mrspaddy · 23/06/2013 20:38

public !

badguider · 23/06/2013 21:24

Lol! At the lady in mamas and papas telling you to buy a whole "newborn" wardrobe - she would wouldn't she :)

I live in a bug city with large supermarkets, boots, mothercare all in a 20min drive. Not to mention Internet shopping with next day delivery. I find it hard to believe that we won't be able to send dh or DM or mil out for anything we need in the first weeks once we know how big he is.

badguider · 23/06/2013 21:26

That's a big city. Not a bug city Grin

weebarra · 23/06/2013 21:37

Although I did find a massive stag beetle in my living room this morning badguider.
Re baby clothes, DS1 was 7lbs 7 and DS2 was 8lbs 8 and we did use our newborn stuff. DS1 was v short so found Next stuff really flappy and long. He also had hellish reflux so we got through a lot of clothes!

Fozziebearmum2be · 23/06/2013 22:22

Mrs Paddy-was in Next in Sat and the shop lady said the sale was in 3/4 weeks Smile

Kittenkatzen · 24/06/2013 07:36

Morning all Smile

Had a busy weekend of spring cleaning/clearing out the nursery followed by SIL's surprise baby shower yesterday which was lovely but I still don't want one

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend, off to catch up with all your news now!

frogchops · 24/06/2013 07:52

Can I ask why u don't want a baby shower kitten? A friend has offered to organise one for me...but I'm undecided :-/

Kittenkatzen · 24/06/2013 07:53

geesescareme I did the exact same tesco shop as you this weekend - DH stood slightly away from me scuffing his heels like a schoolboy whilst I rifled through the racks of £2.50 granny pants looking for size 16s GrinGrin. Might do that again next week just for giggles!

Ladies who've done the full fasting GTT - any tips for not passing out when they take the blood? I'm a bit of a fainter anyway and am really worried that after 12 hours sans food I'm going to take one look at the needle and be out for the count!!

Kittenkatzen · 24/06/2013 08:01

frog its a combination of things really - I don't enjoy being the centre of attention for a start. And the idea of being sat in my front room surrounded by people expectantly watching me open a big pile of gifts, whilst lovely, absolutely mortifies me! And then there's all the "enforced fun" - silly games etc .

It's the reason my hen do consisted of me plus my 4 closest friends having afternoon tea in a posh hotel followed by a few bottles glasses of bubbly and then home. Basically I'm a bit of an antisocial bugger I guess Smile

That said, I've been to a few baby showers for other people and they have all been lovely and the preggo in question has had a good time so I've nothing against them - just not for me!

jennimoo · 24/06/2013 08:11

Kitten - why not suggest the afternoon tea type thing instead if a 'shower'? And you can say no gifts or games I guess.

My friends don't seen to do them which is fine by me, but a girly afternoon sounds like fun!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 24/06/2013 08:17

Hello mrspaddy.

Thanks Fozzie, I really want the ladybird suit! Blush Poor baby, I dressed DD1 up like a bear, and I've still got those outfits too. 3-4 weeks, I can wait that long.

I've been sent an appointment to see an anaesthetics consultant at the maternity hospital. Confused It was mentioned weeks and weeks ago that they might want to refer me in case I needed an epidural as I have/had a hair line fracture in my lower back. Thing is, nothing's changed from last time, and I had an epidural then (EMCS) and had no problems. I'm confused as to why they think I need to see anyone now. Anyone else been asked to speak to an anaesthetist?

I have one newborn sized baby grow, and the rest 0-3. Shock I think I might have to do as suggested and buy some, but keep them in stand by. DD1 only managed to squeeze into the one newborn sized thing as she was too long.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 24/06/2013 08:20

Kitten, drink plenty of water. Should make it easier to take the blood, and hopefully to keep enough of it flowing to your head so you don't get too woozy. I don't remember them limiting how much water you can drink for a GTT.

andadietcoke · 24/06/2013 08:27

kitten I didn't feel great after mine at all - about 90 mins after having the glucose, and after two lots of bloods. I went to lie down and that didn't really help either. Drink lots of water and wear as little as you can - I was red hot at times. Take something to have straight after the last set of bloods as well. Cold pasta salad would be great - I didn't feel better until I forced risotto down later on.

Also with you re showers - have suggested afternoon tea with a very small select group instead (but hoping she'll forget about it!). I also don't like being the centre of attention, and they feel a bit grabby - present for the shower, then a present when the baby comes...

mrsmango I had my anaesthetic review last week. First pregnancy so I actually found it quite useful, especially as he told me that my hospital like all multiple mums to have an epidural so got to go through all the risks etc - feel much better informed now. If it's not your first then I'm not sure how valuable it would be, but guess they're just ticking boxes?

Kittenkatzen · 24/06/2013 09:43

That's not a bad idea jennimoo...I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out by not having one (everyone who would be invited will come and visit anyway iyswim) but any excuse for a girly get together! Smile

Thanks for the blood testing tips ladies, will defo take lots of water with me!

fl0b0t · 24/06/2013 10:07

:) Hi all
My friend is organising a baby shower, except it's more like a garden party. No gifts (unless people are desperate to), but instead we've basically invited all our friends and plan to do lots of wagers on due date/sex/name/weight etc etc and eat cake! :)

I've been pretty thirsty, and clearly not drinking enough as my pee is dark yellow all the time! I used to drink like a fish (as I exercise a reasonable amount)- I'm always thirsty. But it seems harder and harder to keep drinking enough!

I plan to totally dress baby in baby grows as long as I can get away with it. And silly outfits. None of this grown up clothing malarky! :)

I am typing this to the sound of kitchen demolition :-S

Emotionally I find myself a bit of a mess in the evenings. I love alone time with my husband- we do get a good amount of it and I'm starting to realise that this will all be changing. I think that scares me the most- the change in our relationship. I gotta say, I think we're pretty awesome together, and I'm worried about the change to that. I get a bit needy!!

RunningBear78 · 24/06/2013 10:16

Hi all, sounds like a busy shopping weekend all round.
Joskar well done for getting out and about, wheelchair sounds pretty dreadful, but at least it isn't permanent! Re buggys/travel system. Work out what you think you might be doing on a daily basis and how you might want to travel/carry/transport the baby for those things. I hear the dirt track, but but how often will you walk up and down it with a buggy? If you are a walker, might you find a sling easier? But then a pushchair that you can pop a car seat on?

We finally bought some actual baby things this weekend! Two little grow bag sleeping bags and some bottles. Went to mothercare for (yet another) bra and they had a load of things half price so seemed like a good time to buy. Nearly want to cry every time I walk past the little sleeping bags - dumped at the edge of the very full nursery. Super cute with stripes and little elephants Grin

Feeling very pleased not to be having the gtt, I honestly think I'd be seriously ill if I didn't eat for 12 hours. I'm bad enough after about 4 at the moment! I reckon I'm getting through about 6 pints of water a day, but have been doing since almost the beginning. We've been upping our blood volume by about 25% - and growing a baby which is mostly water of course! - so I wouldn't be too worried about liquid intake.

Luckily most of girlfriends live miles away all over the country, and I only know two people locally so get to avoid the baby shower thing. My hen day was also about 8 of us having lovely tea and buggering around relaxing and being very grown up in a spa. Putting 5 athletic and competative swimmers in a 12m pool might not have been the most sensible idea, but it was great fun, and we had the pool to ourselves somehow Grin

Workmen have just turned off the water. Guess who decides she really really needs a pooh instantly. Husband kindly tells me there's enough in the tank for one flush. WHAT IF IT NEEDS TWO?!

ahem.

Mooster1709 · 24/06/2013 12:29

Fl0b0t Grin - we're having our bathrooms done at present so whenever I need the loo I have to ask the builder if I can use it, while he waits outside Blush. Spending a lot of time in the office...

I too was planning on sticking to babygros for as long as possible - if I had the choice I'd wear one 24/7, so it seems cruel to put a small baby in proper clothes. In fact, while on mat leave I was pretty much planning on only ever wearing pyjamas or a tracksuit, so the double standard would be particularly unfair.

I got so confused about which big pants to buy that I have ended up spending £100 on the m&s website for them to send me a pack of every kind they do (will send most of them back, rather than keep a million pairs). I will have a thrilling evening of comparing massive pants when the parcel arrives.

badguider · 24/06/2013 13:05

The boy seems to have finally turned head down today at 29+4 - yipee!!!

He has firmly had his feet burried deep in my pelvis since the very first movement I felt and I was beginning to worry he was stuck that way round as it was NEVER any different, but today he's definitely kicking up towards the top right of the bump.

I know he could still end up breech at the crucial moment but I'm just glad to know that he can turn the right way. If he's done it once hopefully he can do it again when it matters :)

Belvedere · 24/06/2013 13:30

Not a great start to Monday morning for me. :(. Just had a call from the midwife who says my glucose test is borderline and now they'll have to treat me for Gd. I'm so so upset, had a proper melt down at work.
I presume there goes my lovely water birth in a midwife led unit? Anyone got any experience?
I'm even more upset as my normal midwife didn't want me to have the test then I saw another one that pushed for it, then my results came back and the first midwife said they were fine and the next one questioned them. Ahhh
I realise there has to be a cut of and they are only doing their job but I'm so so sad. Was really enjoy my straight forward pregnancy with my own birth options and now it feels like that's out if the window. Got to see midwife this afternoon so hopefully she will answer my questions and hold my hand.

CharlW1 · 24/06/2013 14:28

Hi Belvedere I've been diagnosed with GD and was told that if I can control my blood sugar with diet then it won't change any birth plans at all. I have to test my blood sugars 4 times a day, see a consultant every couple of weeks and am now under the care of the diabetes midwife. As your results are borderline then they will probably tell you that you can control it with diet. Don't worry too much as the midwife shield nice you loads of advice. On the plus side you get more scans if your baby (I am in today for a 30 week scan and having another one at 32 weeks and then 36 weeks).

Kittenkatzen · 24/06/2013 14:33

Awww belvedere that sucks big time, especially if its only borderline Sad. I think it depends on how well you can control it with diet alone as to how much it affects your birth choices - from what i've read ahead o my test on thursday i think you might still be able to have a water birth but in hospital rather than a mw led unit? Hopefully charl will be along soon with some wise words as she's already been diagnosed.

fl0 I'm with you on the worrying about how things are going to change - we have a nice amount of couple time at the moment too which I know I'll miss, along with the flexibility to just pop out to wherever . DH doesn't seem to fazed by it at the moment though. It's all change for the better of course.

mooster GrinGrin at your mammoth pant shop - I wonder what the M&S packers must have thought?!

And yy to babygros for as long as possible. Also loving the fact that Halloween and Christmas are not too long to wait for the silly outfit photo opportunities!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 24/06/2013 14:36

Hi all,

Not been on for ages, hope everyone is well?

Just to say, have been nappy shopping - and Totsbots now do stripy nappies! Am beyond excited as, ten years ago, when I last bought nappies, they were deeply unexciting...

As you were...

JammyTummy · 24/06/2013 14:44

Nice baby article my friend emailed me today:
www.telegraph.co.uk/women/mother-tongue/10127370/New-mother-Heres-Bryony-Gordons-heartfelt-A-Z-guide-for-the-Duchess-of-Cambridge.html

I really need to get some big pants. I really dun wanna. I know I have to! Also really need to sort out some comfy clothes for post baby, as I'm not the biggest joggy bottom etc wearer right now, so don't want to end up with no clean clothes when the baby comes.

DH and I have also been having lots of just me and him time, it's been really so so nice. Not doing anything particular- having dinner in the garden, going for evening dog walks, going to bed early, it's literally been awesome. Also very aware that that is about to drastically change in no time.
