Oh Caz that' such sad news and an awful decision to be faced with. My dog is nearly three and I already dread the day we have to say goodbye to him. I'm not one of these owners who pampers their pets and treats them like a child, but he is such a great companion - he always understands my moods and is very playful. I can't wait for the baby to meet and fall in love with him like we have.

Here's hoping for a rare but possible recovery.

SeriousStuff · 18/04/2013 12:51

Right, I'm procrastinating here (really should be working!) but just for fun, are any of you already convinced by the sex of your baby?

I'm absolutely certain that ours is a boy - every time I refer to it, I think boy, or when I think of buying clothes and toys, I think boy. I don't know why! I'm from a family of mainly girls so maybe it's wishful thinking!

Yesterday, we decided on names (I know!) and I picked the boy's first. The girl name was an afterthought...

roxvox · 18/04/2013 12:57

Afternoon all,

Sorry to hear about your dog caz. I hope he becomes one of the '3' dogs that the vet can refer to in the future.

Congrats bowlfull. I could hear my baby kicking too and we think we may have heard a hiccup (it was a quick, sharp thud). DH couldn't come to the appointment so I asked the midwife if I could record it on my phone, and she was more than happy to let me do so!

DH seems pretty adamant now that he doesn't want to find out the sex. At first I thought I would be able to swing him around again, then I got angry that some random person could influence him so heavily over a decision we had already made together, and now I am coming around to the idea of not finding out.
Trying to reason with him as to why I want to know the sex has proved difficult and, unsurprisingly, 'because I just do' hasn't really had much power and after much debate I am starting to think that it might be quite nice to leave it until he/she is born. I am still not convinced though so if anyone has any advice to offer on either option then I would love to hear it!

As for names, we have a few that we have decided to keep secret from our friends and families. I think that, regardless of whether we find out the sex or not, we will aim to give birth with a couple of name ideas in mind, and then narrow it down once we have a baby in our arms. There are loads of boy names I like, but some of them have been 'used' by cousins so I wouldn't want to copy them... For instance I love the name Ethan but my cousin has named his son that. As for girl names, we are struggling a bit more but have some ideas in mind.

roofio87 · 18/04/2013 12:58

I think we're having a girl, again for no real reason but I did myself thinking of the baby as a she. I really don't mind either way so defo want to find out because I'm worried I'll feel disappointed if its a boy if though I won't be!!

Haylebop12 · 18/04/2013 13:02

serious convinced I'm having a girl and even have a certainty that she will be 8lb 1oz.

I've decided that on the name front I'm going to give dh a piece of paper, and ill have one. We have to write our top 3 names down. If any match then they have to be considered seriously,

MoN my dh is David too. I think he quite like David as a mn but my first name suggestions don't flow to well with it really.

MotherOfNations · 18/04/2013 13:11

I think I'd like to go for an unusual Gaelic name but one that's not too difficult to pronounce. My 3 girls all have quite unusual names. My two youngest have Kurdish and Moroccan fathers so I took names from those cultures.
You're realising now why I'm called MotherOfNations Grin

thethreeblondies · 18/04/2013 13:20

I already have an Olivia and Eleanor I like Amelia for a girl and Edward for a boy (or maybe Harrison) currently working on DH who would like a family name for a boy and is suggesting Walter! (not really sure it goes!) I didn't really consider popularity when I chose Olivia and although it was no1 I only know a few (1 other in her school) I think a names popularity depends greatly on the area.

Haylebop12 · 18/04/2013 13:34

blondies I love Olivia and that with Eleanor definitely go with Amelia (which I also, although biased obv, love).

Finding boys names a lot harder!

cherrycherry41 · 18/04/2013 13:34

Im definately expecting another HUGE baby, 10lb 11oz was the last one... 95% certain i shall be having an ELCS this time!
Totally convinced this one is a boy, no reason really. I thought last one was a girl and i was right so who knows Wink
Names-wise, we had a surprise last time so prepared a boys name and a girls name. Picked Savannah Grace for a girl (which we used!) and Archer for a boy (Archie for short). Think that is pretty much the boys name this time also. So far for girls we like Violette, Lavinia, Aurora, Autumn, Lydia and Persephone. Think we are ditching Persephone and Aurora as we've had alot of Hmm reactions and id rather not deal with it.
16 week appt on monday, hoping to hear a nice heartbeat! Smile

Warlin · 18/04/2013 13:34

caz so sorry about your dog. Have you insurance as they would cover surgery? A slipped disk in humans is repairable so hope they can do something for him/ her. I lost may 13 year old balck lab a few years and it took me a long time to get over her. We then got a new labrador puppy who is now two and my first baby! She is just one of the family and I dread the day that we have difficult decisions to make with her. Thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for some improvement. DH wants a cat too but it's not really a good time....maybe when the babies are a bit older. I really hope my kids are big animal lovers as I am. It's so cute already that ds1 just loves the dog, even though he's only 10 months.

Welcome Wilma and congrats! 5 kids...wow!

Natalie I have had horrible dreams the last 2 nights about DH cheating on me. My friend in work was due to come back from mat leave last week and she has just found out her husband has been cheating on her the whole way through her pregnancy until now (baby is 7 months). She is distraught obviously and has kicked him out. I trust my husband 100% but I think the shock and she has been on my mind so much is obviously making for uncomfortable dreams..arghh! How horrific....what type of guy would do that Shock

Smitten1981 · 18/04/2013 13:57

Right, waterproof mascara is on, make up done just started getting ready for my CVS this afternoon. I'm trying not to overthink things and just go with it.

Hopefully next week this time I can join back in with all the baby discussions.

Thanks for all your kind words over the past few days. I'll keep you updated.

Wickedgirl · 18/04/2013 14:59

Wilma..... I am 15 weeks with baby 4 and my uterus is just under my belly button too. Maybe you just grow quicker the more children you have?

If this ones a girl, we have Amelie, Lumen or Eva. For a boy we have Theo, William or Leo

pinkbuttons · 18/04/2013 15:17

Thinking of you smitten Wishing you the best of luck xx

We really struggle with boys names, I love Ds's name and finding it hard to think of a name that I would like as much, but not sure if its just grown on me more now hes here. Girls name we ae sorted as it is the name we were going to call DS if he was a girl. I love Noah and Oscar for a boy but DH doesnt like either :(

Soupqueen · 18/04/2013 16:01

Hello all, I'm back in the land of the Internet! House move went smoothly, although goodness knows when we'll have unpacked all the boxes....

Smitten, I haven't had a chance to read back over the 15 pages I missed yet, but am guessing you're in a similar position to me. Sending you hugs and thoughts. Hope the CVS goes well and you get the all clear.

I was booked for CVS yesterday, but changed my mind. I think I panicked myself into it after hearing the news, being in the middle of moving house didn't help. I'm now booked in for an amnio on Monday 29 instead. I swither back and forth between being sure that everything is fine and alternatively trying to forget that I'm pregnant in case it all goes wrong.

Right, 15 pages of catching up!

Warlin · 18/04/2013 16:25

Good luck smitten..hopefully by this stage it's all over and you are resting and being pampered. Keeping everything crossed for you xx

BowlFullofJelly · 18/04/2013 16:27

Welcome back soup, glad to hear that the move went well. Best of luck for the amnio.

Just found out from my boss that I got a nice payrise! Was pretty sure that it was going to be negligible as I told him I was preggers just before they were confirmed, so pretty chuffed! Good to know that employeers don't always look on pregnant women negatively.

Might have to go out and celebrate after that news and hearing heartbeat earlier.
