Urghh have been really grumpy this afternoon. Shouting at the kids to stop arguing, eat their dinner, get their shoes & coats on, find swimming kit, get in car etc etc. don't know how am going to manage this with 3 of them in a few weeks time!

pinkbear82 · 13/05/2013 17:58

Has anyone else got shoulder pain? Mines my left shoulder, below the blade sort of the bra line. I've had it on and off for two weeks but the ache and pain is getting worse.
Did mention to midwife last week I felt as tho I had pulled my shoulder and she didn't say anything. But I am starting to wonder if I should go se the gp - lifting and stretching sets it off and I figure I'm going to be needing to do a lot of that soon without it hurting....

With movements my regular MW said they shouldn't get any less but the patterns and type of movement it likely to change. If worried phone and they would check. But at ante natal the MW there said it can get less as baby gets less room and depends on position for being able to feel the movements..... Guess it comes down to us and gut feelings on this one!

AlohaMama · 13/05/2013 18:04

pinkbear, I get a lot of upper back ache now (between and below the shoulder blades), which I think is entirely due to having to bend over more to reach things. So things like washing up, preparing food, as I can't stand as close to the sink, I'm having to kind of lean forward. It is definitely much worse at the end of the day, or if I've been doing a lot of that kind of thing. Could it be something similar? If so, then once the bump is gone it should ease off.

pinkapples · 13/05/2013 18:05

Wow sounds like everyone's had a busy day! I had midwife this morning got a shouting at for 'not noticing baby!' As I'm busy all day I don't notice her moving and I was told towards the end it is really important to notice any changes I said she moved in the evening (or at least I notice in the evening) so was ok she heard heartbeat I to am head down but not engaged yet Grin talked about birth preferences/plan and said we weren't that bothered as one way plan or not this baby is coming out... I told her I'd like to have baby in the water but apart from that will just hope for the best Grin

Think baby heard midwife tho as she has just started a nice little rib roll! Very uncomfortable!

MrsBri · 13/05/2013 18:12

Pink, I'd get the shoulder looked at if I were you. I've had impingement before and it's nasty, so it's better to get it looked at.

Regarding movement, probably best I'm a worrier then, isn't it?!

ella0 · 13/05/2013 18:25

I'm lucky to feel 10 movements a day (anterior placenta). I felt more when she was breech as I could feel kicks low down, below the placenta, but now she's head down I feel even less.

In one of the antenatal classes, our midwife said said that you should feel the same amount of movement towards the end - even in labour - it's just more likely to be squirming from around now (over 36 weeks) rather than kicks.

learnermummy · 13/05/2013 18:50

I've pulled something in my left shoulder too. Really want to put some deep heat on it but midwife says no Hmm.

Steffanoid · 13/05/2013 19:24

how you guys are still moving about getting in cars etc is beyond me, my mum has all but banned me from getting behind the wheel and doing anything, even got told if I need anything she'll come the 7 miles to me with things when she's really very busy with her stuff (she's an exam marker, ferries my sister about because she's too lazy to take herself anywhere and has got a startup business which were at a farmer's market for on Saturday and she's low on stock) so apparently im not even allowed to walk about 100 yards to the shop now, got growth scan on weds and got told either dp has it off or she's taking me! this is the woman who declared im pregnant not ill when I pulled the muscles in.my ribs and the pgp started!
have been told by her she thinks im close to being kept in on Wednesday if the dwelling in my feet (left one only) and hands hasn't gone down,
I think she might be more bothered than me!
can anybody tell im the baby in our family?

Hawkmoth · 13/05/2013 19:38

I've banned myself from driving, it hurts too much to get in and out of my little car!

My parents have been away and are back tomorrow, not looking forward to telling them I've been signed off.

redwellybluewelly · 13/05/2013 19:43

I'm ok driving if baby is back to back but when it sticks its bum in my ribs then its more challenging.

MW told me today that I have a front placenta? Thats nice to know! However I'm now under extremely strict instructions that any less than ten movements in twelve hours and its straight to delivery suite. Thing is I'm not certain I get ten batches of movement a day even on the busiest days.

I'm cancelling all things for this week (I can work from home three days) and seeing if intensive rest helps. If baby continues to have few movements MW agrees the ELCS will be brought forward. Fun.

So. Hospital bag priority tomorrow!

MrsBri · 13/05/2013 20:18

I've not driven since November as I used to get the train to work and DH insists on ferrying me about when I need to go somewhere.

It got quite uncomfortable last week when baby dropped. Now he's bounced back up again I'm finding it more bearable!

I'm dreading the trip to the next town when I'm in labour though :-/

Littlemissexpecting · 13/05/2013 20:22

Hello everyone. I feel like I've missed loads! Just got back from our babymoon. It was a very wet weekend but luckily the hotel had a pool etc.
Anyone else getting bad swelling in feet? Mw says its just water retention but i'm struggling to wear anything other than flipflops which don't really work in the rain!
With regards to hospital bags. I have a small gym holdall for me & baby's changing bag for him.
Still need to pack snacks, clothes for me, notes and phone charger.

Steffanoid · 13/05/2013 20:44

little miss my left foot swelled yesterday, glad I got dp to pay attention to normal size a few days ago and he'd said it was swollen, all I did was walk round the supermarket, had feet up and cool today and it's gone back to normal, id rather my feet go than my hands, haven't worn my rings for a week or two now...

redwellybluewelly · 13/05/2013 21:01

I miss my wedding ring, feel very self conscious without it.

A tip I was told for swollen feet was a bucket of deep cool water (tummy tubs work well) which is more effective at reducing swelling than just a bowl. Something to do with pressure from deeper water.

MadameJ · 13/05/2013 21:14

Evening ladies, how are we all doing? I had my final consultant appointment today and was congratulated on "being more pregnant than before" (DD was born just before 34 weeks) and I have being discharged, I am hoping that baby doesn't think this is a good reason to arrive soon!!

Is anyone else struggling with back ache? I am really uncomfortable today and feel so heavy that everything has seemed a strain, I am thrilled to still be pregnant but boy is it hard work being this large!

redwellybluewelly · 13/05/2013 21:46

Congratulations indeed MadameJ! May you go onto term and a blissful healthy labour!

I'm 36weeks today. Blimey. It was only Saturday just gone that I realised I'd tipped into the 'slog' stage.

I find I get backache if I don't wear my bump support band or if baby is lying low.

MadameJ · 13/05/2013 21:52

Ah thankyou redwellybluewelly thats what we are hoping for Grin

Littlemissexpecting · 13/05/2013 22:00

I also miss my wedding ring Hmm

redwellybluewelly · 13/05/2013 22:06

Ok. Pregnancy nutty idea for tonight, thoughts appreciated, we have about six blankets from DC1 (but two are hers IYSWIM) so I wanted one DC2 can have as his/her own.

Its a wool cotton knit and I'm wondering about washing it then sleeping with it for the next few weeks so that when baby arrives it can be wrapped in something which is comforting. Apparently a baby can tell its mother apart from other people by smell very very soon after its born.

What do you think? Crazy lady talking?

pinkapples · 13/05/2013 22:12

That is a nice idea that I'd not heard of before I wonder if it works?

SunnyL · 13/05/2013 22:14

Dunno Red but it seems to be similar to the advice they give for introducing dogs! We've been advised to take a blanket or babygro home and put it in the dogs bed so she will be familiar with babys scent before it comes home.

Started reading the baby whisperer tonight. Its not horrifically new age-ish for me but i have snorted a couple of times in derision.

redwellybluewelly · 13/05/2013 22:19

here is a link

My thought was that if baby and I were separated for any reason after the birth and didn't get that skin to skin then at least it would have my scent on its blanket.

redwellybluewelly · 13/05/2013 22:23

I have to confess that three years after becoming a parent I have yet to read a parenting book. I like the Dr Sears website and I've picked up a few tips here and there from other people's copies but don't own one. All of them seem to have flaws!

Interesting about the dog and baby introduction, friends seem to have mixed luck with new baby and pets.

learnermummy · 13/05/2013 22:43

We did that first time with our dog Sunny. Last one was home birth but she wasn't interested in the slightest!

It's a nice idea red. After my two were born I would often sleep with one of their comfort blankets then give if to them the next night to help them settle. Can't hurt to try.

pinkbear82 · 13/05/2013 22:52

red you are right. babies can tell the different smell of Mum within a short time.something to do with hormones and milk production if I remember rightly. so I would think blanket/toy hugging a good theory! And a nice thing to do anyways.

my one remaining cat has become very demanding since her brother went awol. I brought a glass of milk to bed as I fancied it, went for a wee to come back and find her lapping out of the glass! no milk for me Sad
