berrybomb I'd also be finding out the gender at 20weeks. But DD didn't cooperate last time. I want another girl but ofc I'd still be happy to have a boy. I'm already picturing two sisters playing together Blush

berrybomb · 27/03/2013 16:23

onelittle I forget they might not want to play on the day of the scan! I'd just want to get organised and buy lots of cute girl / boy clothes. If that's the case I expect we'd consider a 4D scan. Does anyone know if they can guarantee finding out the sex with a private 4D?

So cute - 2 sisters playing together. Does your OH have any preference?

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/03/2013 16:32

I think DH prefers another girl too. We are talking lots of girls name, but not really about boys. But then he could just be picking up on what I feel. I won't be buying anymore newborn stuff since I got all white last time (because we didn't know). But if it's a boy, I want to readjust my head space to picture a brother/sister. Do others find it imagine the future baby unless you have a gender to work on? Or if you don't know if it's a boy/girl, do you just assign it as a he/she in your mind? I did last time and keep refering to the baby as a she.

williaminajetfighter · 27/03/2013 16:39

oneLittle I can't conceive of having a boy and would be shocked if I did!! I have one DD and loved everything about having a daughter. I grew up with 4 older brothers and had to wear their hand-me-downs (it was the 70s) and had a boys haircut and it was proper roughhousing at home.... so I have a wee bit of an aversion to boys! Am crossing fingers for a girl so I can indulge in another round of dress buying!!

Theicingontop · 27/03/2013 16:40

I'm finding it hard to imagine a baby at all! It still doesn't feel like I'm going to have a baby in November. That by the time Christmas comes, I will have two children. It's all too strange to process, iyswim.

DS is grasping it better than I am and insists that it is a baby sister in mummy's tummy, like J, his 4 year old aunty. "But what if it's a baby brother?" "No, sister."

OH on the other hand is convinced that I'm having twins. "Your belly's huuugee!" cheers, OH...

Vix, I don't know what to say apart from sorry that you're being treated with such ill regard. I can't believe they're quibbling over a few days! Angry I have you in my thoughts, and my fingers crossed.

With regards to carriers I have two kinds already, the baby bjorn that I got secondhand for DS but which he never liked, and a pouch sling that I sewed myself which he loved. Our budget's going to be a little roomier this time round so I'm thinking of sewing myself a few, as they do tend to get sicked on. I can link to the pattern I used if anyone's interested x

Theicingontop · 27/03/2013 16:42

Williamina, I grew up with four older brothers too!! It's great fun. Until you realise you have no idea how to dress like a girl 'cause you've been wearing boy's clothes your entire life Blush

mycatlikestwiglets · 27/03/2013 16:43

Hi all, I've been lurking here for a few weeks and would like to join you if I may? I'm 9 weeks today so due on 30th October, but expecting to have a November baby based on DS, who was 10 days overdue. I was briefly on the October thread at the start then had an early m/c so very pleased to be pregnant again so soon. Sorry to hear about the ladies on this thread having bleeding and other worries - keeping fingers crossed for you all.

I had a private scan yesterday because I couldn't wait any longer and was very relieved to see the little bean wriggling away! Coincidentally my midwife called yesterday and came over to do my booking in so it's all feeling real now. My NHS scan date came through today and I have to wait until 12+6 so glad I had the private one done. Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all.

mycatlikestwiglets, DC2, EDD 30th October 2013, aged 33.

williaminajetfighter · 27/03/2013 16:47

theicing I remember once going to visit my father (parents divorced) when I was about 10, wearing cord bell bottoms, a boys t-shirt and having just returned from girls ice hockey practice (Canada!) and he told my mom that he was worried i might turn into a 'butch lesbian'. [confused}

Ah the joys of having lots of brothers!

MummaPanda · 27/03/2013 16:55

I found it really hard not being able to find out with dd, as I felt horrible referring to her as 'it' and 'the baby' rather than he or she. This time round baby is already being called 'blue bean' and dd's 'little brother' let's hope we are right!

Welcome Benthan & Mycat & congrats!!

Good luck for tomorrow berry & Will, I hope it goes well, you too gin, retro & fairy.

Thinking of you too Vix

Gin mine was 6 weeks on the dot so there should be much more for you to see. DP has taken to calling splodge baby Hank now, I didn't click at first, he'd best not get used to it!!

I also have to confess slippy I've done a couple of fantasy on-line shops, nothing as practical as you - mine are full on fantasy ones - Aston Martin pram anyone?!

I can't help but wonder what it'll cost once its here. What does a newborn cost a week, just whatever nappies cost?

I'd feel nervous about buying anything before week 20, so can't believe everyones talking items already BUT while we're on the subject lol I was thinking baby hammock instead of moses basket so was good to see you're a fan JB. Will have to look up what these gro bags are too, I though they were for planting veg. Clueless.

Vocal haven't told anyone apart from one person at work - will be telling the family on Sunday though - eep. Have got a thread on Pregnancy scouting for ideas. DP had told his mum and one person at work. Would cautiously be up for FB - how secret is secret??

Not finding out the sex either but it will drive me crazy trying to guess no doubt, already is!!

Starting to feel a bit more human now, has been a pretty diabolical day symptom wise so if everyone is getting an 8 week ease off then I'm looking forward to next week!

TiredFeet · 27/03/2013 18:14

saundy I think our main newborn cost was all the tea and biscuits for visitors! Oh and the constant washing and tumble drying...

I think I want to find out gender if I can this time. I think it would make it easier for talking to DS

Saundy · 27/03/2013 18:22

Ahh another hidden cost I hadn't taken into account - like maternity clothes!! Not that I need them yet.

How old is DS, too young to enjoy trying to guess?

Fairydogmother · 27/03/2013 18:28

I'm having a silly emotional day. The guy who owns the yard where I stable my horse whacked her with a whip and I went absolutely mental. Screamed you f*cker at him and then burst into hysterics.

Waiting for DP to get home from work so we can discuss moving her yards. I know it's a silly thing but I'm just on edge and this pushed me too far Sad

Sorry for having a moan about something so trivial tho

Saundy · 27/03/2013 18:36

Oh fairy don't be sorry these hormones are a fkr!! At least your pregnancy public outburst is all done & dusted now Wink

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/03/2013 18:45

These are grobags gro.co.uk/grobag-baby-sleep-bags

You can buy imitations from supermarkets, mothercare, John Lewis etc. But I got the original. A mixture of buy one get one free offers, NCT sales and eBay. I would recommend the newer ones as they have better features. Like side zipping, under arm poppers, etc. you can look on their website for 0-3mo features and look for them in the supermarket ones if you want. I really like the side zipping for newborns. It means the whole thing lies flat. I can lower DD over the grobag, and then zip her up and do the shoulder poppers all with her asleep.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/03/2013 18:48

They have a minimum size for the bags too. If its too big, they will fall into in. My DD was very small so we can't use one until 2 months I think. I'm going to get gro swaddles for this period this time. But most babies aren't as small as my DD though.

suffolk which swaddling blanket are you thinking of buying?

vix206 · 27/03/2013 18:55

I know I've said this before but this time it's really goodbye. Thanks for all the support, I will check back to see how all the scans go. My waiting is over now, which is a relief. I am bleeding very heavily now and in no doubt about what is happening. Hopefully hop on another antenatal thread very soon. Best of luck everyone. Wink Xx

Saundy · 27/03/2013 19:00

My heart goes out to you Vix look after yourself xx

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/03/2013 19:01

vix best of luck to you too. And hope you will be getting on another antenatal bus soon.

artyone · 27/03/2013 19:06

Hello everyone.

Welcome to the newbies

I've had a busy few days and have been feeling pretty nauseous too, but today I am feeling better, yay. I am still knackered though.
My boobs have definitely started to grow, today OH pointed out they were bigger and actually said 'I'm quite proud of myself now', haha.

Regarding the gender, I think we'll find out, it's already driving me crazy not knowing and I've only known for a week and a half!

Vix so sorry that they won't scan you, I hope all turns out to be okay. Hopefully they can get you in next week.

Theicingontop I'd love the link for that pattern. Not the best sewer but I'd like to try. I want to try and crochet a blanket by the time the baby comes too, but I'm not much of a crocheter either.

artyone · 27/03/2013 19:07

Vix Just seen your latest message, sorry for the sad news. Look after yourself.

Diege · 27/03/2013 19:16

Another vote for grobags here Smile. I personally prefer to swaddle for the early weeks (with sheet, then cellular blanket across baby tucked into cot sides) and then move on to bags at about 10 weeks.
Annoyingly I had a mass sell-off/clear out of baby related stuff last summer (this baby was a surprise!) and after 5 dcs there was a lot of it too. Have a bin bag of white bits and pieces in the loft, and also have a pram that I love that ds2 is still using, so will hopefully make do in some shape or form. Am a bit of a shopper though, so no doubt will be making a few purchases along the way.
Sorry for all the worries at the moment, and fingers crossed berry for your scan tomorrow xx
