Welcome back oh graduated elderberries. Let us discuss the delights of being over-30 first-timers with google obsessions Grin

And it has only just occurred to me that being on the 75th centile of the growth chart means possible big baby Shock

Something else to worry about....

HazleNutt · 30/04/2013 11:29

they still have time to adjust and I don't think those measurements are that accurate anyway. I've heard many stories when the baby was pronounced whopper before birth but was just average, and vice versa.

Alexandra6 · 30/04/2013 11:32

Yay to good scans! Congrats Mother, my 12 week scan is two weeks today and I'm feeling nervous! Must be an amazing feeling to get past that point, although I already know I'll be anxious the whole time, hopefully less anxious after that. And hazle great news about yours being in position and a non-whopper.

Not so yay on the leaking boobage cavort but at least your 'good' boob is still functioning ok! Oh and brave I'd be terrified about non-movement, glad yours has livened up. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine, he was just asleep too - her baby was born yesterday Smile

Purplemonster · 30/04/2013 12:00

Ooof just been for my whooping cough jab (really know how to enjoy my days off work don't I - bloods taken yesterday and vaccination today, sick of needles!) was all fine until I walked out of the surgery on the way back to my car (no bloody parking anywhere near, it's a massive problem where I live, quaint fishing ports are not designed for cars) and suddenly went all funny and though I was going to faint.

Made it home in one piece and I'm ok now but Cavort and Janey if you're having yours in the next couple of weeks take it steady straight after just in case, don't want you all keeling over in the car park!

BraveLilBear · 30/04/2013 12:16

Bless you Purple! That sounds horrible - if that were me, I daresay I'd have walked straight back in and moaned a plaintive cry of 'help'!

Are you feeling ok now?

Am happy to report that my little monkey is having fun rolling around in my pelvis - I suspect that's where it was hiding yesterday, behind my placenta. Except now it's kicking me in my lower intestine. Sooo not complaining tho Grin

Good plan on the boob leakery prevention ahem front Cavort. Am taking notes for when/if I encounter the same anorak-inducing challenge!

Morning all! Good news on the scans mother and hazle - becoming more 'real' for us by the day! Have to say mother I echo what cavort said, only really started to feel at all real once I could feel movement, at about 20 weeks or so...

Baby Janey had a quiet day on Saturday too. It was weird - nothing would wake him/her and only had teeny movements pretty infrequently. Back to usual kicking self on Sunday and yesterday though - wonder if it had moved slightly so that I couldn't feel the movements so much?

Started washing babygrows this morning. I feel very, very positive that this baby won't be coming until elcs at 39 weeks or induction at 40 (for various reasons doesn't look like I'll be going overdue). However, I think I will feel better about it all if I'm slightly more prepared. Never mind not having a roof and the house being a complete tip, as long as my hospital bag is all packed there's no need to frey hey Wink

janey1234 · 30/04/2013 12:39

Oh and thanks purple for the warning! Had mine last week and no such dizziness. Arm was a bit sore to sleep on for a couple of days though - and cleverly they put it in my left arm - the side you're supposed to try to sleep on! You'd think they'd think that one through?!

janey1234 · 30/04/2013 12:51

Argh, sorry, questions to ask you all...

What are you all taking in terms of nightwear? I know you're supposed to take dark colours (for obvious, non-glamorous reasons) so was planning on a dark, button up nightie or two. Can't find any though?! Any tips?

Also - what the hell do you do about bras for those early days? Did you say hazle that it's one down in back size vs current and two up in cup? Or can you get soft, flexible ones do you think?

Alexandra6 · 30/04/2013 12:55

Oh another question I meant to ask! I'm not taking any supplements as have heard it's best to just eat well and you get everything you need (am taking folic acid of course) but on the weekend, two people said they took pregnancy vitamin tablets and I really should. Are you all doing that and which type? Now paranoid I've left it too late! I've never rated supplements over just eating well but now I'm not sure!

Cavort · 30/04/2013 13:15

Alex I think just Folic Acid and Vitamin D are recommended. Anything else else is personal choice.

Janey I have bought this sexy tent-like number for the birth.

HazleNutt · 30/04/2013 13:31

janey I got a Bravissimo nightshirts in purple and black, with built-in bra, as I need the support and can't stand my boobs flopping around.

As for nursing bras, the advice I most often read is to check your size around 38 weeks and then get a back size down and 2 cups up. But that of course does not mean that all boobs will grow the same way, so yes, a more flexible one is probably a good idea until you know what size you will really be.

alex I took iron, folic acid and general pregnancy multivitamins.

janey1234 · 30/04/2013 14:38

Alex - I've been taking pregnancy multivitamins. Am glad too as my iron levels are now apparently a bit low (despite eating loads of iron rich foods) so would have been even lower without them.

Cavort - that is sexy Wink. Hazle - know what you mean about built in bra - I hate 'going free' so will either get one of those, or cavorts plus bra underneath. No way am I letting these loose now - let alone if they get bigger! Oh, and cavort - neither of mine are working yet. Weirdly jealous of your one working boob.

HazleNutt · 30/04/2013 15:04

I went up 2 back sizes pretty much the minute I got pregnant, but suddenly have gone down a back size, rib cage getting smaller again. I wonder if this means that the baby is engaged, forgot to ask during the scan.

Purplemonster · 30/04/2013 18:14

I've only been taking vitamin D Alex (and of course folic acid earlier) and its fine, that's all the midwives recommend. I can't take any of the pregnancy vits as they all have iron in them but the midwife didn't seem to think I'd be missing out on anything not having them so I think it's just a case of doing what feels best for you.

On reflection I've remembered that I had exactly the same reaction last time I had vaccinations about three years ago so it's obviously just me not a pregnancy thing, had completely forgotten about it and I'm absolutely fine now, it's literally a 5-10 minute thing. Weird huh?

I've been shopping, I bought a selection of nightwear as I couldn't find exactly what I wanted but having been reminded of Cavort's sexy little number I may take half of it back and just buy that as they didn't have it I store but it's exactly the sort of thing I was after.

I have nightwear, an emergency stash of nappies, a few maternity pads, a pack of wipes, some cotton wool and two 'tiny baby' babygrows just in case. What more could a girl possibly need? Can go back to being lackadaisical and relaxed for another few weeks now Grin

MotherOfCleo · 30/04/2013 18:16

Alex I take the asda cheapy pregnancy ones, basically because I have been going on and off food so fast I thought it was best to top up Smile

Oh and Brave I'm 12+5, edd 7th November

Cavort · 01/05/2013 08:59

Well I have been up all night with what I thought at first was just insomnia, but it then developed into feeling quite ill and now I have a really dodgy stomach so I have binned work for my first sick day since getting pg and I am staying near the toilet in bed feeling sorry for myself Sad

I had a few quite scarily painful contractions in the night to the point where I wondered if labour was starting, but it was just the start of said dodgy stomach, which is a relief that baby is not coming today Smile

janey1234 · 01/05/2013 09:05

So I went to my first NCT class last night. DP and I nearly ruined it for everyone, by getting there first, and waiting outside the nursery door where it was being held. We kept ringing the doorbell, and there was no answer. Everyone else turned up two by two, until there were 16 of us waiting there - for 20 minutes - and still no answer at the door. Anyway, it then turned out there were two doors, and DP and I were at the wrong one. Felt a bit bad that us going to the wrong door meant that 8 relatively heavily pregnant women had to stand in the cold for so long!

Anyway it was pretty good. I particularly liked the fact they used a teeny tiny baby doll to show the decent through the pelvis. It looked so easy as the head could only have been about 6cm across! She said she'd bring a more realistically sized doll next week Confused. Some of the people seemed lovely - but it was a very quiet group, I had to keep shutting myself up! I'm really bad though as I kept getting the giggles, as there were two couples there who literally didn't say a single word for the whole two hours. For the last 40 minutes one girl was sat with her handbag on her lap looking bored and desperate to go, whilst her DH was playing games on his iphone! Weirdly one of the things I liked most was seeing women as pregnant as me, and realising that my bump is in fact very averagely sized

janey1234 · 01/05/2013 09:09

Oh Cavort cross post! Poor you, that sounds shit. Sorry if TMI but I've definitely not got what you've got, but let's just say that my old constipation problem has disappeared Blush and all is far from normal in that respect. Has been like this for a couple of weeks - wondering if this is how it is for the duration?
Anyway, really hope you're feeling marginally better. Look after yourself.

BraveLilBear · 01/05/2013 10:06

Oh Cavort sending some happy thoughts your way.

Tummy trouble sucks - I'm same as you Janey very much seesawing between the two and have been for a while, thankfully without reachng the extreme ends of the spectrum.

The NCT class sounds fun Wink and lol at everyone copying you - it's their own fault so don't feel bad, you pioneer you Wink

Off to see the MW. Have a fun morning all!

Cavort · 01/05/2013 11:03

I think it's a sad reflection of my current life that I get excited about other people's MW appointments. Hope it goes well Brave Smile

What a lovely sunny day to be stuck indoors Sad

HazleNutt · 01/05/2013 11:17

Poor Cavort, hopefully nothing serious.

It's a day off here, May is a good month from that perspective, some kind of holiday pretty much every week.

Purplemonster · 01/05/2013 12:05

Oh no Cavort, hope you feel better soon.

My antenatal classes start tomorrow night at my local children's centre, I've got three weeks of listening to the midwife and then on the fourth week I have to stand up and be a professional and give a talk to the group. Could be interesting!

BraveLilBear · 01/05/2013 12:26

Lol at image of Purple doing a jazz hands decloaking in week 4 Smile

All good at MW thanks... bump measuring exactly 28cm, heartbeat ticketyboo, and baby lying in a transverse hammock position. I will get another scan for LLP (which is quite an exciting thought at seeing a nearly fully cooked Bear before s/he emerges).

And she gave me a leaflet on PGP, but said that if gets worse before next appt to call them and they can get wheels in motion re physio etc.

Positive thoughts for Cavort... umm least you don't need to worry about the ageing effects of sunshine today Wink

Hope you feel better soon.

OP posts:
Quodlibet · 02/05/2013 08:44

Cavort I hope you are recovered today.
Purple what is it you do that will mean the jazz-hands antenatal reveal? Am intrigued!

I am finding this week a bit tough - a full on week at work in a place that is freezing cold and smells of cabbage, with a long commute each way. The smell is making me nauseous and I am feeling tired and hungover a lot at the moment. By 9pm I am normally asleep on the sofa. To add to it all, our toilet started leaking last night which now means that every single bastard bit of plumbing in our new flat has something wrong with it - we still don't have a non-leaking shower either. Moan moan moan.

On the upside I got my booking in and 12 wk scan dates through yesterday - 22nd and 31st of May. Hurrah.

Cavort · 02/05/2013 09:08

Thanks Quod, I feel a million times better today than yesterday's pit of misery and I even managed to get some sleep for the first time in about a week. Smile

It's ok to find it tough in the early stages, I think most of us on here can relate to that. Are your symptoms worse this time than last time?

The place you are at probably doesn't even smell of cabbage... I remember at your stage I could smell our dog's breath from another room. I had superhuman nostrils which could smell a bird farting from 10 miles away, which would then make me feel sick. Confused And a pukey mum-to-be and a leaky toilet is not a good combination, I hope you have a good Plumber on speed dial.

Hooray for booking and a scan to look forward to!
