that. I was told by MW that smaller women generally get that. It also attributes to more back pain.

We've got the MaxiCosi pebble- I'm pretty sure that if you don't have isofix in your car you don't need a base for it though, as you just use a seatbelt? Correct me if I'm wrong! We've got the base so maybe I've got my wires crossed.

Have been feeling mega faint today, I think it's low blood pressure! Or possibly baby taken up all my lung space.

CharlW1 · 28/06/2013 15:24

herewego so glad everything is alright. I am off to the cotswolds for the weekend and have just packed my green notes now.

I had to go into work this morning but I told them I was working from home this afternoon as needed to go and have WC vaccine (it's a drop in clinic) but I have just woken up from an hour and a half snooze! luckily I gavenetc Friday off on holiday so will go and have WC done then! I did live having that snooze
though - definitely needed it.

Kitten as you insist will definitely be having some pampering this weekend Smile

CharlW1 · 28/06/2013 15:25
  • have got and loved have that snooze - predictive text/baby brain mush
twintrimum · 28/06/2013 15:59

Hi, I haven't posted much before but wanted to say hi. I'm at 30 weeks with twins (ds1 & ds2). Due on 2 Sept but very likely to be here by early August. I'm amazed how well I feel at the moment. I didn't stop being sick until 25 wks and I've been pretty shattered at times but so far I have no back ache etc. They are both breech so lots of hard kicks but not too much pressure on my bladder so far.

triple - I had a similar experience at my 28 wk scan. The twins were average at 24 weeks then one was off the bottom of the scale by 28 weeks (the other was down to 15th percentile). They called me in for another scan at 30 weeks and I spent most days in between worrying that they would stop growing & have to be delivered. At my 30 wk scan a few days ago they have both had a growth spurt and the smaller one is back onto the scale.

The sonographer said that if you get different people then the accuracy of the measurements can vary a bit.

Jammy - I got maxi cosi car seats then got cabriofix bases off eBay but you don't need the bases. We just drive a lot and with two of them I just want every time saver I can get!

LCR77 · 28/06/2013 16:10

herewego that sounds so frightening so glad everything ok.

Also having mw probs or rather lack of. My mw went on mat leave after my 2nd appt and have seen a different one ever since and will do for whole preg. 28 wk appt ran almost hour late last week before finally seeing another new mw and student. Previous mw forgot to record my fundal height so have to wait till next to see if all growing normally.

Was referred for anti-D injection today at the hospital but wasn't told where to go or to take my notes with me so delayed them getting sign-off for the injection. So now my mantra will be 'take your notes everywhere!'

On the plus side I have been referred to physio for PGP next week. So we'll see how that goes.

Got some good advice on leg cramps at my yoga class -massaging calves before bed and drinking tonic water. Cramps have reduced significantly since then. Mw advice was of course useless and dismissive.

Really wish there was some continuity of care as you have to repeat so much at every mw appt. Seems like I'm not the only one...

Kittenkatzen · 28/06/2013 16:26

Just got the all clear back from my GTT - no GD for me WOOHOO! Grin

Welcome twintrimum sounds like you've been having a time of it! And early August isn't very far away at all - eek!

I'm shocked at some of the awful mw care some of you have been receiving - feeling very fortunate to have had the same (lovely) mw all the way through.

Readytosettle · 28/06/2013 17:48

Mooster there's a pic of my Toblerone bump on Facebook...and i'm not small...

SGJ · 28/06/2013 20:37

Badguider - we had a Primo Viaggio with DD, and the belted base. Was brilliant. Not the lightest car seat but bigger than something like the MaxiCosi pebble which means it lasts longer and good if you end up with a long or fast growing child.

Dorita75 · 28/06/2013 21:44

Glad all is okay herewego how scary for you all.

Badguider I have the Rh- card too, given out in England as well.

DP has been talking to my tummy and the baby started wriggling! He's now massaging my calves, thanks for that tip!

jennimoo · 28/06/2013 22:14

Herewego - hope you all get over the shock soon.

I have my notes in the car now, but no rh - card so feel a little left out! Seems like a very good idea.

Belvedere · 28/06/2013 22:42

I woke up in agony this morning with my first leg cramp. Ow ow ow. It's still hurts now! Poor Dp thought in was going into labour with my screams.

frogchops · 29/06/2013 09:47

Just took delivery of two lovely babygros from debenhams, John rocha cream and blue ones (and I'm not big on buying designer stuff) but for £5 delivered for the two it was a real bargain! Have a look I think the sale is still on. Wink

frogchops · 29/06/2013 11:11

Of course I haven't just ordered the matching vests and bibs too, having found codes for 15% off and free delivery Blush
